Blake Lively’s post-Met Gala party: ‘Frozen hot chocolate with peanut butter sauce’

FFN_Lively_Blake_AAR_050714_51404795

I’m having a love-hate relationship with Blake Lively’s coat in these photos from Wednesday in NYC. This was my reaction: “Oh, that coat is great… wait… no it’s not… 1980s wallpaper fug… butterfly what?… maybe it depends on the lighting… wait, maybe it’s okay after all?” So, I guess in the end I’ve come down on the side of thinking the coat is okay. The fit is great, the butterflies are too much, but from a distance it looks amazing.

Anyway, Blake has been all over the place this week, with the Met Gala, the Gucci Chime for Change event and then she’s just been out and about, getting photographed in NYC like in these photos. She’s also been talking to the press. And even though she’s really taken a step back from her acting career and her red carpet fashionista career over the past few years, it’s interesting to note that Blake hasn’t changed that much. She’s still trying to convince people that she doesn’t go to the gym, she loves chocolate and red carpets scare her. Some highlights from a few interviews:

Her post-Met Gala activity: ”I went to Serendipity… had frozen hot chocolate with extra peanut butter sauce on the side. Closed that place down! That’s how I do an after party!”

She loves to cook: ”I like to cook… I use a lot of fresh ingredients, which really does make a huge difference. It’s easier to be healthy when eating things that are fresh, because they are often fruits and vegetables, but I also live a very active lifestyle.”

She hates the gym: ”I’ve said before I hate the gym, I eat chocolate, yes that part is true. But what they don’t print is I hate the gym, so what I do instead is find other ways to be active… I ride bicycles, I hike, I go out and exercise in nature and I’m active that way.”

She claims her hair is a “shield”: “I hide behind it a bit because red carpets can be intimidating. And when my hair is in my face, I feel less exposed.”

Preparing for the red carpet: “I am so not confident on the red carpet. I just sit there thinking, ‘What would Gisele do?’ It is such a sensory overload. I’ve seen Solange [Knowles] perform in front of 90,000 people and I saw her [at the Met Gala] and was thinking, ‘Oh, why do we do this? This red carpet is always so scary.’ I saw her take a deep breath and put her performance face on, and you really have to do that. I’m not comfortable as me standing in front of 500 photographers, so I have to go somewhere else and pretend that I’m the confident person you hopefully expect me to be.”

Frozen hot chocolate with peanut butter sauce on the side? I don’t get it. Obviously, I don’t do gourmet desserts all that often, but is “frozen hot chocolate” really a thing? Is it just chocolate milk, or is it like a frozen block of previously hot chocolate?

As for her talk about how she isn’t confident on red carpets… gurl, please. Her problem was never a lack of confidence. She’s always loved being photographed, and I can tell because for several years, she would go to the opening of an envelope and all she could talk about was how “fun” it was to style herself.

The frozen hot chocolate I’ve had has been deeeeelicious. It’s basically like a thick chocolate slushie, mmm. I don’t know about the peanut butter sauce, though. The only time I’ve had it has been with dumplings, not with dessert.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Yum. Love the coat.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        The coat is amazing.
She’s been looking so awesome lately.

        I hate all things chocolate.

      • Kiddo says:

I hate all things peanut butter. Together we are like the anti-Reese’s candy-cup.

      • HH says:

@Kitten – you hate all things chocolate?! Breaks my heart. I count chocolate as one of my best friends. Hahahaha!

    • Ag says:

hmm, ok, i could roll with that. i’ve seen it on menus, and thought exactly what kaiser said – “so, was this hot chocolate at some point, and now it’s frozen?”

    • Leen says:

Agreed. There’s a serendipity near my place and I loooooooooooooooove their frozen hot chocolate. It’s delicious, and I am not a huge dessert person.

    • littlestar says:

Are you from Canada, LadyMTL? The coffee chain Second Cup has their own version of Serendipity’s frozen hot chocolate, and it’s pretty darn similar, imo. A very tasty summer treat. I think Second Cup even sells the frozen hot chocolate mix so you can make your own at home.

I’ve tried Serendipity’s frozen chocolate in their Vegas restaurant and it’s verrrry good, and big enough for two people to share!

  2. UmamiMommy says:

Frozen hot chocolate is a signature dessert at Serendipity 3 in NYC–it’s like an icy version of something with the same thick texture and cocoa flavor as a hot chocolate. I am so with you on the coat.

    • Belle Epoch says:

Thanks UMAMIMOMMY. Serendipity is a huge tourist spot in NYC known especially for its frozen hot chocolate. So yes, it’s a thing. Regular people and kids eat it too. I had it once and honestly can’t remember much except it was impressive looking and I ate all of it.

      • Dani says:

I hate how popular Serendipity is because I loveeee that place. I used to go there all the time with my dad and my husband was never there. The one time I took him (even with reservations) we had to wait 45 minutes. Insane.

      • Leen says:

I was so surprised when I went to NYC and there was a huge waiting list there! There’s a serendipity in DC and it’s nowhere as near as popular as the one in NYC.

  3. Lindy79 says:

The desserts in Serendipity are amazing so I’m with her on that.
I have had to be rolled out of there on more than one occasion.

Not after the MET and wearing a gown though. That’ll be on the to do list for next time.

  4. jlm says:

Love the coat, hate the shoes. Together they’re too much.

  5. Jegede says:

    Love Love The Coat

  6. Helvetica says:

    What a beautiful coat.

She bores me but I love her clothes here.

  7. aang says:

I liked her until I watched some of Gossip Girl on Netflix recently. I’ve seen blocks of wood with more emotional depth. Her legs are amazing, too bad she can’t act.

    • OriginallyBlue says:

Lol. Ya, she has a great body, but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t think she had much of a choice in taking a break from acting. Being tall and pretty only goes so far.

  8. TG says:

This interview didn’t bother me actually. I guess now that she has not shown her face so much she actually looks nice. Also she has to look at Ryan Reynolds beady eyes everyday so I kind of feel sorry for her. I wonder if she is disappointed that she married someone who hasn’t turned out to be this huge star like she was banking on? When I was young we used to make hot chocolate and then freeze it and then turn it upside down to eat it since the chocolate would settle on the bottom. I had mean brothers so sometimes they would put hot sauce in it to trick us. Those were the days.

  9. L says:

There’s a Serendipity 3 in Georgetown in DC, Vegas, and Boca Raton as well if folks wanted to try it. But yea it’s kind of like a slushee with the same texture/flavor of hot cocoa

  10. Blackwood says:

pardon my ignorance, but how can something be frozen and hot at the same time? I just don’t get it.

    • mia girl says:

      It’s actually delicious.
It has that same condensed chocolate taste/texture you get in really good hot chocolate and kind of frothy too…
but it is served cold like a slushy.

So the “hot” part is not temperature but more a reference to flavor.

    • Sisi says:

Maybe kinda like a baked alaska?

    • Nighty says:

I do love some hot and cold… 🙂 (ice-cream covered in hot chocolate, everything made at home… 🙂

  11. Kali says:

I love love love that coat (I don’t say that often about stuff she wears) but I’d love to see the makeup tweaked just a little bit. Maybe a stronger eyeshadow or a stronger lip? It’s just like “here’s this amazing print but it’s just blonde and tan above – admittedly incredibly pretty blonde and tan – and below it”.

  12. QQ says:

    love the coat too!

Also here with you on the ” Her problem was never a lack of confidence.” …. Correct! the girl has entirely much more confidence than her resume or station in the Stars Ticker would warrant… Way way more, enough that she’s made a career out of it

  13. poppy says:

she is definitely comfortable in front of 500 hundred photographers and had plenty of plastic surgery to make herself even more comfortable.
    she can’t act.

  14. Sarah says:

    I love that coat.

And the frozen hot chocolate with peanut butter at Serendipity 3 is delicious. I haven’t been there in ages. I have a hard time imagining her really eating more than a bite or two though.

  15. Gia says:

Ugh…the whole, “tee hee hee. I’m a PIGGY! And I hate working out. It’s hard being famous…it’s like I don’t want it. It wants me!!”. Bullsh-t. Get lost. Next.

    • Val says:

Haha, I feel the same. It’s the typical “Oh I couldn’t wait to eat as soon as I got away from the cameras! Yay for fries/cupcakes/junk!” *rolls eyes*

  16. Chris says:

I get this “childish” impression from her. With Ryan playing a daddy role often. Or something… IDK, maybe it’s the “I went out for ice-cream after my big event!” statement. Not that one needs to go to Rihanna’s party and do lots of blow, I just get a little girl feel from this interview. “I hide behind my hair” etc. I bet you she talks baby-talk to Ryan. And she has lots and lots of stuffed animals on her bed. Lots.

  17. eliza says:

My post Met gala activity was a bowl of Cheerios.

I like Blake. Not much of an actress but she is attractive and harmless. I like her and Ryan together. She seems uncomplicated unlike his pretentious ex.

  18. Allie says:

She has a great body and I’m quite envious if her hair but she annoys me. And please. Look at any picture of her on the red carpet and you’ll see her loving the attention. Girl is not shy

  19. Isa says:

    She has Barbie legs.

  20. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

I think she’s trying to sound relatable for when she debuts her lifestyle brand website like Jessica Alba. Hers will be different than Goop because she’s relatable but different from Alba because it will more like Martha Stewart.

  21. Mimi says:

I’m pretty ambivalent about Blake Lively in general. I think she’s pretty harmless and unoffensive but nothing sparking any emotion beyond that. I can believe she’s into cooking and baking because as far as I can recall, she talks about her skills in that area pretty much every interview and has claimed to be known for that by her cast mates (maybe in Gossip Girl? I don’t know what else she’s famous for beyond that, appearances and RR). And in fairness to BL, at least she only said she “hates the gym.” She does admit she works out besides that. One doesn’t have to be a gym rat to be a workout-aholic. And it’s not like she has much going on beyond eating choccies and going on hikes. I don’t care too much for the coat. Plus, to give her the benefit of the doubt, she could be shy. I am petrified of strangers and public speaking and yet I have a job that requires me to give presentations to strangers on a regular basis, I just put on my big girl panties and deliver, and suffer through the shakes afterwards. Most people have to put on a persona in public, probably even Gisele: standing at an angle and looking over your shoulder in that awful, awkward way that shows the lines of your dress, must feel really stupid in real life, if you aren’t putting on a show.

  22. sam says:

See you guys see what you want to see from interviews and print it out. And then the readers read what they want to read. She never said she doesn’t workout. She said she doesn’t go to the gym but does other activities to stay active and eats healthy by eating fresh foods. I believe it. Eat healthy and stay active and you’ll have a nice body too. You don’t have to go to the gym to be active and I think that’s a huge misconception among individuals.
