Calvin Harris & Taylor Swift were loved up in Rhode Island for the holiday

In what has become an annual tradition for Taylor Swift, Tay-Tay hosted a giant party at her huge Rhode Island mansion for the 4th of July celebration. Taylor famously loves America’s Independence Day, and I think this is the third year (at least?) that she’s done a big shindig at her Rhode Island place. According to reports, Calvin Harris and Taylor arrived in Rhode Island on July 1, but I’m pretty sure Calvin had to work on the Fourth. But at least they got to have a few days to celebrate! Then Taylor’s girl squad came over, plus Ed Sheeran, and everybody got into the pool with some swan floaties.

Anyway, Calvin Harris & Taylor Swift have become increasingly more and more comfortable with putting their love all over social media. On July 2nd, Calvin posted the photo of Taylor at the grill with the message “She cooks too.” Which is sweet (and slightly patronizing, but mostly cute). Then Swifty posted the photo of Calvin giving her a piggyback ride with the message “Friendly relations between Scotland and America.” And of course Ed Sheeran was included on this Instagram extravaganza too – he came to Rhode Island for the party wearing a bright red coat (get it, redcoat?) and Taylor wrote “When Ed shows up in a red coat for the 4th of July because he just can’t let it go.”

So, is all of this impossibly cute? Of course. Does it make you want to be part of Swifty’s squad? Eh. I wouldn’t fit in with these people. I know that. But I do enjoy looking at the photos. I’m sort of surprised Kendrick Lamar wasn’t invited to Rhode Island this year.

+1. I’m feeling more of an “impossibly annoying” with a side of “makes me want to gag into my Cheerios” with just a dash of “it makes me roll my eyes when grown women simper” for good measure.

      • Tough Cookie says:

        LOL I <3 U, Shambles!!!

I was doing ok until I got to the jumping pic, then I snorted coffee out my nose.

What is that yellow tag on the sleeve of the red coat? My eyes are not focused enough yet to see it clearly.

      • I Choose Me says:

Lawd yes! The cutesy, it burns.

Methinks Swifty was born in the wrong era.

    • sars says:

Yup. I hate posing for my family to take photos. I can only imagine what having a friend like Swift would be like. It seems very fake to me and posey photos are the worst.

    • Diva says:

If I rolled my eyes any harder I’d pass out. Tryhards

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think my eyes are permanently stuck up in the back of my head. Help me.

  2. RobN says:

I have no doubt that people will have plenty of not very nice to say, just like last year’s party, but I think they’re a pretty cute couple and that party looks like a great time, even if the whole world does seem to need to document every single thing they do.

    • Loulou says:

Mostly seeing negative comments here, but it looks like a pretty good time to me! I would go to that party just for the pool.

      • Sabrine says:

Seem like a nice bunch. I would love to ride on one of those swans, looks like a lot of fun.

    • milla says:

the pics are from her Instagram. You do not have to look at them.
They are quite a good match, hope it lasts.

    • LA Juice says:

+1 love her. haters gonna hate….

  3. jessiebes says:

The photo’s of the pool are not included – but o my word, would I love to dive into that pool.

  4. Franca says:

This all looks so staged and not fun at all.

I wouldn’t fit in either. I don’t look like a model, hate having my picture taken and don’t talk about my feelimgs, which is all these people seem to do.

    • OhDear says:

That’s what I thought, too. I get that people these days like to document everything on social media, but the photos seem so posed (esp. the jumping one).

The property has a nice view, though.

    • Absolutely says:

It’s like a photo shoot for an article in a magazine.

    • platypus says:

I wonder if that’s the point, though? Highly publicized celebrity gathering = PR event. Of course it’s all staged and posed.

  5. NewWester says:

For some reason I am reminded of a Ralph Lauren ad when I look at those photos. Taylor and friends look like they are having fun for the camera, but I wonder how much fun they are really having when the camera is not taking pictures?

    • BengalCat2000 says:

I was coming here to say, if you don’t post your pics on social media then it didn’t happen. I spent the Fourth smoking pot with a 52 yr old man-child attorney friend. Wish I could post about that stupid bit of fun.

      • InvaderTak says:

Sounds like more fun than this. I spent mine drinking and trying out about a dozen ice cream/frozen yogurt/gelato flavors. No social media, no pictures. I’m Swifty’s age. I don’t get the obsession and am grateful for friends who don’t either. We had fun and the rest of the world will have to take it on faith.

      • Shambles says:

BengalCat, that sounds like a f@ckin’ awesome Fourth. Cheers.

      • BengalCat2000 says:

Lol! I find boring my friends with pics and adventure stories to be preferable to boring strangers. I just can’t bring myself to post pics on my Twitter account.

    • Sunsetsnow says:

Come on now, they are having a fantastic time! 10-15 minutes prep work for each photo and then 20 more to decide how wonderful they all look and which ones are the absolutest bestest to post.

      • GingerCrunch says:

That’s right. It’s how that generation has fun. Just imagine what their kids will come up with. smh, i’m old…

      • Sullivan says:

This is what they (models, actors, entertainers) do for a living, so prepping and posing for the camera is second nature to them. Maybe they keep the ‘real’ moments to themselves or maybe they don’t know what a ‘real’ moment is anymore.

      • Original T.C. says:

In addition to that, Swifty will want everyone to see her coupled up pics so when they break up and she does a blind-item song about the relationship, the public will have pics to help then decide the obvious events she is referring to in her song. Oh Swifty always covers all her money making bases. Guys that date her remind me of women who date men with bad relationship records thinking they will be the exception. Swifty’s men think they will be the one to escape the bad breakup song making it all their fault.

    • Lama Bean says:

Yes! I’ve been trying to put my finger on this for a while, but the Ralph Lauren/Tommy Hilfiger/Ambercrombie feeling of these photos is dead on.

      Calvin’s body though…..

      • Lauren says:

At least Calvin doesn’t act like he is ashamed to be with Taylor.
Taylor looks like a horny praying mantis, clinging to Calvin.
He doesn’t seem to mind at all.

      • Halvin Carris says:

Of course he doesn’t mind. His awareness on SM and the tabloid media has went through the roof. before they started “dating” no one heard of him unless you were into the EDM/rave scene. Now he’s everywhere in the media. He’s nothing but a fame whore that’s being pushed by Sony music. He’s supposed to be their new “it” artist. On the other side, Taylor finally found a “legit” muse for album #6. The break up-doomsday clock is ticking as we post.

    • M.A.F. says:

She does seem to do a throw back to the American designer ads of the late 90s. A lot of it is staged but I think that is all she knows now.

  6. Sullivan says:

Most people in the U.S. celebrated on July 4th and posted photos of it on their social media.

    • Isabelle says:

Nope most of us didn’t post pics on social media, some yes, most no. Seems in most groups its the same minority that constantly post pics & the rest couldn’t care less.

    • MAC says:

      Thanks Isabelle!

  7. Jackson says:

What is she grilling? Sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts?? Not judging, tho, because I’m a big veggie eater myself.

    • ncboudicca says:

      Sounds pretty good to me!

But I ate two hot dogs, some fried shrimp, tortilla chips and a giant helping of Ambrosia “salad” yesterday…*burp*

    • mia girl says:

I don’t think *she* is grilling anything.

I think after her chef finished the actual cooking, she walked up to the grill, picked up the tongs and snap!

      • Giddy says:

Exactly what I thought! That’s a grill that was organized by either a professional or a friend who loves to cook. After looking at the jumping picture I feel pretty sure that neither Taylor or her friends cook for fun.

  8. Alexandra says:

Why is no one calling her out about having such a public relationship? Didn’t she cry for two years saying she was sick of her love life being Americas favorite pastime? Maybe if she didn’t feel the need to document everything, I would believe they were having more fun. Everything looks so staged.

    • Julie says:

shh. Taylor said its misogynistic to talk about the very things she pushes in our faces!

      • The Original Mia says:

So true. Don’t say anything bad about Tay Tay being a big ol’ hypocrite or you’re a meanie hater.

    • Shambles says:

Hide, the posse of twee, statuesque blondes has been sent to find you…

  9. Catelina says:

    Her place looks really nice.

  10. Tig says:

I have no major beef about folks posting pics of parties- I can’t stand the constant postings of pics of day to day ordinary stuff- rolling out of bed, etc. I think I would totally fit in there with enough beer😃! Taylor looks to be having fun- good for her.

  11. Miss M says:

I think they will last. Both seem very clingy.

    Nice photos!

  12. OSTONE says:

I would love to have a beach house in Rhode Island.

  13. Eleonor says:

Call me crazy but to me that seems a nice pool party.

  14. InvaderTak says:

Ed Sheeran in a red coat is funny. The rest look staged as hell.

  15. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

I don’t know why he didn’t date the woman in his Summer video. She seemed nice.

  16. Julie says:

Please dont talk about my love life.

  17. JMS says:

Taylor seems very happy with Calvin. Good for her. They look great together.

    • Julie says:

yep. just like Taylor and that Twillight boy, just like Taylor and that One Direction Boy, just like Taylor and… its true they LOOK good together thats the whole and only point.

  18. Miko says:

Ed is funny. I’m not sure why he hangs out with The Scripted Blonde Giraffe and her chosen friends of the moment.

    • Lynnie says:

Because their fanbases intersect, she’s the hottest thing at the moment so his cred rises, and a whole bunch of other popularity-seeking reasons. I will say they seem like genuine friends though, so it’s a win-win for everybody.

  19. Bella says:

I like Taylor, but this relationship seems very contrived to me. I don’t buy it.

    • lisa2 says:

I always wondered how she got these guys. she seems so asexual to me. I just don’t see her being intimate with anyone..

Obviously that is not the case; but I just don’t see it.

      • Michelle says:

Totally agree with you. Taylor is very “vanilla.” Her style is very old lady-ish. I think maybe a part of it is that she tries to protect her image because she has a young fanbase, but even her body language never reads anything but pre-pubescent.

Looking @ pictures of Calvin and his ex Rita Ora make his relationship with Taylor even less feasible. He was very hands-on, touchy-feely with Rita and with Taylor, it seems like it’s just one giant photo op. They look like they’re on different wave lengths.

  20. cheryl says:

But is she young, famous, having famous friends, having matching resort towels, and in the patriotic spirit?

  21. Imo says:

If Rhode Island is the new Hamptons and Tay-Tay is the new Diddy then I am officially old.
I think this party photo album was staged to death and I think they also had a hell of a lot of fun.
At least there are no sketch father/daughter sultry bikini pics this year. Ugh.

  22. Tiffany says:

I am not surprised at all that Kendrick Lamar was not there. He is not the type of friends that she collects.

  23. Mona says:

Based on that last picture it seems that in order to become Tay Tay’s girlfriend one must fullfill the following: be relatively known, slim, tall, pretty and mostly white. Anyone else not need to apply…..

  24. Lynnie says:

Everything that could be said about this Calvin Klein photoset of a vacation has already been said, but I will ask a couple of things.

Why does she feel the need to posture, so much? What is the benefit of having this contrived relationship that will only blow up in her face when it inevitably ends? Why do people keep on falling for her tricks?

  25. Wifey says:

Wait…… WHAT?!?? This isn’t an editorial photo shoot from Seventeen Magazine?!?!?!! What is this sorcery?

  26. meh says:

Idk this just reminds me of the mean, cliquey “popular kids” in high school.

  27. Alyce says:

Everyone I know was posting pics all day yesterday too. It’s not unusual at all for some one her age.

  28. imstupid says:

Calvin is very hot. I’m very jealous.

    • Halvin Carris says:

Seriously? you need to get out more… Google his “before make over” photos from around 2006-2007. All he is, is that he’s tall. I’ll bet he’s really very insecure about his looks and bitchy if you cross him. AND you just know the break up music from these two is going to be epic though…….

  29. I don’t think I could be friends with someone like Taylor. I don’t understand why you have to document EVERYTHING and put it online. Especially during a party. It just seems like being her friend, you have to be perky and sweet and always ON. And it really seems like she’s a friend collector too… I wouldn’t even want to hang out with her.

And most people on my FB posted pics the day after 4th of July, and it was mainly fireworks.

    • Michelle says:

I have to agree with you. I do like Taylor and the message that she puts out there about supporting other women and not being a “hater” because there is so much cattiness between women so often, but everything she does is always so ridiculously contrived. I don’t mind the fact that everything is documented and put online, but I do mind that everything is so meticulously set up. It isn’t fun to be somewhere and have to worry about everyone setting up for photo ops. A lot of my friends post a lot of stuff on Instagram and Facebook, but it’s genuine photos, not something that it looks like it took 30 tries to get right. She has done a lot of stuff that I think is great, like hosting her fans at her apartment, standing up for a lot of artists with Apple Music, and she’s very good to her fans, but I would like to see her act more natural. Her mother has said that she didn’t have any friends growing up and I think that maybe she feels like she has to put on the way that she does.

Given the “big names” in the media right now that get the most attention, I would much rather see pictures of Taylor acting bland and taking pictures that look ridiculously put on than I would the alternative, which seems to be Kylie Jenner’s on going love affair with plastic surgery, daddy issues inspired slutty clothing, and pathetic relationship with a Z-list rapper.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

She talks about not being a hater and being supportive but then she publicly squabbles with others and criticizes them for not blindly supporting her. She has some qualities to recommend her but anybody who works this hard to sugarcoat their image is not somebody to look to as a role model.

    • Dvaria says:

for the last few years, my husband’s cousin’s wife puts up a miminum of 100 photos of every family get together on facebook and will snap photos of you eating, talking, sneezing, picking a wedgie getting out of the river etc and they’ll end up online but nothing bad of her or her kids is ever posted…I got so mad last time that I told her if she put up anything of me from the 4th this year I won’t be going to Christmas at Grandmas speciifically because she made me uncomfortable.

She avoided me all day yesterday but at least I won’t be tagged in a photo eating a hot dog again like last year that was mocked by a lot of her friends because it admittingly is a terrible photo if you have a dirty mind.

People need to just live in the moment anymore.

    • EricaV says:

She posted 8 pics over 3 days. Kinda disagree that’s “Documenting everything”…

  30. Heartsease says:

Fake fake fakery fake. Just go away.

  31. Aren says:

I just saw her Bad Blood video today at a restaurant, I can’t believe how dumb and pointless it was. It’s something I would’ve expected from a 90’s video, Are current video directors really that talentless and uncreative these days?

    • Tiffany says:

I still think it was a knockoff of Perry’s TGIF video. That one was star studded and story telling. We all know who the song is about and she wanted to throw in Katy’s face that she can get more ‘friends’ in her video.

Thanks Taylor for making me like Katy more. Damn you.

  32. Susan says:

Yes I am admittedly Generation X “old” but I cant do all the social media. I like my smart phone, I’m on Instagram but I prefer to live my life vs document it. We have toddlers, and my friends and family always ask for photos of kiddos but honestly I can either live in the moment or ruin it by trying to document it all. Maybe I’m slow but I can’t live it and photograph/video it.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

I’m 48, I’m on Facebook sometimes but that’s it. I don’t want to spend all my time on-line. I cherry pick what I want and pretty much ignore the rest. I have noticed that some of my friends and families have lost their shit when it comes to social media. It’s like electronic diarrhea and it’s not pretty. People need to have boundaries and recognize we don’t actually need to know where they are every second or what they’re eating or how they feel about it. It’s so incredibly BORING.

  33. Abby says:

I’ll be honest, I look forward to photos from Taylor’s 4th of July parties every year.

There. I said it. And I did laugh at the pic of Ed.

  34. Abby says:

Also, she posted a pic on IG of a Barefoot Contessa dessert she and her friends made for the 4th. It looks really yummy!

  35. thaisajs says:

Does Taylor have any overweight or unattractive female friends? Seems like she only hangs with super models. Or maybe those are the only people she puts photos of on Instagram?

    • I Choose Me says:

I think she’s friends with Lena Dunham. She’s deffo not the super model type. And I don’t consider Lena physically unattractive. Her personality on the other hand, is ugh.

  36. LAK says:

    It’s a Calvin klein ad!!

  37. Naddie says:

I’d go to this party. But Taylor, Calvin, Ed and the models must get out. Just the pool stays.

  38. Mindless Contemplations says:

I think the party looks like a blast. Wish I could of gone to something like that. I also like how Taylor and Calvins relationship actually seems like an adult relationship, something Taylor hasn’t really had yet.

  39. EricaV says:

RI resident here y’all! This house is GORGEOUS, sitting on a cliff high above the water right on the CT border. Most Rhode Islanders think it’s actually pretty awesome that Taylor is putting us on the map as a destination location for summer!! We rely on our tourism industry in the summer months. (Although I don’t agree with a comment she made about a year back that she taking up residence has driven prices up at the Ocean House hotel near her. Prices always go up in the summer.)

My cousin was working there Saturday night and said he was not allowed to take any pics at all, and had to sign something saying he wouldn’t discuss what happened/who he saw/etc. VERY private.

I really don’t think posting 8 pics over 3 days is that big of a deal. Most of my friends posted 10 pics on July 4th alone. Gigi, the HAIM girls, and a few others took/posted pics too. Is the jumping one staged? Yes. Have I staged pics with my friends too? Yes. Does that mean I’m fake? No. She’s actually done the jumping pic the last 2 years as well so it’s sort of a thing you could say…

I did notice that none of the same people from last year were there this year so that’s a little curious (Emma Stone, Lena D., etc) but not everyone can just pack up and go chill in RI for 3 days so who are we to say who did or did not get an invite?

  40. Keriann says:

Good friends, good food, great location….why the hate? Way to do the 4th of July Taylor and Friends!
