Gwyneth Paltrow is low-mainenance: ‘I’d rather die than be studying my face’

goop1

Here is the latest image from Gwyneth Paltrow’s ad campaign for Max Factor. I think it’s hilarious that Max Factor hired Gwyneth Paltrow – and it’s probably a very lucrative contract too – and then they made her “dress up” as iconic women, because Gwyneth’s look simply wasn’t enough. Not to mention the fact that Gwyneth barely “transforms” into the people they want her to be. She’s already posed as Audrey Hepburn, Madonna, Farrah Fawcett and Brigette Bardot – go here to see those images. This new image is supposed to be Gwyneth as a Marilyn Monroe homage. Er. NO. Marilyn was light and tragic and warm and funny. Gwyneth is icy, stuck-up and smug. It’s killing me that no one at Max Factor has just gone ahead and made her do the OBVIOUS one: Grace Kelly. I mean, Goop has been trying to be Grace Kelly for most of her career. She’s had enough practice.

Meanwhile, from the same woman who gave us “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin” and “I would rather die than let my kid eat Cup-A-Soup,” Gwyneth has a new proclamation: “I’d rather die than be studying my face.” Oh, Goop.

She may be one of the world’s most scrutinised women, but you’d be mistaken for thinking Gwyneth Paltrow spends hours labouring over her looks. The 42-year-old has revealed that she ‘isn’t the type’ to look in the mirror and study her face and is extremely low-maintenance when it comes to getting ready.

Speaking to Stylist’s Joanna McGarry about her morning beautifying routine, the A-lister said: ‘I’d rather die than be studying my face. I just brush my teeth and try to get dressed and get everyone up. I don’t tend to wear much make-up either.’

The glamorous mother-of-two, who is getting set to launch a Goop-branded range of fashion and beauty products, also explains that she’s been on a journey of self-acceptance and is happy with her looks.

She said: ‘I’m pretty content with my looks at this point. I like my wrinkles and you know, I like what I see. I try to appreciate the incredible life I’ve lived and all I’ve learned. I like that all of that is written on my face.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I think “not wearing makeup” and “being comfortable with wrinkles” are actually two separate issues. I’ll buy that Gwyneth doesn’t wear much makeup in her private life. We’ve seen enough bare-faced candid photos of her where I feel like she’s telling the truth about that. But I also think Goop has partaken in some Botox and such and I believe she’s probably obsessed with feeling “young.” That’s what Goop is all about. But I appreciate that Gwyneth is still trying to convince everyone (Chris Martin) that she’s so low-maintenance (like Jennifer Lawrence). Gwyneth even chanced upon a pizza once and she didn’t hork!

    Bitch, please.

    • Birdix says:

there’s no way that forehead hasn’t seen some botox. not buying it.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

Or the couple of nose augmentations she has had.

I think she has been taking lessons from Rimes on how to be an uber hypocrite and liar. 😉

  2. QQ says:

well you can’t scrutinize your face when you are too busy in your third pilates hour after having the Kale macrobiotic Juice all while checking on whatever snobby new fake health trend to start rustling up, there is simply no time!

    • Ag says:

      time is for peasants.

    • sam says:

Truth. I think she constantly obsesses over her body and looks and the extreme dieting is aging her. I look at jlo, Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchette’s skin and wonder why they look so much younger when they’re older.

      • snowflake says:

because they have a higher body fat. when i was working out a lot, i looked a lot older, because i lost fat in my face too. now i’m heavier and i look younger. plus i don’t think gwyneth has any filler in her face, i think the others do and angelina jolie does too. you can’t tell if it’s subtle. i started looking gaunt in my face when i was running a lot. i tried filler and i worried someone would notice but all i got was compliments on how good my skin looked. but now that i’ve gained weight, it went back to my face being fuller even though the fillers worn off

      • ElleV says:

Probably a mix of good genes, and in the case of Julianne and Cate, vampiric aversion to sunlight.

      • Alex says:

They look younger because they partake in creamy chicken cup-a-soup.

      • ElleV says:

@Alex … THAT’S IT!!! It’s the preservatives in the soup! Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

  3. FingerBinger says:

I don’t see Marilyn Monroe ,but she looks pretty here.

    • Brionne says:

I agree. Her hair looks healthier here and the style softens her but Marilyn she is not.

    • Angie says:

I saw the pic for the article and clicked on it – all ready to comment about how good she looks. Then I read she’s supposed to be Marilyn Monroe?
      WTF?
      Not even close Max Factor!

    • Fue McCormick says:

When I saw the photo, I thought: Grace Kelly. I’ve never liked GP’s look, but I do think in the top photo she looks gorgeous. (But I’m really into 50’s styling right now.)

      • Sullivan says:

Yes, she looks like Grace Kelly. She should stick with this look because it’s gorgeous on her.

    • maria says:

I see Jennifer Lawrence’s hair style from a while ago

  4. K says:

It pains me to say this, but she is really funny and self-deprecating in the latest Web Therapy season. Ouch that hurt.

  5. Stephanie says:

Why is she/others trying to make her into some kind of beauty icon? She is ugly. I know that’s mean but she is!

    • Rachel says:

I wouldn’t say she’s ugly, but I do think she can be quite plain.

    • MrsB says:

That’s pretty harsh – I think she’s actually very pretty naturally. She looks gorgeous in these pictures.

      • Stephanie says:

Definitely harsher than I should ever speak about someone but I just don’t see the attraction. In the picture she looks nice. Not great. Just nice. That’s with a boat load of make-up and Photoshop.

    • Twinkle says:

The first time I ever saw her in Jefferson in Paris, one of her first movie role, I thought she looked inbred. I still think she look inbred.

    • Lady D says:

i think her looks are plain too. I’ve never understood the attraction in her.

    • Adrien says:

      I think she’s attractive.

  6. Kiddo (aka dark underbelly) says:

Blah blah blah…anyway, she doesn’t look like Marilyn, but she looks gorgeous with that hairstyle.
    So much better.

  7. Ag says:

    why you lie, goop?

  8. D says:

Saying “I don’t tend to wear much make-up ” while doing an ad campaign for Max Factor lol

  9. BengalCat2000 says:

I would rather die than hear another one of her “I’d rather die than…..” This woman stupifys me with her conscious cluelessness.

  10. Pandy says:

Yes, she should be posed as one of Hitchcock’s ice queen blondes. And I agree about make up – there are lots of bare faced pix available of her. But I don’t buy that she’s low maintenance. How are you low maintenance with all of the holistic treatments she gets? And if she’s not into make up etc. (and notice she doesn’t say she brushes her teeth and puts on moisturizer?), then why would I buy into your beauty line? She looks sun baked to me, so no thanks, stuff your advice up your irrigated colon lol.

    • jen2 says:

She does look more like Tippi Hedren (sp?) than Monroe, but she does look attractive and the hair style does complement her. In comparing the photo shopped ad and the real thing, they also warmed her up a bit since in real life, she looks hard as a rock. But when doing advertising for a make-up company, saying you don’t use much is rather counter-productive I would say.

And her idea of low maintenance may not be what the everyday person’s definition is, just like her feeling her life is harder than the average working mother’s!!

  11. Anoneemouse says:

I believe her. She has no time left after studying the labels on all “non-macrobiotic” foods and finding overpriced unneeded crap for her website.

  12. Size Does Matter says:

Putting “Gwyneth Paltrow” and “low maintenance” together in a headline must have caused a kitten to die somewhere.

  13. alexc says:

Of course she’s not studying her face, making sure her ass stays 21 takes up all of her time.

  14. Jax says:

I think she looks beautiful here. For once. I’ve never understood any of the hype over her and thought she is one of the plainest women in Hollywood. I couldn’t believe it when one of the mags last year claimed she was the most beautiful women in the WORLD. According to whom? But I will admit she looks very pretty here. It definitely ought to show her that she would be a lot more attractive if she got rid of the stick-straight dried out looking hair style. This softer look is very pleasing.

    • H says:

Nobody needs new hair more than Gwyneth needs new hair. She would look SO much younger and prettier if she didn’t do flat-iron-center-part-every-day.

  15. lower-case deb says:

no comment on Goop. but, why always Marilyn, though?

there’s a whole raft of Olde Hollywoode, but it’s always Marilyn that people circle back to. leave my girl alooooneee!

  16. The Original G says:

Why does anyone keep asking this woman questions?

  17. minx says:

Her mother is an actress, her father was a TV producer whose most notable show was “The White Shadow” for god’s sake.

GP isn’t particularly well educated; from what I can see she went to college in Santa Barbara and dropped out.

I guess my question is, why does she seem to think she’s better than everyone else? Based on what?

    • Tiffany says:

I thought that her Mother is old, blue blood money. There have been stories about Blythe that she is GOOP times 10. So it has to come from somewhere.

      • minx says:

I looked it up and Blythe has grandparents from Germany and a great grandparent from Barbados, a “White Barbadian”. So her background seems a mix like everyone else’s. Blythe’s father was a banker, though, and she grew up in Philadelphia, so maybe she was wealthy and brought up to think she was better than everyone else.

  18. snowflake says:

she is not low-maintenance. you can be be high-maintenance and not wear much makeup. i bet she obsesses over every single ingredient in everything she eats and will work out every day for two hours, no matter what! i get a very rigid vibe off of her, like she will not deviate from her routine. she might not be high maintenance in regards to makeup but I bet she is when it comes to eating all organic, etc and working out

    • Lizzy1013 says:

I totally agree! She might not be obsessing over every pore, but she is obsessing over every ounce! She probably has those body fat calipers in her bathroom and every morning she repeats to her self “if you can pinch an inch….”

  19. Mel M says:

Well when someone already thinks they are perfect why would they worry about their face. She is always out without makeup, even the picture on the cover of her cook book looks like she has zero makeup on or even styled her hair at all. I just think she thinks she’s gorgeous.

  20. A fair affair says:

Not a fan. To be fair, she did attend the Spence school in NY for primary education, so I don’t think she is completely ignorant. A crashing bore, yes !

    • annaloo. says:

I know two girls who went to Spence the same time as her. Separately, according to them both, she wasn’t that strong of an academic. I’m inclined to believe it bc she needed Michael Douglas to make a friendly call to get her in at USC bc her grades didn’t cut it.

      And we’re both not fans!

  21. Ginger says:

I love the pin up style on GOOP in this image but please Max Factor…don’t even try to pass this off as Marilyn Monroe…come on now!

  22. kri says:

She doesn’t have to study her face-she has people she pays to do that. It’s true, she doesn’t spackle on the makeup-but this is the same woman who said her ass looks like a 22-yr. old stripper. She cares SO much about her appearance. KK has the ass of lies, and GOOP has the mouth of lies.

  23. Ciria says:

I think this is probably true since she never seems overly made-up with makeup/hair.

  24. serena says:

She is in no way similar to Monroe or Grace Kelly, but I have to say she looks good in the above photo. It’s nice seeing her with a different hairstyle.

    • Birdix says:

in general she looks like she’s aiming for Christy Brinkley– which would make sense given her era and growing up in LA.

    • Chris2 says:

Zackly……that poker-straight yellow barnet she clings to is ghastly, and she looks pretty good here with this style.
I reckon she *should* scrutinise her face more, and rescue it from whatever she does (too frequent acid peels and no oil replacement??) that makes it so thirsty-looking and sore, to my eyes. Ouch.

  25. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

Excellent hair. Kate Middleton: take note.

  26. gooner says:

    Low-maintenance?

Anyone else immediately think of that part in When Harry Met Sally where Harry says to Sally: “You’re the worst kind. You’re high-maintenance, but you think you’re low-maintenance.”

That’s how I imagine Goop is in real life. Except waaaaay snobbier than Sally.

  27. AntiSocialButterfly says:

Pick any drunken Leann Rimes selfie and you will see that these women’s expressions match quite similarly. Thirsty, thirsty, thirsty.

  28. Artimis says:

Oh Gwynnie, do f**k off. Please.

  29. Jayna says:

Gwyneth is one of the few that actually has lines and does wear little makeup off work and looks very casual when out and about, not really fussy about herself. So I do think she is low maintenance in that regard. Not someone like Jennifer Lopez who is always put together when out and about.

And I don’t see any work on her face. She has no big plumped up lips, no new big fat cheeks. She has lines around her eyes and smile lines. I’ve seen forehead lines in certain photos when she’s out and about. I think she’s one of the few that is comfortable that way. She would actually look better if she put a few pounds back on and her face would look younger, but Gwyneth is more obsessed about her body, so that won’t happy. And I don’t thnk she’s into trying to freeze and plump up her face with injectibles.

    • Chris2 says:

      Very fair point Jayna
She hasn’t gone all batshit at the onset of lines, and as you say, the majority do. And she does do the sans fard a lot, so that does speak up for her really, in her milieu..
I just want to cover her face in very rich oily moisturiser every time I see her, but that’s about comfort, not anti-ageing!

    • Maggi says:

Thank you for being the voice of sanity. I clicked on the Jennifer Aniston magazine cover and was frightened by the amount of Botox and fillers happening there–Jennifer’s face looks catlike and uncomfortably stretched. Compared to the rest of Hollywood, Gwyneth really does seem less plastic.

  30. Itsnotthatserious says:

How can she scrutinize her face when it is so far up her ass?

  31. anne_000 says:

Yeah, those photos of her imitating other women are such failures. She’s too egotistical in front of the camera to stop pushing her own self through.

  32. Mon says:

Dramatic much? Teenagers can get away with this “I’d die if…” And since when is she low maintenance? Since her ex started dating JL? She’s so full of bs.

  33. annaloo. says:

So says the spokesbitch for Restorsea!! That company got its money worth with her! Hahaha!

    • poppy says:

has she ever actually earned an endorsement check? i can’t think of one product or company she’s endorsed that even came close to getting their money’s worth our of her. wasted money.
how she continues to get any deal is mind boggling. her agent must be in good and deep with the gay mafia. or the unicorn horn up her butt must have magical powers. makes no sense.
the comments here are mostly about how great her hair looks! yeah, not really going to move their products. fail.

  34. Longhorn says:

Her Max Factor ads are horrid. I almost laughed out loud when I saw her version of Marilyn Monroe. Max F needs to find a new actress for their campaign because Goop doesn’t look her best with all that makeup. I think she looks better fresh faced.

  35. Adrien says:

That headline photo, Gwyneth Paltrow looks very much like Gwyneth Paltrow.

  36. poppy says:

jeebus. she’s had plenty of work done so she should be almost satisfied.
she’s read one too many frances mcdormand interviews…
    or is she totally trolling?

  37. dorothy says:

Haven’t commented for while but really???!!!!! She is TOO ridiculous! Her insulting remarks to others aside (and there are a vast range of those over the years) this is the MOST untrue phony remark about herself since she said she “thought she was handling turning 40 really really well”. I mean, really? She LIVES inside the mirror 🙂 Good news is Chris and Alexa seem to be working out again, which is the real issue to her, not the JLAW deal. So Gwyneth, hush up already! And, no clue about what JLAW is REALLY like (heard A LOT of rumours but can’t say for sure…) BUT Chris is not with either of those two. He lost Natalie years ago, and he is not about to lose Alexa now if he can help it. Man, I feel for those kids though, wow. I was working with some Foster Kids the other day and they actually were day dreaming about having famous parents and all….So sad all the way around. Of course the Foster Children in general have it worse but I really really feel for these celeb kids too. Can you imagine their days at school? The questions, teasing. on top of all else? Horrible. May be, IMO, time the adults stepped up and just dealt with this publicly – as now just all falling to their kids to try to answer. But by all accounts Chris is a good Dad so hope he is/will be handling it as he knows his kids better than anyone and gets more time scheduling control and decision making with them that he is working towards. Just my opinioin but think he needs out of LA too, he is from all I’ve heard, miserable again from GP and her PR, then letting JLAW rumors fly around untrue. Think his children and Alexa are all that are keeping some of his soul intact. My best to him and the children! And note to Gwyniee: with all the time you DO spend in front of the mirror maybe practice keeping your mouth shut while looking into it : -) Bye guys hope you and yours are well.

    • JenniferJustice says:

Not being able to just have a friend over casually or go to their house casually? Not having Mom and Dad volunteer at class holiday parties or going to the local highschool football games?

I’m telling you, I would give my right arm before I’d ever let my kid be involved in show biz or grow up as a Hollywood kid. The knocks by far out-weight the priveleges.

  38. Dany says:

She should cut her hair! Looks so much better

  39. Annie says:

I believe she’s confident about aging because she actually looks better now than when she was younger. In the Brad Pitt years I thought she was very plain, but she’s aged quite well, I’ll give her that.

  40. JenniferJustice says:

A person’s being high or low maintenance is not measured by how often they stare at their face. Many people are considered high-maintenance who aren’t even concerned with their face – ahem *coughs* you know like people who are addicted to colonics, starving themselves, numerous plastic surgeries, purging, bleaching, Good Lord!

Man, she really is amusing, this one.

  41. TOPgirl says:

Goop just wants to feel young like any women would want. Sad thing about reality is that women are thought of as “old” after a certain age. Whereas men (as old as 50) can keep dating, marry, and pop out babies with younger and younger women no matter how old they are.
