I genuinely want Britney Spears to be happy and find some peace in her life. I do think she’s doing a lot better these days, after what was probably some adjustments to her meds. She seems much more lucid and a lot less anxious these days. But she is still under a conservatorship. This is not some loose arrangement with her dad simply acting as her business manager. This is still a hardcore legal structure where her dad exerts almost total control over Britney’s finances, personal life, romantic life and career. Her dad even has a say in how much time she spends with her sons, Sean and Jayden.
So… it does irritate me a little bit that everyone is supposed to “pretend” that Britney is just a normal working mom, making all of these decisions for herself. But here we go. Britney covers this week’s issue of People Magazine with her sons. You can read the first excerpt from the cover story here – it’s all about Britney being happy and in a good place. Which I do believe. Some assorted quotes:
Britney is happy: “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.” Spears says she’s in a “real good place… I’m very blessed.”
Her sons Sean Preston, 9, and Jayden James, 8. “My kids come first in my life, bottom line.”
How she raises them: “Homework is a priority. We have a reward system that helps motivate them: if they get so many As, they get one toy a month. Preston is very opinionated, very expressive, and if he doesn’t like something, he’s going to tell you. But he has a huge heart, he’s a good kid and he has manners … Jayden is sweet, very soft-spoken, kinda funny. He’s adorable — a momma’s boy.”
The kids want an allowance: “Preston just asked for a high allowance – like $10 a week or $20 a week – but we’ll see!”
The boys like Britney’s new boyfriend Charlie Ebersol: “They relate to him really well and they have fun together. He’s refreshing to be around and really light-hearted.”
I think Charlie Ebersol does make Britney happy, but I also think she just loves having a boyfriend in general. She totally wants to marry Charlie, but she can’t until Jamie Spears gives his okay. Charlie sounded up for it a few weeks ago though – he made some comments that seem to indicate that he would totally marry her. So what’s the hold up? I hope Jamie Spears doesn’t want Charlie to become “co-conservator” like he tried to do with Jason Trawick. As for her boys… are we calling Sean Preston by his middle name now? I don’t think I’ve ever heard her do that before. So Sean Preston goes by “Preston Federline”. Huh.

I’m pretty sure my parents didn’t a TV either since my sister and I are Irish twins as well, 9 days less then a year apart and mother is always proud, happy and eager to let everyone know.

While I’ve always been anti-Britney just for the blight her lack of talent has been on the music industry all these years, it was genuinely horrifying to witness that breakdown years back. Good to see she seems to be in a better place at least in her personal life.
She really deserves to be happy, and one thing I like about Britney even at the height of her mega fame she never came across as a diva, always sweet and humble. I hope the conservatorship is not forever.
I have such a soft spot for her and I’m so glad she’s found stability. We’re the same age and I’m also from the south so I’ve always liked her, and I was really worried about her during the breakdown, it was heartbreaking to watch. She does seem like a sweet girl who was very driven but also pushed into this life and I think it got to be too much, combined with manipulative people in her life at that time, thank goodness for her dad. If I remember correctly he has a successful career as a chef so I don’t think he does the conservatorship for the money or control, I think he was genuinely afraid for her life.
Her boys are so cute and I can’t believe how old they are! Charlie seems like a nice guy, something about him seems safe to me, and he has his own money so she doesn’t have to worry about that. His comments about her were sweet! Wish them the best!
She is one of the few celebrity women whose family took her breakdown seriously. Her father, I believe, put her in UCLA psychiatric ward, a lockdown, for 6 months so she got real help, not the Lindsay Lohan celebrity-rehab kind of help. They more than likely saved her life doing it.
I always think fondly of this beautiful young woman and wish the best for her. It must be hell growing up a child/teen actor and performer.

I can’t help but think she’s just a money making robot these days. Hopefully someday soon they’ll let her retire to the backwoods of Louisianna to let her live in peace.
She has always seemed like a robot to me! Some virtual reality being who doesn’t really exist. Glad she seems well.
I mean, the northshore isn’t REALLY the backwoods, despite all the Kentwood jokes we tend to make down here.
But Jamie Lynn leads a fairly quiet life across the state line in McComb, and I often wonder if that would suit Britney, too.
I find it disturbing. To be under a conservator this long suggests either a very real mental health problem, or corruption. If she has such serious problems, why is she propped up on stage to make money for other people? Why people still pay for her mechanical performances, I don’t know. And I always cringe when she discusses the kids she doesn’t seem to have much custody.
Everyone always forgets that Britney has TWO conservatory. The second conservator is an independent attorney who is appointed by the court. The decisions must be made by BOTH of them.
I can’t help it. I love Britney. I don’t necessarily think that she is the most talented “super star,” but I do think she can work extremely hard, and when she does, she is magical. Also, she seems like a genuinely a very caring person. She is damn funny too. Her appearance on Will and Grace was one of my favorites, and she has been great on Saturday Night Live. She does have some emotional/mental instability- obviously- but getting away from her mother has helped. Mama Lynne did what a lot of mamangers do- hypersexualized her very, very young daughter and pimped her out for cold hard cash. These crazy mamangers could make the best of us go nuts.
Lynne Spears is no Kris Jenner. From what I recall, Lynne was never Britney’s manager or has not been her manager since she had her big break around 1997? “Baby One More Time”. Larry Rudolph and company have been controlling Britney’s career for the past decade or more except for that two year period when she broke free, married Kevin Federline and then had a major breakdown.
I believe Jamie and Lynne never really controlled Britney’s career and deferred to her management team and record label. They are not sophisticated media people and I do not believe they came up with the idea to present Britney as the girl next door/sex kitten imagery.
Queen B is right about Kris and Lynne. I do understand the point Rhiley was making, which was that Britney was not protected by her folks (I think they were still married then?) from things like having to sexy as a teen to sell records.
Britney is more talented than she’s allowed to be, which I have never understood, she could SING when she was a little girl, but someone decided “Nah, do this weird Minnie Mouse voice instead”. She does have a lovely sense of humor too, I agree! I was just wondering recently if she will ever be back to host SNL, she was always so good! (And frankly, they need help!)
I think that hard work was part of what made her crash – just being so busy all the time, maybe post-partum, having the boys so quickly.
Whoever said she looks bad and commented about her teeth – HUH? She is so pretty and has always had gorgeous teeth! I notice that for some reason. Jessica Simpson has enormous veneers, and doesn’t always brush them, maybe you were thinking of her.

It’s always crazy to think of how much she’s been through in her life. I want good things for her too.
Always glad to hear her feeling good, but take it with a grain of salt bc she’s on meds so it’s hard to determine how genuinely happy she is v. a happy pill. I hope this new guy treats her good and accepts & loves her the way she is. She was/is definitely a money making robot for that entire family and frankly, I blame them, more than her exes, for her epic meltdown years ago. I know she was literally having a mental breakdown and needed psychiatric help, but I still beleive the pressures of hving to provide for and support an entire family at such a young fragile age is what caused her to have a mental illness in the first place. It isn’t always just a chemical imbalance someone is born with or even early adult onset bipolar. Who is to say what caused the chemical imbalance in the first place. It isn’t a coincidence that she was stressed and pressured beyond her capacity to cope. Her mother is another she-devil, like Kris K. They do not love their children and protect them. They use, exploit, guilt, and manipulate them. I’d love to see Kris K, Lynn Spears, Trish Cyrus, and Dina Lohan all dropped on a desserted island to fend for themselves and have to live with only eachother for the rest of their lives.

I can’t revisit the topic of Britney Spears without thinking of Sierra Boggess singing “Think of Me” as Britney in Miscast. It was more like “Think of Britney”. Joking aside, she’s come a long way. I love how supportive everyone has been. I’m more a fan of her now than I was in the past. Mental illness is no joke. Keep going Britney. Really happy for her beautiful family.
I just adore her!! Always have. My heart broke for her when she went though that post Federline breakdown. I hope she has all the good things for the rest of her life, and can someday run her OWN life the way she wants to. And those kids are too cute!

I want to like her, but I just can’t get past the fact that she makes nearly 500k per show in that Vegas gig, and she doesn’t sing!! For the amount her fans are paying, she should be able to sing at least a FEW songs live. She just doesn’t seem to care, just laughs all the way to the bank.
I love Britney I’m a huge fan. She’s always been very warm and kind. Her kids are so cute and she’s been spotted several times without a boyfriend taking care of them being there for their sports games basketball, gymnastics, soccer. She gives hope to all that struggle with mental illness that maybe everything can get better one day. She has this light in her eyes since she met Charlie he really makes her glow. A guy like that is very hard to find.
Britney is looking very odd in these pics., especially around her mouth. She’s definitely had some kind of fillers or work done. Maybe veneers. Not loving it.
I find it terribly ironic that here is Britney who probably had a nervous breakdown after years of being in the public eye, dogged by paparazzi, etc., but is an adult woman who can more than likely make good choices for herself and her boys…
Then we have poor Kylie Jenner (her photo is on the right side of the screen now), who was pulled out of school and normal socialization with kids her age, not given ANY education, still VERY under-age…. and her parents seem to forget she exists.
How about switching? Someone please parent poor Kylie, who is going to end up in far worse shape than Brit ever was, and allow Britney to return to be an adult who makes her own choices. This world is so upside down in so many ways!
All of that said, Brit looks gorgeous and healthy and too young to be those handsome boys’ Mom!! I hope she is happy… we have seen too many who were “child stars” lives end so tragically, and they were famous because they had a talent. Poor Kylie is famous because her sister ….. well, we all know. Hoping for good things for everyone!
