Sienna Miller in Miu Miu at the Globes: too revealing or not bad?

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller celebrated her grand return to Hollywood by wearing a questionable dress to last night’s Golden Globes. Is this a bit much? Sienna donned MiuMiu with a huge order of double-sided tape. The v-neck plunged all the way to her waist, and sheer side panels barely preserved her modesty. Perhaps I’m being old fashioned. The flowery fabric and embellishments around the v-neck aimed for bohemian glamour, but I don’t know, you guys. This doesn’t feel like a dress someone wears when they’re going for the serious actress vibe.

With that said, Sienna does look gorgeous. Her face looks different than usual, but I think she’s lost a little weight lately, which would explain it. If the dress reached all the way to the floor, this gown may have seemed glamorous instead of like a teenager playing dress up in Jimmy Choos. Those Tiffany jewels were luscious.

Katie Holmes presented last night. Girlfriend flubbed Matt Bomer’s name (she called him “Matt Bomber”). She wore Marchesa, of course. This isn’t a terrible dress by Marchesa standards, and Katie was playing it pretty safe — even though eggplant is rarely a good color for the red carpet. The dress was simple and strapless with a bit of a train. I think she should have worn her hair loose and wavy, but her smoky makeup looked good.

Matthew McConaughey (nominated for True Detective) showed off his new scruff, which is for a Civil War-era role. Time is a flat circle, etc. Matty dressed it up in an aubergine three-piece tux by Dolce & Gabbana. Camila Alves is so beautiful, but I feel like she takes great care to never upstage Matthew on the red carpet. She wore a Monique Lhullier strapless column gown in pale pink. This was a boring dress, and the big hair didn’t help much.

Kristen Wiig went for the curtains look in a white Delphine Manivet number. The bottom half of this dress held some promise, but the peasant-y top was simply confusing. She does have lovely shoulders, no? This was not the correct dress to show them off. Overall, this dress was sloppy, but I’m digging funky hair and makeup. And she’s always funnier than her co-presenter, Bill Hader.

I want to like Kristen Wiig’s dress…maybe if the fabric wasn’t so curtain-y.

    • Grace says:

Me too. It’s kind of funky but maybe venturing a little too much in the 80’s territory?. Glad she didn’t wear feathered hair.

  2. Carrie says:

I LOVE this. I will admit she looks a little thin though.

    • someonestolemyname says:

Yes, she looks great, but just a tad thin.

All the ladies look great. Katie Holmes looks great,

  3. mia girl says:

@Bedhead – Got to respectfully disagree that Wigg is always funnier than Hader.

PS I have mad Hader love.

    • SpookySpooks says:

Major Hader love from me too.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

I have a love-Hader relationship with Bill and I want to have two or three dozen of his babies. Kristin DOES have pretty shoulders, yes. But she needs to get a better stylist. And she needs to stay away from my Bill.

    • Sarah says:

I thought their whole bit fell flat last night. Both of them.

    • Peppa says:

Wiig was the worst on SNL. THE WORST. Hader is hilarious. The bit from last night fell flat, but in no universe is Kristen Wiig funnier than Bill Hader (Bridesmaids was one movie!)

    • Bridget says:

      WORD

  4. Renee says:

I think that Kristen Wiig looks the worst of everyone in this post, including Matthew M. I think that Katie Holmes looks conservative, but beautiful, and I never say that last word about her.

  5. Janet says:

I love Holmes’ dress and that eggplant color is gorgeous.

Have you guys forgotten about Viola Davis? She definitely won the red carpet last night.

  6. clara says:

It’s not really Sienna’s return to Hollywood, is it? She was at the Globes last year as well when she was actually nominated.

I thought Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader’s bit was painfully unfunny.

  7. Dani2 says:

I LOVE Sienna’s hair and I don’t hate the dress at all, it’s very her.

Katie looks good, a little boring though.

    • SamiHami says:

Ugh, Sienna’s hair looks terrible…like she forgot to comb it that morning. Whatever happened to celebrities trying to look glamorous? That messy look might be okay with jeans and a t shirt, but not with a gown for an award show.

      • Dani2 says:

Different strokes 🙂 I love when people do interesting things with bobs. She’s giving me hair inspiration here.

    • whatever says:

I love Sienna’s look. Great, interesting, flattering dress, hair and makeup, though I think she should’ve opted for a darker lip. Would’ve made the whole look pop.

I think the dress is gorgeous and one of the most interesting of the evening. So many boring ball gowns or trashy tight gowns, per usual. And that hair? It’s the hair of the season and the length, waves, great highlights and playful flip at the ends looks amazing. Sienna’s look was so un-boring, except for the pale lip and oh yeah, bad shoes. Different shoes would’ve vastly upped her style.

I also LOVE Kristen Wiig’s look. Great hair and make-up and a really interesting, funky dress. Definitely not a boring or too try hard sexy gown (I’m side-eyeing you, Kate Hudson). The photo selected here isn’t that great – Lainey and US have better ones. I’d rather see something flowy and 70s than yet another boring ballgown.

But I agree on Katie Holmes – poor choice of hairstyle and dress colour, and a boring cut with a train. And the material? Too crinkly. Make-up is good though. She is so white rice to me though. And still dead in the eyes even post-Xenu.

    • Lin says:

Yes! I actually have the same haircut with Sienna for the last 3 years, and I just can’t change it. I’m too attached to it. She looks beautiful and I find the dress sexy in a classy way.
As for Katie Holmes… I wonder how many horses lost their tails for that hair to happen.

  8. Kiddo says:

Are we sure this is Sienna Miller? I have no idea what she looks like anymore. I”m getting Kelly Rippa in these photos.

  9. steffie says:

    I like it a lot.
I feel like old-school sienna is back!

    • Josephine says:

I like it too. It’s not a lot of fabric on top, but she’s flat enough not to look tacky. Still, a little more material would have been better, i think. Maybe a sheer overlay? The bottom is gorgeous.

  10. Betti says:

Love Sienna’s hair but when i first looked at the photo’s i though she’d had work done on her face – doesn’t look like her.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

The top and bottom of Sienna’s dress didn’t belong together. The bottom was far too heavy for all that stuff that was happening on top. Just too much.

  12. Grace says:

Loved Katie Holmes entire look. And eggplant looks terrific on her. Really liked Sienna’s dress but had a problem with her hair. Not sure what was going on there. Its like toussled Grace Kelly hair. Not sure if it worked. Matt’s wife is gorgeous but not feeling the blonde streaks

    • Sarah says:

One of the best jokes of the night as Ricky Gervais talking about what bad things all the celebrities had to do to get in the room, keep their position, etc. “And I’m not even going to mention Katie Holmes!”

      ROFL!

  13. serena says:

I freaking love Katie Holmes outfit and whole look! She looks stunning!

  14. Dante says:

Sierra’s dress is no good, for anyone really. The rest of her looked fine, her hair has never looked better.

Katie looks great in that color and it was fine once it was off the red carpet. Don’t care for the styling of her stunt hair.

Matt looks okay but I am ready to see him with less facial hair, it just isn’t a good look for him. Camilla always bores me. The hair is not flattering and neither is the color. No one that pretty should be so blah.

    • Trashaddict says:

The waist line is not high enough, she is high-waisted. Also, she is really not aging well. Wrinkles don’t matter but looking fatigued and washed out does.

  15. vauvert says:

Kristen, my mom wants to know why you took her damask table cloth and turned it into a dress. Seriously, love her but that dress, ugh.
Katie Holmes always bores me to tears. Seriously, she messed up Matt’s name? Criminal! Her hair looks horrible like that.
But let’s talk Sienna (rubbing hands with glee). I will never understand why so many guys went gaga over her, maybe it doesn’t communicate well on a screen, but talk about try hard! And the head pose – she should give it up. (I mentioned in another post, that head down and slightly forward thing, hate it!) that dress could have been so stunning, if the waist fitted properly, the v- neck were modest and the sides were fabric instead of mesh or whatever. If she is on a mission to reinvent herself she needs to keep working at it.

  16. scout says:

Sienna Miller looks gauntly, but dress is not so bad. Love the color of Eggplant on Katie. The other two, not loving that much, just ok.

  17. It is what it is says:

If this is too revealing than Kate Hudson should be considered X rated

  18. Joy says:

Marchesa has a bridesmaids line? What is it with the bridesmaids looks?

  19. Gia says:

    Katie Holmes, lol.

Siena is my girl crush. She always looks drop dead gorge!

  20. QQ says:

I said it on twitter but will repeat here: Is a Shame Kristen Wiig Insists on Dressing like a Lesser Sack Olsen

Sienna’s dress Embroidery was so pretty … for such a Fug Dress .. Like is a shame they spent all that time in the fabric and then went and cut it that way

    • poppy says:

ita. what could have been a lovely dress was spoilt by the cut of the top. too many ribs beneath the flaps.

  21. Judyk says:

I gasped at how GORGEOUS Sienna was last night…best look of the night IMO. Her body is made for a v-cut to the waist…she’s exquisite.

  22. Katie says:

All of these are bad. I understand Camilla trying not to upstage mTthew but this time just made herself dowdy. Kristen Wiig’s dress is just awful! Katie Holmes is perpetually boring in her red cArpet choices.

  23. Nics says:

I feel like I saw too much orange skin last night. It was everywhere, I like Kristen well enough but even she was orange. For me it all distracted from the dresses and hair. meh.
Plus she is just so tiny, there were a few ladies that looked that way too, really could use adding a couple pounds. Cheekbones shouldn’t look sharp and your clavicle shouldn’t be able to cut glass. But that’s just my thinking.

  24. lucy2 says:

I like Katie’s look a lot. The color is great on her, and I like the sleek hair with it (her hair looked so healthy on TV!). I just wish someone could have steamed the wrinkles out for her before she did photos.
I don’t care for Sienna’s. Too much going on and too revealing.
Kristin Wiig could look amazing, but always seems to choose stuff that Keira Knightly probably turned down.

  25. Lama Bean says:

There is absolutely nothing about Camilla’s look that I like. The color and style of the dress, color and style of her hair, etc etc. nothing.

  26. Marianne says:

I liked Katie Holmes hair. And that’s all I got to say about this post.

  27. danielle says:

I liked kristen Whigs dress. I wouldve found Katie Holmes look boring, except for the offensively fake ponytail.

  28. daughterofjean says:

Sienna was best of the night for me. Absolutely beautiful!

  29. kri says:

Sienna’s gown could have been IT for me, except that netting on the sides-NO ICE SKATERS ALLOWED, B*TCH! Sorry, but when I fashion rant, I go all Kanye. That fabric and beading is lovely. It could have been so great. Sad. The color on Katie Holmes looked good, but please do not buy your hair off of an outside table in China Town, dammit.

  30. Greek Chic says:

Sienna is so pretty, it gets on my nerves! I like her dress too. Her hair is amazing,I wish I had her cheekbones To pull that hairstyle off.
Katie Holmes also looks pretty..run away from Tom Cruise was the best decision. She looks young and fresh again.
Camilla Alves looks great (aside from her hair) and I like this shade of pink on her.

    • spaniard says:

I agree, the 3 of them looked great. Eggplant is one of my favourite colours, it looks great on us brunnettes, and I find Camilla Alves gorgeous even with that weird hairstyle.

  31. jenni12 says:

I kind of like Kristin’s look- off the shoulder and pretty. Katie Holmes looks classic, which I don’t always think. Sienna Miller generally has decent taste, but that dress is a disaster. The neckline is not flattering or well fitted, and the material is kind of flouncy and needed a simpler style than what was done with it.

  32. Jo says:

Sienna is looking quite like Chelsea Handler, which is never a good look.

  33. Corrie says:

Thought Sienna looked very cute and only like Sienna. Dress wouldn’t or couldn’t work on anyone else. That’s for sure.

  34. Camille (The Original) says:

I liked Sienna’s dress (not loved, but liked) and think she looked pretty.

LOVE Kristin Wiig, but I don’t care for her dress.

Tina, Amy and Kristin need to be Hollywoods go-to girls for rom-coms/funny films. They are brilliant, talented and pretty women. Love that trio.
