Riccardo Tisci ‘got killed’ in the fashion industry when he befriended Kimye

FFN_ScottJ_Stars_GGFF_021815_51656658

I’ve got a hodge-podge of Kimye news for you guys. Aren’t you the lucky ones? Let’s start with Kanye West. Kanye has been attending lots of NYFW shows this week, obviously. He was 15 minutes late arriving to the Jeremy Scott show, and according to Us Weekly, “He was immediately flanked by photographers and while he posed for cameras, the rapper refused to smile. His demeanor changed, however, during the runway show, when the observer tells Us he flashed a big grin at the designs.” Also attending the Jeremy Scott show? New York Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis. You might recognize her from her appearances on Project Runway. The NY Post asked Mallis what she thought of Kanye entering the New York Fashion Week world as a designer and her reply is… in line with Kelly Cutrone.

The one-and-only creator of Fashion Week, Fern Mallis, was at Wednesday’s Jeremy Scott show, along with the ubiquitous Kanye West, who sported a maroon hoodie and two bodyguards who blocked the hoi polloi from his greatness. While fans swarmed the singer/wannabe fashion designer, Mallis remained unimpressed.

“I’m kind of over Kanye,” she said. “I mean, I’m not a fan of his music, and the attitude and the agenda is not my style.”

[From the NY Post]

I find it interesting that some big-name people in the New York fashion world are publicly sniffing about Kanye. I tend to think the reaction to Kanye in the Paris fashion world is a bit different. Kanye might be seen as more of a circus act, and God knows, the Paris designers probably love shilling their product to oblivious Americans. Speaking of, Kanye’s BFF Riccardo Tisci (the designer for Givenchy) has a new interview with Details – you can read the full piece here. He name-checks Kim and Kanye, but the whole piece is a really good read. Here’s the big Kimye part:

DETAILS: You often post #family along with your Instagram photos of famous friends. How do you forge authentic friendships with them?
Tisci:
They feel that I’m not there to dress a celebrity. I dress people even when they don’t have an Oscar nomination or they don’t have an album out. If they’re my friends, I respect them to the end. And you need to feel people stay with you because they love you, not only as an artist, but also as a human being. Look at Kanye and Kim—at the beginning, I was the only one.

DETAILS: Kim wasn’t always accepted in the fashion community.
Tisci:
By nobody. And she’s a sweet girl. And Kanye and me, we did it together. Every designer is dying to dress her now. I didn’t care what people thought about Kim. In the beginning, I met her because of my respect for Kanye, and then I liked her a lot and we became friends. I got killed because of this. But I didn’t care. That is a friend, you see. And this is why, when they got married, they asked me to dress them. They say, “You’ve always been with us. You’ve been a real friend.” If I like somebody, I like somebody. If I don’t like somebody, I don’t like somebody.

[From Details]

Ha, “nobody” respected Kim. “I got killed because of this” – because he dared to dress Kim and befriend her. Yeah. It’s not really a ringing endorsement, and the subtext is that Kanye and Riccardo worked as Henry Higgins and Col. Pickering to “Eliza Doolittle” Kim into something that would somewhat presentable. Poor Kim. She’s just their Barbie doll.

Did the fashion industry make him take 100 showers before they worked with him again?

  2. Flora Kitty says:

Kanye and Ricardo as “Henry Higgins and Col. Pickering to Kim’s “Eliza Doolittle” , no more like Donna and Donald Dasher to Kim’s “Dawn Davenport” and North West as her daughter Taffy.

    • Tristan says:

Hahaha that’s the best comment ever! Female Trouble is the best movie of all time!

    • denisemich says:

Not sure about the Dasher reference maybe before my time? Anywho… Kim dressed really cheezy before Kanye. The white outfit that she wore at Paris Fashion Week last year was fab.

Sometimes your husband, mother, brother or cousin knows what fits your body better than you.

In Kim’s case, she just wasn’t great at dressing herself. LOL

      • Tristan says:

La Kartrashian is the worst serial killer of outfits of all time! She could wear the most beautiful clothing (which she doesn’t) & still make it look cheap, tacky & nasty!

      • Kitten says:

I actually agree that she’s dressing much better with Kanye involved, but isn’t it weird that her husband dresses her in the first place?

    • Gabriella says:

I don’t get the Eliza Doolittle reference. Do they mean the british singer? Can someone explain it to me, please? Sorry for my ignorance

EDIT: Just googled it, it’s probably Eliza from ‘My Fair Lady’, right? lol duh!

  3. Josephine says:

If he got “killed,” it was because he created very unflattering clothing, and then whined that no one was good enough to understand his creations. This whining by the rich and entitled is exhausting. I also side-eye his suggestion that everyone is anxious to dress Kim. She has that unique ability to make everything look cheap.

    • Mia V. says:

Yep. The Givenchy designs nowadays are awful, Hubert de Givenchy must be dying all over again, just like Coco Chanel, whose brand is having Kim on front row shows.

    • Michelle says:

I agree – I don’t believe him when he says everyone wants to dress Kim. I think Kanye has “star power” so he can literally do what he apparently did for Kim for the Grammy’s-call up a fashion house (Gaultier in the case of the Grammy’s) and request that a dress be sent over. That doesn’t equate to fashion houses all clambering over who gets to dress her. Fashion is all about trends and right now it is trendy to pay attention to Kim and Kanye. As long as the whole world is abuzz about them and their bullshit, the fashion world and Anna Wintour will continue to humor them in the tongue-in-cheek way they’ve been doing.

Kim and Kanye must have very little self respect though, because if I had to hear constantly about how I’m “not deeply tasteful” or how people in certain circles were once so disgusted by me that they turned on anyone who befriended me, I don’t think I would want to be involved in that circle. These two know that no one respected them, that many people still don’t and they both try so hard to change that, it’s kind of sad.

      • Josephine says:

The fact that they refused to tailor the dress for her is a great indication that they had no desire to dress her. They were willing to sell him a dress, but they didn’t dress Kim.

    • fritanga says:

So Tisci maintains that designers are now fighting to dress Kim? In what universe? Everything she wears SHE BUYS (and then tries to flog on eBay). No one is trying to get her to wear their clothes because she’s not the sort of person they want associated with their clothes: nouveau-riche, tasteless, crass and cheap. Pull the other one, Riccardo. I mean, there’s standing by your man (and his revolting pseudo-wife), but really.

      • Mia V. says:

I don’t like Tisci as a designer, he doesn’t have ANY major look that people can recognize as his and he himself doesn’t make good clothes for Kim. If he was a true friend he would say “Girl, you need to dress your own size and stop showing boobs and butt all the time”.

    • Eleonor says:

      YEP.
He dare to dress her: he wrapped her in my Grandma carpet and called it gown…

      • Chrissy says:

And don’t forget the matching shoes and purse. That MET Gala outfit was so laughably hideous! LOL

  4. Chibichichai says:

That picture at the end with Kim holding North, Kim’s face reminds me of a camel. I cannot unsee this. Chica tight buns are not for you.

    • NewWester says:

I was thinking in that pic of Kayne, Kim, North and Ricardo. It almost looks like Kayne and Ricardo are holding hands behind Kim’s back

    • Ruyana says:

Yes, and of the four in the photo Kim is the *only* one looking at the camera. And poor little Kompass once again looks like she’s ready to cry. Poor baby.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Too bad she looked much better before those two got hold of her.

  6. LadyMTL says:

If designers really were dying to dress Kim Kardashian, she’d look a lot better. Her clothes are always ill-fitting, eesh. No designer worthy of the name would say she looked good stuffed into a skirt that’s probably 2 sizes too small for her curves.

    • amanda says:

      hahaha amen!

    • Mia V. says:

The serious designers aren’t dying to dress Kim, she usually wears the same brands: Balmain and Givenchy. If they were serious about dressing her, the dress she wore at the Grammy’s would’ve been tailored, just like all the other clothes that make her look as a sausage.

      • Michelle says:

Exactly, Mia. Kim said in an interview that Kanye called up Gauliter for that dress for her which explains why she looked like shit. In reality, “everyone wants to dress her” is now “Kanye calls people up for clothes and parades her around in them.”

  7. amanda says:

“Poor Kim. She’s just their Barbie doll.”

….I can’t think of anything else she’s ever strived for but to be a doll for men to look at and use…oh and I guess she likes money, too.

    poor nothin’.

  8. sally says:

I like that Riccardo mentioned how sweet Kim is. I’ve never heard anyone say to the contrary about her.

  9. Neners says:

And now Kim looks worse than she ever has. The obliviousness is just mind-boggling.

  10. A Different Kate says:

Every designer is not dying to dress Kim. Very few will dress her.

    • Mojoman says:

if I was a well known reputable designer, I will avoid dressing her (and other reality TV personalities) knowing that will bring less credibility on my designs. Obviously These designers (chanel, YSL, etc) cant control what these tacky people buy but when it comes to red carpet/events, I assume these designers will pick and chose who they want to represent their clothes.

  11. epiphany says:

Befriended, huh? What a charming euphemism.

  12. Jayna says:

I am so sick of seeing North in black.

    • MoeC23 says:

You would think that with all the money those two have they would know that colors and patterns are stimulating to children and help their little brains develop. It’s also useful in teaching them colors!

  13. Tracy says:

That poor kid always looks afraid, stressed and miserable. Not to mention ridiculous always dressed in black or grey.

    • Lucky Charm says:

I’m sure the reason she had her tantrum at the fashion show was because she was with Kim in the front row, with a bunch of strangers, and couldn’t find her nanny. She just wanted to see a familiar face and be in the safety of her nanny’s arms.

  14. scout says:

Kanye is the only one who is dressing her in those terrible clothes she wears lately, who are they kidding?

  15. jvlovesk says:

I hate to say this, but the last few days have had me feeling really sympathetic for Kim Kardashian. I have to be honest I never really got her before. I didn’t find anything about her “schtick” that related to me. But watching her struggle with her daughter lol, reminded me of the time my son started screaming that he had to go potty while my husband was accepting an Humanitarian Award. Everyone just looked at us like we were at alien trash dumped here by Martians! I was so embarrassed, I did the same thing she did and ran for the hills with my son in tow. It is impossible to describe the sheer panic you feel at those moments. And I totally understand why she brought her. It was a big deal for a husband and so a big deal for the whole family. My husband wanted us all there for his special day. Equally shocking is that he laughed it off just like Kanye did with his daughter. I can even relate to this article. I know first hand how hard it is to dress your curves and still be chic and trendy. I harrass my husband every morning about my outfits, and as long as it “accentuates” my curves, he says I look amazing. After all these years together though I am still not sure if I really do look good….or he justs wants me to hurry up lol But maybe that’s what Kanye does with Kim.

    • MAP says:

+1000. Every mom on the planet knew exactly how she felt when that adorbs baby melted down. Now, usually, my kids melt down at the grocery store, and not front row at NYFW, but still. Been there sister.

      Also, more North grumpyface please.

    • oneshot says:

it’s normal to bring your baby to your husband’s big day, and you did what any responsible mother would have – it’s a big day for your family, and A-ok for your child to be there. Same with Kanye’s show.

But Kim was toting North around to other designers’ fashion shows where she was having meltdowns in the front row at Alexander Wang…….I mean, who thinks it is a good idea to bring a toddler out to a crowded and noisy event full of strange people and weird sights, in the cold, when it’s not even of any significance to her like her daddy’s show? Kim just wanted to show her off, wellbeing of the child be damned.

  16. Decorative Item says:

I wonder if this new public dissing of Kanye is just the beginning. Usually, once one person of “credit” pops up others gain the courage to do so as well. They seem to be at the Paris Hilton height of popularity where they get a lot of attention because people love to comment on how much they dislike them. But, eventually people get tired of saying the same things and move onto some other obnoxious fool. And, as much as I’d love to see these two slither quietly off into obscurity, truth is, I fear the freak show that will follow them.

  17. minx says:

That picture is so bizarre…Obviously Kanye and Tisci are lovers. Kim is their mannequin. Kim has to wear extreme cleavage because that’s all she has, her body. And poor North is trapped in the middle of this bunch of narcissists, dressed for adult “fashion”, dragged around to runway shows, sitting on laps, looking miserable.

  18. Suzy from Ontario says:

He got killed in the fashion industry when he designed that upholstery outfit for Kim when she was pregnant. I think it was for the Met Gala. Horrible!

    • feebee says:

This was my thought too…. that he got killed because of how he dressed Kim – and not just the Met Gala, pretty much everything. I think your talent is best on display when you can successfully dress the shape that’s not 5’10, size 2 or 4.

  19. workdog says:

I don’t understand why her boobs have to be on display all.the.time. She’s a reasonably pretty woman, and dressing sexy is not a crime. The crime is what they think is sexy; what they do is more Frederick’s of Hollywood, only tackier…and that’s not easy to do. Honestly, I don’t get why she doesn’t push back on the constant exposing of her entire body.

    Oh, wait…f.a.m.e.w.h.o.r.e.

    Damned shame.

And who the F dresses a CHILD in a bullet proof vest??? These two are beyond the pale.

  20. oneshot says:

I’ve loved many of Ricardo Tisci’s designs for Givenchy especially 2008-11, if he wants to befriend Kim then whatever. His life, his clothes.

but Kanye has always been sniffed at by the fashion world for his design pretensions. I know people in the last thread tried to claim that his fugly designs and styling for his fashion line were in some way edgy or groundbreaking, but it’s all the emperor’s new clothes – he was copying concepts he’d seen at other actually talented designers’ shows (Rick Owens, for one). He would have been fine if he remained in his lane as a sharply dressed celebrity, but he bought himself an own-label show in Paris Fashion Week – an opportunity that even now-legendary designers have had to wait YEARS to be invited to show at – his very first time out.

I have seen the work of designers who actually dare to push the envelope and disregarded notions of prettiness and conventionality to express their creativity, and Kanye as a “designer” isn’t even fit to kiss the dust off the feet of Rei Kawakubo, Gareth Pugh, Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander McQueen (in his early years), Meadham Kirchoff, or Martin Margiela. And designers who lack the skill and training are never thought as highly of – Rodarte are fashion darlings who like to hold shows with highfaluting ideas but even they are bitched out for lacking technical skills when it comes to clothes. Kanye is no different.

    • lirko says:

Just checked out some design of Rick Owens, and yes, you can certainly notice a similar aesthetic in Kanyes collection – many similar bomber type jackets that have interesting variations. He’s really good at those hyperstructured pieces. Good call.

  21. Michelle says:

Fashion is all about trends, and right now the trend is to humor these two. It’ll pass. The fact that there are people in the fashion world speaking out saying that Kanye is a hack as a designer is great because it means theres a chance they’ll go away soon. I think most people feel like Kim and Kanye are severely overexposed at this point.

  22. M.J. says:

He SHOULD be killed for helping to elevate these two badly dressed a$$holes to anything more than the POS they are.

  23. mar says:

    Kim’s face looks so bizarre

  24. Nicolette says:

Awww. What’s the matter? His boyfriend Kanye couldn’t help him?

  25. word says:

Are designers really dying to dress Kim now? She does nothing for their clothes. I mean they don’t even fit right. Why would you want her wearing your designs if they don’t look flattering?

  26. Kim1 says:

Everyone wants to dress her? Really? I must have missed the interview when Armani, D.Versace, Ralph Lauren,Calvin Klein,Valentino, etc said they wanted to dress Kim K.

  27. daisyfly says:

Uh…I think he was figuratively “killed” when he did this:

    http://blog.opsh.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/spl538948_024.jpg

It’s just passe to pass yourself off as a potential Vogue-level fashion designer when your most famous piece of clothing could also be on the front cover of the latest Lay-z Boy catalog.

  28. Veritas says:

I don’t think Ricardo is a great designer. A great designer would make u look good at all times. I’ve never seen Kim look good at all. And Kanye stinks as a stylist. Makes Kim look bigger than she is all the time and I’ve had enough of her cleavage. She might as well go out topless.

  29. Iheartgossip says:

Kanyeeeee will be very mad his boyfriend is calling him a ‘friend’. He isn’t a good designer to begin with; had / has nothing to do with these two fools.
