Sarah Palin has coherent thoughts on the Duggars, Lena Dunham. Just kidding!

wenn22190830

This is where I hit the wall. This is my limit. Throughout the Duggar scandal, I’ve seen conservative Duggar apologists claiming that “no one” said anything about Lena Dunham when she wrote about her creepy, boundary-less, don’t-put-that-in-a-book relationship with her younger sister – go here to recap our coverage. The thing about it was that the backlash against Lena last year was HUGE and it still affects her public image. I for one go out of my way to avoid covering Lena, mostly because after that controversy, she went from “annoying famewhore” to “the kind of person who sensationalizes extremely intimate family-only stories as a way to shock and troll for attention.”

So, what happened? Why are we talking about Lena Dunham in the wake of the Duggar scandal? Sarah Palin is so glad you asked. Palin spat out another vile word salad about the Duggars, Dunham, the liberal media and so much more. I made some minor edits for space.

HEY LENA, WHY NOT LAUGH OFF EVERYONE’S SEXUAL “EXPERIMENTS” AS YOU HAUGHTILY ENJOY REWARDS FOR YOUR OWN PERVERSION? YOU PEDOPHILE, YOU

Radical liberals in media who have total control over public narratives are disgusting hypocrites, so says my daughter. Go get ’em, Bristol! I’m glad someone’s got the guts to call out these perverts. The intolerant left’s destructive personal intrusions and narrow-mindedness applied to their chosen targets are bad enough, but their double standards are beyond the pale.

I’m not defending the Duggar boy’s obvious wrongdoing over a decade ago. The main victim in any story like this isn’t the perpetrator, it’s the innocent ones so harmfully affected. I’m not an apologist for any sexual predator, but I’m sickened that the media gives their chosen ones a pass for any behavior as long as they share their leftwing politics. Case in point, they suggest Lena Dunham’s sexual assault on her sibling is cute, and she’s rewarded for it with fame and fortune. Meanwhile, they crucify another, along with an entire family.

The Duggar debate needs to shift from solely the boy’s obvious wrongdoing when he was 14 years old to now include:

1) The shocking, unethical leak of a private, legally protected counseling document by a politically motivated law enforcement official. Media – time to go after her or him for illegalities and for destroying the public’s trust in law enforcement.

2) The media’s hell-bent mission to go after the entire Duggar family for one member’s wrongdoing, while giving a total pass to perverted actions of someone like Lena Dunham – or any other leftwinger celeb caught doing awful things. Remember reports of the pedophile billionaire our former democrat president has been friends with and hung out with on the pedophile’s “orgy island” full of underage girls?

Such obvious double standards applied to equally relevant stories underestimate the wisdom of the public, discredit the press, and spit on the graves of every American who fought and died for the press’s freedom. I hate for anyone to go through this game liberals are allowed to play, relentlessly attacking on an uneven playing field until a conservative’s career, relationships, and reputation are destroyed. To the media’s targets I encourage, “Rise above by never claiming ‘victim’, tell the truth, and keep the faith!”

And, for what it’s worth, “Welcome to my world; believe me – what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”

[From Palin’s Facebook]

Palin emphasizes and re-emphasizes that “the Duggar boy” committed his crimes more than 10 years ago. Lena’s “crimes” were also committed more than a decade ago, so where is her free pass? And if Palin’s argument is that The Duggar Boy’s actions are no better or worse than Lena Dunham, whom she calls a pedophile, that means we’re free to call Josh Duggar a pedophile too, right? Right. Also: Palin’s argument about the “unethical leak” of the records. I seriously wish every single conservative wingnut would brush up on the Freedom of Information Act.

As for her argument about “the liberal media” – as I said, the Lena Dunham situation was analyzed to the hilt on every blog, liberal, conservative, gossip-oriented and otherwise. It was a difficult subject to cover and there were a wide range of interpretations. The main incident being referenced by conservatives – many of whom are gleefully obsessed with picking apart Dunham over literally everything and nothing – happened when Lena was seven years old and her sister was a baby. While that doesn’t make the story any less disturbing, a 7 year old (with stupid boundary issues and crappy hipster parents) acting that way is not the same as a 15 year old boy molesting one of his sisters for the seventh time while she sleeps.

Bristol Palin has some thoughts too – go here to read.

They are just Pissed because TLC was going to give Bristol a Polyogomy show when she got married but the “liberal” media busted him before the wedding and ruined it all. (joking)

Are we sure that’s not Todd in a wig?

Since she lost her looks I don’t really recognize her.

It was the plastic surgery that makes her almost unrecognizable now. But I guess since she makes her money by being a reality show type of “celebrity,” she felt the plastic surgery was necessary.

  2. PoppyAdair says:

She allegedly studied journalism. She should know about FOIA.

    BYE, FELICIA!

    • lucy2 says:

Small correction -“studied”. Don’t forget this was the person who couldn’t name a single news publication that she read, while RUNNING FOR VICE PRESIDENT OF THE US. I’m surprised her journalism diploma didn’t spontaneously combust in that moment.

    • doofus says:

and she studied for 7 years. at four different schools. for her four-year degree.

I’m betting “studying” wasn’t her strong point.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

Sarah, without the media, nobody would know who you are. But what really irks me, Sarah, is clods like you using the sexual assaults on the Duggar girls to grab media attention for themselves. You are victimizing them for your own purposes. Shut up!

As for Bristol, does that foul-mouthed bigot have an actual job yet? Or am I still paying for her son’s health care?

    • PhenomenalWoman says:

No, no job except trying to be the “conscience” of the country.

The Palins’ argument is fatally flawed for another reason: this wasn’t an isolated incident by Josh Duggar, they were repeated offenses against his sisters and the family friend. Also, the abuse didn’t just happen when the girls were asleep, there are reports of him doing it other times, like when he read to his siblings. This is not some “curious” little boy “playing house.” This was a 15 year old who knew better.

      • doofus says:

and it also wasn’t “one member’s wrong doing”…the parents ignored the abuse and covered it up!

    • holly hobby says:

How can we be paying for the Tripper’s health care when these ugly people are opposed to Obamacare? How many of these fools oppose Obamacare yet are secretly enrolled? Show of hands?

    • Insomniac says:

I find it really depressing that this country has become so politically polarized that even an issue like child molestation is something that folks use to try to score political points. Can these people just not bring themselves to say “That’s really horrible” without adding “…but those other guys do it too?” Good god.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Exactly, Insomniac! Left/right has NOTHING to do with this.

I really wish the conversation was more about how often abuse happens in the home, and how to handle the situation when the abuse is between children or family members.

I am so angry that there aren’t more productive conversations going on now that this issue has been raised in the public sphere.

      • Asiyah says:

For real, Insomniac. Depressing and disgusting.

      • Esmom says:

Apparently not. Good god is right.

      • Alicia Miller says:

        Agreed!

It angers me that politics is being brought into this. I don’t care if the Duggers are Republicans or Democrats – what Josh and the parents did was WRONG. I don’t know why everything has to be politicized. It almost feels like some people won’t support someone or feel sorry for someone unless they follow their political philosophy down the line.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Totally agree. Like it’s a game or contest. It’s sickening.

      • I Choose Me says:

E-freaking-xactly! I am not an American so I try to stay away from political talk and I will note that there are extremists on both sides but shouldn’t THIS be the one topic on which everyone can take a united stand. Child molestation is WRONG and inexcusable. End. of. discussion.

      • Christin says:

@I Choose Me – I’m with you 100%! Please don’t judge Americans by these wacks.

Her transcripts are so hard to read. I seriously struggled.

    • Alice says:

I don’t believe there’s any thinking involved when it comes to Sarah and her brood of hillbillies.

  6. Amy says:

Tbh Lena should have been dumped and condemned rather than many offering excuses and trying to explain and cutesy her actions since she was a prominent feminist.

I am not saying she’s worse btw. No clearly she’s just something conservatives are desperately tossing out in an effort to stop talking about pedophilia and the dirty little secret in their bunch. Lena is nothing compared to Josh. Josh is still around children and no one can guarantee he isn’t a. Currently molesting or b. Have more victims than what’s been mentioned.

No, my only comment is defending Lena properly came back to bite some people in the ass.

    • polonoscopy says:

You know, I really think that the Lena Dunham thing is not fair. She was 7. Pre-puberty, kids don’t understand sex and a lot of them have “boundary issues” and yes, a lot of parents don’t know how to deal with it. Have you ever heard Louis C.K’s old bit about how when his daughter was about 5 or 6 she was constantly playing with her vagina and he didn’t know how to handle it without body-shaming her? My old teacher once told me (when I was in my 20s) the hardest part of running the annual kindgaarten graduation is making sure the kids with skirts on don’t touch themselves in front of all the parents — because that’s what kids do. Kids touch vaginas without knowing what’s up. A 14, 15, 16, 17 year old? He knows.

      • Amy says:

17 yr old Lena masturbated in bed next to her 6 yr old sister and describes (in her book) how it felt having that young body next to her. Not defending Josh, but Lena Dunham is a big bag of gross in terms of whether her actions dipped into molestation.

      • enya says:

        Ewww. Ick. That’s horrifying.

      • pf says:

I’m not here to defend Lena Dunham but there is a 6 year age gap between her and her sister. So even if Lena was masturbating, her sister would have been 11 and not 6. But I do agree about the part polonoscopy said about kindergarteners. When I used to teach, I could not get over the fact that both boys and girls were constantly touching themselves, lifting their dresses, just doing inappropriate things. But that’s because at that age they don’t really understand their bodies.

      • Diana B says:

pf a 6 y/o gap when you are a teen means a whole different world. Some of Josh’s victims were only 3 or 4 years apart. That doesn’t make it any less wrong. Both Lena and Josh are disgusting people and I agree with Amy, anyone that defended pedo Lena is now paying the price.

      • Lilalis says:

RE: LD masturbating next to her younger sister. Imagine if that would have been a 17 years old boy mentioning this scenario casually in his biography(?). Just because LD is female it doesn’t become less creepy and wrong.

      • Amy says:

        @Pf

I went to check again and you’re right, I made the mistake and Lena’s sister was indeed 10.

I think my point still stands though. When we’re discussing how disappointed we are that this discussion in which something should be universally condemned is now being rationalized and excused due to political party I’d like for there to be some admittance that this happened recently on the liberal side as well and that I was disappointed because many seemed to make a concerted effort to refuse to comment or condemn Lena that are probably thoroughly trouncing Josh Duggar now.

I WANT this to be a non-political issue. I want people to condemn bad things without having to huddle up and decide whether to protect someone and take the blow for their party. I want this on the liberal and conservative side. Again I am not in anyway saying Lena is worse or Josh should be defended, I’m just saying this needs to be something we can all agree is horrible and condemn equally.

      • Livealot says:

@polo, you’re right and reminds me of the cutest story ONLY because I’m not a perv and her innocence made me chuckle: We were discussing some Disney character and the boss’ daughter walks in and flashes us her underwear with such glee because it was plastered with said Disney character. Hilarious but awful.

    • juney says:

I’m not sure we’ll ever know who is worse (bleh) to be honest. The thing that always creeped me out the most (have to disagree with Kaiser here) was Dunham’s passage on how she groomed her little sister to be dependent on her (something about giving sweets for kisses on the lips, telling her bad news). Who knows what *wasn’t* shared in the book because IIRC Grace never came out and really said she was OK with everything that happened.

With Josh and the huge (and disgustingly ongoing) coverup, we will definitely never know all that happened and his victims have been trotted out to defend him. So I amend my earlier statement and the Josh situation is worse.

      • Mila says:

he probably had more victims, we know in his case. but it doesnt matter. its not a competition.

    • jc126 says:

I couldn’t believe Lena Dunham wasn’t more widely condemned for what she did. I don’t remember all the details, but I remember that when it happened I resolved never to watch anything LD ever did. It was revolting.
I already was avoiding all things Duggar and will continue to do that. I would never watch a spin-off for any of them.

      • Amy says:

        Exactly.

I washed my hands clean of Dunham and have the same attitude for the Duggars except with more revulsion.

      • Alicia Miller says:

Same here. I am a young millennial feminist and people keep claiming that Lena Dunham ‘speaks for me”. No, no she doesn’t. I can’t stand her and don’t support her. I wish more people would have shunned her.

      • LadyJ says:

Yeah and now LD is in the latest Taylor Swift video. She’s disgusting…and yet still celebrated and “cool.” Not a fan of Sarah Palin but she’s got a point. And Josh Duggar is GROSS (not a fan of the family either.)

      • LizzyFizzy says:

I agree–they’re both horrible and really shouldn’t be on TV. Both abused their siblings and are getting politically-biased support for reasons that make no sense to me. I couldn’t believe it when some of my acquaintances twisted themselves into logic knots to defend Dunham. And if you haven’t seen Dunham’s father’s art, it’s easy to guess where some of her issues come from. They’re really twisted paintings of nude women: http://www.carrolldunham.net/paintings/

    • Alexis says:

Yeah Lena is awful and so is Josh. Once you’re a teen there’s no excuse for using your much-younger siblings for sexual gratification. They’re both pedophiles. Josh just had a more enabling and reinforcing environment. Though real talk, both had their groomed and scarred siblings speak out for them in the media, effectively re-victimizing them.

  9. mystified says:

The Duggars and Dunham are both really disturbing! True, it matters that Duggar was older when he did his crimes and is somewhat more accountable. What disturbs me about Dunham is that she wrote about it in her own book as an adult with apparently little shame. Both behaviors are absolutely appalling.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I don’t watch her show either.

    • Jules says:

      Agreed.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree – both situations are appalling! I’ve never understood why some just can’t admit that, and instead try to pardon one thing by bringing up something else bad.
Lena did get a LOT of bad press for all that, as Josh Duggar has (he is not the “Duggar Boy” now, he is a grown man) and she had to cancel a lot of shows on her dumb book tour. Frankly I think the professional backlash should have been more.
The main differences in the situations for me are 1) the way the Duggars covered it up, allowed it to continue, and then and now disregard the painful effects this had (and I’m sure continues to have) on the victims. I don’t know if the Dunhams were aware, or if they were, if they took any action. If they knew and ignored it, they’re just as bad. And 2) Lena and her family have not made it their life’s work to accuse innocent people of such crimes, actively campaign to take their rights away, and promote bigotry and hatred, all while knowing the real molester and pervert was under their own roof the whole time.

    • Asiyah says:

      Agreed, Mystified.

    • Jib says:

Dunham was masturbating when in the same bed with her sister when she was 17. She was actually older than Duggar. They both should have gotten thrown under the bus. Dunham got a pass.

    • Alicia Miller says:

      Agreed.

It angers me that Dunham gets a pass. Both her and the Duggers need to be thrown into orbit.

    • I Choose Me says:

True. Can’t look at Dunham now without feeling a little queasy and I will continue not watch her show.

  10. Crumpet says:

    The Douchekabobs have spoken.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

Somehow, I don’t think my uncle gave his life in wartime so that Josh Duggar could molest five year olds without facing public scrutiny. In fact, I think the First Amendment Freedom of the Press does carry some responsibility to cover the illicit activities of elected officials and their families. Jim-Bob was a member of the Arkansas legislature and sought other offices. Mike Huckabee was involved in the investigation of the case because he was governor and responsible for the actions of CHS. But I also doubt that Sarah has ever read the Bill of Rights or any other part of the Constitution of the United States or the Amendments.

    • Shambles says:

      + everything

    • Kiddo says:

I have to admit, though, that as much as I don’t like this family, I do feel sorry for the uncovering of the victims’ names. Now they are in the unenviable situation of having to defend their abuser. From what I understand, Fox News was the first to formally report them, but speculation was already rampant.

    • Alicia Miller says:

Why isn’t this reply at the top of the thread? Best post here.

  12. Deedee says:

Isnt that bristol’s dress? She has to style sense.

  13. marie says:

    Palin, sit down.

Now, they’re both disgusting people. I was honestly shocked she wasn’t thrown threw the media for weeks too. It’s the same crime, the same disgusting, destructive crime. The only difference is the sex of the perpetrators and abuse is abuse male or female.

    • MonicaQ says:

There’s always this weird disconnect with female sexual abuser and male ones. I have no idea why. Both are predators and both should, as my grandma says, “be put under the jail house.”

      • marie says:

Exactly, I feel like she got a pass because she’s a woman and a feminist and by branding abuse as “exploration” everyone turned a blind eye. Josh Dugger is gross and his parents are worse because they at worst allowed it or ignored it, but Lena wrote about being a predator in almost a boastful way then accused nay sayers of being closed minded or less progressive than she was.

It’s all wrong, the crimes are very much the same, but the punishment vastly different because of the difference in sex.

      • Veronica says:

That’s more a problem with our society and how we frame male and female sexuality. Men are supposed to always want or invite sex, whereas sex is something performed on women by men. It creates a social narrative where men are sexually assertive while women are sexually submissive, which, taken to its extreme, means that we have difficulty placing women in sexually abusive roles. It’s actually more of the reason Dunham might be given the slide than a “liberal agenda.”

      • Trillion says:

I didn’t read her book, but did she touch her sister? Because even though masturbating next to your little sister while she’s sleeping is definitely gross it’s not the same as sexually touching someone.

  14. doofus says:

lord, she’s tiresome. I hope she runs, as her performance in the debates will be glorious, and it might just bring Tina Fey back to SNL for a cameo.

    • Lilacflowers says:

She has to run, right? Isn’t there some rule that every registered Republican has to run for President this year? There seems to be an announcement a day.

      • doofus says:

the clown car occupants seem to multiply by the hour, don’t they?…

eh, she’s kind of like Trump…keep the speculation going to keep your name in the news.

      • lucy2 says:

It’s hilarious how many people who have NO chance are running again. It’s all about attention and money – and probably an excuse to get out of doing their current jobs so they can go off campaigning. Except for Palin, who doesn’t seem to have an actual job?

      • doofus says:

lucy2, even more delusional than the candidates that have no chance are their DONORS!

you’re a NJ-er, too, right? can you believe Christie thinks he has a shot? SMDH…

      • Lilacflowers says:

And Lincoln Chafee, who is running as a democrat but who is really a republican who got thrown out of the party because of a family feud with the Bushs.

  15. Anname says:

I think people are more angry about the Duggars because of the absolute hypocrisy of it all – they are convinced gay people and premarital sex (kissing even!) will destroy the world, yes?
Lena D has never pretended to be anything but who she is.

    • Kiddo says:

I don’t think there is any need to defend Lena’s actions. Lena has to do that herself. This is a classic politician’s move to spin a story on its axis. Lena has nothing to do with the Duggars and the Duggars have nothing to do with Lena.

      • Anname says:

Oh I am not defending her, that’s not my point at all. Palin is making the comparison, and I am saying you have to factor in the hypocritical nature of the Duggars when you look at the media coverage of this story. They are so self righteous and judgmental. With Lena D, that isn’t part of her story. So the public reaction is of course different (both awful, yes, but differing tones). Palin doesn’t make that distinction. To her it’s just liberal vs conservative.

      • Kiddo says:

Palin is using the opportunity for attention. She would happily join the Kardashians, if she could.

      • Shambles says:

        +1, smart

  16. Mzizkrizten says:

Josh and Lena are both gross. It’s also gross how people are jumping to defend this man. Has he even said the words ‘I’m sorry’ or is it all excuses and justification? This family needs to take their obvious cue from God to GTFO of the spotlight and focus on their family issues. Instead they’re granting interviews and shit. So many of my fellow Christians support them purely bc of their faith but honestly I doubt their faith is even real. They’re as contrived as those duck hunting people. In it for fame and attention. It’s ridiculous. I feel so bad for those girls for what happened to them and now that the whole world knows about their victimization and how it could be their fault and they even have to defend their brother. I wonder what kind of shit the husband s of these girls are giving them. You just know they’re as backwoods as the Duggar dad. He hand picked em, right?

  17. Vampi says:

Sarah Palin can go take a seat beside Huckabee and his animal torturing son.
So funny The Huckster is NOW trying to scrub the Duggs off his site…and it pleases me that I just KNOW he lies awake at night saying to himself “If I ever had a shred of chance (He didn’t) at being POTUS, I just blew it by backing these molesters”
GOOD! It couldn’t happen to a more deserving piece of

  18. Kitten says:

For people who keep asking why this horrific incident of molestation and incest is being politicized: THIS is why. Because the only people who seem to still defend, excuse and support this family are conservative, right-wing politicians and the Evangelical community. I would wager that irrespective of religion, almost every Moderate, Independent, Liberal, and even a fair amount of Libertarians condemn Josh, Michelle, and Jim Bob Duggar’s actions.

That, and the fact that Josh Duggar was being groomed for a long political career (guess what? not running as a Dem) before the sh*t hit the fan is why this issue gets politicized.

I wish we could all agree that these people are terrible but the truth is that public opinion still remains largely divided along political lines.

    • Amy says:

Yup and as much as I don’t agree with conserstives/Republicans on many of their values it also breaks my heart to see so many of their leaders and constituents turn a deaf ear to child molestation and pedophilia to bang on about God and the evil liberal media.

But in other ways I also think it reaffirms why that political party/section of the world is slowly dying out. How is someone who’s independent supposed to ever take a Republican/Conservative politician seriously when they can’t even say “This was wrong and this man deserves to go to prison”

Beyoncé sang a damn song about intimacy with her husband and Fuckabee couldn’t shut up about it but suddenly the Duggars are good people he’ll defend publicly and repeatedly? There is NO defense for this and in trying so hard to secure that conservative base loyalty the party has become a snake eating its own tail.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

“Beyoncé sang a damn song about intimacy with her husband and Fuckabee couldn’t shut up about it but suddenly the Duggars are good people he’ll defend publicly and repeatedly?”

Omigod, yes! I had forgotten about that, but there was a post on here a few months back with Mike Huckabee whining about how it’s ‘wrong’ for Beyoncé to sing about a sexual relationship with her husband and the dance moves/outfits of other pop stars he found too ‘pornographic’. He even said that the Obamas are ‘bad parents’ for letting their teens listen to her music and being okay with her. He specifically contrasted them with the Duggars, who he labelled as oh-so-wholesome. And even after this abuse story came out, he defended them. (shortly after taking the time to attack transgender people).

Just goes to prove what most of us already know: Just because someone believes in obligatory female sexual modesty and traditional gender roles does not mean they can rightfully claim any sort of moral high ground.

      • Kitten says:

Huckabee also wrote in his book that Jay Z is “arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object.”

Besides his weird obsession with Beyonce and Jay Z (like, what?) he seems to think that men have ownership of their wives and as such, can decide what we do with our bodies. Like this dude actually thinks that Beyoncé does things she doesn’t wanna do. Dude actually thinks that Jay Z is calling the shots in that relationship simply because he’s the only one with a d*ck.

    • Kiddo says:

This proves HOW POWERFUL the narrative of propaganda is.

  19. Mila says:

See this is the problem of those “us vs them” mentality in poltical discussion.

almost no one who publicly wrote about Dunham or Duggar cares about what happened they just attack them because they are from the opposite camp.

We shouldnt forget that Dunham attacks male comics for the very thing she does, she joked about “Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.” and she masturbated next to her sister even when Lena was older. that part often gets left out. And she bribed her sister to kiss her on the lips.
Dunham shouldnt be on the air anymore. And i am sure she wouldnt be if she was a male.

If Palin attack Dunham based on what she wrote i would agree but she is just using as a shield against an admitted molester.

Both Dunham and Duggar need to disappear from tv and they can start being better people by taking Palin with them.

    • Diana B says:

      This!

    • Harryg says:

      I agree.

    • Bobo says:

      Yep!

    • Asiyah says:

      Great points, Mila!

    • Otaku Fairy says:

I agree. I just found out about that other part of the Lena Dunham story today. The incident when she was only 7 could have been seen as not nearly as bad as what Josh did because we could have reasonably assumed that a little kid doesn’t know better. But as a teenager, she definitely knew better.

I don’t think the reason why Josh is catching a little bit more heat from some people than Lena did has to do with Lena being a liberal and a feminist, though. I think part of it is unfortunately because she’s a woman, (which it shouldn’t be, but for some reason some people have a harder time seeing women as horrible sexual predators than men).

But I also think that Josh’s behavior continued from ages 14-18, the fact that he had several victims, the way his parents covered it up, the way his parents, political/religious allies, and even victims rallied around to defend him, and the added bonus of the general sexism/homophobia/intolerance of his family, are all factors that make this case a little bit more frustrating for people.

  20. Isa says:

I used to find her amusing in a ridiculous kind of way. Now I seriously worry for her.

Every. Single. Time it’s always “but look at what the liberals/liberal media is doing!” Always trying to deflect.

    • Mila says:

true but Dunham used the same defense trying to spin it into “conservatives attacking a liberal woman” (which a lot of them did) but not aknowledging that a lot of feminists attacked her. mainly PoC while her support was mainly white.

      • Isa says:

I see, I didn’t follow the Lena Durham story too closely. Or if I did I don’t remember that aspect. That was stupid of her.

  21. NewWester says:

If John McCain had won the election Sarah Palin as Vice President would have been a “heartbeat” away from becoming leader of the United States. That is a rather scary thought

  22. lizzie says:

suggesting bristol palin has actual thoughts as opposed to incoherently farting from her mouth is really generous…

    • Otaku Fairy says:

She’s nothing but an intolerant, self-righteous puppet product of parental indoctrination, if you go by some of the things she’s spewed over the years. She’s one of my least favorite/most disliked celebrities.

  23. cheryl says:

    I have no words.
I wish she had no words.

  24. lisa says:

stop comparing victimizers and their victims

they can both be a holes

  25. BritaBae says:

She. Was. Almost. One. Very. Old. Man’s. Heartbeat. Away. From. Being. President.

Step it up America. Good God. We shouldn’t even have to know who she is.

    • lizzie says:

      +1

    • Jayna says:

It still gives me the shivers.

Anyone who has never watched the HBO movie Game Change, take my word for it, it’s a must-see behind the scenes of picking Sarah Palin as McCain’s VP based on the book Game Change. It is riveting, and the acting is brilliant.

      • doofus says:

Game Change was great. Actually made me pity Palin a bit, she was so out of her league…but then it was if she realized she was out of her league but didn’t care and got delusions of grandeur. Julianne Moore was fantastic.

      • SmellyCat says:

John McCain could have been president if not his choosing this idiot as a running mate.

    • Giddy says:

I will never forgive John McCain for foisting her on us.

      • holly hobby says:

Yup. His team sucked. Why did they pick her over Lieberman?

      • doofus says:

“Why did they pick her over Lieberman?”

my take is that they picked a woman, ANY woman, to appeal to the Hillary supporters that “lost” when Obama got the nomination. they figured they could capitalize on some (possibly bitter) Hillary voters, not realizing that people supported Hillary because she was an accomplished, intelligent woman who shared their views, not because she had a vagina.

the idea from the GOP was “get a woman, ANY woman, and we’ll take the Hillary voters from Obama’s side”. goes to show what the party leaders think of female voters.

  26. TEE JAY says:

Palin: “The intolerant left’s destructive personal intrusions and narrow-mindedness applied to their chosen targets are bad enough, but their double standards are beyond the pale.”

Substitute “right” for “left” in the above quote and that would be correct. Fixed it for her.

  27. KBeth says:

Palin is an incredibly stupid woman. Aside from that….what the hell is she wearing in the above photo’s? She looks absurd.

    • LaurieH says:

She’s “stupid”, but managed to be the governor of Alaska. While you…. well, we just don’t know, do we? I suppose we should assume from your post that you’re a NASA rocket scientist with a pHD in everything?

      • Neonscream says:

Oh come ON, how many of Palin’s utterly ignorant statements do you need to hear/read before it’s perfectly OK to judge her as thick as bricks?

As a VP candidate she couldn’t even answer questions that high school students would have covered easily.

      • KBeth says:

        Actually I just hold a masters not a PhD….
Palin has (publicly) proven her stupidity over an over again, I feel perfectly comfortable judging her.

  28. Jaded says:

Something tells me that this Duggar situation is the tip of the iceberg. In a religious society that forbids almost all touching between boys and girls until marriage, that demands women be subservient to their husbands and all men for that matter, that brainwashes young girls that their only role is to have babies and blindly obey the perverted rules of their church, there has to be a lot of inappropriate verging on illegal sexual stuff going on. Fathers with daughters, uncles with nieces, and yes, brothers with sisters. I predict there will be more nasty stuff that crawls out from under the Quiverfull rock.

  29. sarah says:

Re Lena Dunham: “To attribute sexual abuse to a seven-year-old is to attribute sexuality to a seven-year-old, which is cruel and invasive in any circumstances, no matter who that seven-year-old grew up to be.” – quote a I read recently. Lena Dunham isn’t a predator, no matter how much you dislike her tweets, her show, her chubby body or her politics. Let’s save our outrage for real predators and let’s stop being intellectually dishonest by comparing her to predators.

    • Jib says:

Her behavior with her sister went on until she was 17. Not a child. Actually, she was older than Duggar when he was finally stopped.

      • SmellyCat says:

When he/they say he stopped. This whole story is from him, and no one but the victims know the true extent of it.

      • Jib says:

@smellyCat, that’s true. Perhaps he, too, continued this until he was 17, as Dunham did. But my point is that we know she did stuff until 17, he supposedly stopped at 14 or 15, yet he gets all the pedophile labels/kill him/hang him/lock him up and throw away the key/take his kids, etc.

Double standard. That’s my point. And Dunham certainly WAS a predator.

      • Kitten says:

        OMFG
Dunham was seven. Truth Revolt initially misreported and then issued a correction.

This has been stated numerous times so please stop blatantly spreading lies, Jib.

You really need to find a different website if you want to defend Josh Duggar and other child molesters because the commenters here are smarter than you. You’re way in over your head. Also, if you’re gonna troll at least get your damn facts straight FFS.

      • Isadora says:

@Kitten afaik LD did something to her sister when she was 7 AND she masturbated next to her sleeping 10 year old sister when she was 17 and got off to the thoughts about the “young body” next to her. No misreport.

    • Neonscream says:

She described HERSELF as a predator. If you think it’s OK for a 17 year old to masturbate while lying in bed with a prepubescent child then I suggest you get therapy. Lots of it and soon.

      • Ankhel says:

When my older sister got a boyfriend in highscool, she came into my room one night and had sex with him. They were an armslength away from me. I was grossed out. Does that make her a pedofile, because I wasn’t old enough to have sex? No. It wasn’t really about me, I wasn’t touched, it was about the risk I guess. Lena Dunham is a nasty cow who enjoys the attention she gets when she tells not very shocking stories about herself and her sister in the most sexualized, risque way she can. She then gets to call those who critizise her reactionaries who persecute her for her political views etc. Lots and lots of drama and pr, which she thrives on. She is nasty and calculating, but I’m not convinced she’s a pedophile. The Duggar story IS different.

  30. Lizzieb says:

Re: Game Change; yes, it is absolutely riveting. Sarah Palin is a fright-fest. That she was almost one step away from the President is indeed scary.

  31. holly hobby says:

Ok Sarah, I guess you won’t have a problem with the chinless duggar being in the same room with Piper Palin while she sleeps…

    • doofus says:

seriously…I want to ask everyone who is defending him if they’d let their daughter sit on Josh’s lap, or let Josh babysit, or allow them to sleep in the same room…

…and apparently, since it’s no big deal and God will forgive, how they’d feel if Josh had touched their daughter, “ONLY” on top of their clothes…well, it’s no big deal, right? at least he didn’t rape them? and he deserves forgiveness, right, for touching your children, repeatedly, while they sleep? right? RIGHT?….

or, along the same lines…would you be so forgiving of him if he weren’t A) Caucasian, or B) a “Christian”? if this were a dark-skinned Muslim (or Jew, or atheist), would you still say “he was just a kid, he deserves forgiveness”?

  32. belle de jour says:

As a liberal feminist myself, I would assure anyone that Ms. Dunham does not stand as my mouthpiece, my standard bearer or my representative.

Yet it is the right wingnuts – not many of us libs -for whom it is convenient to turn her into all of these things – as well as both a symbol and a foil.

This is simplistic deflection at its most banal.

(Speaking of banal observations: Sarah Palin reminds me of the animatronics I saw in a hideous theme restaurant once; moose and trouts mounted on the walls, equipped with motion detectors, who would wiggle, blink, and break out in recorded comments whenever anyone walked past them.)

    • Kitten says:

“As a liberal feminist myself, I would assure anyone that Ms. Dunham does not stand as my mouthpiece”

Agreed but she’s not a politician, she doesn’t have any political career to speak of. She’s just an annoying actress who happens to self-identify as a liberal feminist, hardly an anomaly in Hollywood.

I agree with your comment completely though.

      • belle de jour says:

Oh, I don’t think she tries *to politicize herself* per se so much as it is the wingnuts who are attempting *to politicize her* by default – especially in using her as a symbol and a decoy target – which conveniently fits their agenda for deflecting focus in The Great Duggar Buggar Denial Debate.

Have never seen her show; have only read some of her wretched comments and excerpts, and have observed some of the media fawn over her, as well as what they cite. It cracks me up that she’s sort of a go-to ‘feminist’ poster girl/spokesmodel at the moment.

As far as tough, funny, intelligent liberal broads go, my tastes run a lot more subtle, artful & subversive.

  33. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I’m actually glad Sarah Palin resurfaces every so often to remind the country that THIS is the type of person the Republicans want in higher office.

  34. Narek says:

The “ATURD” beside Palin in the top photo really says it all.

  35. Kiyoshigirl says:

I’m an equal opportunity hater… Josh Duggar is a freak and Lena Dunham is creepy. Neither one’s actions makes the others better or worse. Both have used the word “experimenting” to describe their actions. Both are adept at making excuses. We’re all in pretty sad shape when we compare creeps to freaks and try to decide which one is better. Only one thing is clear. Sara Palin has no place in this dialogue and why are we giving her any attention at all????

  36. Christin says:

    Her closing is hilarious —

To the media’s targets I encourage, “Rise above by never claiming ‘victim’, tell the truth, and keep the faith!”

And, for what it’s worth, “Welcome to my world; believe me – what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”

So, in the end, it’s all about HER. And she never claimed to be a victim, or let people view her as a victim of that evil leftie media? That’s rich, Sarah.

  37. LAK says:

I’m still amazed this illerate, incurious, bigoted ingrate was a presidential candidate.

  38. Nikki L. says:

Does anyone care what she thinks? She was a pariah of a VP candidate. Why do people give her attention?

  39. Nibbi says:

I honestly suspect that a ghostwriter penned that diatribe… it’s got too much subject-verb agreement and and normal punctuation compared with her usual.

  40. wolfpup says:

I hope now that all children forever stop playing doctor. And there are *millions* (or more) of them that have and do! Damned dumb parents, anyways…children need to understand criminal law, after all!
