Robert Pattinson gets frisky with Julianne Moore in ‘Map to the Stars’ trailer

Do you think Robert Pattinson will ever be able to change the general assumption that he’s an acting lightweight? I don’t know. I like him more for trying different things and for signing on to weird films just because he wants to work with that actor or this director. I feel like his continued collaborations with David Cronenberg may yield tangible results in the long-term. Cronenberg is such a weird director, but most actors want to work with him. After Sparkles and Cronenberg did Cosmopolis together, David got Sparkles to sign on for a big(ish) part in Maps to the Stars. The trailer has just come out. Just FYI – there’s a flash of nudity and a few swears, so this is NSFW. Mostly it’s just really creepy though.

Well, it doesn’t look like Robert’s part is the lead. But it’s an ensemble, with Julianne Moore and Mia Wasikowska as the central figures in a bizarre drama that also includes John Cusack, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon. And so Sparkles and Julianne had a sex scene? He’s banging her in the back of the limo? Weird. Very weird. But I bet Julianne loved working with Sparkles and vice versa – everybody says that Julianne is one of the nicest people ever.

We don’t often talk about Mia Wasikowska, but my God… she does “creepy” like few other actresses of her generation. She should be careful, because she’s already being typecast as “the weird one” or “that spooky girl.” I’m also kind of happy to see John Cusack in this.

So, will Cronenberg’s further involvement with Sparkles yield anything for Rob’s career? I don’t know. I prefer Cronenberg when he’s working with Viggo Mortensen, quite honestly. Viggo + Cronenberg = amazing.

This seems degrading for an established actress. Why is this necessary for an actress now a days anyway? To be porn-ish? Not pretty or a good idea IMO. Feeds the male egos and adds to all the issues we ladies are trying to fight in the media. Now Julianne Moore will preach FEMALE power. No, that’s giving in to male power at the studio Julianne.

    • sarah says:

I think it’s lame and degrading they are relying on this sex scene to hype the movie. Like I thought (based on a similar headline on another site) the movie must be about their affair. But after watching the trailer it’s not at all about that. It’s some other crazy nonsense. Isn’t it enough to have an intriguing movie with a fantastic ensemble cast? Oh, but wait, there’s a back-of-the-limo sex scene, guys!

  2. Shiksa Goddess says:

Not a fan of Robert but I have to admit, I was so envious of Julianne Moore when she got to do sex scenes with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in that Don Jon movie.

  3. LB says:

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie. And to seeing whether R Pattz can act – the jury is out on that one for now.

  4. FingerBinger says:

Mia Wasikowska is excellent at being creepy. She’s also very good at playing odd. She was really the only good thing in ‘Stoker’.

  5. Abbott says:

I’m trying to pinpoint why I once thought Shovel Face was good looking. His head looks like a toe.

  6. bee says:

I don’t know why you continue to post about Rob. You clearly don’t like him or know anything about the work he’s doing. Guess you just need the hits huh?

    • FingerBinger says:

I don’t think Rob Pattinson stories get that many hits though.

      • lindyuk says:

No…they don’t…because he prefers it that way. I’m a fan of Rob. He seems to want to stay out of the spotlight…which is not good for me as a fan of his but fair play to him…he’s appearing in films which HE wants to act in and is comfortable in. I haven’t seen all of Rob’s films…because I haven’t particularly liked his choices….BUT …THIS one is right up my alley!!!.

      • Jenny says:

You haven’t been to his fansites or Gossip Cop. All his stories get thousands of hits.

    • Anname says:

Eh, she is suggesting there is a chance he can overcome his lightweight image. Not everyone is going to like him- at least he is getting the chance to prove himself to directors and moviegoers. I don’t think you can expect that every post about is going to be from a fan perspective, but it’s nice to see it when the writer is allowing that he may succeed in becoming more than just Edward. I know I would rather see this type of article way more than the Robsten or Katy Perry nonsense.

I like him very much, I think he gives funny and interesting interviews and he holds my attention onscreen. After watching Cosmopolis, I don’t think this “lightweight” image fits anymore, but I do understand why it still exists considering the Cosmopolis audience was very small.

I think his part in this Cronenberg movie is relatively small, almost straightman to the craziness around? We’ll see. There is another better theatrical trailer out there today, this is actually the post production/sales piece and doesn’t give the tone as well as the real trailer.

    • mia girl says:

“Ball”ocks! First, this is not a site that is going on get a lot of hits from a Pattinson post, and I say that as a CBer who really likes him. So for hits, um no.

Frankly, I think it’s the opposite. Kaiser and Bedhead have a certain fondness for him and so post when many may not comment. But that doesn’t mean they won’t point out the obvious. Pattinson has some proving to do.

And @Anname – at your suggestion i just went looking for the new trailer and like it even better. Thanks. Here it is if anyone wants to check it out. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oTH2I74_JR8

      • Angela says:

I dunno what you mean by saying “fondness for him”. As a matter of fact, Kaiser insults him in every article, that’s why most of Sparkles fans left and regular CBers are not eager to comment on an actor who doesn’t provide some scandalous shit to discuss on a daily basis.

      • mia girl says:

In my opinion there is a nuanced between what Kaiser does which is be smart, funny and snarky vs being insulting. I like him and if I really thought she was flat out insulting him, I would take note. When any of them really hates someone, it is plenty obvious.

CB, Bedhead and Kaiser all have snarky things to say from time to time about even their most favorite celebrities. That is part of why many of us love the site. But you have to be willing to also take the snark about people you may like.

Are they falling over themselves with praise for Pattinson? No, so I guess I can understand why some fans may perceive their snark differently.

But I still stand by my original comment that yes, they have a certain “fondness for him”.

  7. Deidra says:

Looks like Pattinson is doing everything to not pop up on blogs like this. We hardly see him these days, he stays away from any tabloid shit, skillfully dodges paparazzi and all we have is set pics. He even managed to go almost unnoticed at Coachella (except for a few over-the-shoulder pics). I personally think he’s fed up with drama surrounding his name and if acting career doesn’t work out he’ll go into producing/directing/writing scripts without any regret.

    • lindyuk says:

Deirdra… I think you’ve ‘hit the nail on the head’….he does NOT court publicity and seems to go out of his way to avoid being papped which is a pain in the neck for a fan like me because I do like seeing pap pictures of Rob….I’ve always thought that his actual ‘acting’ career as such is transitory and his real skill will be in writing/directing….

  8. T.C. says:

I like Sparkles for trying to be a better actor while at the same time I’m disappointed that he gets so many chances to try and fail while super talented men like Oscar Isaac, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Eijifor still have to struggle. I know it’s because he has a huge fanbase from Twilight and is Caucasian. Life is sometimes not fair.

  9. Dalovelee says:

Robert Pattinsons purpose is to ensure that films that otherwise wouldn’t see the light of day get made. He doesn’t have to be above lightweight because he’s got the status or “tag” of female audiences will follow whatever movie he is in. Take him out of this film it will stay in some art house movie theater before going to Blue ray.

    • Rice says:

That’s a very good point Dalovelee. Most of the films he’s chosen since getting famous would have gone straight to Movie Graveyard.

    • T.C. says:

WTH? So why did Cosmopolis and Bel Ami stay in arthouse theaters then straight to Bluray? I don’t think Cosmopolis even broke 2 Million and he was the lead.

This film too is an Indie that will be played mainly in art houses. Cronenberg is not a commercial director like Nolan. Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska and John Cusack are all more than enough to get a project green lighted, filmed and released. Gees. I like Sparkles but some of his fangirls are so out of touch with reality about his status in the business.

      • Tig says:

I totally agree with your assessment of this movie’s cast being sufficient to get funding. At one point Viggo M’s name was attached- wish that had come to be true!

However, I read that comment to mean the only reason RP was in it was to get funding, as if to say otherwise, he never would have been. Interestingly enough, David C in an interview that some casting decisions for his films are driven by the fact that some European funding streams require that certain nationalities appear in the film in question. Whether that’s the case for this one, who knows? Glad to see that Sarah Gadon is in this- she is so beautiful.

  10. Rice says:

Yeah, Cronenberg is weird. I saw Cosmopolis and, to be honest, I didn’t enjoy it. He banged some chick in a limo and he’s doing it again in this movie? Are all of his movies gonna be like this? I hope not because I want him to get out of the Twitlight and bask in the glory of true moviestardom.

  11. Corrie says:

That was a weirdly awesome and salacious trailer. I think many male actors such as Pattinson have been typecast and surpassed those stereotypes. I don’t see him as the twilight guy anymore honestly. We’ll see. Loved Pattinson with Cronenberg in Cosmopolis actually. Unexpected. This book was so morbid and crazy that I cant wait to see what Cronenberg did here. He’s been making this film for years. Pleasantly surprised all around. PS Kaiser – Just read Pattinsons filming with your new fav Cumberbatch soon. They both could use a film boost that challenges their status quo. Lost City of Z. Looks like it has incredible possibilities. WE shall see. Pitt is producing. First production post 12Yrs a Slave. Nice.

  12. Tig says:

I think the trailer is good and intriguing. I hope it gets a wide release. I wonder if Rovert P will ever get the chance or want to, for that matter, to play a romantic lead? I’d still like to see him in a comedy.

  13. RPG says:

It’s MapS to the Stars. Plural.
