Duchess Kate repeats the hot pink Mulberry coat: fabulous & buttony?

wenn22343049

This is probably Duchess Kate’s last public appearance before the baby comes. Maybe. We’ve been told that for the past few engagements, so you never know. Sources close to Kate claim that she’s feeling pretty good in the third trimester, and she wanted to get her numbers up before the baby comes. She told a commoner that her due date is mid-to-late April, so starting on April 10th, I think the media will probably start camping outside of the hospital for The Great Kate Wait 2.0.

As for this appearance, Kate and William visited the Stephen Lawrence Centre’s XLP Arts Project in South East London. They have several appearances today (or at least it will count as several engagements). For the appearance, Kate wore a repeat. Do you remember this £1,500 silk Mulberry coat in bright pink? You should! It was very controversial when she wore it the first time, months ago, while she and William were in New York. Kate wore this the first time to the 9/11 Memorial on a rain-soaked day, just one day after she had worn somber black to meet with kids. It just seemed like her stylist had mixed up the days – the 9/11 Memorial needed somber style and the kids needed something cheerful. But today, the pink coat works.

What else? Her clutch is by Mulberry too. And her heels are Stuart Weitzman. I’m fine with her hair down, although her hands were constantly adjusting, brushing, fondling and patting stray locks, so she still needs another system for her hair when she’s doing appearances that involve lots of hand-shaking and physical contact. As for her body language with William… they actually seem pretty connected here. He even looked at her with a great deal of affection.

  1. I have a similar coat, so I cannot comment.

  2. Sullivan says:

She looks lovely. Wearing the coat now makes more sense than when she last wore it.

  3. bettyrose says:

Except for the color, great coat.

  4. Jenny says:

She always wears the same style plain heels and coats

    • angelique says:

For sure. It seems like a style she doesn’t stray from. At least the coat was cut straight so no maternity pants, or no pants. were seen, ermm flashed.

  5. dr mantis toboggan says:

I’m loving the green and black outfit her friend is wearing. Not so hot on the pink coat

    • Olenna says:

I like that outfit, too. With a different pair of shoes (she needs a little more height), she would be workin’ it.

    • PassiveAggressiveSubmissive says:

The Women in the green and black is Stephen Lawrence’s mother Doreen, she is now a Baroness and a member of the House of Lords: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doreen_Lawrence,_Baroness_Lawrence_of_Clarendon

    • PipaMid says:

I agree- Green outfit is better. PW*W seem to be concerned with the paps than what the lady was saying. Pink coat is ok – seem oversized (especially at the arm–maybe to make bump appear bigger ?!)

Hello has a photo of POW Prince Charles and a young grandson P George (may have taken in AZ play date wear). Photo seem to confirm POW hardly see his grandson, as PG seem to be stretching to nanny Maria..

      • FLORC says:

Moments in time captured are not true actions. It’s a work of fiction.
By your logic if there are a few photos of Kate where she’s blinking it could be argued by you Kate ever opens her eyes.

      • inner stillness says:

        I agree PipaMid ,
Kate seemed more focused on papz and how her hair might be placed.

My heart aches for The Lady who lost her son. It was heartwrenching.

One of the teens who met PW/K complained about them. He said they had NO clue …and could not relate to anything ….
        ………….
“One 17-year-old calling himself Hero complained: “They had no clue where we were coming from. I don’t think they could relate to anything we said.

“They are just keeping up appearances. They wanted to make it look like they related. ”

  6. candice says:

I get the impression from her wardrobe selection that she seems uncomfortable with her changing figure and wants to conceal it as much as possible. Don’t get me wrong – extremely clingy, immodest outfits are not appropriate, but there is a happy medium between dressing stylishly, professionally and age-appropriate v.s. letting it all hang out. Her extreme diet & grueling exercise regimen are testament to the fact that she wants to be as lean as possible – at any cost – and she seems to have poor body image to go along with it.

    • BW says:

It’s still winter in England. Everyone is wearing dress coats. They have heavy winter coats and light weight spring coats and suits that are dresses with matching coats (see the lady in the awesome green and black). I used to live there. When you were going somewhere and you weren’t going to take your coat off, you wore your dress coat.

      • AuroraO says:

No, it is not winter in England. It is spring. Maybe it feels like winter but it is no longer winter.

      • candice says:

Looking at how people are dressed on some of the UK based websites, it seems very spring-like…

      • MBP says:

It’s March. Which means today was lovely and sunny, but it was snowing yesterday.

  7. wolfpup says:

At the risk of sounding crude – dresses *all the time* remind me of how a man likes access. Some women (a girlfriend of mine,) wears them just for the imagination of men. And honestly, where I travel, I have to be aware of that sort of thing – wild and wily men can frighten me.

{No offense to duchess, but she seems very aware of what is (and isn’t) underneath her skirts}. Slap me on the side of the head – whatever – I used to getting hit.

    • Olenna says:

Nah, no slapping today, wolfpup. It’s another Happy Friday, so you get a pass!

    • Squiggles says:

Never even thought of it that way.

Personally, I wear dresses almost exclusively in the summer. It is just easier, no matching/coordinating, making certain separates are clean. And in the heat and humidity, cooler.

      • Beckysuz says:

Yes! I love a comfy sundress in the summer months. It’s easy and keeps me cool.

      • angelique says:

Me too. But I don’t wear them on windy days, in front of paps, and representing my Queen. Just sayin’.

    • Bucky says:

…? OK. Well. Or she just doesn’t like wearing pants that much. I don’t either. Never once have I worn a dress and tights into the office thinking about the access it gives men, I mean, WTF.

      • justme says:

+1 Bucky. I don’t like wearing pants either (except jeans for casual wear.) Never care for dress pants on me. I’ve been wearing dresses and skirts all my working life (and most of my school life as well – Catholic school!) and so for that matter did most women throughout the twentieth century (until the 1970s-80s) and I don’t think ALL (or even most) of us were thinking of it in terms of access for men!

    • mazzie says:

I mostly wear dresses because between the small waist, generous ass and thighs and long legs, getting trousers that fit off the rack is nigh on impossible.

And considering I wear heavy black tights with them for about 8 months of the year, I promise you it’s not easy access.

      (also, what the hell? Really?)

    • wolfpup says:

Happy Friday, thanks, Olenna. I shouldn’t ever ask for it, I know.

Just saying…sometimes it’s great fun to dress up “underneath”, and give your lover glimpses…

      • Feeshalori says:

If you wore a pair of patent leather shoes, the lover wouldn’t have to look too hard, lol! Product of a Catholic school education; the nuns warned us never to wear patent leather since boys can use the shiny surface to look up our skirts. Oh, the happy days and the nuns’ warped philosophy!!!!

      • LAK says:

        Freesholari: that’s hysterical. LOL

      • MinnFinn says:

wolfpup, You are a rascally tart. Kudos.

    • MinnFinn says:

      wolfpup,
The access thing now that you mention it is plausible. A similar stubborn commitment to tease hubby could also account for why the first time she flashed her thong under a floaty dress wasn’t the last time.

For a brutal beating way beyond a slap on the head, post your comment on HR Duchess Kate blogspot. IF it gets posted, the wannabees will be ruthless. And what I find brutal is not the disparaging of my character but that the moderator refuses to post any of your logical, polite and non-personal rebuttals.

      • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

I find the easy access thing plausible. She has been easy access for William for years: whenever he wanted her she came and when he didn’t want her for a while she retreated.
Also I think that these rather feminine dresses are a way of showing submissiveness. Don’t get me wrong: some women look more fierce in dress / skirt+jacket combinations than in trousers. But those flirty short silky numbers which Kate wears aren’t ment to emphasize her equal footing. She plays the submissive little wifey to William and expresses that in her clothes. Princess Laetizia of Spain does wear trousers rather well and rather often.
The only time Kate wore trousers happened during the Olympic Games and she wore skinny jeans in the style of spray-on-tight camel-toe elastics and it did look tacky.

      • bluhare says:

Apparently I know you over there! 🙂

I agree that the climate has got less tolerant, and that they can’t say anything about the comments so they attack the posters. It’s my biggest hot button over there, but I must say that Charlotte has never refused to post anything of mine. That makes me sad if she’s refused to post rebuttals to some of the comments that are lobbed. Most of them deserve it. I’m of the opinion that everyone has a right to their opinion, however irrational, but attacking the poster rather than talking about the post is a no-go.

      • Olenna says:

TBA, ITA. I’ve never thought she did the short floaty dress, barely covered butt thing because she’s an exhibitionist per se. I’ve always thought it was done with William in mind. But the stubborn attitude she’s displayed in not changing this “style” until recently tells me, personally, a lot about her level of maturity and self esteem.

      • MinnFinn says:

Yes hi bluhare. I speak the truth about my rebuttals not getting posted. As I’ve said often, I’m totally convinced the aggressors’ strategy over there is to drive away dissenting opinions. And they are having success. And btw, I even emailed Charlotte separately last go around (3X!) asking her to post a specific response that I submitted 2X and she never emailed me back or posted it. So I gave up over there.

Whenever I see your user name I picture you as Marge Simpson (from the cartoon) typing away with her giant blue bouffant. And LAK reminds me I need to get to IKEA.
        Happy Palm Sunday!

      • MinnFinn says:

        Olenna,
I go back and forth on the exhibitionist thing. The reason I think she might have a little of that in her is b/c she “let” the thong flash happen several times. If it was so important to her to do that to him in connection with an appearance, she could have found a way to privately flash him in the heli.

      • bluhare says:

hmmm, MinnFinn. Not exactly the image I was going for, but that’s pretty funny!

  8. belle de jour says:

Boring (cut, shoes, hem) + a bit gimmicky (contrast buttons, pocket seam, unfortunate eighties color combo) at the same time. But then, I’m not a fan of most of her so-called ‘fashion’ or ‘style’ choices in general. Or predictable hair and eyeliner, for that matter.
Sigh. I wish she’d play more with silhouette, texture, variety and accessories. I just see so many of her outfits as safe combinations of interchangeable Grrranimals separates.

    • angelique says:

      She’s a one-trick pony. Don’t expect anything to change.

      • Feeshalori says:

If the buttons were covered with fabric and those unnecessary pocket flaps gone, I’d like the style much better. But the color is beautiful on her although the hair is the usual flyaway mop.

  9. Thinker says:

    Wig!!!!

    • FLORC says:

No Wig or Wiglet. I’m calling it.

Extensions are likely or something to add volume like a blowout, but no Wig.

    • md1979 says:

Nah… just extra thick pregnancy hair. You don’t shed as much when you’re pregnant. Your hair goes massive. I found it kind of annoying as this doesn’t only apply to hair on your head!

      • FLORC says:

        md
True you grow more and shed less while pregnant. Better skin and stronger nails being part of this for many. Kate’s hair has been this way if not larger since the engagement though.

It’s not unreasonable to suggest she’s wearing extensions. Many women do this. And that’s not something anyone should feel insulted by.

And those pregnant ladies are often shocked at how much hair they’ll shed a month later. I’ve had a handful truly fear they were going bald.

  10. Ponytail says:

Not having been pregnant, can I ask a dumb question ? Is it normal to be wearing a coat at 8 months that isn’t actually a maternity coat ? As we know she’s worn this coat before, when she wasn’t pregnant, is it normal that she can still button it up at 8 months in to her pregnancy ? I had a friend that wore her usual coat at 5 months but she said she wasn’t showing much so she got away with it. Has this pink coat been altered ?

    • Micki says:

Yes, why not? each woman carry differently.
My OB advised to put not more than 15 kg. (2.4 Stone) Anything else stays there long after birth. I think she takes care what she eats and doesn’t do it “for two”.

      • kk2 says:

Yep, not that weird. And her seamstress could have easily let it out a little if she needed an extra inch or two. Im due in early may and I can still zip up my winter coat- though the zipper is definitely starting to protest.

      • Micki says:

kk2: best wishes and easy delivery!

    • FLORC says:

Totally normal. Every pregnant woman carries differently.

If anyone watches The Walking Dead the actress who plays Sasha is pregnant during these episodes. On Talking Dead she appeared to not gain any weight, but was smuggling a large ball in her stomach. For the show they put her in a large shirt (Bob’s) and her sniper rifle is often resting there too.
Really, some ladies just carry that way.

    • md1979 says:

Totally fine. Should may have bought a larger size for width, and had the shoulders / arms altered.

She’s carrying so well. She looks awesome.

    • India Andrews says:

Kate is the only woman I know who can do nonmaternity at eight months. Everyone I’ve known in my non-online life was in maternity by eight months. I think Kate still diets and works out like crazy, even when preggers.

      • Sarah says:

Remember her illness though in early pregnancy – she likely lost some weight due to that. Also though – it’s nobody’s effing business how much weight someone does or does not gain at any stage in their life, let alone during something as personal as a pregnancy. Don’t give me any ‘she’s a royal’ business. We don’t live in the Middle Ages. Her body is her own, it does not belong to England.

      • candice says:

Agree. Fortunately for the baby, it takes what it needs first and she gets whatever is leftover. May help retain her figure but she will pay for it in the end when she gets osteoporosis and other medical problems.

      • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

        @ India Andrews

I agree. Even Supermodes made some adjustments to their clothes.

Though my suspicion is that this pink coat is a “second coat” which has been fitted for her pregnancy.

        @ Sarah
Royals are paid for being ideals. They are supposed to be.
So Kate’s extreme exercise routine and dieting are worrying. And yes, pregnant Kate seems to be as slim as a pregnant Supermodel who do diet like crazy. It is plain not healthy. And putting “not healthy” into the newspapers as an ideal is plain disgusting.

Kate’s extreme weight loss before her marriage had been discussed extensively.

      • FLORC says:

        India
It happens. Some women just don’t get that big.

        Sarah
Kate is heavily compensated for her role in the BRF.
And if you want to see illness while pregnant look Kate Hudson is a great example.
When you’re sick you don’t just have trouble gaining weight. You also lose muscle mass. Her body was no in trauma so she likely wasn’t that sick.

    • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

      Two coats perhaps?

  11. Deedee says:

The relationship between Kate and her hair seems more warm and affectionate than the relationship between Kate and William.

    • ilovesunnydaze says:

Yes she got knocked up by her hair.

    • FLORC says:

They’re not very touchy in public. It’s very rare to see them even hold hands. Even around other royal couples that are.

And hair can’t knock you up. Funny enough though you don’t have to even have physical contact with another to get pregnant. That’s a can of worms though.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

Oh! So it’s an immaculate conception then?

      • FLORC says:

My mistake. The only ways Kate could have conceived her child was having a deeper bond with him than her hair or immaculate conception.
        smh
And my mistake engaging. I withdraw from this.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

Get a sense of humour! I’m only kidding around.

      • LAK says:

Ilovesunnydaze: Florc is not a native English speaker such that she doesn’t always pick up jokes/Sarcasm. She’s said this several times. Please don’t be rude if she doesn’t pick up on it. She’s certainly never rude and strives to make herself understood at all times. Politely.

      • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

        @ Florc

        Jokes. Humour. Satire.

        RELAX.

        @ LAK
I disagree with your last two sentences.

      • bluhare says:

DANAD: FLORC has said many times she has trouble discerning satire/sarcasm. You don’t have to be rude about it. She’s the first to say “oops” when she doesn’t get it.

And she is not rude. Her posts have a certain syntax, it’s true, and some of that is because she sometimes runs them through a translator. As LAK said, English is not her first language. Greek is, and she had to not only had to learn another language but an alphabet too. Matter of fact, I have huge respect for all our non-native language posters. Some of them are so good, you don’t know until they tell you. And I especially give props to people who’ve learnt another alphabet on top of the language.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

Lak, why do you feel it necessary to come to Florcs defense when she is more than capable of defending herself? I dont buy the English excuse either! Lets be adults here and not revert to high school behaviour.

      • bluhare says:

FLORC is capable of defending herself. So is LAK. But it is also nice to know others have your back, isn’t it? You and the other poster are fairly new here, so perhaps we felt some context might be nice for you. Excuse me if I was incorrect. And also excuse me if I’m reverting to high school behavior for inserting myself into the conversation. 😛

      • FLORC says:

        Bluhare
Thanks. I reread the comments sunnydaze made and compared to other ones. I think it’s a half joke.
I do greatly appreciate posters coming to my defense here.

And I can get a little rude. We all can have our moments 😉

        Sunnydaze
It’s true. English is not my native tongue and sometimes here i’ll get lazy and use a translating app. At times things will just not translate well. Languages are a hobby of mine and i’ve lived abroad.
I have a feeling you and I will likely never see eye to eye on these topics.

If LAK or Bluhare want to restate knowledge i’ve proven to them they can.
This is a public conversation on a public forum.
For future reference at times my sentence structure and spelling can appear unorganized. My grasp of sarcasm is weak. And my posts can be quite long because i’m trying to rephrase a point to where it can be understood.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

        Spare me!

    • India Andrews says:

      Lmao. True.

  12. Micki says:

I like her coat AND the buttons. Won’t wear it in this colour but I think it’s a custom for the Royals to wear bright colours

  13. pleaseicu says:

I actually like the coat and the color. The return of the sausage curls bugs me more than the coat does.

    • vava says:

Granted, I didn’t like when she wore it to the WTC Memorial in New York, but her hairstyle then was superior to this dolly curl mess she wore yesterday.

A side note, from the media reports it sounds as if not everyone was impressed by their visit. Some of the kids were quoted about their negative impression of these two.

      • candice says:

I read that too. I’ve also noticed on previous occasions much younger kids – too young to verbalize – have reacted in a similar fashion when they sense the apathy from these two.

  14. HoustonGrl says:

She has like 8 people’s hair on her head and it looks totally ridiculous.

    • md1979 says:

That’s normal for a pregnant woman.

“Normally, about 85 to 95 percent of the hair on your head is growing and the other 5 to 15 percent is in a resting stage. After the resting period, this hair falls out — often while you’re brushing or shampooing it — and is replaced by new growth. An average woman sheds about 100 hairs a day.

During pregnancy, increased levels of estrogen prolong the growing stage. There are fewer hairs in the resting stage and fewer falling out each day, so you have thicker, more luxuriant tresses.”

      • HoustonGrl says:

I know about pregnancy hair. This is not pregnancy hair.

      • FLORC says:

        md
While your info is fairly correct it’s wrong in this case.
Search because pics won’t post. early dating photos of Kate. Kate Feathers in Hair are decent. Her hair thickness naturally is on par with her sisters and mothers.

        LAK
You are She who can see what could not be unseen originally. I’ll look again. I only glance to see the telltale signs that show up after she plays with it enough.

    • LAK says:

The wiglet is really back combed today.

      • LAK says:

Florc: when her hair is suspiciously thicker after only a couple of days, i’m immediately suspicious. LOL.

Then I saw video feed courtesy of the news and the back combed wiglet fullness is amazing.

These pictures here are quite tame.

      • FLORC says:

Double backed and saw the video. Total wiglet!
I get suspicious too. Her hair just inflates!

      • vava says:

I didn’t see the wiglet, but I don’t doubt it. The hair seemed thicker today than just a few days ago. Maybe extensions? And maybe they irritate her scalp which is why she’s always massaging it with her fingers?

I wish I could see the obvious wiglet you guys see in the video! I need training in that area………

    • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

      @ Houston girl

I tend to agree that Kate’s hair isn’t entirely her own. It was unbelievably noticeable: just before her marriage she was photographed crossing a street in a black wrap dress and she had thin to average hair of average shoulder length. Then a few days later she steps out in THAT blue wrap dress during the press interview for her engagement having LONG and unbelievably THICK hair.
Nope, and her pregnancy hair is not her own – at least not all of it.

I don’t have a problem to believe that she lays off the fake tan and the hair dye during pregnancy. But I have no doubts she still wears a weave / wiglet / fake hair.

      PS:
Upon seeing that her roots aren’t even one inch long I think she might have NOT layed off the hair dye. She has been preggers for monthes now and her roots should be at least two or three inches.

  15. Wren33 says:

I like it. I doubt I would ever wear that color but it looks nice on her. I do wish she would wear her hair a bit shorter. I wonder if she keeps it long for William. Some guys have a fixation with long hair.

    • LAK says:

Please would you explain this fixation. I’ve heard this saying, and of course met some men who do seem to lurve long hair on women, but no one has ever given me a proper explanation why or what this fixation is.

      • Feeshalori says:

I know this is sexist, but long hair has long been associated with femininity and womanhood, and men claim to like running their hands through long lush locks. Even the fairy tales like Rapunzel always feature the heroine/damsel in distress with flowing tresses. Short hair is associated with power and liberation.

Of course, the length of your hair doesn’t characterize what you are or your personality. Many kick-ass women sport long hair i.e. Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn, while pixied-top ladies exude femininity and delicacy i.e. Audrey Hepburn. And I’m just giving a few examples of actresses and not your normal female. My niece is an assertive, successful lawyer with long blonde hair. I did say it was sexist.

      • LAK says:

        Thank you ladies.

Arthistorian: books are like diamonds to me. Thank you for wonderful addition to my library. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed all the books you recommended ages ago. Been meaning to tell you that for some years!!!!

      • ArtHistorian says:

        LAK,

I’m glad you liked them. I’m an obsessive bibliophile so I’m always throwing book recs at people. If I wasn’t an art historian I would be a Librarian! 😉

  16. wow says:

She wears her pregnancy so well. She’s glowing with happiness. Nice to see that considering she was so sick in the begining with both pregnancies.

    She looks lovely.

  17. angie says:

Here’s what I love the most about this site: for the fashion pix you always show the shoes. I love shoes.

  18. Jaded says:

Her hair looks ridiculous – I had a Chrissy doll that had hair like that when I was a little girl…you could actually pull it to make it grow longer. She totally needs to wind her hair back in now or at least stop with the wiglets and/or extensions.

  19. Citresse says:

At least she didn’t wear matching pink high heels with it during the tour of 9/11 memorial last December.

    • Hazel says:

Memory is a funny thing–she wore black hose &black shoes with the pink coat at the 9-11 Memorial. I had to double-check, because she could have worn pink shoes (although she rarely does, she tends to stick with black, navy, and nude).

Yes Diana tended to play with more colours re- her shoes and matching shoes with bows. But then it was the 80s – everything was big- colours, bows, hairstyles etc… I can remember the looks while dancing in clubs to Roxy Music.
In terms of coats, I wish the peasant look would make a return. I loved Diana’s blue coat she wore during xmas holidays 1981.

I love this. I would totally wear this (if I were 20 years younger)…but that green and black thing the woman behind her is wearing in the first pic is utterly tragic.

Laurie are you talking about Kate’s outfit?? Are you sure you mean 20 years younger? Unless you are 80, I think you mean 20 years older lol.

I think Catherine looks lovely in that beautiful pink coat. I think she has a signature style and I rather like it.

I’ll be glad when the weather warms and her minions can pack away all–or most–of her coats. I like to see her dresses; her coats bore me.
