Kristen Stewart is possibly in talks for a very lucrative contract with Nike

FFN_Alice_Stars_AAR_030614_51348950

This ^^ is a photo of Kristen Stewart on the set of Still Alice in NYC. No joke. That’s Kristen. She’s been hiding behind umbrellas almost exclusively since she arrived in NYC. I don’t get why it would be that big of a deal to get pap’d on set in New York, especially considering she pretty much poses for candid photos when she’s in LA. Anyway, the important thing – I guess? – is that we always get a clear view of Kristen’s shoes. Kristen is known for hating heels and for constantly wearing her beloved Chucks, Vans, or whatever else the hipsters are wearing. But wearing hipster labels almost exclusively doesn’t pay as well as you’d think, so Kristen is apparently looking to take her sneaker game to the next level: a Nike endorsement! Well, this is according to Radar, who claims that Nike wants Kristen.

Nike bigwigs are pulling out all stops to persuade Kristen Stewart — a huge fan of the shoemaker — to sign a celebrity endorsement deal, RadarOnline.com has been told.

“It’s no secret how much Kristen loves Nikes,” a source dished. “She often changes into a pair of Nikes after walking the red carpet in heels.”

But Nike is facing an uphill battle as the Twilight star, 23, who is notoriously private, shudders at the thought of having her face on advertisements!

“It’s not the easiest deal to make, as Kristen has shunned dozens of offers to endorse products since her rise to fame in the Twilight films. Also, Kristen already makes a ton of money because she gets a little piece of the Twilight merchandise. She’s terribly self-conscious about seeing her face on products.”

In the past, Nike has had success with such celebrity endorsers as Michael Jordan and Lance Armstrong before the brand cut ties with the cyclist after his doping scandal.

“But the company obviously wants to broaden its base from athletes to actors, and, in particular, appeal to young women,” the source said. “Nike execs believe that with her tomboy cool image, Kristen would be the perfect celebrity spokeswoman to create some new excitement about the brand.”

However, if Stewart does decide to get past her hatred of fame and sign on, it will cost Nike big time, the source predicted.

They said: “Nike will have to roll out some serious money if they’re going to be able to close a deal with her.”

[From Radar]

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Kristen had gotten some offers to be the face of various shoe brands, but I just don’t believe that Nike is SO hard up for Kristen to represent their company. Especially given the fact that Kristen is the one who seems a bit desperate to sell out these days – her recent interviews on behalf of her Balenciaga fragrance endorsement have read like pleas for cosmetics and beauty companies to consider her for their campaigns. She was even shilling for Proactiv (without getting paid). I believe Kristen is looking to feather her nest and organize some partnerships with some bigger companies, or in hipster terms, she’s looking to sell out. Maybe this is her trying to get a big sneaker company to bite. Maybe it would help if she was actually photographed wearing Nikes in some pap photos…? Because she’s only been wearing Chucks and Vans lately. Oh, and Chanel. I forgot that, she’s also the new face of Chanel’s Dallas line or whatever. Yep – she wants a big shoe contract!

Is she still popular enough to warrant a Nike endorsement deal? Not shading – just wondering, since she’s not going the big movie route right now.

I think all celebrity endorsement deals are bogus — nothing turns me away from a product more quickly than some celeb shilling it.

  2. dd says:

Funny, I thought her sweatshirt said ‘Shane’, as in, The L Word. I was like, yeah, you wish. Pffft.

  3. PunkyMomma says:

No shade on her, but I can’t see KStew giving up her Chucks. She’s been wearing them forever. Besides, how much money does she need? On the other hand, Kristen is a golfer and women’s golf is big, big business for Nike.

    • blue marie says:

I had forgotten all about the golfing, maybe that’s it.

      • PunkyMomma says:

My SO is a golfer. The PGA website had an item about Kristen Stewart and why she should make a golf movie. (This from the SO). Women’s golf suffers from image issues. Stewart would be such a coup for that industry. (Edited to correct source material.)

      • CTgirl says:

Yeah, because having KS endorsing women’s golf is really going to change that image.

  4. Dani2 says:

I thought she was more of a Vans/Chucks girl but okay lol. Also, wouldn’t being a spokesperson for Nike lead to questions about fitness/healthy lifestyle sorts of questions? She doesn’t strike me as that sort of person at all.

    • qwerty says:

Wow you’re so right about the fitness questions. This just wouldn’t work imo

    • Mel M says:

Exactly! The first thing I thought was, doesn’t Nike usually have athletes or at least people that are known to work out on occasion reping for them? I’ve never thought of her as athletic or someone who works out or even goes for walks to exercise, at least not without a cig hanging out of her mouth. I don’t think this match makes sense at all. Kristen Stewart is not someone that will get anyone to but a pair of Nike’s.

    • lucy2 says:

I thought the same thing – she’s skinny, but does not seem at ALL athletic. Why don’t they try for a female celeb who actually looks like they might use the shoes for something other than sitting around and being grumpy.

    • Delta Juliet says:

      My first thought, exactly.

  5. Cali says:

This makes as much sense as her being the face of high fashion. It’s ridiculous. She dresses sloppy (which, all the power to her, wear what you’re comfortable in) and lands a deal with whateverdesigneritwas and now Nike – for the girl who smokes cigarettes and gets high and isn’t too into working out (except those few photos we see of her leaving “the gym” every now and again).

Get celebs who are KNOWN for their fashion/style and KNOWN for their love of fitness/sport/whathaveyou.

  6. Liv says:

Kristen + Shia LaBeouf = match made in heaven.

  7. Marigold says:

Yeah, when I think of athletic shoes, she’s the first person who comes to mind…

  8. ray says:

i hate how people like Kristen have made vans a fashion thing, theyre so badly made for skating nowadays

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ok, this is totally off topic, but vans remind me of slip on Keds from my youth, and I always thought that was a clean, classic sneaker. So I’m 56. If I wore plain vans would I be a laughing stock hipster wannabe? Or look like I’m trying to pretend I skateboard? Tell me the truth, I can take it.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ok, nobody cares. I get it. I’m taking this as a no, old lady, don’t wear vans.

      • Ray says:

I totally thought my response sent haha, I think vans aren’t really either now, everyone wears em so you’re safe. I was just saying them being so popularised, vans makes them for fashion not skating anymore.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, I see. They aren’t as good for their original purpose. So maybe no one will notice if I wear them. Thanks for answering me!

  9. Dani says:

That Chanel backpack is so out of place on Kristen. I don’t get it.

  10. Huh says:

How about an endorsement deal from Mini Cooper?

  11. smee says:

She’s a moron if she doesn’t grab every single endorsement deal that comes her way right now. I doubt she’s ever going to make a ton of money from acting. Her days are numbered, imo

    • duh says:

thats why she is in 7 movies this year LOL

      • Nina W says:

7 movies no one will see.

      • MisJes says:

Well, after the rave critical reviews Camp X-Ray received after Sundance, I’m giving at least that film a go. So, you may speak for yourself, Nina W.

      • Dani2 says:

@MisJes a metascore of 55 based on 7 critics doesn’t equate to “rave reviews”. Both her fans and haters are fond of exaggerations. She’s not going anywhere, she will continue to work as an actress but she’s also a one-note actress with an image problem.

      • Josephine says:

Or, more accurately, 1 actual film at the moment, with 2 in post-production, both small roles in small movies. But whatever.

  12. Red32 says:

I thought Nike used athletes for their ads.

  13. Samantha25 says:

I think this is a Nike publicity stunt. This endorsement claim makes zero sense. I don’t recall Kristen ever wearing Nike. As said she wears Chucks and Vans 99% of the time. Endorsing those makes a lot more sense.

  14. ali says:

Either way if this story is false good for her. It does show she has turned her career around and made one based on her terms. Everyone deserves a second chance to be a bad actor regardless of mistakes. I will just reread all the comments about how her career is over.

  15. qwerty says:

She’s not sporty enough for Nike and somewhat skinny-fat I think. Not into it.

    • gg says:

What in hell is skinny-fat? Some new insult to cover all the bases?

      • Sullivan says:

        Hahaha! Good question, GG.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Skinny-fat is someone thin but lacking muscle mass or tone.

      • qwerty says:

It’s definitely not new. And means someone who fits insto small sizes but once their clothes go off it’s obvious they don’t exercise.

      • Cheap Trick says:

Oh look, yet another shitty term that says how to have a ~wrong~ female body.

      • Seriously?! says:

Kristen has called herself skinny-fat before on more than one occasion, so I don’t understand the outrage here. And Cheap Trick, it’s a term that’s applied to both men and women.

      • Nina W says:

Me, I’m skinny-fat, I don’t weigh much and I fit into small sizes but I’m curvy and not athletic and fit. I don’t take it as body-shaming because it’s a pretty accurate description of my natural body type.

    • qwerty says:

Oh Jesus. There;s nothing wrong with her body, it’s just not right for NIKE.

  16. Aria says:

Nike makes more sense than Chanel or Balenciaga. She’s not haute couture girl.

    • mimi says:

She may not wear Chanel and Balenciaga on her downtime but she most certainly is a “haute couture girl” on the red carpet and in some of her more upscale photoshoots. Besides, she fronts Balenciaga fragrance not their clothing line. As for her Chanel contract, it’s for the more casual Chanel Dallas line. Karl adores Kristen. He himself said he’s not into cheerleader types. Same goes for Balenciaga. Nicolas Ghesquiere and Kristen’s friendship and admiration for one another goes way back to her early teen years. Florabotanica and Rosabotanica have both done extremely well in sales since Kristen has been their spokesperson. You may not like her or her fashion choices on and off the red carpet but the designers do and they know her association with their labels draws massive attention and makes them lots of money.

As for Nike? She golfs and when she was younger, she surfed and skateboarded. Robert Pattinson said they used to run, ride bikes and hit the gym together when training for the Twilight movies. She’s been papped going to yoga classes and taking horse riding lessons so she is somewhat sporty even if she’s not being seen doing any of these things on a regular basis.

Who knows if there is any truth to this rumor. As for “selling out” … it’s become the norm for most high profile celebrities to endorse a wide array of products these days. Katy Perry endorses Popchips and I remember seeing her doing infomercials for Proactiv. Even the guys are jumping on the bandwagon. Robert Pattinson, James Franco, Brad Pitt, Jude Law, Garrett Hedlund, Matthew McConaughey are all fronting fragrances. Nobody in Hollywood seems above endorsing products these days.

    • Alina says:

actually she is an haute couture girl! I´m with Mimi in this.
She just isn´t a fashion victim in private, but on the red carpet and in photoshoots her body and (b*tch-)face are perfect for haute couture! She looks great in designer outfits because she´s slim, experimental and no silly grinning cat.

    • Aria says:

Most of the time she dresses like a truck dirver. Her image sells hotdogs and chucks not haute couture dresses. Karl loves her so does Nicholas but she’s not fashion material. She downmarketes them. The same happened when Karl insisted on Blake Lively and she’s a lady next to Kristen.

This is beyond liking her or not. This is what her image projects.

      • Cheap Trick says:

Considering that Chanel is a brand that mostly appeals to old ladies, it is actually quite clever to look for fresh faces that would sell to the youth. Nobody lives forever, you better crack new markets. The first perfume that Kristen sells seems to do really, really well, so it´s not surprising that folks offer her another endorsement deals. Apparently she sells and that is all corporations care about – rainmaking.

    • MisJes says:

Aria, I disagree. She photographs beautifully in haute couture and all of her looks in editorials are very striking. She wears high fashion very well. In her downtime, she can dress however she likes, as far as I’m concerned. She isn’t working when she’s walking her dog or picking up groceries.

  17. bns says:

It’s funny how she never stops complaining about fame and only wanting to act for the craft, but then she keeps signing all of these endorsement deals. First Balenciaga, then Chanel, and now this. She’s just as fame hungry and greedy as anyone else in Hollywood.

    • Shana says:

No she was chosen, O funny they didn’t call you first, Nor last ahhaha

    • Ms. Turtle says:

This! So much. I have no problem with celebs endorsing products. They get paid a ton of money for like 2 days of work. Who could blame them!? But with her, it’s the constant sullen face, the whinging about fame and being left alone and don’t be interested in my private life, but THEN signing on with Chanel and others. It’s SO disingenuous. I know she’s young so I’m trying to cut her slack, but she’s such a poser. Either be punk rock and anti-establishment OR cash your giant endorsement checks. One or the other.

      • snowflake says:

okay, you get paid to do your job, so you can’t complain about it then, using your logic. she’s allowed to complain about her job, everyone does.

  18. annonie says:

I’m surprised you guys havent been talking about it, a lot of ppl actually think kstew is pregnant – that’s why she’s been hiding behind umbrellas all the time and wearing baggy, layered clothes. I’m not so sure I believe the theories but it does make some sense I suppose. It also explains her recent weight gain and bigger boobs. Who knows though

    • Robstencuteness says:

Kristen IS pregnant. She’s due in April.

    • Lark says:

Oh Dear God. The only people who believe that are the bizarre robsten twi-hards in the world of the virulent twi-hard stans, anti-stans, and “shippers” and I only know that because of someone who commented on here in the past. She may have put on a few pounds post Twilight (and I think I remember reading it was for some role too, my guess the soldier one) but she’s still on the thin side and she’s always worn baggy clothes. SMH.

      • Cheap Trick says:

She was asked to put on some weight for Sils Maria. On the average European actresses tend to look less skinny than Hollywood ladies, so that´s why.

    • lulu says:

and who is the daddy supposed to be?

  19. Sarah says:

clever move. from nike. they probably gave radar a little amount of money and now get publicity through Kristen without having to pay a big sum and having to be directly involved in her antics.
if you are a private person you dont do married people in public. if you are a private person you dont live in pap central aka LA. if you are so private and dont want to endorse companies, then you dont endorse companies like she does.

  20. MeganDraper says:

    JUST NO!!!!

    • Kosmos says:

No….I’m soooo over Kristen, and have completely changed my mind about her after the cheating and breaking up that family, and also after hearing her speak on talk shows in her fake-cool, ‘I don’t need this’ kind of attitude, and hearing the F-bomb from her tons of times–she now just doesn’t click for me as a young actress I can respect. I didn’t like her in ads, I don’t like her in Movies either, and I hate hearing her talk her talk. I’m disappointed that she’s now going to be in upcoming movies because I really don’t want to see her anymore. If not for her family’s connections to the film industry, she would never have had a chance at all.

      • Paige says:

Kristen Stewart is just one of those people that’s just THERE. I don’t care either way, but not to be rude or anything but why do people comment on stories about people they are sooooooooooo over.

      • Nina W says:

People comment negatively for the same reasons that people comment positively. It’s a gossip site, people come here to express their thoughts and like or dislike who they want. Anti-fan is just as valid as fan besides anti-fans usually make the funniest comments.

  21. Lark says:

Radar, so 99% of the time it’s BS. I just don’t see her out there “chasing” endorsement deals ….now if they are offered it’s another story. She made insane globs of money of Twilight, made several million dollars plus backend for the awful Snow White film, and has two luxury brand contracts. She was joking about shilling for Proactive because she name-checks them all the time as something she uses, so I could see her shilling for them but she has no “need” to chase after a ton of endorsement deals or to sign them if they are offered. Plus, “sneaker” companies don’t even go after actresses (or polarizing ones)—they go after singers/rappers and get pics of them “wearing” them at dance rehearsals for concerts or athletes.

As far as the umbrella, since she’s on the set (and not randomly walking around NYC) my guess is it’s an attempt to try and get the paps to back off the set (if they can’t get clear pics, they probably will leave)…I’ve seen celebs papped like that before on various sets.

    • AnnaM44 says:

Her and Pattinson have both made fun of celebs who advertised in the past. Kristen even said people who do makeup advertisements have “sold their souls” and that is something she’ll never do. But now that twilight is over they want to go back to indies that they find interesting. Pattinson basically admitted he does advertising so he can stay relevant and continue being chosen for those indie roles he wants. She’ll never admit it, but I think the same goes for her. Even though she’s always done them, there is just too much other competition nowadays.

      • Lark says:

Eh, that wasn’t exactly what she said—she said something like she thought people sold their souls until she “met” Nicolas and realized how it can be an art. Basically, she was majorly kissing ass with Balenciaga. She has an issue though with saying broad sweeping statements or things that can easily taken out of context. I think she had some major media training right before Sundance and after she read her “poem,” because her interviews definitely changed around then.

That said both she and Rob have definitely played the “artist” card….and then turned to endorsement deals. My point was I thought Kaiser was talking about $, when all 3 from Twilight are insanely rich…but in terms of “relevance” you are on the mark imo. Maybe I’m cutting them a break because I have sort of a soft spot for both, but they were like 17/18 and 21 when they first got involved with Twilight…I get them “evolving” (even if it comes across as hypocritical) after Twilight and realizing they can’t just play the artist card even if they want to stick to indies.

      • tracy says:

It is not necessarily hypocritical, it is called being young. What you think is silly, odd or selling out changes as you get older. She wears Nike products all time. She even wears them on the Red Carpet, with dress costing thousands of dollars. When Kristen got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, instead of donning heels, she made her foot imprint, with a Nike product. She loves the brand, and I am sure Nike loves seeing her wearing them. So why not make millions promoting

    • Alina says:

yes, lots of actors hide behind umbrellas when they´re on a set. But it´s the hated Stewart girl so it´s a crime! Laughable.
IMO paps shouldn´t be on a set. They disturb actors at work and spoil the movie storyline. If paps don´t get new pics they go. That´s why some actors (Stewart too) wear often the same clothes or hide behind items. Only new pictures have worth.

  22. tracy says:

Love Kristen, this would be a good additional campaign for Kristen!! Go Girl!!!

  23. Nopity Nope says:

Converse, who makes Chuck Taylors, is a Nike company. So in that vein, the KStew-Nike marriage makes sense. Otherwise, I agree that it seems odd. Adidas has done more to go after non-athlete endorsers in recent years, whereas Nike’s stable is almost exclusively athletes or former athletes.

As for Kanye, he worked on designs with Nike but was never a paid endorser for them.

  24. Source says:

They’re saying she’s EIGHT months pregnant. Does she look that pregnant to anyone? Would she be able to do all these films if she was eight months pregnant? I mean, seriously.

The Robsten chicks are busy putting red circles on pictures in which she looks bloated, while making up crazy theories as to how the cheating scandal was a cover-up for her getting married to Rob and she’s about to have his baby. When they see her clearly in a recent pic with a beer bottle in her hand, they’re convinced it’s filled with water, and she’s doing it to throw the papps off. They live in their own little universe.

But I agree re: Nike usually has athletic people in their ads, and the beer drinking pot-smoking girl who looks strung out all the time, is not exactly the picture of health they’re trying to promote.

And FYI: Skinny-fat refers to both men and women who are thin with no muscle tone.

  25. Saskia says:

This makes no sense to me. Nike isn’t exactly a trendy shoe brand…they’re just known for athletic shoes for sporty people. Kristen Stewart is one of the least athletic people I can think of. Unless fucking other people’s husbands is now actually considered a sport?

  26. snowflake says:

I think shes cute, i say good for her! i think people hate on her too much

  27. Corn on the cob says:

Omg, can someone just knock that stupid trucker hat off her head. They are so stupid looking.
