Here are some photos from Tuesday’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Sicario, the cop/FBI drama starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. Cate Blanchett came out for the premiere, which was nice because I figured she would only hang around for her own promotional work for Carol. But I guess Cate came to Cannes to have fun, hang out and wear pretty clothes. I think Cate can wear pretty much anything, and I’m totally fine with this Armani Privé gown. It’s fine. It’s not groundbreaking and it’s not going to set the world on fire, but it’s pretty, flattering and beautifully detailed. Incidentally, many people believe Carol will earn Cate another Oscar nomination, so we will probably have another excellent Blanchett fashion show this awards season. Yay?
Doutzen Kroes in Dior – this is very similar to a Dior gown that Jennifer Lawrence wore a few years ago. Basically, Doutzen could do better.
Emily Blunt in Stella McCartney. I really like this. I’m surprised it’s by Stella because I really do enjoy this on Emily. I love the pop of green with her emerald earrings too.
Antonio Banderas and his girlfriend (?) Nicole Kempel. She sort of gives off a Melanie Griffith vibe, right?
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton Resort 2016 collection. I strongly suspect that Alicia just came to Cannes to spend time with her boyfriend Michael Fassbender. That makes my eye twitch. But this dress? This dress just bores me. The skirt layers look like a vinyl shower curtain on top of a white shower liner.
Petra Nemcova wants attention in this Zuhair Murad Spring 2015 Couture. I would have liked this more on A) someone else and B) without the belt.

Cate looks as refined, elegant & beautiful as always. That is a stunning dress. Armani really suits her understated elegance. Emily Blunt looks super elegant too

Ok so I googled to see other photos and the photo here is just a particularly awful one. She doesn’t looks as bad in others, but that dress is STILL not right for her.
I don’t get why in the world, when you have a problem-area like that, you’d put it on display.. it not flattering, even though the dress is beautiful.

I saw that, too, and am wondering if part of it is the way she’s standing? She looks like she’s leaning forward and the way her arm is flexed might be doing funky things. I wonder if it would look as bad if she had good posture?

I thought Petra was the Pretty Woman actress, who is a bit older and has had a few children. I have been thinking about this uber plunging neckline as a trend, and this clearly shows that it’s not a cut for everyone!
What is wrong with her chest area?? It looks crooked and saggy and bulbous. Not body shaming, but if my decolletage looked like that, I would never wear a low cut gown!!

Yup!! She completely missed an opportunity to make a splash. And if you’re going with an ugly dress, at least make it aggressively ugly and sell the hell out of it. This look as it is, is mildly unpleasant and completely forgettable.
She’s forced to wear ugly Louis Vuitton dresses because she has a contract with them.
I love Cate’s dress. She always does such a good job for dressing for the occasion. Here she’s still wearing something special enough for the Cannes red carpet, but it’s someone else’s film so she’s kept it simple and not done anything that might purposefully take attention away from the stars. 90% of the other attendee’s desperately need to take her cue.
I kind of like Emily’s dress, but it’s just not quite right. That’s the type of dress Tom Ford does perfectly. Stella just doesn’t have those skills. Those earrings are gorgeous though.
I like Emily’s whole look. Cate’s is nice, though I’m kind of surprised by all the dark, heavier looking dresses this year.
OMG Petra. NO. That dress might be pretty, but all your eye goes to is her exposed chest.
Let me see….. Cate looks fab, as always. I saw pics of that dress on the red carpet and it looked ‘meh’ but on her, it’s wow. Antonio’s girlfriend looks like she’s already overdoing the tox. Emily looks OK, but not amazing. Petra’s boobs…. oh my! Did she not look in the mirror before heading out? And what has she done to her face? She looks almost unrecognisable here. And there’s something unlikable about Alicia. I don’t know what it is…. she seems to exude arrogance, which is odd, given that she’s just another ‘up and coming’ actress who’s been ‘up and coming’ for about 5 years now.
Petra’s chest looks absolutely deformed! What’s up with that?
It kind of looks like she had large implants taken out and replaced with smaller ones, leaving excess skin. But I don’t remember if she ever had bigger boobs.
Ladies needs to stop with the too pale lipstick, especially if their make up is pale too. Look at Emily Blunt, it gives her the dry-lips effect!
I don’t really find Cate’s dress that beautiful, sure it’s nice and tailored well, but it’s also seriously boring. And too dark.
Why is Antonio wearing a ring on his wedding ring finger, and why does his girlfriend have a baby bump? Just my two cents, but, I am thinking we will be hearing some news pretty soon about these two!
I think the baby bump is just alcohol bloat from all the drinking they do together as they travel around. It doesn’t appear that she works since hooking on to him. She looks budget on the red carpet.

I say give her a break. She looks like she had to do everything on her own. It’s obvious he doesn’t shell out any money for someone to style his date. Cate looks amazing, but I would have loved that gown in a deep midnight blue to make it pop a little more. It’s a little meh in the black, but I love the style of the dress. Her hair and make-up are perfection.
Petra’s boob job with the wide space between was the wrong body for this dress. Very unflattering, and too full in the skirt. She’s a beautiful woman, though.

I thought Alicia’s outfit is at least interesting but she doesn’t quite pull it off. It might have worked in a different colour and without the white underskirt. Plus she doesn’t seem confident in it.
No idea what’s happening with that lady’s breasts but I’m a little tired of plunging v necklines. Great dress on Emily Blunt but her styling is off. She needs some colour on her lips.

That Stella McCartney dress is good because it’s basic. Anytime McCartney tries an actual design, she fails. I don’t know who’s worse, her or Marchesa.
Good to read Sicario is set to do well; Emily Blunt and BDT worked together on The Wolfman (the movie tanked but I liked the pairing). I need those earrings, Emily!
uh the reason the Stella dress looks nice is because it is a complete copy of other designers. the first designer to come to mind is michael kors and his multitudinous versions of this exact dress: shape fabric color.

Agree. The woman is beautiful, the dress is pretty, but both need some bling. That cuff looks silly, out of place, too casual. Fails the look.
I like Cate and Emily. Nemcova’s chest… I lile Alicia’s makeup,I think she has a beautiful face,but the dress,no. It’s a pity because her red carpets choices have always been interesting,but now with her LV contract.. Btw Alicia is the voice of the Ingrid Bergman documentary in competition.
