No wonder Anna Wintour loves Kanye West – he got the memo about the dress code and he dressed accordingly. After last year’s Givenchy disaster, Kim Kardashian opted for a rich, silk Lanvin gown in a rather pretty shade of blue. Kanye squired his lady admirably, and all in all… this appearance was WAY better than last year’s. I’d even say that Kim and Kanye might have been one of the top five best-dressed couples.
Which isn’t to say that there isn’t room for improvement with Kim’s look. I don’t really think it’s the most flattering silhouette for her, especially when you’re looking at her from any angle other than head-on. After losing so much weight in the past year, this is a dress that makes her hips and butt look heavier – that’s what happens when you wear such heavy fabric, especially with pleats. But, the black belt defines her waist and you can tell that the top part was tailored for her. I also think the visible zipper cheapens the look, and I would have liked to see her wear different shoes and wear her hair up. But yeah… overall, this is a win for me. Crazy, I know. Kim and Kanye look nice together.

Yes – as T&L said, seen better dresses at 8th grade dances. It’s the color – teal is such a low-rent color unless you’re SWINTON or Cate Blanchett, who can make a down-market color look chic.
Kanye looks ridiculous in that costume. Contrast him to Tom Ford or Benedict Cumberbatch, who both looked impeccable and totally relaxed in white tie and tails, and well – Kanye looks trussed up.

But Kim’s dress is a mess. Unflattering to her petite height, and shape, it’s bunchy, with a saggy, droopy top (“tailored for her”???? seriously???) that would flatter no woman, making her shoulders look puffy. POCKETS!!!!!! for her prom lip gloss and cell phone? And, that highly unfortunate slit that really destroyed it. I have really no words for the $15 BOGO shoes. Yet we are supposed to give this look a big beaming nod because…why? It is silk, or a solid color this year instead of granny slipcover? Not good enough. I found it clunky at best, sighed, moved on. BUT I circled back here after reading about Zoey’s gown which was given a “cheap prom dress” smack. I am not in love with that look either (though it fit properly, was clean-lined and simple-classic and is standard Zooey so meets that standard at least ). But to see her look trashed, while this look is held up as some sort of dazzling gold-star “you did it!” look of accomplishment? — nope. Had to comment.

ITA, the only thing I like is the color. The fabric is horrible, the fit is weird, and those shoes are ugly. I mean, most of the dresses this year are either boring or fug, so I guess she fits right in.

I never got the Kim Kardashian “fashion icon” status some people (primarily in the media) have put on her. She dresses so poorly so often that when she looks semi-decent people give her over-the-top praise. The color is nice, but the dress doesn’t fit her – the tailoring is awful and the dress is sagging off of her body. It makes her look fuller than she really is.
Yeah, everyone is nailing it in the comments. It’s relatively good compared to 90% of what we’ve seen her wear in the last two years. But it’s still an ill-fitting, boring, premiere type dress, that doesn’t really suit her. The proof is in the pictures, where this only looks ok from certain angles at that. Compare the last two large photos. In the second to last, it looks alright. The last photo though supports my original impression, that she once again picked a dress she doesn’t really have the body type or height to pull off, (It’s not the best she can do for herself). I’m noticing now that I don’t really like how the must-have-been “tailored” top fits either. The top also seems to have only been considered from a few angles. From the butt up, the dress is not flattering at all from the side. I like the color and she looks less mannequin-like for a change. But the shoes are wrong, the dress is too big, the material’s too heavy, on top of the silhouette not really working for her. The fabric and the dress’s construction looks cheap to me too (but that seems to be an epidemic even in high fashion nowadays). If anyone else wore this dress, AND it fit better, AND suited them, we’d still say “MEH” and immediately forget about it.
Don’t think it is a win. Is it better than last year – most definitely. But it still doesn’t fit her. It is bunching in the back and it is WAY too much material for her body type. It is also too long. There are also pictures out there where her underwear are showing. And what is up with his pants? They are too long and too tight. But of the pictures I saw of different dresses, this isn’t the worst.
Kanye looks quite handsome. I love his entire look. Kim looks decent, for Kim: the fourth photo is really good, it makes her shape look more balanced. The rest of the photos, I think there is too much heavy draping and the pocket is a silly detail. But definitely a step up from vagina dresses.

She has set the bar so low a dress that on anyone else is considered average is good on her. I think last year was such a disaster she went with an aggressively safe choice so as not to get cropped out of anymore photos.
Exactly, her outfit choices are usually so horrible that anything that wasn’t atrocious was going to cut it. She looks better than she has in a long time, but it’s hardly an amazing or stand-out look.

I agree, though I probably don’t always look like a couple with the fiance. We’re not overly affectionate in public. We just spent a weekend in the city with another couple friends and I was like “oh shit. they’re all cuddly and stuff. Should I be doing that?”. I think after almost 10 years together (for us) I’m just kind of comfortable not being overly affectionate while out and about.
This. Twelve years today for me and hubby (together, not married, married for 4) and his best friend has only seen us kiss 3 times, once being our wedding day, the other two by accident. It’s just the military-no-PDA thing that was hammered in us since HS.

The fabric looks rumpled and cheap, it obviously does not suit her body type and fails to flatter her figure. Strapless is a mistake without proper support. The shoes, as always, look like cheap bondage knock-offs. Her taste is terrible, she desperately needs a make over and a new stylist.
