First image of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor: uneventful or intense?

I keep forgetting that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actually has a real villain. Like, Zac Snyder isn’t just making the film about Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman (Jason Momoa). There’s a real villain, Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Entertainment Weekly got their hands on the first character portrait of Lex Luthor and… it just looks like a glowering Jesse Eisenberg with no hair. INTENSE!

Don’t get me wrong, I actually sort of like Jesse Eisenberg. I think he’s talented and he deserved his Oscar nomination for The Social Network. I was as surprised as anyone that Jesse would agree to play Lex Luthor, but here we go. I wonder if he enjoyed his superhero/supervillain experience. Doubtful.

EW says that Aquaman only has a “cameo” but that Wonder Woman’s part is “sizable”. And I guess we’re supposed to believe that Lex Luthor is set up as the Big Bad. Zac Snyder tells EW:

“He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course. Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”

[From EW]

Eh. I mean, sure. I didn’t hate Man of Steel, but I’m not sure that I’m totally on-board for the Batfleck plus Wonder Woman plus intense bald dude Lex Luthor.

I wouldn’t describe him as intense, more like any prisoner ever. Unless you compare him to his curly self, then he does indeed look less childlike.

I liked Kevin Spacey as LL

He looks better with the buzz cut and aside from seeing Momoa half naked (perhaps) I’m not excited about this movie which is sad because of the whole Batman/Superman anticipation all these years and then they dropped a snoozed cast, he’s probably the best in the whole movie tbh

As a 40 year fan of Superman in comics/movies/television: no, just no.

I think it’s a good look for Jesse. I will probably see this movie because he’s in it. I can take or leave the rest. I honestly don’t think the world needs more Superman. He’s lame.

Horrible. Not at all Lex Luthor to me.

    Somewhere inbetween uneventful and intense.
    Perhaps unintense or eventense?

I’m just trying to suss out what that triangle thing is below his bottom lip. Can’t stop staring at that.

SNyder will ruin more beloved comic stories.
There’s a pretty neat drinking game that happens for those. Like for a Snyder comic movie. Drink every time you see a woman on her knees or at the mercy of a larger male figure.
Kind of like the Michael Bay game. Everytime he does an up the nose angled shot you drink.

Nothing about this film seems redeeming. Special effects will be all over the place. Fight scenes will take up at least 1/3 of the film without dialogue. And if you have any true knowledge of the original comics in the originnal universe you’re feel your inner child crying during the viewing.

Jesse’s head made me think of skin heads and not manipulative, intelligent, charismatic, and dangerous Lex.

Love Jesse, I don’t have a problem with the looks but his voice doing a villan? His voice is too nerdy…

  9. Happy21 says:

I cannot stand his acting. At all! He is the exact same in everything. When I saw Rio I had to turn it off because even though it was a cute movie I couldn’t see anything other than Eisenberg as the bird. It was THAT bad for me. I don’t know that I’ll be able to stand him in this either. He’s like Michael Cera. The same person – all the freakin’ TIME! Michael Cera might as well be Lex Luthor. I think it’d be the same bloody thing…

LOL, rant over. As you can see I have a really big problem with this casting choice 😉

The only time I found Jesse interesting was when he did that horrible interview with Romina. That was hysterical to me. However, as a comic nerd, I’m not really down with him as Lex. It does LOOK better than I thought. The woman in me just wants Michael Rosenbaum forever and always. Swoon.

    LOL nope.
