I think its a very savvy commercial – its a targeted ad, aimed at getting Millennials out to the polls to vote on the issues many of them care a lot about (marriage equality, immigration reform, better gun laws, climate change, etc.) . Lena is wearing a (unflattering) romper not her underwear, which is her “lane” – that so-ugly-its-cute vintage style she seems to like. I love that song, its a great to work out to.
Rock the Vote has been helpful to get young people to vote, and maybe on paper, this specific video concept made sense.
But in execution, sorry IMO this video is beyond terrible.
Khm this is a mess; but I’m kinda jealous of Americans because you can use pop culture to tell young people to have a voice and stand up for something; at least they are naming some issues here… In my country presidential candidates are using Catholic Church and their services to talk to the community and no one is directly sending any message to young people. I think that’s far worse. Pretty soon there will be no young people here to vote anyway.
I saw the commercial on TV yesterday during some Entertainment show. The logo “Turn up for what” doesn’t make any sense. Shouldn’t it be “Turn up to vote”? Either way, young people are way too smart to just show up to vote because of a stupid commercial. They want to vote for candidates who stand for things they believe in. Let the candidates do the talking…not celebs.
It’s ‘turn out for what’, as in ‘voter turn out’ mixed with Lil Jon’s ‘Turn down for what’….
I wasn’t able to indulge in a lot of classic 80s and 90s television growing up. We lived in the middle of no where, on a farm, with no cable or satellite which meant 3 local channels….but I was able to watch the Fresh Prince for years. Alfonso’s video/link just lit up my whole day..I forgot he was on DWTS this season (although I haven’t watched in years). His enthusiasm is infectious. Thanks for sharing.
