Is Charlize Theron being considered for a big part in ‘Fifty Shades Darker’?

Here are some amazing photos of Charlize Theron walking around LA earlier this week, looking badass. Can I just say? That sweater is the business. I’ve been looking for a designer ID for it, but I can’t find one. Give me a heads up if you can ID it! I like the way she’s just sort of casually carrying that Louis Vuitton purse too. My least favorite part? The booties.

Charlize is riding pretty high right now – Mad Max: Fury Road is a critical and financial success. Charlize not only got some of the best reviews of her career, but she’s only the central part in what is being called a feminist masterpiece. The feminist love for the film and for Charlize in particular has been remarkable. There’s even a Ryan Gosling-esque “Hey Girl” Feminist Mad Max Tumblr – go here to see. It will be interesting to see if a sequel gets made and what the studio involvement will be and if they dilute the feminism.

So with Charlize riding high these days, I’m sure she’s getting even more scripts and offers than ever before. One of those scripts might be… Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey. Just FYI: the sourcing on this report is really sketchy and Fifty Shades Darker doesn’t even have a real script yet, because E.L. James wanted to adapt the damn thing by herself and the studio’s compromise was getting her husband to “officially” adapt it.

According to the Venture Capital Post, Charlize Theron is being considered for the part of Elena Lincoln in Fifty Shades Darker. Lincoln, who also goes by Mrs. Robinson, is Christian Grey’s past dominant partner. She also just so happens to be Grey’s business partner and will likely come between Grey and his relationship with Anastasia Steele.

Along with the possibility of Academy Award winning Charlize Theron joining the cast, both Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have already agreed to reprise their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Furthermore, according to Venture Capital Post, Cara Delevingne is rumored to be set to play Leila Williams, another of Grey’s submissive partners.

Meanwhile, the character of Jack Hyde has yet to be filled. There is some speculation that either Jai Courtney or Henry Cavill might be up for the role. Hyde is Ana’s boss at the publishing company she works for, which is also owned by Grey. In the books, Hyde has plans for Ana, and his character might very well be the main antagonist in the coming film.

Henry Cavill should NOT touch this project. Neither should Charlize, although I think she might actually consider it and she would actually be good in the role of an ice-queen dom. I don’t think much of the sourcing, as I said, and I think this sounds more like a “let’s make up a rumor based on fans’ dream-casting” situation, which is par for the course when it comes to the FSOG franchise.

Charlize is too good for FSOG franchise.

    • Kitten says:

Anybody else think this is COMPLETE bullshit drummed up by the FSOG promotional machine?

I just can’t imagine that she would do this trash, especially at what is arguably the height of her career, when she could have almost any project of her choice.

      • Abbott says:

This sounds much like when they were leaking that Garrett Hedlund was being ‘considered’ for Christian Grey and he shot that down hella quick. This is EL’s dream casting; pretending the project is way more prestigious than it is.

      • loud noises says:

oh completely. like charlize would come a million feet within this movie.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Yeah, there’s no way she’d take this part. Loved her in “Mad Max” btw, and I’m normally not a huge fan of her acting.

  2. MisJes says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO! Don’t do it, Charlize!

  3. PunkyMomma says:

I see Charlize has mastered the Reese Witherspoon “pap pic w/large designer bag” walk.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

Truth. I really hate those ugly LV bags. They look like wallpaper you would see in a bad 70’s sitcom. She would look so much better if she dropped that Tool she’s dating.

  4. Heather says:

The age for Charlize doesn’t work for this role. “Mrs. Robinson” was a friend of Christian Grey’s mother which is played by Marcia Gay Harden who is 56. Charlize is 40. I could see Sharon Stone playing this role, but not Charlize.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Sharon Stone is a great idea (not that I’ve read the book, so I have no idea if she really fits the part – but I think she’d be fun).

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I’m sorry, hold it. Marcia Gay Harden is in this mess??? WHY??? I love her!

Uh, this is bs if only because of the phrasing “is being considered”. I think not. This is not a favor. The real news would be “OMFG Charlize T. is considering this mess”.

      • Tig says:

No reason not to keep loving her- she was in it briefly-and really loved her wardrobe for the part.

Good grief- Charlize is just gorgeous!

  5. InvaderTak says:

No no no. Dont go from the brilliance of mad max to the bs that isbfifty shades.

  6. Sisi says:

whatever. They used to throw big names at us for the casting of the first movie. Nobody wanted to do it, let alone be mentioned in the same article as the movie. I’v never seen actors so publicly say that they were “absolutely not, no way” being considered for a role. Eventually they started going down on the Hollywood ladder ,and probably end up with someone I’ve never heard of.

  7. ShinyGrenade says:

I want to knit that sweater, it is glorious.
    Mad Max was awesome.

Never read or see Fifty Shades. She is better than that…

  8. JENNA says:

Henry Cavill is above 50 shades of grey? Lol.

  9. serena says:

I can see her doing a pretty damn good job, even if it’s 50shades we’re talking about! So yeah, why not?

  10. FingerBinger says:

I don’t think Charlize will do it but you never know in this business. I was surprised the first film was able to get real actors like Marcia Gay Harden and Jennifer Ehle.

  11. Chaucer says:

I saw Mad Max and was not impressed at all. I am indifferent to the FSOG series for her. I’m still unhappy about her doing Dark Places.

  12. QQ says:

She can be considered from here to kingdom come the real question should be: Why Would Charlize Deign?? This franchise is TRASH

  13. Lucy says:

From Mad Max (still need to go see it) to 50 Shades Sh*ttier? Girl, please.

  14. grabbyhands says:

    God, this AGAIN??

Yes, the movie made money. But it is still considered a huge joke and the tiniest bit of legitimacy it had disappeared when Sam Taylor-Johnson announced she was leaving.

She is pretty much a bonfide A lister-she doesn’t need to waste time considering this dreck. I would also be shocked if Henry Cavill was a serious contender-he is part of a huge franchise now with the Superman role. He also doesn’t need the press.

Sounds like more of the same author wishful thinking/studio desperation for press and dignity. It will get plenty of attention but it will still be considered to be poorly written Twi-mommy porn by everyone else.

  15. Tara says:

Yeah this is just wishful thinking by the fans. There is no way Charlize would do it. She’s too good for that piece of crap.

Charlize always looks badass because she’s just a badass period. She is a strong intimidating woman and I’m glad people are now seeing that as badass instead of bitch. I loved her in Mad Max. She was the heart of the film. Like Tom Hardy said, there is no one like her who is exquisitely beautiful, tough as nails, but at the same time a character actor who disappears into her roles and has a wide emotional range and intensity with no vanity or narcissism whatsoever.

  16. Vee says:

I’ll say it. I read the books, was entertained and I liked the movie. For me and my friends, this was great girl time. Life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time.

  17. eulalie says:

If you take the four Mad Max movies as whole, the only consistent narrative thread is the character of Max, tourtured because he could not save his family, traveling the road, occasionally helping others. If they make more, it would not be consistent to have Charlize’s character in them. The ending of this movie implied as much. Any future movies may still be feminist, but I expect Max will be interacting with new characters.

Remember when people were saying that Ryan Gosling was going to do FSOG? Yeah. That’s what’s happening here with Charlize.
