Ben Affleck just bought himself a $60k muscle car: predictable?

Ben Affleck is going through a very public divorce, and like many men in the midst of a midlife crisis he’s purchased himself a new vehicle – a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The car has a starting sticker price of $60k, which to Ben Affleck is probably like me buying a $40 dress. He’s not purchasing another Bentley or a Lambo, he’s just buying a car that’s very affordable for him. It’s a better idea than getting another dude tramp stamp.

You can see the photos on People.com and here’s their report:

It looks like Ben Affleck has purchased his very own Batmobile.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star, 42, was spotted driving on Tuesday in Los Angeles in a luxe new vehicle, a black Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. (The car’s retail price starts at $60,000, and it can be revved up to 700-plus horsepower!)

Affleck was photographed wearing a casual white tee behind the wheel of the expensive ride while out and about near his family home, where he was also seen walking one of his family’s dogs.

[From People]

Since we last reported on Affleck’s on-off wedding ring situation at Comic-Con, he’s removed his ring. Affleck was seen without his wedding ring in some exclusive paparazzi photos, taken on Monday. So the Garner-Afflecks are still playing this silly press game, but at least their media team is toning it down a little. This was probably their exit plan all along. I wonder how they’re going to spin it when Ben starts drowning himself in 21 year-old models.*

  2. Mia V. says:

    He’s so lame.

  3. shoochai says:

    hahahaha…ughhh, SO predictable.

  4. Wiffie says:

Ast least it’s not a miata? All the desperate middle aged new divorcees around here go that route.

    • Snowflake says:

You poor thing…. Ugh Miata is not turnon to me at all.

    • Luce says:

I don’t know where you are located, but I have seen two DMADs (“desperate middle-aged divorce'”) in the past week driving Miatas.

Turnoff extraordinaire. How can one so easily agree to be a cliche?

      • Lauren II says:

I live in Ontario, Canada. Conservative city.
The signature skeezeball middle aged male and female 50 + divorcee vehicle here is a Corvette convertible. Preferably Red or Yellow.

My 16 year old daughter asked “why are so many unfortunate looking people driving convertibles?”

“Horny Desperation ” is all I could reply.

Ben can afford any car he wants. Money cannot buy him a new soul, unfortunately.

  5. Zigggy says:

    hahaha

  6. lunchcoma says:

I’m going to concur with the “meh.” That’s not an expensive or showy car for someone of Affleck’s wealth and stature, so I’m not going to read much into it.

    • Kitten says:

That’s what I was thinking. What, no convertible?
Of all the mid-life purchases he could have made, this one is pretty low-key. 60K is probably considered pocket change for a dude of his wealth.

On a purely superficial note, I f*cking LOVE that car.

      • BlueNailsBetty says:

This. I would love to have a Challenger. He gets no grief from me about the car. The rolled up jeans, however…..

      • Kitten says:

Ugh. The rolled-up jeans. Why, Ben, why??

      • V4Real says:

I’m in love with the Dodge Chargers. The challengers are pretty damn cool though. But they don’t corner for shit. Not that I would be all Fast and Furious in one . But I would know to take it easy when going around corners and curves.

No big deal about Ben buying a car. We know he loves vintage cars. Now if he showed up with a young pretty thing in the passenger seat there might be call for outrage.

      • laura in LA says:

        Agreed w/everything said here…

Ben and Jen have had a lot of different family cars, most waaaay more expensive than the Dodge which appeals more to regular guys, maybe what he’s trying to be?

As a car girl myself, I much prefer his classic ’66 Chevelle to any new muscle cars, but I can see why as a suddenly single guy at home alone he’d want to take this superpowered one out for a spin. It possibly also allows him to escape the paps and go unnoticed almost anywhere else.

Next up, we’ll probably see him tooling around on his motorcycle, if he can get away from Brentwood/PacPal…

Hey, as long as he’s not spotted hitting the casinos (or hitting on 21 yr-olds), then who cares?

    • MrsBPitt says:

I think he has had this car for a while! I thought I remember seeing it in pap pics quite awhile ago….too lazy, to check…

      • lunchcoma says:

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if this were something he already had or planned on purchasing.

  7. Kiddo says:

    The Moob Mobile.

  8. Shambles says:

But did he save 15% or more on car insurance by switching to Geico?!
    JUST. LIKE. USSSS.

  9. EN says:

It is just 60K. My boring SUV costs almost that much. No big deal.

  10. aims says:

I’d rather have him buy a car then go on some kind of insane bender. I have sat back and watch this situation unfold, I say this without shaming or judgement of any kind. I feel that Ben maybe a little bipolar. He seems to act reckless and have these amazing highs and really bad lows. Purely an observation on my part.

    • Lara K says:

Oh, I think the bender is on the down low.
He might be bipolar, or it could just be the addictions. A close friend is a recovering gambler and alcoholic, and he was the same when he was off the wagon. The cycle of high on addiction, then remorse, then commitment to get better, then addiction again results in very similar behavior to bipolar disorder.
I just hope at some point he can get the right help and get better. I always had a soft spot for him.

      • laura in LA says:

        +1
Yeah, I guess I kinda have a soft-spot for Ben, too.

He’s not a *bad* guy after-all, just one with some troubles who’s now also going through a very public divorce. And all this ring on/off business just tells me that he’s maybe a little bit resentful and sick of it.

So he married a woman he obviously loved but maybe not as much as she did him, yet they had 10 yrs and 3 children together – no one’s to blame.

      • Kitten says:

Me too. I can’t help it nor can I explain it.
Let’s all hold each other since we’re like, the only three people on this site who still like him.

      • laura in LA says:

Kitten, I just wanna meet Ben at the bar of the Bel-Air and between drinks say to him: You Are Okay.

      • kori says:

I’ll join that group. I have a soft spot for him too. I think they were happy for a good while. There are many photos of them looking really happy in the early years. But I think once his career took off again the old demons roared back. I hope he gets help and doesn’t have regrets or backslides. But I’ve read lots of stories over the years, including the height of his fame where he was good to fans, tipped cabbies and service workers well, etc. That’s part of why I’ve rooted for him.

  11. The Original G says:

Really, If you compared this to handbags, say, this is a Coach bag. No story here.

  12. Fori says:

Good for him, at least he’s gotten rid of the ring too. I don’t think he’ll go for twenty year old models, he might have sex with them but not a relationship, he never has before, he always liked successful women his own age. If he goes younger it will be with a 30 year old. Late twenties at a push. He’s no DiCaprio.

I suspect he has his new woman waiting in the wings, there’s not going to be a long line of women because he’s already in love with someone else. Wish he would just come out with it already. It’s not a crime.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      My idea also .
He yet has a new woman waiting

    • Jayna says:

I know everyone jokes about 20-ish girls, But I’ve never thought that’s who he would fall for. I agree, I see Ben with someone 30 to mid 30s that he ends up being involved with, someone he finds interesting.

    • Know-it-all says:

Trust me he has his sights on JLo if u think I am crazy report to me next year do not forget I told u so you did not believe me.This man never loved Jen Garner he moved on too quickly. And trust pple go back to the ones they truly love I am a love coach I do this for a living so I know what I am talking about.

      • Jayna says:

LOL You are crazy. Trust me, he’s moving forward in relationships, new, younger, a new one to put on a pedestal, not someone with baggage a lifetime ago. He might bang J-LO a few times. Truly love? LOL Love coach? OMG

      • Kitten says:

Oh jeez. He is not going back to J Lo.
He wasn’t all that happy when he was with her, particularly towards the end when their relationship became bigger than his career.

Let’s not go off the rails please.

      • Tate says:

@Kitten Every time I see someone post about him and JLo I scratch my head in confusion. I don’t remember him looking all that happy when he was with her.

  13. alice says:

oh boy, this just means that he’s following the predictable post divorce douche manual: Sportive car, 20 year old bimbo girlfriend, tacky bachelor pad with leather couch and a huge tv.

    • Liberty says:

OMG i just had a brilliant idea. I want to build a giant subdivision or city-block area called Bachelorland with homes/condos leather, huge flat screens in each room, no kitchens just microwave room with poker table, two self-cleaning bathrooms (one for him, one for the hook-ups) and extra big parking spaces with built-in carwash nozzles. With a sheltered Uber car lane in every building/block for the walks of shame or drunk homeward journeys. And a concierge/maid/butler staff to do everything else while the guys rest upon leather sofas watching the game. Plus tiny private pot ranch!

Always with nearby bars, and golf courses. And a heliopad to take you to The Game anytime, anywhere.

      • NeoCleo says:

This could also be a video game! What kind of bosses would there be waiting at the end of each level? Divorce lawyers? Nasty judges?

      • Snowflake says:

Sounds like a plan. Dump all the ahole exes I have there, that way women which area to avoid. 😄

      • cheryl says:

You are on to something…. but maybe “giant” would be bad. Maybe there could be more of a “zone” in select cities. A giant expanse of wallowing manchilds all in one area might get too out of hand. Are you describing Hollywood, also? Lots to think about. Love how you designed in access points and escape methods for the hook ups though. Visionary!

      • Liberty says:

LOL. A video game, NeoCleo, brilliant!!!! A way to link the game to the sales. Like the game, now live it! yes, I think you could have a combo of challenge levels featuring lawyers, bodyguards, Gloria Allreds and E! reporters? Guys don’t have to be divorced to enter — this is a way to keep them safely off the streets and dating sites. They can be further encouraged to work their own special dating section online say call it “TinderDouche”, for example.

cheryl, assumed “giant size” space would be needed to accommodate all the guys who need to live there in each city. And YES – HOLLYWOOD — certainly living proof, the ideal pre done “test” really, that this plan would work, and sell.

I forgot to add two casinos with televised poker games running 24/7, and a sort of bunny-type club called MommysPerfectBoy, and hmm, clothing store created by a cross-pollination of Nike, UnderArmour, J. Crew and Hugo Boss. We promise new sport shoes delvered by drone in under five hours, and pizza and energy drinks in under twenty minutes, so that management can save money on the automatic GuyGates which will hardly be needed. Hook-ups can enter via underground tunnel they enter from the outside through a Victoria’s Secret/Apple Concept Shop that also sells beers of the world, action figures and advance copies of Maxim.

  14. Margareth says:

That’s surprising, to be honest. I expected a luxury yacht.

  15. Tracy says:

Someone check the list, quick. Is there any douchebag stereotype Ben has avoided?

  16. Bob says:

A Dodge is a cool car? A Dodge?
I don’t think so. I think a Porsche would be cool.

  17. Casi says:

Good for Ben. I would buy this car in a heartbeat if I had the money for it. I love my Charger and will someday put a Challenger in the garage too!

  18. Tiffany says:

Muscle cars are kind of his thing so there really is no story. Now, how he has managed to accrue his net worth to keep his hobby is the true crime. Just a horrible actor with no real niche.

  19. Justaposter says:

It’s a Hellcat, no shade thrown from me. Heck I want one!

  20. Jayna says:

I see no problem. A movie star/director/producer buys a Dodge Challenger muscle car. Big deal. I agree, no Bentley, no $200,000 Porsche. Back when he worked on Batman in Detroit, he toured some of their car facilities and was impressed with what they were doing in Detroit that he traded in their Japanese vehicles for GM and Ford vehicles. He’s buying a 60,000 car, which is nothing. Brandi Glanville, a D list reality star, went out and is driving around a Range Rover that was over 100,000 and she doesn’t even own a home. If that’s a mid-life crisis, it’s a pretty inexpensive one, buying this Dodge Challenger.

  21. funcakes says:

Well all know old Benny has a fresh young thang hidden away somewhere. We called with Bobby Flay.
Hollywood peen is so predictable. No pun intended.

    • Christin says:

This is probably an unpopular prediction, but I think she will have someone (at least publicly known) first. Someone to help provide stability and mend her broken heart, etc.

  22. Jaded says:

Hahaha!!! A shagmobile to pick up Hooters waitresses. Ben you so silly.

  23. serena says:

Considering he could have easily purchased a 260K car… no. 60K is not a luxury purchase, screaming male menopause. It is a regular car.

  24. EG says:

I would be willing to be the got the car for free! This is an advertiser’s dream come true.

  25. Illyra says:

He could have bought that with loose change dug out of the couch cushions.

  26. Cat'sMeow says:

I see parallels to Good Will Hunting when I think about Ben. Matt Damon has moved on with his life with a successful career and happy family life, while Ben got left behind to work his dead end construction job and wallow in self-destruction.

    • beanie says:

How is Ben left behind? He just won an Oscar for Argo. Sheesh.

    • kori says:

And I love Damon but he hasn’t had a hit in years. He just doesn’t get the flak affleck once did, probably because their images are so different. Ben is coming off Argo (Oscar and hit) and Gone Girl (hit).

  27. Happy21 says:

To his credit Ben has always been into muscle cars. He’s not a lambo or Ferrari kinda guy. He’s about the American muscle. I think I read an interview years ago about him, Dazed & Confused and the cars featured in the movie.

  28. anon1 says:

I read somewhere else (sorry) that it is a $90,000. car and is only one of 2000 manufactured.

    • Jayna says:

I read someone correct that headline and said it is a 65,000 car and customers are on backorder for it. The 2,000 number might just be what is out there right now, not that that is all they manufactured. I don’t see what could be added on to make it a 90,000 car.

  29. Buying a cool muscle car is pretty typical ‘breakup behavior’, however the breakup vacation, and the ring on, ring off, ring on is a turnoff! I used to be a Ben Garnifer fan–ive scratched them off my list!

  30. kayte says:

Wonder why the switch to American brands — the Ford Expedition, the red cheville (?) and just last week in Atlanta, a Chevy Tahoe SUV –?

    • graced says:

Ugh!! If I had his money, it would be German cars all the way!!! Porsche, Mercedes, Audi…. you get the picture. Ford Expedition??!! Really???

  31. Melain says:

It’s probably an ad placement deal tied to movie promotion. I suspect BA’s mid-life crisis will be a lot like all his other crises…expensive, self destructive and ill timed.

  32. jferber says:

I’m just waiting for Emily R. to be the new girlfriend in that new car. I think he’s planning on that and just waiting awhile to trot her out. Just a hunch. We’ll see.

  33. MediaMaven says:

He clearly didn’t put enough money in the toupee budget. It’s a good thing that’s not a convertible because he’d be chasing that shit constantly.

  34. Onyx XV says:

Yes, extremely predictable. I’m very surprised Jennifer didn’t kick him to the curb long ago. She’s so out of his league.

  35. laura in LA says:

Good taste in cars and apparently architecture as well…

I had no idea their home is a Cliff May: http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/hot-property/la-hm-hotprop2-pg-photogallery.html

(Now I’m really heartbroken for them!)
