The Rock posted a sweet message for his ‘amazing mom’ on Mother’s Day

I can’t resist an adorable story about Dwayne Johnson, especially when it involves his loyalty and admiration for the woman who brought his Rockness into the world. I know a lot of people think he’s too roidy and in-your-face, but he’s an awesome person. He also comes by his physique honestly. Johnson’s Instagram account is full of workout videos, and he detailed his diet for Muscle & Fitness. He eats around 5,165 calories per day, and it’s all healthy stuff. No wine allotment! At least he’s consistent about the plan and isn’t doing it for an Oscar campaign (yet).

Mother’s Day provided Johnson with an opportunity to show his softer side. He’s previously discussed how he grew up in poverty, and his mother worked so hard to keep a roof over the family’s head. Now Johnson treats his mother to a life of luxury, and she was overcome yesterday with contrasting memories. Johnson Instagrammed this photo of his crying mother with this emotional caption:

“Cool Mother’s Day story.. early am flight and I’m sittin’ across from my mom when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says ‘Son, I can’t believe the life I have.. grandma and grandpa would be so proud.’ I asked her, ‘Are you happy ma?’. Just then the flight attendant placed my moms breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, ‘Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me’. She bursts into tears and says ‘Yes, son I couldn’t be happier’. This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii ’cause we couldn’t afford the $180 per week rent.

“At this moment Im shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;) ’cause she just told me she’s happy. And y’all know when our parents tell us they’re happy, its so satisfying for us, ’cause it means we’ve done a good job for them as their kids. Happy Mother’s Day to all the deserving amazing mamas out there. And Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic. #EnjoyBreakfastMom #GratefulTears #TryNotCryInTheEggs”

If this was almost any other celebrity, I’d be throwing a side-eye at the whole affair. How dare he try to manipulate his audience with a sentimental story and photo, right? With Johnson, the whole story comes off as sincere and as a tribute to his mother. This guy honestly doesn’t have a dent anywhere in his armor. Other than in random pro wrestling forums, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who can say anything negative about him. This story is a nice alternative to the usual bad celebrity behavior.

I saw this on IG yesterday and thought it was so sweet! He really seems like a great guy, and that “TryNotToCryInTheEggs” hashtag made me laugh so hard. 🙂

      • Shambles says:

Right? He’s funny, too! It’s not fair. He’s incredible looking, sweet, and he has a great sense of humor.
If you haven’t already seen it, you should google “Dwayne Johnson Shake It Off.” You’re welcome 😉

    • JBC says:

Adding my honks! Love me some Rock!

    • Alex says:

Nah this is honest. He pens a tribute to his mom every Mother’s Day. I believe it was last year or the year before that he bought her the car she always dreamed of for the holiday and wrote a really sweet letter about it. It was super cute. Besides that he always talks about his mom in interviews so this is genuine.

    He is really great.

  9. Green Girl says:

I love that he seems so grateful for his good fortune and his life, and that he’s so happy to share with his mom. What a great guy. I agree that if this post came from just about any other celebrity, it would look like a brag and come across as insincere, but I really don’t get that feeling from The Rock. I think he’s genuinely proud of what he’s accomplished (as he should be!) and is happy that he can make his mom happy.

  10. Yoo Hoo says:

He is so much fun. Love him.

  11. Madpoe says:

    Awww! *Big Bear Hugs*

  12. Sharra55 says:

I just love the Rock. He is funny. Doesn’t take himself to seriously. Is so gorgeous. And loves his Mamma!

  13. lizzie says:

i follow him on instagram and he posts stuff like this all the time! it is heartwarming. the cynic in me knows that deep down it is all about branding b/c he pushes a lot of his projects constantly too but if his brand is awesome inspirational guy who takes his job seriously and loves his mom – i’m ok with that. i’m buying it.

  14. Beckysuz says:

I love him so much. What a sweetheart

  15. Mia4S says:

I adore him. He’s funny, seems grateful, and knows his niche. You don’t hear him whining about fame or bragging about his future Oscar. He knows what he’s good at and does it really well.

  16. Yeses says:

He seems so genuine and down to earth, love him!

  17. TessD says:

I met Dwayne while waiting for a table at a restaurant and he was just as sweet as you’d imagine asuperhero to be. He was with his (now ex) wife. Very attentive to her, very sweet to everyone around.

  18. Tiffany says:

No side eye from me. He had a throwback dancing with his Grandma awhile back that I was looking at while cutting onions. That box top fade was dope ;).

  19. MonicaQ says:

My friend grew up in Hawaii and he said he’s one of the sweetest people he’d ever met. I didn’t believe him until he was in Tampa touring for Monday Night Raw a few years ago and shyly asked for an autograph at Pollo Tropical and apologized for bothering him. That thousand watt smile is murder on TV and in real life and he said, “Don’t worry, it never gets old. I’m just thankful for it all.”

I think the only time I marked out harder was meeting Dan Marino and I came out the womb a Dolphins fan. He could’ve told me to beat it because he was out with his family but nope.

  20. INeedANap says:

He does seem like a genuinely good guy. And I am impressed at how he has always praised his ex-wife (and mother of his child) in the press while still gushing about his girlfriend. Class act all around.

  21. Bread and Circuses says:

    That’s genuinely misty-eye inducing, for sure. 🙂

  22. DaphneManners says:

    Is the Rock married?

He seems like he would be a fun person to have in one’s life.

  23. Jellybean says:

I love him. I love him. I love him.

  24. snowflake says:

    hello, honey!

  25. Miss M says:
