Will Louis Tomlinson end up spending more than $15 million in child support?

I’ve noticed something weird about the UK tabloids when it comes to American-British relationships/divorces/babies: the UK tabloids go overboard defending the British celebrity, to the point where all sense, reason and logic goes out the window. The Louis Tomlinson situation is a minefield of this kind of nonsense – ever since Tomlinson confirmed (to an American outlet!!) that he was expecting a child with an American random, the UK press has been going to the “worst case scenario” for everything about Louis’s knocked up hookup, Briana Jungwirth. Like, the UK press is so eager to paint this girl as a golddigger trying to suck Louis dry financially. I just don’t think that’s what’s really happening?

He may be a multi-millionaire, but the sums are already adding up for expectant father Louis Tomlinson. The 23-year-old One Direction heartthrob, whose ex-fling Briana Jungwirth is said to have fallen pregnant with his child 11 weeks ago, will reportedly be set back up to £10million.

Figures relating to child-support and maintenance bills could amount to £20,000 a month when his baby with stylist Briana Jungwirth is born. He is also reportedly planning on buying a gated home for the youngster and their baby once it is born.

A source earlier told The Daily Mirror :’This is a case of a very short-term thing that will end up costing Louis around £10million. But he knows this is his responsibility.’

A representative for Louis Tomlinson refused to comment in relation to this article. The LA-based budding stylist and 1D heartthrob are no longer a couple but they are thought to be expecting their child in 2016.

[From The Daily Mail]

Real question: does Louis Tomlinson – or any of the One Direction boys – have £10million to drop on a baby-mama? I know 1D is super-successful, but I have serious doubts about how much money those guys actually take home, especially once Simon Cowell and the taxman have taken their cuts. But yes, Louis will have to spend some money on this “whoopsie baby” and to his credit, he seems okay with it. The baby announcement was packaged with the information that he would buy Briana a home in LA (a home in which he may live part of the time) and yes, he’ll probably make child support payments. But £20,000 a month? Doubtful. That’s about $31,000 a month. That’s not going to happen. Even if Briana takes him to court – which is doubtful because Louis seems eager to keep everything amicable – she would never get that much.

There are some other Louis stories knocking around – Simon Cowell was doing press for The X Factor and he told a reporter that he gave some advice to Louis. That advice? “Man up.” Simon told him that, plus: “You’re fortunate because you’re in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry about too much else…He didn’t kill anyone, he just got someone pregnant.”

Last thing – the Daily Mail says that just before Louis did the big baby announcement, he spent a ton of money on birthday presents for his ex-girlfriend Eleanor Calder. Hm.

I seriously doubt that this was a wanted pregnancy, but I’m glad he’s admitted to being the father. If you don’t want kids, then make it your job to carry a condom. If you’re having random sex with people you’re lucky that a child is all you got. I don’t want to sound preachy, but I have two boys and we have talked about safer sex to the point of sounding like a broken record. If you’re going to be sexually active, then it is your responsibility to protect yourself.

    • Suzy from Ontario says:

You play, be prepared to pay, especially if you’re rich and famous! Golddigger or not, he should know better than to rely on the girl saying she’s protected and use his own protection. I’m glad he owned up to the baby though, compared to some who deny deny deny. That child will read about this one day and I always feel sorry for the kids who have to read how much their father didn’t want them or called their mother names or acted like she was just out to get his money etc.

‘Fallen pregnant with his child’,,,cracked me up..

    • soxfan says:

LMAO-I just pictured this girl tripping and falling on the living room rug and when she gets up, she’s like, “OMG! I’m PREGNANT with Louis’s child!”

    • Amelia says:

Yeah. There just happened to be some wayward sperm hanging around which she ‘fell’ onto and *poof* magic pregnancy.

    • Dana says:

This is actually quite a common terminology in the UK. I’ve never understood it myself, and cringe every time someone tells me a story and says, “Then I fell pregnant.”

  3. Elyse says:

While he’s equally as responsible and probably more dumb than her (he couldn’t have put on a condom?), I kind of think she’s a gold digger. At least her family is. There have been tons of interviews from her family members and both her and her mother have been papped, while doing errands. She’s staying at a hotel in LA that Louis is paying for. Good grief girl, no one cares about you enough that you need to leave your home to stay at a hotel. I def think Louis will have to fork over a lot for this girl.

  4. Bridget says:

Is “fallen pregnant” actually an expression? Because I feel like I need to explain how things work to the Daily Mail writer.

I read somewhere that they were worth around GBP 20-30 million each before this tour. No idea if that’s true but they are insanely successful to the point where it’s a little scary. They’ve been touring like crazy for years and their merchandise game is pretty epic.

    • StormsMama says:

Yeah I was thinking that their merchandising has truly been insane. My (step) daughter was obsessed with them and wanted their shirts, their pens, their socks, you name it, 1D was on it.

  6. Veronica says:

Honestly, I find the idea of “gold digging” to be ridiculous in most cases where it’s charged. Am I really supposed to believe a 50 year old didn’t realize that the super attractive 22 year old was after more than his/her personality? That Louis could have avoided this situation by not being a complete slut? All actions have consequences, and not even money helps you escape them all.

  7. CartieUK says:

Who seriously needs 20K a month, I know babies are expensive but still! The British press love a drama and if it’s the Daily Mail they love nothing more than a good high number.
All the1D boys need a bloody good scrub, I’m showing my age now lol

  8. Farah says:

All the One Direction boys have around 20 million each. Louis and Liam make more money because since their second album, they’ve been writing more and more songs. Even when the group eventually breaks up, Louis has started record company and is writing songs for other artists. He’s setting himself up as a Simon Jr.

  9. Chaucer says:

I am thoroughly disappointed. I could be pregnancy twinsies with Duchess Kate, or Keira Knightley or Sophie Hunter, but instead i’m twinsies with some 1D groupie. It’s still early right? Right?!

    • Bridget says:

If it makes you feel better I was pregnancy twinsies with Ashlee Simpson. Sigh.

  10. Fori says:

Good for him standing up to his responsibilities. He won’t lose anywhere near that amount of money and neither should he. There is no drama here, he’s going to support the child and it’s mother. She should be advised to keep her family away from the media and be discreet.

  11. weirswalker says:

“He is also reportedly planning on buying a gated home for the youngster and their baby once it is born.”….lol.. Are they calling his old girlfriend a youngster ? Their article was written by an idiot…

  12. Sixer says:

In the UK, child maintenance is worked out as a percentage of the income of the parent who isn’t the main carer. One child is 15%. The courts will rubber stamp any mediated settlement – but ONLY if it’s 15% or more. Never less.

  13. MSat says:

If the custody and child support will be determined in the US, it will come down to income disparity. The court will look at what the mother makes vs. what the boy bander makes and the support will be determined that makes up the difference. If he’s already ponying up the dough for a house for the mother and child, the court will take that into consideration.

Since this kid does have songwriting credit on several of their “songs,” he is probably doing pretty well in the cash department, although he does share songwriting credits with several other writers on each track. However if he is as reckless with his money as he is with his dick, it won’t last long once the teenyboppers have moved on to a new boy band du jour! Given all the controversy around these guys, and the fact that they’re now getting a bit long in the tooth, I’d say the clock is ticking…

  14. pleaseicu says:

I can buy Louis has $30,000.00 per month spend on child support. Liam, Louis and Harry were each estimated to be worth between 25-30 million pounds each before this current tour, a few million pounds more than Niall or Zayn because they write more than Niall or Zayn for the albums and other artists.

Louis grew up with a deadbeat bio dad who walked out on him before he was two and only came back when 1D money started coming in. He’s talked before about how that impacted him greatly and how it’s made him want to be a really present, hands on dad for his kids. I don’t think that kid will want for anything.

He probably should protect his finances though in a formalized agreement, not necessarily from Briana –who hasn’t said or done anything other than walk out of a convenience store one time since this news broke, but from her family. It’s also never a bad idea to just get things in writing, especially when the parents aren’t together. So Briana and the baby are protected in case Louis decides to flake and to protect Louis’ assets just in case, since he really only knows Briana from their clubbing nights/ONS and doesn’t know her family at all.

Her family seems shady as all get out and won’t stop talking to the Daily Fail and Mirror about the situation and how none of them want his money, they just want to make sure that Briana and the baby are “taken care of.” Which I get the concern but it comes across a little shady when Briana’s mom is apparently talking to people and calling her grandchild “the One Direction baby” and calling the paps on herself as she goes to the gym.

  15. Alex says:

of course Simon told him to man up. He did the same stupid crap with that married woman.
Listen if you’re a young rockstar and want to sow your wild oats:
    1. get screened often
    2. wrap it up
    3. and BRING YOUR OWN CONDOMS (you don’t know what crazy will pop a hole in those suckers)

  16. Kt-22 says:

    Two words: Mary Povich

  17. Bread and Circuses says:

Anyone else think he looks like Norman Reedus (Daryl from The Walking Dead) in that last photo?

  18. Jarred says:

He’s gay and this baby is a hoax. It’s all about raising his public profile before he goes public with his real long-term relationship. Simon is not only in on the hoax, but probably behind it. Expect for Louis to ‘find out he’s not the real father’ any day now.

    • Fluff says:

That’s just a “theory” invented by the crazy teen stans who believe he’s tru wuv forever with one of his bandmates.

      • Dana says:

I would suggest looking towards tumblr, not twitter. There are 30+ aged people who have legitimate industry connections or just connections with hotel/bar/club staff and are very confident that Harry and Louis are together. None of them seem actually interested in the music or romantically interested in the band members. Quite a few of them have actual proof like photographs, but are unwilling to out the boys out of respect and moral decency.
