Above is Idina Menzel at the Billboard Music Awards last night, where she introduced Mariah Carey’s performance. I almost didn’t recognize her at first because she looks so different with lighter hair! Plus she’s lost weight. Idina, 43, is always pretty, but I really prefer her with darker hair. This look doesn’t suit her. The styling is throwing it off too. Indina is wearing custom Badgley Mischka which… goes with her 90s styling. I wish she would go back to brunette. Killer necklace though, it’s Efva Attling.
Here’s what Idina looked like at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. She’s much more striking as a brunette. It’s just hair though and she can always change it again.
I’m adding in a few more random Billboard Music Awards attendees here and we’ll have more fashion throughout the morning. First off we have Charli XCX in a vintage gown by an unknown designer. She doesn’t look as oddball as she has at past events, but she doesn’t look like she’s having fun either. Charli was nominated along with Iggy Azalea in several categories for their hit “Fancy,” which won for top rap song. I feel like “rap” should be in quotation marks there.
Jennette McCurdy was extra in a sparkly blue strapless mermaid style gown that was too much for this event. She also switched up her hair, going from blonde to darker, although she did it a few months ago. At least her former Sam & Cat costar Ariana Grande wasn’t there. Jennette has admitted that they butted heads on set but claims that their relationship was “misconstrued.” I got the impression that they can’t stand each other.
Estelle was in a lace Galia Lahav gown for the red carpet and she switched it up to a Amanda Wakeley vest and pants with a Bibhu Mohapatra belt for her performance. I liked her pantsuit for the performance much better than this gown. She did a medley of “Conqueror” and “You’re So Beautiful” from the show Empire along with stars Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray. Celine Dion was really working a green Thierry Mugler gown with a high thigh slit and a diagonal single strap. She looks incredible. This is just the right look for a music event.
Also in Thierry Mugler we have E!’s Giuliana Rancic. I am not liking her new hair, I think the extensions are bad, but I have to say that the dress is really cool. It’s a half mini, half long dress and somehow it works, maybe because the details are so subtle and understated. I’m a sucker for metallic piping.

Yeah, that hair is really bad. Why would you take one of your trademarks and alter it? Her dark hair is so much a part of what makes her special…and recognizable.

YES. She looks like a REAL HOUSEWIFE of anyplace, USA. The brunette hair complemented her features, whereas this ages her drastically.

She looks good either way, I feel like the blonde makes her skin talents a slight olive tone that she doesn’t have when her hair is dark. Or it could be makeup. Either way I like it.
Is it just me, or did anyone else immediately see Sandra Bernhard when looking at Idina’s new hair?
I’m seeing an older version of anna paquin. the natural brunette color is so much more flattering (in both cases, really).
That or Ariana Huffington.
I like her better with the darker hair, the lighter washes her out and makes her sadly unremarkable, if that makes any sense …

Upon closer inspection, I still think she looks like Erin , just older (which she is, so no surprise). I had no idea these two looked so similar facially.

The issue with Idina’s new blonde hair… is that you have to change everything, when you drastically alter your hair color. From the color of your foundation, to the color of your clothes. It all matters.
It is amazing how much the color of your hair alters the look of your skin. And Idina has not perfected her makeup game yet. It takes time to relearn how to do your face. It is hard to suddenly stop using colors, you have used for decades.
I went from brunette to dark auburn back when I was 20. (many years ago) And good grief… I never took into account, how much stuff I would have to change. All of the wonderful pink shades of clothes I had loved… were no longer my friend. Nor were most yellows. And I ended up with a new complete line of makeup… from powder, foundation, blush and lip stick colors.
Every once in awhile… I will see a bold pink sweater… that I love. But sadly, it does not love me and my auburn hair back.
Aye, I’m a very fair skinned brunette, and when I went white blonde this year, I was surprised at how much it changed my features. I like the way I look either way, but I definitely had to switch out some of typical products. The more neutral blonde definitely put more warmth in my features than my ash brown hair did.
I think Idina looks great as a dark blond; her skin color works with both dark and mid-light hair. The hair style though, was very dated…

Love her with the dark hair. It really complements her strong features. I’ve always thought she and Claudia Black looked fabulous with the dark hair and simple styling.
The blonde really makes her look a lot more bland.
My comments about G. Rancic didn’t post but I don’t think criticizing a random part of a dress is offensive so I will try again. That ensemble would be perfect, even the best one of all of the outfits worn yesterday, if not for that white strap. It annoys me so much and kind of ruins the whole look. It just looks like she forgot to put a better underwear and left a mismatched white bra under a stunning black dress. I can picture St. Vincent wearing it during a concert – it’s her style ( at least was when she was still her old glorious self). Elegant but with a convenient slit to press pedal buttons with her foot.
It’s more becoming than I’d expect on a woman of her features, though the dark hair is definitely more striking on her.
All of these dresses either bore or repulse me.
