Prince William & Kate will travel to Italy next month for a huge society wedding

wenn21598201

After Prince William and Duchess Kate’s trip to Belgium last week to mark the centennial anniversary of the start of World War I, I think they’re pretty much done for the summer. They’re going to spend much of the next month at Sandringham, finishing up the many renovations they ordered so that they could live there permanently as of this autumn. But word is that Will and Kate will break away for a trip to Italy. It’s not just another beach vacation either – their friends are getting married!

After teaming up for official engagements last week, William, Kate, and Harry will reportedly be the star trio at the social event of September, Royal Watch can reveal. The Cambridges and Prince Harry have been invited to their good friend Charlie Gilkes’s wedding in Italy, and they are planning to celebrate in style.

The upcoming wedding will be in Italy and is set to be quite an event, even though plans for the party are currently shrouded in secrecy. The groom, Charlie Gilkes is an alum of Eton with more than a decade’s exprience running nightclubs and launching restaurants, including Mr Fogg’s and Bunga Bunga in London. He certainly knows how to throw a good bash. I’m told his gorgeous P.R. fiancée Anneke von Trotha Taylor is overseeing the V.I.P. guestlist.

“The [Cambridges] are really looking forward to it and William and Kate are planning to leave Prince George with Kate’s parents so they can go and have a good time,” a chum of theirs tells me. Gilkes is also a former flame of Pippa Middleton’s, and is reported to have popped the question to von Trotha Taylor, his girlfriend of three years, using a message inside a specially crafted fortune cookie, which he gave to Taylor while the pair were holidaying at the five-star Torre Maizza hotel in Puglia, Italy last month.

[From Vanity Fair]

Sounds like a Kimye-type wedding. And George Clooney and Amal are doing an Italian wedding too. Italian weddings are all the rage these days. And man, Kate and Will sure love to vacation away from their son, right? This will be the fourth vacation (at least) they’ve done without George just this year.

Meanwhile, have you read this hilarious takedown of Duchess Kate’s style? It’s amazing. Kate was obviously on Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed list this year – they even put her in the “Hall of Fame” gallery. But this Australian fashion columnist thinks Kate’s style is so dull. Some highlights:

As the Duchess of Cambridge is awarded the serious sartorial accolade of a place in the Vanity Fair Hall of Fame, its International Best Dressed List’s highest honour, I ask myself: why? Is it right that Kate be ‘’lauded the most polished, eclectic and stylish of dressers’’? Is it appropriate that she be rubbing shoulder pads with the likes of Anna Piaggi, Karl Lagerfeld and Catherine Deneuve? Do cap-sleeved shift dresses, nude hose and cork wedges a fashion icon make? Not in my style bible.

Not that it’s Kate’s fault; she never set out to be a fashion icon. She has been popped on a pedestal and expected to be one. It’s not an easy title to wear for a girl raised out of the spotlight by a sensible mother with a penchant for pumps. Kate is not and never has been a fashion girl. Nor has she pretended to be. As a young working mum juggling George, Zara sales, ribbon cutting and the odd cocktail-do, Kate dresses sensibly and practically. Sometimes only skinny JBrands and a mid-heel L.K. Bennett will do.

Considering Kate’s down-to-earth relationship with fashion, she does do her bit for the biz. She regularly wears British designers – Jenny Packham, Alice Temperley and Alexander McQueen (the latter ravishingly well). She is frugal, for a royal, subbing her wardrobe with cheap and cheerful pieces she picks up on the high street. Kate is a renowned repeater and regularly reinvents fave frocks, coats and shoes for weddings, race meets and poppy planting. She is desperately trying to bring back the fascinator (please stop) and has a major penchant for hardcore eye make-up. And then there is the Kate effect, and the small fact that no matter what she wears, it sells out immediately, and reportedly brings about $1.5 billion into the British economy.

There have been moments when Kate has delivered. Her knee length, nude lace dress by Alexander McQueen in 2012 was breathtaking. The Jenny Packham Grecian style, silver silk gown in 2011 astounding. She rocks casual daywear like an off-duty supermodel. Whilst these moments may earn her a best-dressed listing, her love of electric blue lace, stretchy wrap dresses and inexpensive shoes do not.

A style icon is born, not made. Personal flair is a talent, not a skill to be faked. However, should one have a desire to be an icon, they can hire a gun and bring in a stylist (hello Lady Gaga). Heavens knows Kate has enough stylish princesses on speed dial for solid regal-chic advice. Princess Mary or Queen Rania of Jordan could dispense some surefire tips on how to translate a tiara into something slightly sexier.

Which brings us back to said Hall of Fame and her new star billing. Let’s leave Kate to be the loveable duchess she is; a fabulous royal with awesome hair. In her place let’s induct an equally splendid individual, but one that stuns us with their sartorial brilliance, fearful self-expression and impeccable taste in shoes.

[From Sydney Morning Herald]

Yeah, pretty much. I actually think this columnist is being overly generous towards Kate’s basic-ness. But the bullet points are there: wedges, raccoon eyes and jeggings do not make a woman a style icon or a hall-of-famer in the fashion world.

OMG you guys…they’re going to be soo tired.

    • Miss Bennett says:

      Yes, poor things!
Maybe Katy Krotchcover can use this down time to come up with a new pose. One that better showcases her “iconic” fashion choices.

      • Pippa mids says:

        AIMS
        +1b

+ Its insulting to us ‘regular’ for someone who who blown 4.5 .illion pounds on renovation they won’t be using, to act like they are thrifty , recycling junk (as to BRF wealth), clothes and garb. That’s the action of someone with poor taste and no flavour of what style is and chic royal attire.

These two gone into hiding, so they can maintain their lavish expensive vacations without P George, (as ma carole friend stated in an article, Waity visits to ma all the time to Willnot middleton mansion regularly, and without nannies, where once through the door she hand off PG to ma). So beware – another workless lazy self indulged heir with no sense of duty to the people, only take and abuse tax payers funds!

      • Miss Bennett says:

        @Pippa mids
Three things, what does AIMS mean? And for my second question, what is +1b and lastly, you know I was being sarcastic right? 🙂

    • Ally8 says:

@Darkladi, a great LOL to start. Thanks!

  2. aims says:

I don’t want to judge or shame anyone in their parental choices but; four vacations in a year without their son seems excessive. He just turned one and before my ass gets handed to me, I think it’s fine to get a break from the kiddo once in a while. But they also have help, so they’re once again not like the rest of us.

    • Megan says:

Since they are likely to be gone for two nights I would not classify this as a vacation.

      • FLORC says:

Harry’s vacation with Cressida was a weekend vacation or 2 nights. Will and Kate’s Aussie/NZ tour had a built in vacation of 2 nights.

This is travel for pleasure to see friends get married abroad. If they flew in attended the wedding, stayed the night, and left the next day I wouldn’t say it was a vacation.

        Aims
Even the vacations George has been brought on (Mustique) Nannies were there.
And you’re right. They’re not like us. The sooner they drop this facade he sooner people will have less issue.

      • AM says:

Part of the issue is that they make every excuse not to work because of George, and yet as soon as a vacation opportunity pops up, they decide they deserve a “break”.

      • FLORC says:

        AM
I think the Press releases say they need a break for the spin. I think they might approach it like most couples do… Another wedding? Can’t we just send a gift?
Or maybe not as they see it as justified leave.

I get your point though and agree. Their work schedules are clear and there’s so much help with George. What exactly do they do that they’re exhausted from? Jet lag? All day Shopping trips?
Does anyone actually know what they fill their days with? Is there any work or duty at all?

      • AM says:

        FLORC,
I do think, based on Twitter sightings, that she spends much of her days shopping – and remember, she also shops online. I would wager that she spends some time it’s George, but given that she has almost always been spotted with a nanny when she’s taken him out, I would guess that the nannies are quite involved in his day as well.

And this is after baby. I can only imagine how she filled her days when she was just his girlfriend living in Wales.

      • Vava says:

I suspect they’ll be gone longer than 2 nights – and this is definitely going to be a vacation. That is what they do best!

      • notasugarhere says:

As someone else suggested, extending it to a week vacation and the “excuse” will be the Malta visit depending on the dates.

    • notasugarhere says:

And I would classify it as a vacation. To each their own.

      • Pippa mids says:

Vava AM Sugar Historian and others –
        So on target.

Work ethics of this workless Waity, ma carole lot is so OFF! And to say they created wealth from buz makes no sense. P willy have been funding their lavish lifestyles for a decade; let’s hope its PC duchy and not tax payers, although we foot the bill for his security and maintenance.

We have the true Waity doolittle – run home to ma workless lazy child wife mom ( ma PR seems to controls her and willy relationship).

On the other we have this made up RF member wife mom to princes, who can’t seem to grow up from her 20s and become a true RF member – the fake creation and phoniness fools noone and is an embarassment lack respect to HM the Duke and monarch history.

    • Liv says:

I totally agree. I understand if you do a short trip or you have to go overseas just for a couple of days which would be too stressful for the child and you then leave it behind. But seriously, my parents ALWAYS vacationed with four kids! We were family and they didn’t want to exclude us.

I totally get when parents leave the child with the grandparents to make a short trip or vacation to have time on their own, but these two constantly leave George behind and he just turned one!

      • Pippa mids says:

When do the royals have stress travel – Never!!
we regular folks have stress travel and their Firm, not Royals.

Such useless life for lazy Waity- shop spa shop!! Not even taking care of her baby (I guess she is a baby too for 20 something and need her ‘ma’).

Princess B York could even be more of a style icon than phony workless Waity! Her once in awhile interesting hats and all.

Prince Harry, B*E are so much more regal and tend to represent HM the RF and duty than these two Cannot and Willnot.

  3. Abbott says:

With the wedges, raccoon eyes, and jeggings, she’s one jar of white make up away from starting a KISS cover band. Live the dream, Katy Kambridge!

  4. Red Snapper says:

So, off to an Italian wedding, right when Wills is starting his training. Just like normal people then.

    • notasugarhere says:

The training will be bespoke, just like the Cambridge course was. The training and work schedule will be made to fit around whatever William feels like doing.

      • AM says:

His original RAF training was bespoke as well (which honestly concerns me about his flying skills). One day when I have time, I’m going to go back and see how many times the Palace has used ‘bespoke’ to describe his coursework over the years.

    • Pippa M says:

If only King (Prince) Harry could fall for and marry royalty or a Lady like his mom, would be great! Put
Workless Waity ma carole (think she grander than QEll, whAt. a laugh!) mudlletrash. Show Waity doolittle her non respect lack class to her position . Put ma corela muddleton social climber. Right in theiir place.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I have always said that Kate looks appropriate for her job (when not bum flashing). The nude hose, for example, are not stylish, but they are appropriate. I guess it’s old-fashioned, but I think it would be too casual for her to be bare legged. I think that’s the most important thing she has to consider. She’s not a fashion icon by any means, and I think she needs to update her hair and makeup, and her jewelry game could be so much better, and her shoe game, but I think she usually looks fine, even pretty, and appropriate. (When she’s not…you know.) I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s unfair for people to expect her to be more than that. It’s a talent that you can’t fake, and she doesn’t have.

    • GiGi says:

There are very few royal women whom I would call fashion icons. It’s just not really part of it. Aside from Sheikha Mozah. Even the royal women (outside of the BRF) who wear couture always have it adapted so it looks appropriate.

For royal engagements, Kate wears, quite literally, younger versions of what the Queen wears – sensible shoes, stockings, a dress, an lovely coat and a pocketbook. Camilla dresses the same way.

If you ever go out and look at, say, the wedding of one of the other royal families, the women are wearing, what I call, “royal dresses” – the material is usually heavier, the styling more modest, than what you would see a non-royal person wearing.

      • LAK says:

        I love Sheikha Mozah’s style.

        She’s awesome.

Also, VF is just sucking up to Kate. Hoping she’ll grant them an interview. Ditto every socialite they cosy up to or praise.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, Gigi, you said what I meant but said it better.

      • LAK says:

Also wanted to add that whilst Kate dresses like a 80something HM, the young HM was quite stylish and not fuddy duddy at all. She was quite fashionable and dressed her age.

      • Dena says:

I love Sheikha Mozah as well. She is bad-ass in terms of her fashion choices.

Kate is pedestrian in her fashion choices. If what she wears sales out, it’s because it’s relatable and accessible to the masses in that bland conformist kind of way (or there weren’t many left in stock to begin with). People, especially those holding strong to the American myth of rugged-individualism, are really mindless sheep. I’ve digressed. Sorry. Anyway, I wonder if there has been a run on black eye-liner😸😼🙀?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

LAK, I agree and think she still has flair in her dress. That woman can wear the jewelry!

      • ArtHistorian says:

Sheika Mozah has a fabolous style – she wears some serious couture. However, she is not restained like her European counterparts in that she has to think about what public reaction to her exorbitantly expensive couture. She is not part of a constitutional monarchy and it really makes a difference.

Personally, I was pleased to CP Mary as third on Vanity Fair’s list. I really like her fashion choices and she really does have a distinct style. She also has a professional stylist who has been with her since her engagement and I think that’s big a big part in how she’s evolved her royal style. Finally, CP mary really knows how to rock formal wear – I love when she and the Queen whip out the gala dresses.

      • notasugarhere says:

What surprises me about Sheika Mozah’s fashion is that it is often body conscious. She may be covered from head-to-toe in fabric, but sometimes that fabric is pretty tight!

    • eliza says:

Personally, I cannot stand the bare legged trend, especially in the winter. Quite frankly not everyone has the legs to go bare and it is not, in my opinion, always appropriate. I will say I dislike Kate’s thick looking hose. They almost look like support hose. She needs to try Donna Karan or Calvin Klein hosiery which are almost like going bare legged.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hate that trend as well, eliza. My legs are white as snow in the winter and it just looks stupid on me. But I feel old fogeyish in nude hose, so I usually wear black tights, but they don’t go with everything. I end up wanting to slap whoever decided nude hose were over, and wanting to slap myself for caring.

      • joy says:

I think the hose might be some sort of BRF requirement for certain events. But I agree that not everyone, myself included, has the legs to just be bare year round.

      • LNG says:

Agree GoodNames! I am wearing nude hose right now. Even in the summer, my legs are a serious shade of white and need a little help! I am way too self conscious over both my legs and my love of my nude security blanket, haha

      • AM says:

Kate and Pippa both wore hose long before Kate married in. I think it’s a BRF requirement, but a convenient requirement for Kate.

      • FLORC says:

Hose Is part of the dress code. She is required to wear them.

        AM
You know what else Kate worse before she married William? Slips, hem weights, and panties. Fun Fact!

      • AM says:

        FLORC,
Ha! You’re too much! To be fair, I don’t think anyone thought they’d have to instruct Kate to wear underwear as part of Princess Lessons.

      • Ronia says:

Wearing hose or socks (high) is etiquette, not royal family requirement. Bare legs is… disgusting. To me. Hose/socks – mandatory, except on beach vacations and cottage weekends, and camping. Etiquette, plain and simple.

      • wolfpup says:

LNG, I left a few comments during the last royal post for you, at the end of all the conversations.

Other than that, I am tired folks, later.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’m a bit puzzled by the dislike for nude hose – I like those with a bit of sheen and I really think that they lift and outfit better than black hose. Maybe, it is because woem generally wear think black hose (me included) her in DK, for almost everything and there are some styles this doesn’t work with.

      • LNG says:

wolfpup: my apologies, I am just seeing that now! No worries and no offence taken – I don’t ever take anything on here personally, and I respect your opinions and contributions to these discussions! I took your initial post in a different way than you intended it, and I apologize for that 🙂

    • Chris says:

      Quite agree, GNAT
She’s never evinced any interest in fashion beyond a Boden catalogue vibe, that’s what she’s comfortable with. Grand! But repeated views of this here hat (main pic) do make me want to ban certain items!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, I actually liked that hat the first time I saw it. Now I want to snatch it off her head and stomp on it.

      • Hazel says:

Mmm, yeah, she’s Normcore Kate! Can’t explain the hats, though….

    • LNG says:

Agree! If the bum flashing would stop, that would be wonderful. I don’t think she’ll ever be breaking down any fashion barriers, but I think she usually looks good (with sometimes fantastic, and sometimes terrible in there too). Its the hair (please no more centre part ever again) and the makeup that make me cringe. I can understand why she is so understated with her jewelry, but I wish she would give us more shiny things to look at!!

    • wow says:

      All of this!

    • Shelby says:

I like Sheikha Mozah’s style as well. Even though she’s from Qatar and Middle-Eastern women are expected to dress conservatively, the restrictions has never beeen an issue for her to wear couture clothes with so much flair! Wearing a Chanel couture gown with a white turban and an icicle-inspired heels? Only Sheikha Mozah can deliver something like that!

Also, there’s an interesting article on why Sheika Mozah never became a popular fashion icon to the masses. The gist is that the Qatari Royal Family has never piqued the interest of Western media when they do their royal appearances unless they are with their European counterparts and her style is too high fashion for the ordinary folks to appreciate and relate with. Mixing Topshop with Alexander McQueen is not something Mozah has ever done since she’s all about wearing Valentino (which they now own), Roland Mouret, and Chanel. Too bad her husband abdicated last year in favor of their son so we don’t see her public appearances has become limited. She’s actually the former emir’s second wife so it also affects how Western women see her.

Here’s the link to the article: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/04/09/why-you-ve-never-heard-of-the-world-s-best-dressed-royal.html

      • Dena says:

I loved seeing those shoes peaking out under her dress!!!

My only complaint is that she looks like she wears a bit too much foundation and that it’s perhaps much (a bit) lighter than her skin-tone. Other than that she rocks it.

Not even fashion-wise (cause that can be superficial) but Kate honestly can’t hold a candle to (or even for) so many of the women on the national stage.

      • Dena says:

        Meant to write international stage.

Yesterday I asked (and am still hoping 4 an answer): How do u get to be 30+ with the sum of your life experiences only involving that of your family and your husband/boyfriend?

      • FLORC says:

        Dena
I think Kate might have just wanted to be a kept housewife. She’s never launched herself towards anything outside of William. Her life is his life.

You live for someone else and not yourself. And when that person is also someone who isn’t very driven to achieve things in life, well. You just become someone who exists in a superficial way. Sadly, all she has accomplished is a marriage, birthing an heir, and appearance.

        And that’s all a shame.

EDIT: She did get her degree. Only that’s seen as more of a joke with all her Art History flubs and hasn’t exercised her use of it for even the home decorating.

      • AM says:

I don’t mean to be too harsh, because it’s a great accomplishment that Kate earned a degree from St. A’s, but William was also there. She didn’t have to choose between pursuits. Would have been interesting to see what she’d have done if he’d transferred or left school entirely.

      • Dena says:

        @Florc & AM

        Thanks.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

It is not quite accurate to say that Kate has never pursued anything other than William. The truth is that a. William was Kate’s first priority since they began dating and b. Kate doesn’t know how to dust herself off and start over when her efforts fail.
For most of her life Kate was dedicated to her family, her education and lots of outside interests at school and in her community. She appears to have been friendly, funny, adventurous, athletic and kind, although shy. All of the William drama is what seems to have sucked the life right out of her. She wanted to pursue photography but caved on the idea once she was criticized. She started a line of children’s clothing that was supposed to correlate with her parents’ business but that also fell through. She would have eventually found her footing, career wise, had she not decided that what William wanted was far more important. Sad, really.

      • Hazel says:

Queen Rania always looks lovely & chic, too, as well as appropriate. You’ve either got it, or you don’t.

    • Bucky says:

I agree with you. Boring but appropriate, except in the case of some mishaps.

That said, I was looking at old pictures of the Queen not too long ago, and I could not believe how stylish she was in some of them! There was one where she was in this stunning maxi dress (very 60s/70s), and her hats were EPIC.

      • notasugarhere says:

@Bucky. Did you see the Vanity Fair review of HM’s hats for the Diamond Jubilee? The comments they wrote about the hats are great – especially about the floral bathing caps in the 60s.

        www(dot)vanityfair(dot)com/society/2012/05/diamond-jubilee-hats-queen-elizabeth

      • Bucky says:

        @notasugarhere I hadn’t seen that! Thank you!

There was this sort of caftan she wore to meet Jimmy Carter, and she paired it with these incredible diamond earrings, and I WANT IT ALL. I would wear that caftan every day.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ooh, very interesting, both of you. Fun pics to look up. Thanks!

  6. eliza says:

HOW DO THEY DO IT? I am simply exhausted when I read their schedule, to actually live it, OMG! I hope they take some time off soon.

  7. Jegede says:

Looking forward to the outfits. Nothing more to add

  8. Hazel says:

I completely agree with the writer. In fact, considering the hoopla over that red coat-dress she wore when she got off the plane (Oz or NZ, can’t remember–anyway, it flew up), I thought perhaps VF was being a bit snarky when they mentioned that ensemble as especially noteworthy…. The Duchess will not dress with fearless self-expression, much as we’d like her to. Ah, well.

  9. Chris says:

I meant to say, initially assumed this was about THE Italian Job: Clooney’s. Blimey what a gossip-fest that would be!

  10. Savanna says:

I own quite a few “copy-Kate” pieces and I do love a lot of what she wears. The thing though is that none of it is new. She’s not doing anything groundbreaking or different. Some of those shift dresses are gorgeous for comfortable workwear, etc.

Maybe I’m calling myself out as a basic bitch for admitting her style is simple, classic and well, basic – and still liking it.

But I work in an office setting where a lot of those dresses are work appropriate. If I was a duchess with as much access to clothing/designers and JEWELRY for heaven’s sake, I would dress very differently than she usually does.

    • Chris says:

Oh I don’t think there’s much wrong with her style, it’s certainly her own, to judge from all those dull print dresses for years before Duchessdom. (She’s not actually misguided, in the way that we might say Fergie was, in her choices. Mind you, the 80s made fooks of many of us)
It’s fun to use her as a doll on which to imagine other styles, that’s all, and individual garments can be decried without any malice towards her.
Thanks to ArtHistorian, LAK and others here, I’m becoming a fan of Queen Maxima (Maxime?) who does have more dash for her cash, but La Cambridge is a warm milky drink next to her espresso!

      • ArtHistorian says:

        Chris,
80’s fashion is a period that should never be “revived” as so many fashion houses has raided the 50s and 60s fashion trends. I was a child in the 80s so the fashion didn’t impact me, but looking back at my fashion choices in the 90s, I can only sigh and say to myself “what were you thinking?”. Though I did rock the grunge look nicely with patterned dresses, burgundy Docs and my dad’s wollen socks! LOL

    • ArtHistorian says:

I love it Queen Maxima’s maximist approach to fashion. She really isn’t afraid to take sartorial risks – sometimes that doesn’t pay off but when it does it is glorious!

I personally really love CP Mary’s style as in that is something that I would love to wear, and her style is very close to my own (colours, silhouette, etc.) – however, Queen Maxima is just amazing to watch because she takes these chance that many of her European counterparts don’t. And her personality always shines through, even in photos. She seems to be one charismatic lady.

  11. Suzanne says:

Is it just me or she beginning to show aging on her face? She looks more mature in the face since the baby was born. Kids will do that….for sure.

  12. wow says:

That Vanity Fair poll has become a joke. Wasn’t Cressida Bonas in that issue or given an honorable mention or something like that? SMH?

Kate’s style is prettt basic., but she wears it well. She fits the look of the royal brand. The media needs a royal darling and Kate is it. They will build her up over something as simple as pytting on clothes that other people put together or design. It’s not hard for most people. They do the same thing about George…act as if he’s the first kid ever to giggle, laugh or walk. That’s how the media work.

  13. Mrs McCubbins says:

She’s hit and miss in my opinion. As for the jeggings, She looks fantastic in them because she has a great figure. I wear them too! I would not say she’s what one would call a fashion icon though. They’re going to a friend’s wedding so I wouldn’t classify it as a vacation. Big deal. They’re gone for two days.

    • FLORC says:

Not to start the great jeggings debate again… but!
Just because you can wear them doesn’t mean they’re appropriate. Like showing up to a funeral in a bikini. You can wear it and look great, but is it really appropriate for a ceremony?

Regarding the friends wedding. Right! It’s not like they have anything they need to rush back for 😉
But really. I think 2 days traveling and 1 overnight would cover a wedding. Anything over that is taking in your time there and more of a quick weekend getaway.
And the point that people are looking to make is they can’t find time to make a single charity visit for a long, long time, but they can take 2 days to travel to a friends destination wedding. And with George left behind clearly he can be left with the nannies for 2 days. Why can’t he be left for 2 hours to visit a charity?

That’s the point. Not simply the dastardly duo seeks to vacation while taxpayers are drained for their travel and security costs! Mwuahahaha!
I’m not against them going to a friends wedding. I just don’t think they can claim they have no time to work for an hour or 2 a month, but make time for this.

      • AM says:

Exactly. If they worked, no one would say boo about the majority of the issues we discuss here.

    • ArtHistorian says:

I don’t understand jeggins. I don’t think they are flattering at all, even one women with skinny legs. And I don’t think that flatter Kate’s figure. But then I just really dislike this particular garment in itself.

  14. The Original Mia says:

Going to society weddings is the one thing these two are dedicated and consistent about. And their fans see nothing wrong with these two doing the minimum, but expecting/demanding the most.

  15. Vava says:

^ The press does need a royal darling, and she is it for the time being. But their attempt to call her a style icon is a real joke and sort of insulting to our intelligence. The same thing goes when her fans attack others who don’t share their opinions by saying they are jealous of her. Give me a break.

I think Kate’s flashing of her rear end and upper thighs is really tacky for someone in her role, and for that she continues to make me question if she’s very intelligent or mature. Her lack of public speaking skills leads me to question if she is up to the job she has taken by marrying this prince. OK, I know these things aren’t fashion or ‘style’, but they contribute to the overall package that we see when the media reports on her appearances. Some of her behaviors are really juvenile as well: 1. hair flicking and sniffing, 2. inappropriate attire for work (skin tight blue jeggings, anyone? Insisting on wearing inappropriate shoes for the task at hand?), and 3. the over-the-top hand gestures and manic mouth openings. All this stuff really makes it difficult to admire her.

    • Chris says:

But what you say can be refuted by others, with equal aptness on both sides.
The thing is not so much to be a ‘darling’, but a cypher, a focus for a confusion of admiration, apathy, bile, hopes, disappointments, instructions…..for every plus there’s a minus, in our general reception of her. Given the size of her ‘audience’, it’s bound to include the wildest of extremes….criticising her for not being a blonde pocket Venus with the brain of Prof Mary Beard, through to lauding her as the greatest style icon since Grace Kelly/Bet Lynch/Joan Collins, with the ability to turn a wet day sunny.
(Just having a general waffle here Vava, not involving you specifically )

    • Lucky Charm says:

“I think Kate’s flashing of her rear end and upper thighs is really tacky for someone in her role”
      – and for someone her age, royal or not! It’s one thing for a teenage Diana to be photographed ONCE with the sunlight showing her legs through her skirt, or her cleavage to come perilously close to spilling out ONE TIME, but quite another for a 30-something woman to continually have wardrobe malfunctions over and over again.

  16. Murphy says:

To everyone who is saying “2 days does not a vacation make”–to the average working person–yes I would agree with you. But keep in mind these two work 1 day a week if we’re LUCKY. Usually its 1 day a month. So relative to that–yes this is a vacation.

  17. SoCal says:

You would think she was attending a wedding while in Belgium with that stupid hat! Of course she will repeat it for the Italian wedding and be revered for being thrifty.

I can’t stand it when Kate wears those jeggings, she needs a new casual outfit. A nice blouse with a skirt and kitten heels or low wedges would work wonders.

  18. GracePM says:

Best line – please stop trying to bring back the fascinator.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Ugh, I hate fascinators! But then I’m a big hat kind of girl. I love those big and simple wide-brimmed hats that Queen Maxima, Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte and Princess Michael of Kent wears so well.

      • Feeshalori says:

I am totally not fascinated by fascinators. Give me a big garden party hat any time, like Camilla also wears. She rocks the plumes, too!

  19. Megan says:

Nice leak on Charlie Gilkes’ part. This is certainly garnering lots of for free advertising for his clubs.

  20. Exactly how many “friends” do they have and how have they not married off yet? It seems like between shopping and doing f–k all you can always count on them being at a wedding. I think these two do more weddings than they do Royal work. The RF should just hire them out for weddings to make some extra dosh because that’s the only thing Lazy WILL turn up to.

I can’t even with the style icon. I think the world gave a collective half arsed ha! to that one. Selling out a few Zara dresses does not an icon make. Let’s just agree that this girl has no fashion sense, she doesn’t seem to want to be a part of that and the fashion world just needs to give it a rest because it ain’t happening. But if I ever want 5 million ways to wear navy i might consider looking her up (probably not).

I take offense to “She rocks casual daywear like an off-duty supermodel” because she doesn’t. Off duty supermodels can pull off jeans, a tshirt and flips flops and still make it look expensive and fashionable. I know, I live in Paris so it kind of invalidates my point but if you want to see effortless fashion look no further than the streets. No giant labels, no trendy pieces, most of it is basic (and mostly black) but it’s chic. And it looks effortless. There’s no layers of makeup and hours spent on hair, and yet they look good. I don’t see that on Waity. I see try hard. London and Paris are different scenes so I guess across the pond Waity’s style is deemed some high art but in my opinion it isn’t.

    • Dena says:

      Thank u!

    • Olenna says:

Couldn’t agree more! And, my gosh, how can someone be photographed so much with their mouth wide out?!

    • The Original Mia says:

Seriously…how big is their circle of friends because mine were married off within 5 years of us graduating college? Seems like every other week they are going to a wedding. As you said, those…they can be counted on showing up to, no matter what.

Her taste borders on blah. She’s had a few wow dresses, but I can count those on one hand and seem to be the ones she never repeats. She needs to burn those jeggings and wedges and those LK Bennet nudes.

    • FLORC says:

Agree with so many of your posts and this is no exception!

They are the couple that get invited from friends of friends or aquaintances. I doubt all of these couples are real friends. More circles that know other circles.
This is a scenerio where my husband and I would talk. How close are we with them? When did we last speak? Are we really friends or fair weathered? Do we want to use the time off? And more.
So, if you know me IRL (and you don’t) I would judge and weigh your value of friendship to me. That is how precious my days off are! If I attend we must be best buddies and you should be flattered 🙂

      • The Original Mia says:

Mine? I’m honored. I love reading your posts. So spot on!

See…the difference between you & the Lamebridges is the fact you actually work during the week, thereby making the time you have off precious. When you do nothing for days and weeks at a time, then getting away for all the society weddings is a spot of fun.

    • Vava says:

LOL………….great comments about Paris. Very true. French women just have a knack for looking elegant. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen Kate look elegant. Even if she gets an ensemble pretty well put together, then that dreadful makeup is all wrong or her posture is horrible and she walks with a long stride. She just seems……….clumsy and out of place. Awkward behaviors.

“But if I ever want 5 million ways to wear navy i might consider looking her up (probably not).” This got a good chuckle out of me. Thanks for the laugh!

    • ArtHistorian says:

For a genuine style icon just look to the Russian-born designer Ulyana Sergeenko. She wears everything with style and panache, from casual daywear to avantgarde couture.

      • notasugarhere says:

I used to get FashionTV (for a few brief months before it was removed from the cable package). It had behind-the-scenes at fashion shows, documentaries on the Cannes Film Festival, documentaries on designers, etc.

I cannot remember her name, but there was another Russian in the fashion world who was incredibly stylish in her choices (not Russian Vogue editor but someone that high up). She’s absolutely tiny (small size and stature), but even through her pregnancy she was chic beyond belief. Wish I could remember her name!

  21. Jasmine says:

She forgot to mention the buttons. So many buttons

  22. Switch says:

Sometimes I think Kate’s best asset is her body. Without such a nice figure she wouldn’t look so good because her fashion/styling isn’t that spectacular or noteworthy. She dresses safely like she is trying to gain public acceptance of her as a royal – not as someone who is a fashion icon or has a strong sense of personal style. She selects clothing that she thinks will make her look like a royal. I agree she looks nice for the most part because she is thin, wears $$ clothing, and has the benefit of royal tailors to custom fit her clothing to her body. I can hardly believe she stimulates a $1.5 billion fashion industry. Especially if many of her clothing is bespoke.

  23. Angee says:

I just want to know: WHERE’S GEORGE??

  24. aurelia says:

MERCY just googled Sheikha Mozah. Woman is FIERCE! Can’t help thinking Eva Mandez is trying hard to emulate her.

This journalist in the article was obviously way way too generous to waity kate. Off duty supermodel. Snort Snort.

    • FLORC says:

Right! Fierce really does cover it. She’s fashion and she rocks it. Not just putting things on. She wants to look styled, but still strong and intelligent.

When I think off duty supermodel I think Kerr. Her street style isn’t anything, but she makes it look great.
And Kate has a few casual styles. Her true casual imo is only seen from someone snapping a cellphone shot from across the street. She’s not put together. Neither am I though. The only people in my area that get dressed up to go shopping are people trying too hard. Casual style means just that. No fuss casual.

    • Jocelyn says:

I just googled her too. She looks awesome!

  25. Chameleon says:

Once upon a time… wasn’t there something between Gilkes and Pippa Middleton?

I bet the Dolittles will also do a vacation in Italy – to recover from the stress of working as an unpaid air ambulance pilot who doesn’t do nightshifts.

    • AM says:

Indeed. It’s rare the wedding they attend where Pippa hasn’t tried to marry into the groom’s money/title/status.

      • Pippa mids says:

Social climbing and workless lazy hangers on for expensive luxury vacations is not his thing nor Nico so he dumbed for a classier wife.

Lazy workless waity doolittle don’t have firends so wjat witj a monthly if not weekly weddings – to be seen,! Give us Prince george with uncle Prince Harry anytime instead of these two.

      • Pippa mids says:

Anything P willnot and lazy Waity doolittle excuse to get away from P George and his nannies.

        VaVa Sugar, AN.
I agree . Fas Icon HAB. the only Icon Waity is for a decade of courting P willnot! Nothing regal in dressing a regular person wears these to work and Waity is far removed from Q Maxima, Letiicia or CP Mary Victoria. Where is the quite regal royal – HM. P Margaret, Beatrice P Anne in her days,

Where is the royal quite regal class? Not our everyday office wear.

  26. AM says:

Did anyone see the pictures of Pippa out with Nico and sans eyeliner? I think it confirms one theory I read that they all have differently shaped eyes and use the eyeliner to disguise that.

  27. Lucky Charm says:

I wonder if her “work” trip to Malta will be combined with this trip to Italy? Either before or after, so that she’ll have another free day (or three) to travel between the two from one engagement to the other, thereby extending her vacation even more.

  28. Leaflet says:

People demand respect be given to Will & Kate when they leave George at home, even if it is for a wedding. Let it be known before I say this that I cannot stomach Kimye, but when Kimye does travel without their child, all hell breaks loose. You guys let it rip without mercy. Everyone knows that Will and Kate have nannies and Kate admit tingly said that Will doesn’t see George that much. Also, It is my belief that Kate doesn’t spend as much time with George, even when she is at home, because she knows she has nannies. I say that to say this, please stop the bias. I find it to be quite contradictory at times. How is attending a wedding not a very mini vacay? They could have traveled with the baby and had a sitter watch the child during the wedding or bought the baby to the wedding.

    • Dena says:

How bourgeois of you to suggest the Cambridge’s child accompany them? Tsk. Tsk. He will remain with nanny where he belongs until he is at an appropriate age to be interesting.

    • Mrs McCubbins says:

Would you tell me what proof you base that belief on? I’m interested, seriously I would like to know.

      • Leaflet says:

        Mrs McCubbins,
I never said that I could prove it. However, I did say that I believe it. It’s sort of like when some say that Kim doesn’t spend time with Nori. Do they have proof that she does not? No. Yet, they believe it because she shoots her reality show. Yet, her having cameras follow her around to shoot her show doesn’t mean that she doesn’t take frequent breaks to parent her kid because the show seems staged any way. They could take breaks and pick up where they left off. After all, no reality show is really “reality”. I believe that Kate doesn’t spend lots of time with George (referring to the same amount of time regular parents spend with their kids) because she shops a lot, and she spends time on her remodeling projects, as well as her hanging out with her friends, I doubt that she spends as much time with him as the average mom. After all, if she did, I doubt she would ditch her son at her parents house just to attend a wedding or for her to go on more than one vacay for the year. Keeping it real, no common, good parent does that, or they would be accused of not being involved with their child as much as they ought to be. Just seems like Will and Kate rely on “the help” (nannies and Kate’s parents) a bit too much.

      • Vava says:

@ Leaflet, do you think Kate has friends? If she does, they seem well hidden.

      • Leaflet says:

        @ Vava,
Haha. I do believe that Kate has friends, especially from when she attended uni. The friends would have come because they knew that she would be the one Will chose to marry. I just believe that the young lady does a great job of concealing them. After all, Kate would need someone to complain about the BRF to that won’t go blabbing it all.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I feel really uncomfortable when people make claims like this because we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. I actually believe that Kate spends a lot of time with her son. Pictures of her and George from the NZ/Australia tour certainly indicate that he’s very comfortable with his mother. And I loved some pics from one of they days off in Australia where she was walking George in a park, with him riding on her shoulders.

I really don’t think that any of us has the right to judge her on her parenting since we don’t know her. It the same same when the ladies on Royal Dish viciously accuse CP Mary for not loving her children, especially when photos disprove this. I think it is perfectly fine to criticize them for their lack of work, their excessive spending, how they conduct themselves in public and on duty, but I really do feel that speculating on their private life is unseemly – like the state of their marriage and their parenting – because, let’s face it, we don’t know anything about that.

  29. Pippa mids says:

Wedding trip is a vacation sabs P George. So many weddings!!

All Willy and King Harry friends. Waity only friends arer ma carole and fam and their dtrategy to snag Willy over the decade.

Jeggings inappropriate for a royal wear to any event. Waity Art history stuydies need to review royal regal wears and underr her nose is HM.

Take a look at the dress at the Comm Games, while meeting the sprinter Bolt, the dress was paste to her anorexic front and one can see from her groin area thighs down – nothing to the imagination – Not RF dress material. Flasher!!!

  30. Pippa mids says:

    Miss Bennet,
Sorry upstream reply was not meant for your post,

There seem to be lots of gremlins trolls messing with comments. Had to.repost multi times.

    Vava same goes.
