Louis CK apologized to Sarah Palin & she was ‘sincerely humbled’

wenn22189729

I have no memory of this, but apparently in 2010, Louis CK got drunk on a plane and tweeted a bunch of obscene insults at and about Sarah Palin. The insults were so bad that Louis had to drop out of hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that year because all of the conservative media personalities were going to boycott the dinner if he stayed on as host. Well, Louis appeared on Howard Stern’s show yesterday, and he talked about running into Palin at the Saturday Night Live event a few months ago.

Louis CK’s side of the story was that Palin approached him but that she really didn’t know who he was. When he explained that he had once tweeted a lot of terrible things about her, he ended up apologizing, telling her: “I owe you an apology.” Louis told Stern that he never apologizes to anyone because “f–k anybody else who’s offended.” When Louis explained who he was to Palin, she told him, “Well, you’re a vile person.” But she apparently accepted his apology and invited him to go fishing with her in Alaska. Now here’s Palin’s version of how this happened:

Proving it’s never too late to say, “I’m sorry,” comedian Louis C.K. earned a warm response from former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin after apologizing to her for the vile things he Tweeted about her – almost five years ago.

“Maybe it surprises people, but I was sincerely humbled and appreciative,” Palin tells PEOPLE of her encounter with the comedian at the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special’s after-party in February. As Louis C.K. told the story to Howard Stern on Wednesday, Palin was with her nephew, Payton McCann, a young stand-up comic waiting tables by day, when she told the professional comedian, “My nephew told me I have to say hi to you and you’re the one guy I have to meet.”

Louis C.K. told Stern that he’s “never in a million years” apologized for any of his jokes before, but added that that night, “something came over me emotionally and I said, ‘Well, I owe you an apology.’ ”

That’s where Palin picks up the story: “I had to ask C.K. what it was he was apologizing for. …C.K. explained he’d said some things about me and was sorry, and went on with such a nice, humble apology. I laughed and said he didn’t need to apologize, for I hadn’t even heard it. Then I teased him that, ‘If you really did say nasty things about me, well, then you’re the only person to have ever said mean things about me, so for shame!’ ”

Palin says McCann, a “huge fan” of Louis C.K., subsequently sent her some of his material – “though Payton may have censored it before forwarding the bits” – and she found the Louie star to be a “very funny talent.” The conservative firebrand, who doesn’t often find anything redeeming about Hollywood, is now a fan – of more than Louis C.K.’s stand-up.

“I wish I could have spoken with him long. And again, I sincerely appreciated his unexpected and character-revealing apology,” she says. “I think he’s the only one in Hollywood who’s ever done that.”

And, the offer she made him at the party still stands: “Come fishing with me next time you’re in Alaska!” Maybe it’s a mutual affection. Louis C.K. says he’d do it “in a heartbeat.”

[From People]

Do you think she genuinely didn’t have any idea who Louis CK is? I mean, it’s not like he’s some esoteric, barely known comedian. Most people consider him to be one of the funniest people in the world right now. But sure, I’ll buy that Palin didn’t really have a clue and that he really did apologize to her and she accepted it with grace.

Incidentally, after Louis told Stern that story, the two of them talked about how much fun it would be to go to bed with some of the conservative women they hate, like Palin and some of the Fox News ladies. Sounds like another round of apologies is in order.

oh god! it looks like she self-applied tanner for that event lol

    • mytbean says:

Aww… orange palms. For some reason this oversight makes me like her. 😀 She could also be overdosing on beta carotine. My Mom was orange once and that was the cause of it.

I only think it’s half genuine but she’s always come across to me as this naive, sheltered woman. I suspect she wears this persona so that she is more welcome and non-threatening to the boys in politics. Claiming not to know about LCK’s fits into this.

    • Christo says:

Yes, I totally obsessed over that hand photo after I got past my “awwww” to the apology. Rubber gloves are a must.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Why are her palms orange?

  3. Tracy says:

Wow, the self tanner staining the palm of her hand. Just wow.

    • taterho says:

CK just got material for his next stand up. I honestly can see him going on and on about apologizing to Sarah Palin and getting pissed because she got self tanner all over him.

      • Kitten says:

        It could be Cheez-It dust.

Lord knows I’ve made that mistake before….

      • taterho says:

She probably slapped a Dorito because it didn’t like her Ted Nugent collage.
Dern cheese snacks and their anti america rhetoric.

      • Kitten says:

“Keep your change, Dorito, we’ll keep our guns and our constitution”

  4. Cindy says:

    Her hand! Her hand! WTF?

  5. Nicole says:

He’s got a misogynist streak I really, really don’t like. Don’t like her one bit, but I’m glad he apologized.

    • PennyLane says:

Yeah, I keep hoping he’ll wake up one morning and realize that. It’s disappointing.

Louis CK and I actually went to the same high school together and we had a female principal – it’s not like he grew up without any strong female role models. Also Newton, Massachusetts is about as much of a liberal bubble as it gets – it’s all about human rights and equality and save Tibet and save the whales – so his misogyny has always been a bit of a mystery to me.

    • K says:

He clashed pretty heavily with his mother while he was zonked out of his mind as an adolescent.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I don’t think he has a misogynistic streak at all. I think he doesn’t hold back with making jokes about things that are very sensitive, but I actually see his humor as very progressive when it comes to women.

HIs episode called “So Did the Fat Lady” was incredibly forward thinking, talking about how society treats women, that I thought it was one of the most “pro-woman” things I saw all year and it was written by a man.

His female characters on his show constantly defy stereotypes about what women “should” be. There is no way he is a misogynist.

      • Anna says:

Louis CK is very misogynistic and sometimes his jokes really do cross the line.

I don’t think Palin is lying about not knowing who Louis CK is. A lot of people actually don’t. My parents (maybe my dad would now) and my sister have no idea who he is. They’ve maybe heard of him once but couldn’t recognize him or be able to say what he does.

  6. amp122076 says:

Is she wearing a wig? What a bizarre photo of her.

  7. Sea Dragon says:

She looks absolutely beautiful but for everything she chose to wear, accessories, purse, shoes and all. Blech.

    • Katija says:

During the campaign one of my friends was like, “I hate her, she’s ugly and crazy.” I was like, “maybe she’s crazy, but you cannot tell me that that is not a BEAUTIFUL woman.”

If I had to be in a room with Palin, we could keep it quite civil if we stuck to beauty talk. I’d love to know her tricks, she looks phenomenal for her age.

  8. Brasileira says:

I wouldn’t have known it was him either. Although I’ve heard his name many times, laughed a lot with some of his stuff, whenever I read something from him I have to check what he looks like again.

  9. lucy2 says:

“The conservative firebrand, who doesn’t often find anything redeeming about Hollywood” Except the fame, money, freebies, magazine covers…
They’ve never met a TV camera or reality show they didn’t like.

  10. Jayna says:

I can’t stand her, but I’m glad he apologized if he did say vile things.

Now to her outfit. Horrific, age inappropriate, cheap-looking outfit from head to toe. Her hair must really be thinning, as she’s been wearing those wigs and/or pieces for quite a while now.

The orange hand, how embarrassing. I did feel for her not noticing that. Can you imagine when she’s shaking someone’s hands at the event and transferring all that orange.

    • sills says:

I always thought she must have had good stylists during the campaign, cuz however idiotic I found her I confess she always looked really good.

Since then, though, she’s really lost it style-wise, with the weight loss, cheapo clothes, self-tanning mess, and (I think) plastic surgery. Yuk.

  11. Kiddo says:

“The conservative firebrand, who doesn’t often find anything redeeming about Hollywood”

I almost choked on this sentence. Palin wants entrance into the Hollywood corridors. She is nothing but theater, herself.

  12. MyCatLoves TV says:

I’m older so we wore pantyhose back in the day. It looks like she has hose on. Isn’t that a style no-no these days? Or has it changed back?

    • taterho says:

I think it’s “the norm” now to not wear hose.
I wouldn’t know. I wear hose and I also have bangs. I could get shanked at any moment.

      • lucy2 says:

LOL. If you pair all that with a Marchesa mullet dress and granny panties, you’ll get thrown into solitary.

  13. Cindy says:

Louis CK is so funny he’s hard to watch sometimes because I laugh so hard my face hurts. I think the bit about older people being wiser/more interesting than younger people because they have life experience, e.g. saw a dead guy floating in a hotel pool, took a bus to montreal, watched Nixon weep on tv and quit, etc..is one of the funniest things I may heard in my life.

That being said, he’s pretty intense, I wouldn’t want to meet him in person because I think he would scare me a little.

  14. tila says:

Interesting how nobody is picking up on the vile misogynistic things he actually said about Palin. I can’t stand the woman due to her wilful ignorance but trevor noah was ripped to shreds around here over his tweets…

  15. Rubber ducky says:

Always wash your hands after applying self tanner.
