Blake Lively makes her first postpartum outing during NYFW: lovely?

Last night, Blake Lively made her first public appearance since giving birth. She only gave birth in early January, and look… she’s already lost all the baby weight. Not that she even gained that much, you know. Out of all the ladies who were pregnant over the past year, I kind of think Blake had the prettiest and most glowing pregnancy. Anyway, she looked pretty last night at the Gabriela Cadena fashion show during New York Fashion Week. She came out to the event with her mom. I wonder if Ryan was with the baby?

As we discussed yesterday, the rumor going around is that Blake and Ryan named their daughter James. JAMES. I think that’s probably the case – the baby name reveal came before a flurry of activity for Blake, you know? That’s her M.O. She made sure people heard the name, then she steps out for her first postpartum appearance in the same news cycle. And just by the way, another trailer for her film, The Age of Adeline, was just released too.

By the way, a lot of people have been mocking Blake’s ode to the “blues” for Valentine’s Day on her Preserve site. She declares that “pink is out this year—blue is in” and she name-checks Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Another Alluring Age of Artisanal Antebellum Alliteration it is. You can read’s Blake stupid Preserve V-Day thing here.

    She looks fat.

JUST KIDDING. She looks great. I hate myself for loving Blake Philodendron Lively.

    • Jegede says:

LOL @ Philodenron. Agreed but she looks tired too.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Lol, I like her, too.

    • kennedy says:

She does look great. Her movie looks terrible though. Who is giving this girl lead roles?

Blake marrying Ryan Reynolds is like the perfect union of two bland and minimally talented people. I’ll throw Ryan a bone and say that he does have excellent comic timing but he is not a leading man. His recent career resurgence attempt is really sad – his last two films, The Voices and The Woman in Gold, are getting some pretty terrible reviews. I really wish he would try to go the supporting actor route for a while and find some material that works. I know some of it is just the luck of the draw (in theory, The Voices is a pretty cool concept but the execution is apparently horrible) but man does he have terrible luck picking quality projects.

      • mimif says:

I’ve never even seen either one of them in a movie or TV, I just like her because she seems like she’s having fun. I grow weary of the ones who take themselves so seriously…

      • Kiddo says:

        Try a little tenderness.

      • Jegede says:

        @kennedy –
Erm.. Ryan has actually been getting great reviews for The Voices. And it’s an alternative movie with limited release so it’s not meant to be a blockbuster.

And his Sundance movie Mississippi Grind got great response.

But people have different definitions of what entails a ‘quality project’.

      • kennedy says:

@jegede – True – different opinions of what makes a quality project.

Voices is very mixed on metacritic. http://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-voices

I’m not talking about the box office potential – I’m all about the smaller film with limited release/platform release.

      • Josefa says:

The Voices has gotten pretty good reviews – Ryan’s performance in particular is getting a lot of praise. And as Jegede pointed out, it’s an indie, so nobody is really expecting it to make much money.

      • Prince Valiant says:

No, they are not. The reviews of the Voices are far from terrible. Check Rotten Tomatoes. At the moment the score is better than the one for American Sniper. The film if one of the few original, fascinating films around at the moment. It won the prize of the jury for best film and the prize of the audience in two film festivals in France. But I am partial to him, and to Marjane Satrapi for that matter. I find her a genial film director with a great future, and I cannot see anyone else being able to pull off the role of Jerry in The Voices as perfectly as he did. But I concede that the film has a European flair that American viewers might find difficult to grasp. The film industry is a jungle. I have seem splendid little films and really good actors being shot down by some critics because they might be successfully competing with another film they support coming out at the same time or with the flavour-of-the-month star. As for the Woman in Gold, I am sure it will make quite some money.

      • kennedy says:

I’m not sure where these comments of “making money” are in response to – I never said anything about the box office potential. The Voices is getting mixed reviews – probably shouldn’t have said terrible, let me amend that. RT is not a good indicator as a whole because it’s not scored on the same scale as metacritic which actually uses #’s versus just fresh vs. rotten. 57 is middling.

      • LNG says:

Rotten Tomatoes uses numbers – it is rated 75% “fresh” but has an average score of 6.9/10 by 48 critics.

      • Dolce crema says:

Mimif Gossip girl is a pretty great show! I watched it as it came out and about a year later again on netflix. The second time I noticed the jokes more and it’s overall a smart show.

    • Lorina says:

      ‘She looks fat.’ – Perfect. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Xtina says:

Am I the only one who thinks she doesn’t look good here? Why does she keep squeeeezing herself into such tight dresses during this whole process. Something that fits and she’ll look a hell of a lot less uptight and uncomfortable.

    • Bizzle says:

Yes, I agree. She comes across as too try-hard. Just not a fan.

    • LadyMTL says:

I agree, I don’t like this dress on her at all. It’s almost like she’s wearing one size too small. I mean, she looks fantastic for a woman who just had a baby but yeah, I’m not loving this look.

    • Pri says:

No, you are not alone. I feel uncomfortable just looking at her!

    • Esmom says:

Agreed, she could have worn something a bit more forgiving and it would have looked way less try hard. And probably felt much more comfortable!

I don’t think the name James is the worst for a baby girl, it’s definitely a trend to use boys’ names for girls. And she could always go by Jamie, which is cute for a boy or girl.

    • minx says:

I agree. I just don’t get her so-called appeal at all. She had rhinoplasty and good dental work, but she’s still so bland and not a good actress.

      • Courtney says:

Her plastic surgery was worth every penny. Her boobs can look a little wonky sometimes though.

    • Twinkle says:

I can’t stand her. My very good friend was part of the crew of Gossip Girls and the stories he told about her entitled and rude she was. She had no qualms about holding up filming for hours, and wasting time and money, by staying in her trailer. I also hate her poses on the red carpet. She looks like a stupid Barbie with the contrived posing.

      • Lee says:

        @Twinkle

Yep, the way she posing is annoying, always with her mouth opened…..
Not surprised about what your friend said, there have been several rumors for years about her rude attitude on GG set…!

      • Minime says:

My friend was also on the crew of GG and she told me the exact same thing. Blake was insufferable, rude, entitled and unprofessional. She even tried to get my friend fired because she stood up to her one time she was delaying filming for hours!

      • Lee says:

        @Minime
Wow…sounds like a real b***h….I heard she only talks to ‘important’ people and that even Harrison Ford, on the set of Age of Adaline, couldnt stand her…!

      • JenniferJustice says:

Oh, that’s it. If Harrison doesn’t like her, I don’t like her.

On another note, really? An optical illusion dress? really? There isn’t a word for the level of intention here. For cripe’s sake, she just had a baby. Own it and stop false advertising.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I don’t think she looks good at all. Not a fan of the dress, but her hair looks just awful.

  3. Reece says:

Meh. I like the dress. She needs to clip her ends or dump the extensions.

    • Mel M says:

Agreed, the first thing I noticed was the hair, she needs a trim or a brush.

      • k says:

oh gods! i read your comment as “she needs a trim or a bush” lolololololol…
she looks uncomfortable and unsure, to my untrained eye.

  4. Eileen says:

I couldn’t even focus on the clothing her hair distracted me so much-she looks like she could use a good haircut that removes about four inches off the length it looks so flat and split ended as is

    • Jegede says:

I think the hair is shedding post pregnancy.

    • GoOnGirl says:

Ellen, I have to agree with you. The first thing I noticed was the hair. She looks like she needs a good brush. She also looks like she’s squeezed into this dress. I’ve seen her look way, way better. But kudos after having a baby in January.

  5. Loopy says:

I swear looks will get you far, Blake’s attacking is by far one of the worst I have seen, how does she manage to get movies ??? CB mentioned in a previous post that she makes Beyoncé look an academy award winning actress .

  6. Kiddo says:

That is one effortlessly fug dress.

    #cheapzipper

  7. FurballFriend says:

That dress is doing her no favors; she is squeezed into it and it either showcases a pooch (to be expected; she just gave birth) or gives the illusion of one. She also needs a hair trim and PLEASE do something about those roots. It’s sad because she probably spent wads of cash for this look.

    • Lee says:

She also needs to learn to pose with her mouth closed…

    • Magnolia says:

Exactly! It looks like she bought it pre-birth and told herself that she’d have NO problem fitting into it 4 weeks post baby. Haha — She was wrong. And the black and white pattern is a very good way to disguise all that baby weight. If she had only bought 2 sizes bigger this would be a great outfit.

  8. GingerCrunch says:

Ooooh, look! Her hair is all edgy and piece-y to go with her outfit! Wow! How do they come up with this stuff?

  9. lily says:

    First pic Traumatized

    Second pic Tired

    Third Resigned

  10. Kaye says:

I think the color blocking of the dress makes her look deformed.

  11. taterho says:

I’m here for Ellen Burstyn in that trailer.

  12. JB says:

These photos make me sad. She looks limp and exhausted, which is totally normal for a brand new mom (even if she does have a nanny or night nurse or whatever, which I think her husband has claimed they don’t) so I don’t even want to criticize her for it. But she also looks like she is trying to prove something in that super tight dress and all that makeup. There is such intense pressure on moms – especially celebrity ones – to spring back and look amazing immediately after having a baby. I admit that after having my two daughters I was desperate for a compliment. If someone didn’t tell me, “You don’t even look like you had a baby!” I was crushed. I felt like a complete failure, which was so silly. It’s not impossible to look great or have a glow or lose the weight, but it shouldn’t feel like a requirement.

  13. llala says:

She’s rich, under 30, and has nothing to do all day but exercise. Other people are taking care of her kid for her. What’s the big deal about her losing weight or looking good? That’s all she has ever done anyway. It’s business as usual.

  14. Jess says:

I think she looks great, but only because we can see her post baby belly! I don’t know if she meant to do this or not but it’s very noticeable, and it’s not bad to display the after baby deflated tummy but we don’t see many celebs do it, they hide out until they have a 6 pack. I don’t like the dress itself, not sure if I’m making any sense, lol.

  15. aang says:

she has an amazing body but the dress is terrible

  16. Miran says:

I like her dress, it does highlight the fact that her tummy is still a little lumpy but I actually appreciate that.

  17. minxx says:

She looks like she’d rather be at home with the baby, with her hair in a bun and wearing fuzzy slippers, but they made her squeeze into this awful, trashy looking dress and she didn’t even have time to get her hair washed. She looks exhausted, poor thing.

    • Lee says:

I dont think anyone forced her to attend the fashion show…so she could have stayed home if she wanted!

  18. scout says:

She still has some baby bump left around the mid section but that’s expected to last few more weeks and she looks great for a new mommy. Dress is okay, bit tight.
Should we use pickle juice to cleanse and preserve our Vs now? Why don’t they just shut up about it for Pete’s sake.

  19. Greek Chic says:

I’m not crazy about the dress but I like the coat.I think her hair ruin the whole look here.I like the color but they are so flat.
I like Blake, she is pretty and fun.

  20. daughter of jean says:

The dress is doing her no favours.

  21. MindlessContemplations says:

What gets me is that celeb new moms seem so dead set on fitting back into the size 2 they were before pregancy when a size 6 would be far more flattering on their transitional figure and many normal people are size 6 and look fantastic.

  22. PS says:

Rachel Green thought about “James, but only if it’s a girl” first

  23. Ana says:

Oooh this movie looks amazing! I’m so going to watch it! 😀

  24. Kayla says:

Can we talk more about Michiel Huisman? Yummmm

  25. I Choose Me says:

I like her but man that outfit is skin tight. Can she even sit down in that dress? Ah but then there are the zippers that makes it easier to get on and off.

  26. Jayna says:

Her baby is a month and a half old. I think she looks amazing to look like this after such little time. A little tired, like new moms are, but looking great. It’s hard at that stage to put on an outfit for an event and feel your best, especially when you are up at night breastfeeding and tired, brain fog, and just not that long after giving birth, six weeks..

    • Prince Valiant says:

I am happy to see that there are kind people around. Let me compliment you for your common sense, the most noble form of intelligence.

    • Wren33 says:

I agree. She doesn’t look her best, but she still looks 5 times better than I ever have, and 100 times better than I did a month after giving birth.

  27. Anny says:

Can’t help but like her. She is really beautiful. Also it makes me nostalgic – used to watch Gossip girl and she was fun in first season.
Like the dress and hair but the zipper things are a bit….weird fitting.
