Mike Huckabee: It’s ‘inherently wrong’ to force kids to interact with trans people

huck1

In the wake of the Duggar awfulness, several things happened all at once. One, people pointed out the utter, contemptible hypocrisy of their politics, which included Michelle Duggar’s 2014 robocalls equating trans people to pedophiles. Two, the Duggars’ big political cheerleader Mike Huckabee came out and publicly defended them, Josh specifically, without even saying even some cursory words of support to Josh’s many victims. Well, Buzzfeed and other outlets got their hands on a speech Mike Huckabee made just a few months ago (at the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville) in which he goes full-tilt against trans individuals. You can see some of the video here. Some selected comments from Huckabee:

“For those who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your 7-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man.”

“Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE,” said Huckabee. “I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’ You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn’t it?”

“And yet today we are the ones who are ridiculed and scorned because we point out the obvious,” he said.

“That there is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment. I’m not against anybody. I’d just like for somebody to bring their brain to work some day and not leave it on the bed stand when they show up to govern.”

[From Buzzfeed]

Some of the less arch-conservative members of the GOP realize that these kinds of “social issues” are no longer the vote-getters they once were. Ten years ago, Huckabee could have spewed this crap and it would have been where half the country was politically. But just on a political level, this doesn’t fly like it used to. Add to that the fact of Huckabee’s blatant and Duggar-specific hypocrisy, and it’s just pathetic. It’s like he’s very much making a conscious choice to support an admitted and confessed pedophile with multiple victims… while at the same time insinuating that children are going to be somehow “hurt” if society treats trans people with respect and dignity.

And Huckabee’s son tortured and killed a dog. So that speaks to Huckabee’s parenting, I’m pretty sure.

Okay, that’s it. BLAGH A FRASSER RI FUGING SUNMS! I have officially given up on humanity.

*fires up rocket launcher and heads for a universe in a completely different solar system than these weak ass excuses for humans*

    • doofus says:

Huckabee isn’t human, so don’t give up yet.

      • mimif says:

Is he Beezlebub in a protein suit?

      • doofus says:

I’m thinking he’s actually made up of all the dog-sh*t people have scraped off of their shoes over the years.

        in a protein suit.

    • Lama says:

Take me with you, mimif! I’ll bring the bourbon.

    • Nikki says:

Don’t go Mimi F: we need you on Celebitchy! It’s like fighting a zombie invasion, of stupidity and moronic blindness.

    • Kiddo says:

I’m bringing this Monty Python quote back from yesterday, it’s apropos:

So remember when your feeling very small and insecure how amazingly unlikely is your birth and pray that there intelligent life somewhere up in space cause there’s bugger all down here on Earth.

      • mimif says:

        +1 objet d’shrubbery

      • Kiddo says:

        You got all fancy schmancy.

      • Sixer says:

Aww. There’s a Harold Pinter interview somewhere in which he’d said something or other to complain about media culture and, of course, been utterly pilloried by the very same media (think Fox). Anyway, he’d got a load of letters from NORMAL people in support and he said he was sad and happy at the same time to get them because they demonstrated the shame, anger and frustration of an extraordinary proportion of the REAL people of the country.

There are lots of nice people. Never forget that.

Also, the LHC has begun smashing atoms again today. You can always go to http://www.higgshunters.org and help them find exotic particles. I did it for an hour earlier when I should have been working! And it certainly provides a diversion from wicked people shenanigans.

      • mimif says:

Sixer, I think my IQ just jettisoned up 10 points merely by clocking on that link. So cool.

      • Sixer says:

Mimif – all of those Zooniverse citizen science projects are supercool. You can watch the penguins and everything! The Sixlets spend hours upon hours doing stuff on that site.

I’m locking myself in my house with the cats and four cases of grapefruit Sculpin.

Let me know when people stop sucking.

      • Kiddo says:

I think that happens when you start tripping again.

      • mimif says:

Wth is grapefruit sculpin? You’re holding out on me!

ETA: I googled. Phew, I thought I was losing my edge on weed strains.

      • Kitten says:

‘Tis beer, m’lady, delicious, delicious beer.

Kiddo just reminded me that I still have some mushroom-laced PB cups too. Looks like I’ll be seeing you guys never.

      • kri says:

Yes, please, Kitten….what is grapefruit sculpin? It sounds awesome. I make my own cleaning products and I use grapefruit essential oils. I’m thinking that what you have maybe be a bit different.

      • Jenna says:

If I offer cases of homemade mead, a slightly deranged need to bake for other people and a husband who’s hobbies include brewing and chocolate work can we hide nearby too? These idiots are starting to scare me into serious hermitage desires.

    • ch2 says:

      I’m right there with you…

    • Sabrine says:

Huckabee needs to go away and stay there. He is so prejudiced and so against segments of society that don’t fit in with his twisted ideals. Thankfully, I think most people see him for what his is, a bigot and a hypocrite, standing beside his molester buddy there.

    • Bridget says:

I hate Mike Huckabee. I’m not a fan of his politics, but ever since he granted Maurice Clemmons clemency (despite the objections of EVERYONE involved) and tried to blame it on everyone but himself, I have truly despised him.

    • byland says:

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

  2. Damn says:

But it’s okay to forgive a pedophile who continued living in the same house where his sisters live who he molsted?
What a good Christian he is?!

    • MCraw says:

Ok wait, I’m confused. Was he an adult when he did this? I thought he was a kid himself? I never really read about the Duggers, they always creeped me out. But I thought he was like 13 or 14 when this happened right?

      • L says:

MCraw-it started when he was 14 and kept going on for several years until he was 17/18 years old.

Not that it matters. A 14 year old molesting a 5 year old is awful

      • bondbabe says:

Even as a kid, you would know (at least I would hope) that it wrong to molest someone.

      • MCraw says:

Ok I didn’t know that. I know it’s wrong no matter the circumstances, I just thought it was weird to call him a pedo when he was a kid himself. But he was older and continued to get older and doing this. I mean… DAMN!

I can’t imagine what those girls are feeling. My heart goes out to them.

      • Jenna says:

Doesn’t matter. A huge fight with my family started last week – to the point some serious decisions have to be made about continuing any contact with them – because I pointed out to my mom that my own older brother would have tossed himself in front of a trackertrailor before he touched me or any of our young cousins at 13. He found at at 12 about a friend being abused by her step-brother and went apeshit. Pushed and yelled and hollered until she got help and safety (makes me wonder to this day what would have happened if I hadn’t been to scared to talk to him myself) so… 13? Sorry. You know the difference between right and wrong. And your parents who find out damn well better too! (Sorry, the damn isn’t directed at you MCraw. It’s at the Duggers. Things are just a bit… fraught here at the moment and this mess is seriously up-heaving things I thought dealt with.)

      • Otaku Fairy says:

There are literally 10 and 11-year-olds who understand that it’s not ok to sexually violate or molest someone, least of all doing something like that to a little kid. So at 14, I definitely think someone is old enough to know better.

  3. Perfectly executed Chewbacca sound says:

“There is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment.”

Does he mean Quiverfull? Because I totally agree that Quiverfull is a twisted, failed social experiment that forces little children to be neglected and abused!! /sarcasm

    • BooBooLaRue says:

      co-sign

    • LadyMTL says:

Oh man, don’t even get me started on Quiverfull. I will rage until I get a migraine. Seriously, even one of my closest friends (who is a very conservative Christian) thinks that Quiverfull is batsh*t crazy.

Huckabee + Quiverfull = I need all the alcohol, now.

      • mimif says:

Sorry, Shambles and I drank it all over on the other Duggar post.

      • Jenna says:

Can I share my stash? I think I need one other drinker or my liver is never going to survive this mess. (some family aligns with the Duggers, Huckabee and Quiverfull. It’s been so MUCH fun…. god there needs to be a sarcasm font) I already killed off the whiskey and most of the vodka – but there is blue tequila in the cupboard, a lot of various fruit brandies and still the mead racks to work through. Help yourself… and the migraine meds are on the kitchen table in easy reach. Help yourself and pull up a cat. The hammock in right outside, the hot tub just got wineglass holders AND a booze bottle chiller. For maximum retreat from the crazy, grab a bottle, some of the massive amounts of comfort baking I’ve been doing and one of our giant 8 foot ‘poofs’ aka bean bag chairs for adult. This shit is gonna get a lot worse and without a codrinker I may well drown.

    • I Choose Me says:

Boomshakala! I wish there was a love button for this comment.

  4. aims says:

But it’s ok to subject kids to a child molester? !

This group of people are the worst. Total nut job, the lot of them. Please tell me that they’re the minority and us sane people are the majority.

  5. Jen43 says:

No, Mike, it is inherently wrong to not teach your children tolerance. Even God is side eyeing you.

    • Saks says:

This. I come from a Catholic family in a very Catholic country, but my grandma (the head of our family) taught us that our religion teaches to love and help each other.

This guy reminds me of an old lady who once told me, I wasn’t a true Catholic because I support gay marriage.

I do get mad when I hear these ass….. trying to find some kind of justification in religion, for their lame and embarrasing actions and ignorant statements.

  6. QQ says:

This guy needs to eat an entire bag of Fresh D!cks, I do kind of Love the flameout he too on his FB from his own “supporters” about some crap policy question he was asking and everyone pretty much said: Don’t worry About It Duggar Supporter You aint gonna be president

  7. Falula says:

MIKE HUCKABEE, you are HUMAN GARBAGE. YOU are Inherently Wrong. GO AWAY.

Jesus. I can’t believe I live in this world.

  8. Amy says:

Do you know how delusional and filled with hate and shame you have to be to make speeches like this and then protect a child molester?

I saw people ask how our country became so divided and I think things like this are perfect examples.

Mike basically declared war on people who haven’t hurt anyone, are already vulnerable, and are just trying to find some happiness and he attacks them and mocks them and then coddles a child molester.

He sticks his fingers deep in his ears and screams “JESUS IS LOVE!” when anyone tries to call him out on the hypocrisy. THAT is why there’s a political divide in this country, because not only would I not vote for this man I don’t want him or anything he stands for to be in ANY position of power.

Look at that ‘officer’ Jim Bob took his son too. I’m sure he checked all the right boxes for him, maybe another good Christian man who prayed away all his sins against children. Water seeks its own level and Josh Duggar is friends with a lot of prominent conservative folks. Gag.

  9. Erinn says:

I went on a rant about this this morning.

I can’t comprehend how someone can go on about how great a KNOWN child molester is while saying things like ‘the gays and transgendered folks are just here to molest our kids’. It just doesn’t compute with me.

I loathe this man, and everyone like him.

You have different ideas on how things should be run? Sure. I’ll listen to them. But practice what you preach. If you want to preach good ol’ christian values – live like that. Don’t support molesters. Don’t cover up your piece of shit sons animal torture. Don’t do the things that are supposedly looked down upon by God, and think you have the right to dictate to people who are not hurting ANYONE that they’re going to hell.

  10. anniefannie says:

    But molesters get a pass….what a tool

  11. Bridget says:

You’d think he was gearing up to run for office with all this pandering going on.

Though nice job on adding in the “showing with the girls part” – yes Mike, you’re super masculine.

  12. ChatonMal says:

Don’t worry, these types are dying off.

    • mimif says:

No dude, the are breeding an army. I saw it on TLC.

      • Kiddo says:

What is the effectiveness of Raid on these infestations? Is there an organic solution?

      • mimif says:

I heard Neem oil when sprayed topically is an excellent asshole deterrent. As a bonus, side effects cause photosensitivity (this also works for aphids btw).

      • Kiddo says:

I love neem oil, except for that smell. All and all it doesn’t stink nearly as much as this situation, however.

  13. Nar says:

While I agree with everything said against Huckabee, I believe that last sentence about his parenting is one of the stupidest if not ignorant I’ve read. Bad people can come from good parenting and good people can come from bad parenting. Also, good and bad parenting is in a way, relative.

    • Falula says:

I totally agree – I think the disdain is more for Huckabee’s reaction, or lack thereof, to the incident.

    • Bridget says:

I disagree entirely with your assessment, as well as your grammar. Yes, bad people can come from good parenting, but there is a pretty deep chasm between that and a 17 year old who hung a dog (at a Boy Scout Camp, no less) who’s father helped cover up the incident. Is this really the hill you want to make your stand on?

      • Syko says:

        *whose

      • Bridget says:

Touche. Though in my defense, I got auto-corrected there 🙂

      • Nar says:

My not so excellent grammar could be due to the fact that english is my second language and either way I did my best expressing my statement. If the situation happened as you say, the father was absolutely wrong in covering for him but still he’s not at fault for the bad judgement his son exhibits, much less at 17. Yes, he is still underage but at 17 most of us know what we are doing and also know if it’s right or wrong. I dont care how the stance I took looks, it was an unnecessary statement.

      • doofus says:

covering it up was bad parenting. he should have turned him in.

to add, just like child molesters, people don’t just start abusing/torturing/killing animals at 17. they start small and go bigger. like, from a frog/mouse to yes, a dog.

so, this was likely going on all during Huck’s parenting. if his child is a sociopath, that’s not Huck’s fault, but it IS his fault that the son was able to do this (likely repeatedly) and not be punished for it. by covering it up for his son, it is essentially (albeit somewhat indirectly) condoning his actions.

    • Beth says:

If my son did that to a dog, I’d feel like a failure as a parent, it’s that simple.

    • Pina colada says:

+1 NAR. If there was a coverup then that’s a separate issue. But you can take all kinds of parenting classes and shower a child with love and support. But if the child is mentally ill or has some deep behavioral or emotional issues, that’s not within your control. It’s a very unfair statement to make.

  14. pleaseicu says:

Interacting with trans people is wrong but a child molester and parents who protect that child molester at the expense of the victims is worthy of defense? Mike Huckabee is walking rubbish.

  15. Vampi says:

His Christian “values” caused him to raise a kid who gets off on animal torture so, yeah.. Shut the fug up, Huck. You are scum…just like JimBob, Michelle, and Josh. Birds of a feather an all that. Scum.

  16. Lilacflowers says:

Apparently, Huckabee is unaware that ladies rooms have stalls with doors and we don’t share or greet one another. But he thinks pedophiles should be allowed access to kids so long as they’re white, Christian, conservative pedophiles, so he has a lot to learn

    • cheryl says:

I don’t why, but this is making me laugh. Such a grim morning for stories on CB today.

    • Lucrezia says:

I’m glad someone else bought this up. What on earth does he think happens in the ladies’ loo? What would he do if he ever encountered a unisex bathroom? Has he never been at a club/event where women have given up on the queue for the ladies’ and started using the men’s toilets?

  17. Who ARE these people? says:

It’s inherently wrong to force children to live with someone who abused them.

It’s inherently wrong to force children to remain silent about crimes committed against them.

It’s inherently wrong to force children to be raised by people like the Duggars and their ilk.

It’s inherently wrong to force children to take the blame for having been abused.

It’s inherently wrong to force children to feel shame about others’ shameful crimes against them.

Need I add it’s inherently wrong to support or vote for people like Mike Huckabee.

  18. Talie says:

I’ve read some of his speeches and he really does belong in 1955. He’s not of this time and he seems to be shocked that by any showing of tolerance.

  19. Lisa says:

We’re laughing because your logic is flawed, Fuckabee.

  20. Meatball says:

These people act like being gay or Trans is a contagious disease or something. They are just people trying to live their best and happiest life, just like everyone else. I mean they are basically saying we shouldn’t force our kids to interact with other people. Bubbles for everyone!!!

  21. Lauren says:

Ok I would really like to know which bathrooms he’s going to bc in none of the ones I’ve visited has anyone ‘greeted’ me. People mind their own business.

  22. kri says:

Huckabee spouts sh*t. The fact of the matter is that children are in danger from pedophiles. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing, and you can’t ID them based on appearance. I know I have said it before, but I will say it again til people like Mike STOP SPEAKING LIES. My molester was a well-respected FEMALE who was married to a well-off man and the mother of my best childhood friend. I don’t want anyone off their guard where their kids are concerned, but for him to say these things is crazy. Perhaps he should keep his eye on his own house. One never knows when the heir might get the urge to torture and kill one of God’s innocent creatures. Look to your own poison fruit, jerk.

    • Kiki says:

I will say this, whether people agree or disagree with it. It is people like Jim Bob and Michelle Dugger, their perverted son Josh Duggars, hypocrite of a politician Mick Huckabee (which btw… Will never be president of USA) and the rest of their brainwashed ” Christian” fans that made USA a laughing stock to the world and them along with their fore fathers who civil liberties like discrimination of every race so detrimental to USA and their spews of hatred is what made USA so far behind in the world.

So much for USA the greatest country in the world.

  23. Jaded says:

It is inherently wrong, Mike Huckabee, that you even have a platform from which to spout such a stupid and hateful screed.

And to quote the ever-brilliant and expressive mimif….”BLAGH A FRASSER RI FUGING SUNMS! ” which loosely translated means ‘the extent of my wrath knows no bounds and has left me foaming at the mouth, tearing my hair out and requiring a large shot of tequila with a beer chaser!’

  24. Anastasia says:

When my daughter was 7, she met several drag queens who were participating in a pageant. I’ll never forget her only comment after we left: “They were all SO PRETTY!”

She had no idea they were men. She just thought they were beautiful, glamorous, extra tall women.

    • lile says:

EXACTLY!!!!! It would take an adult to point out the difference to the child. THAT adult’s choice of words, expression, tone, etc. will set the stage for what the child thinks of the trans from that point forward. Hate breeds hate.

  25. Susie Q says:

I feel the same way about right leaning people who support people like Huckabee.

  26. bondbabe says:

What?!!! “…your 7-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man.”

Huh? I don’t imagine the “42-year-old [transgendered] man” in the women’s restroom will be standing there with his d!ck hanging out!!

And Huckleberry’s statement about if he told a coach he felt like a woman so he should go to the women’s shower? That’s a heterosexual man wanting to get his jollies by ogling naked women; you can’t just slap a dress on and declare yourself transgendered.

  27. Neners says:

It’s inherently wrong to have kids interact with the evangelical right.

  28. lucy2 says:

If he weren’t such a bigoted a-hole, I’d almost feel sorry for him. The world has changed, and he’s been left behind with his outdated, cruel, and pathetic ways.

    • lile says:

EXACTLY!!!! These old white farts scare me. Their desire to return to the days of old, where bigotry and hate ran rampant is downright frightening. I can’t understand why they are still around. Why haven’t the voters gotten rid of ALL of these relics yet???

  29. moo says:

Huckabee is a freaking LOONEY TUNE! He’s more concerned about a transgender person meeting up with some kid in a bathroom… like everyone strikes up conversations with complete strangers in a public bathroom – let alone a 7 year old ALONE in a public bathroom (call CPS if you see this happening…), to a child toucher??? Give me a F*&%$NG break!

  30. Marianne says:

Im pretty sure its inherently wrong to molest children, but then again a trans person minding their own business a bathroom is definitely way worse.

  31. funcakes says:

I always find it interesting when a politician become obsessed with another person’s sexuality. They claim to be protecting society but it makes me wonder if they’re a freak on leash.

Would love for Huck to be caught in a hotel with a hooker, leather and jello.

  32. lile says:

Huck is an idiot. What IS inherently wrong is to point out people’s PERSONAL differences to a young child, who has ingrained acceptance for all people, for the sole purpose of creating prejudicial ideas of ‘normalcy’ and guiding that innocent child’s mind into the world of bigotry and hate. THAT is what is inherently WRONG. Chances are, a child WOULD NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE a person was trans, unless an adult pointed it out. This is the legacy that Huck and his ilk want to pass on to our children. Bigotry, racism and complete intolerance towards all who are not white heterosexuals. Its time to move FORWARD and leave those behind who are stuck and filled with longing for a hate-filled past.

  33. BearcatLawyer says:

What has never ceased to amaze me about right wing nut jobs like Huckabee is how they moan and whine about governmental overreaching and the “nanny state” but nevertheless insist that government has a duty to legislate against things like equal treatment for LGBT people or transgender bathroom choice or abortion. The hypocrisy and inconsistency are mind-boggling to me. I just cannot imagine how one could live like this!
