Katharine McPhee reconciles with husband months after affair with married man

I kind of wondered if you guys were even still interested in this story, but I got some requests for some updated coverage, so here you go. Last fall, Katharine McPhee was photographed kissing a man who was not her husband. The man was Mary McCormack’s husband Michael Morris and it was pretty obvious that they were having an affair. Michael returned to Mary and Katharine announced that she and her husband were separated and that she was super-embarrassed that she was caught. Honestly, Katharine seemed like she was sort of pleased with the attention and she didn’t really act like she was upset with the idea that Mary and Michael’s marriage was now hanging by a thread.

Skip ahead four months and Us Weekly recently announced that Katharine and her husband Nick Cokas are now giving it another go. A “source” (named Katharine McPhee) told Us Weekly, “Katharine and Nick are working on their marriage.” They’ve been photographed out and about together several times too. Reportedly, Mary McCormack and Michael have reconciled too, after she briefly kicked him out.

And now everything’s coming up homewrecker, because McPhee has just signed on to be the lead in a CBS pilot:

Katharine McPhee is returning to the small screen. The Smash and American Idol alum has booked the female lead in CBS’ genius drama pilot Scorpion, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Based on the life of Walter O’Brien, the drama revolves around Walter (Body of Proof’s Elyes Gabel), an eccentric genius, and his international network of super-geniuses who form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age.

McPhee will play Paige, a working-class hero and diner waitress who understands geniuses who becomes a nanny of sorts and a translator for Walter’s super-team of socially misunderstood masterminds.

For McPhee, the casting marks her return to series television following her two-season co-starring role on NBC’s Broadway drama Smash. The American Idol runner-up also has feature Depravity in the works. She’s repped by WME and the Schiff Co…McPhee joins a cast that also includes Robert Patrick and Eddie Kaye Thomas.

So, did Katharine score a lead role in a network drama just based off of her Smash skills? Or is this yet another example of Hollywood rewarding the worst people who misbehave? I find it really strange that Katharine McPhee is somehow qualified to star in a network drama. And I think this whole thing is fishy as hell.

Here are some photos of Katharine and her husband last week. The next time she calls the paps for some happy-couple photo-op, she should really make sure they get a clear shot of her face.

I hate those shorts with the booties, actually I hate the shorts and the booties.

  2. Izzy says:

Also the next time she calls the paps, she should make sure she’s not wearing some hideous floral pyjama shorts in public.

She and Michael Morris are both a-holes for what they did, and she was such a self-centered jerk about getting caught to boot. And Mary McCormack just went down a bit in my book, sor taking the louse back. I get that they have kids, but does she really think the affair ended for any reason other than “they got caught?” C’mon.

    • I’m generally a supporter of people working through the tough times in their marriages but these two (McPhee and Morris) just strike me as assholes.

I don’t know; it’s hard to judge. I have a family member who took back a cheating spouse. They’ve actually had a good marriage since (twenty years since cheater was kicked out and accepted back). It probably wasn’t easy, but they genuinely seem to love and care for one another despite the mistakes they made in their marriage. It’s never as simple as cheater vs. sainted spouse. There could be a lot of reasons Mary McCormack took her husband back.

That said, her husband was incredibly gross to do what he did and I hope she made him pay for it before she took him back.

A headline in “who cares” news- this chick seems boring even when she’s being a bitch.

  4. Lucy2 says:

I feel like she only reconciled with her husband because Michael ditched her once they got “caught”. I still think she set that whole thing up.

    • holly hobby says:

Yup yup. She crawled back because that other guy probably told the wife it was a mistake, she was a mistake and went back to the wife.

  5. Anna says:

Is she friends with kaley cuoco? They can plan pap walks together.. maybe even get Leann in on the fun

  6. CeCe says:

I don’t understand how this woman gets roles. She was hard to watch in SMASH. I loved that show, except for her…I always assumed her husband helped get her roles…no? She is beautiful and can sing, but should not be given lead roles. I’m confused!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I loved Smash, too, though I agree she was wooden. She has a pretty voice, though. I was sorry it was cancelled, but I think we may be the only two people who watched it. Lol

      • Scarlet Vixen says:

I watched Smash too! I was so disappointed that they took a fantastic idea and ruined it with bad writing. And I agree, McPhee is a very talented singer but her acting is…limited.

      • lucy2 says:

I felt the same way – it had such potential, but quickly turned into a goofy soap opera with music. The writing was terrible, and some of the acting was equally awful, but there were some talented people on there. I think McPhee is very pretty and can sign, but agree she is not a great actress. I’m surprised to hear she has another role.

      • Vanessa says:

I watched Smash too. I loved her voice but I agree that her acting was wooden. I couldn’t tell if her character was just meant to be very stupid though bc I saw her in a few movies and she wasn’t bad.

    • holly hobby says:

Nope her big champion was Steven Spielberg. There was a long article about that troubled show last year: http://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/how-smash-became-tvs-biggest-train-wreck

At one point, Speilberg wanted to replace Megan Hilty because he thought she outshone Katherine.

I’m not surprised Spielberg is a big fan. He was also a fan of CZJ and if styled right, Katherine does look like CZJ.

I won’t be surprised Spielberg called in some favors to get her this job. I don’t think she should be a lead at all. Kate Capshaw, watch your back!

    • Uncle Ozzie says:

Her father is a major producer with Dick Clark productions and her mother is the lead vocal coach on American Idol. I’m sure there were some strings pulled there. She has always been taught any publicity is good publicity.

  7. Merritt says:

Michael Morris wrecked his own home.

McPhee’s husband certainly seems to enjoy the paparazzi.

    • bella says:

      YES
Michael Morris should be who’s blamed for wrecking his home.
And Katharine for screwing up her own.
Hey, listen…people mess up…even the best of us.
Bad choices, you lose your way…
I’m all for folks in both marriages working it through.
The cheaters will deal with the shame and guilt the rest of their lives.
Even if they don’t now, it will creep up at critical life markers…maybe years from now.
      That will be their “punishment.”
      So…I wish everyone the best…

  8. Josephine says:

In Hollywood, only men get to cheat and keep their reputations. Women are rarely forgiven in the court of public opinion.

  9. Talie says:

Chelsea Handler was on Howard Stern a few weeks ago and I really thought the two of them would talk about this since they are both friends with Mary, but not a word. Kind of strange. Especially since Howard frequently warned Mary on-air that he thought her husband was cheating.

  10. MonicaQ says:

As my grandma always told me, “What’s done in the dark will be brought to the light.”

  11. Scarlet Vixen says:

Maybe their cheating was kissing but no P to the V? Everyone has a different toleration for level, and who know what their spouses decided they were willing to forgive. A friend of mine almost left her husband over a drunk sexting incident. I split from an ex once over emotional cheating (and hundreds of dollars in cell phone bills in MY name). But some people are willing to accept an isolated incident. And some people are unwilling to forgive just flirting. I do think it’s pretty telling that BOTH spouses took them back. It makes me think the cheating wasn’t as serious as originally suspected.

  12. mom2two says:

Katherine McPhee cannot act. She was awful on Smash. How in the world did she get the lead in a pilot???

  13. stinky says:

i blame Leeann R for this whole ankle-boots w/ bare legs thing.
    ITS SO LAME!

  14. DaisyDuchess says:

Everything about this outfit is wrong

  15. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

She looks so much better with long brown hair, a little like Leighton Meester.

  16. Happyhat says:

Don’t care a jot for what she does, but she so pretty!

  17. holly hobby says:

She is a talentless hack. I hope this show fails too – even though I liked Elys Gable in Body of Proof. I bet they are writing her to be “perfect and wonderful” and “everybody’s friend.” ala Smash.
