Iggy Azalea won’t perform at Pittsburgh Pride after protests by LGBT groups

Iggy Azalea

These photos are all of Iggy Azalea over the past week. She’s been relaxing, riding horses and pampering herself at salons and dermatology clinics. The Mail thinks Iggy’s having more work done (in addition to her recent plastic surgery). I think she’s probably had some dermabrasion, no big deal.

Iggy’s enjoying her newfound downtime after cancelling her arena tour. Iggy tried to explain the situation as her decision because “I just feel I deserve a break.” She also wasn’t selling enough tickets to support an arena tour. After the cancellation, Iggy assured her followers that she’d still headline the Pittsburgh Pride parade (even though groups protested her presence because of her history of homophobic statements).

The Pittsburgh backlash grew. City Council President Bruce Klaus (the city’s first openly gay elected official) refused to attend Pride if Iggy headlined. Several LGBT-friendly groups cancelled their appearances too. Now Iggy has announced she will not perform at the parade:

I am truly disappointed that I have to share this news, but I will no longer be performing at Pittsburgh Pride on June 13th.

This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTIQA communities, however I feel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event.

I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character.

I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words. As an adult I would never use them because I understand they play a detrimental role in the fight for issues that I do truly believe in.

I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed & I wish all my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck.

I don’t believe that Iggy wrote this statement by herself. Her management has largely taken over her social media (for good reason). If it was up to Iggy, she’d have Tweeted something condescending like this. Good on Pittsburgh. Iggy really did tweet some terrible things. This NSFW-language gallery is worth clicking through. Iggy defends herself by saying she wasn’t an adult and didn’t know better. All of these tweets are dated 2010 or more recent, and she’s 25 now.

She’d better go shopping and get plastic surgery before she’s no longer a thing and the money dries up!

  2. Me too says:

Those glasses accentuate the bad plastic surgery. She may have gotten away with the new nose, but that knob that she added to her chin looks ridiculous. So unnecessary. Honey, love the features that god gave you.

  3. Amy says:

Is she crying in that first pic?

This being said, once more with feeling:

It’s 2015 and words have consequences. Once quiet groups are no longer willing to bite their tongue so that they won’t be punished. It’s not gonna fly to insult a group of people (in Iggy’s case homosexuals and POC) and then think you’ll be able to perform for them and they won’t remember what you truly thought of them.

This girl is a mess. I don’t know who managed her but they shouldn’t have tried to shove someone into the hip hop genre who had such a history of repeatedly insulting the crowd she’s trying to appeal to.

And didn’t she once claim that those statements weren’t even hers, that it was just Photoshop magic to make it appear those tweets were from her account? Now she’s acknowledging them but only under the guise of “young and dumb”. Gah this chick is so delusional and full of shizz. Just like all her backward talk after failing to win a Grammy; she quickly went from “all the backlash/criticism just comes with the territory of being successful but if that’s the price to pay for an award, I’ll sign that check” to “Well…psh…I didn’t want to win a Grammy anyway!”

      • Otaku Fairy says:

I think the comments that she says weren’t hers were comments that were coming out after those original ones, but I could be wrong about that.

  4. paola says:

She better invest her money in something good before she’s left with nothing.
She has no talent or humility. Ding dong the witch is (almost) dead.

  5. ZombieRick says:

Her apology sounded good to me. She seems like one of those people who can do no good no matter what on this site.

    • Shambles says:

Except she only apologized after a public backlash. She’s been tweeting offensive sh!t for years, but she’s just now apologizing because she’s just now being called out. It’s not that she can do no good, she just did/said a lot of idiotic things. And we talked about them.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

Her apology would probably be taken a little bit more seriously if she didn’t try to use the “I was just a kid” excuse to defend comments she made when she was 20 and 21. Why not say something more honest like “I was ignorant, more blind to my privilege, and more insensitive then.” That wouldn’t miraculously make the things she said okay, but it would at least show that she was taking full accountability, instead of it coming off like she was implying that people were just being mean by attacking her for comments she made as a kid.

    • HH says:

The apology would have merit with me if she didn’t have the audacity to defend herself when previously called out on her statements. Don’t be fooled. She continuously doubled down on her problematic remarks on numerous occasions. Iggy is now sorry because she is feeling the monetary consequences of her words. I’m doubtful her perspectives on these issues has changed; only her PR savvy has been updated.

    • oneshot says:

…except that it isn’t really hers? Back when she had her tantrum and ‘quit’ social media, she announced that all future tweeting etc would be done by her management, and only messages signed ‘IA’ were by her personally.

And I see no ‘IA’ anywhere in that twitter message, so no, that apology didn’t really come from her.

  6. aims says:

Gay men have impeccable taste, case in point.

  7. Dani says:

Holy crap what did she do to her face?!?!?!?!

  8. A.Key says:

Oh god what is happening to her face!! Turning into Michael Jackson in 3, 2, 1…

  9. QQ says:

Hahahaha NOBODY WANTS YOU AROUND BOOBOO, Stay Home with your money or something But don’t inflict your “rap Stylings” upon us anymore

  10. Penelope says:

Any relevance she ever had is fast slipping away. For her sake I hope she’s invested well.

  11. Wren says:

Ugh, she uses bit converters. If you can’t handle double reins you have no business riding with what appears to be a pelham. That’s all I got.

    • mimif says:

Ha, I totally wanted to rip her to shreds for her that but I wasn’t sure this wasn’t exactly the right forum for such discussion.

  12. tifzlan says:

    Honestly, i’m cackling.

  13. Jayna says:

Iggy didn’t write one word of that statement.

    • Cran says:

The statement is articulate. That is not an ability Iggy has shown herself to aspire to or possess.

  14. Gr8K8 says:

I’m from Pittsburgh and this sht has been all over our local news for months. Nobody here cares for her, and I say good riddance. Maybe this bad exposure will help her truly see the error of her ways, but I doubt it. Whatever.

  15. Rockin Robin says:

Zero sympathy for her. She has no talent and has said alot of awful things.

  16. Vampi says:

GOOD! We didn’t want her here! I’m gonna call my trans son and make sure he heard the good news!
And “I’m sorry to anyone I offended?”
    Did she really say that?
    Oh well…hahahahahaha! Bye! You fake, below-basic B!

  17. oneshot says:

In the old post about her quitting twitter, she clearly said that after that, unless a tweet was signed – IA, it was actually her management.

I see no IA here, so…….nice job, management.

  18. Jewbitch says:

    Her riding position needs work…
