Johnathan Rhys Meyers, 31, worked with John Travolta on the recently-wrapped film From Paris With Love. Meyers praised his co-star Travolta and called him generous and friendly. He also told an anecdote about a time that Travolta ordered sushi to the set when they were working into the early hours of the morning:

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers became firm friends with his From Paris With Love costar John Travolta – because the Hollywood legend is “so generous”.
The pair finished filming in January 2009 – but managed to bond over their Irish roots; Travolta’s mother was Irish-American.
Jonathan, 31, says, “I’ve met a lot of people in my career, but I’ve never met anyone so generous. I’d been doing nightshoots and at 3 o’ clock in the morning, plates of sushi would turn up on set. He was ordering them from the hotel. He’d say, ‘We’re Irish – we’ve got to eat!'”
Meyers also revealed how he comforted the Grease star after the death of his teenage son Jett.
He adds, “I spoke to John. It’s a very trying time for his family. Jett was a beautiful boy.
“John is strong and smart and he has a good support system around him.”

The first thing that came to mind when I read this was that Travolta was trying to recruit Meyers into Scientology. It’s probably unfair to be suspicious of every kind act by someone just because they’re a cult member, but it definitely comes up. It’s like that “love bombing” thing that cults do as a way to make people feel welcome and surrender their cash and free will. Maybe Travolta is just a nice guy, though, and likes making friends with his co-workers. It’s better than eating in your trailer like Aniston. We’ll know what Travolta’s motivation was if Myers starts spouting off about how Scientology is 98% similar to the Bible.

I know Travolta was one of the first Hollywooders to embrace Scientology but he’s never been one to ‘actively recruit’ or jump on couches or shove it down the public’s throat. If it works for him, fine.

    That being said……….mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sushi 😉

  2. Feebee says:

I have no doubt that JT is a generous guy anyway but scientology recruitment may not be his only motivation. He probably really “likes” JRM.

  3. Aspen says:

This is not the first time I’ve heard him referred to as an incredibly generous and thoughtful man. I would imagine he’s probably a really great guy. I love hearing good things like this from time to time. It restores one’s faith in people a little bit.

Scientology makes me very wary, but like someone already said, John Travolta has never “seemed” fanatic about it.

Although the scientology thing is always a problem, Travolta’s managed to avoid (at least publicly) the crazed and deranged (see Cruise) aspects of it. He’s always come across as a genuinely decent guy, grateful for his second chance, and seems to be widely well regarded by other actors.

  5. YoMomma says:

Travolta is IRISH? Now that’s news.

  6. Wow says:

JRM used to be so hot, but as of late there’s something about him that is so gutter-butt. Not a good look on him.

  7. Mairead says:

YoMomma, you mean you haven’t heard of that fine ancient sept called the Ó Traibhólta 😯 (which given that spelling could translate literally as “From the drunk tribe” strangely), from the historic province of “Mídhe”? Tut tit 😆

I can’t abide Travolta on screen, but he does seem to be very well liked and have heard before that he is a very decent man.

I’m not sure about JRM’s suit though – it’s a bit “Rupert the Bear goes to the Disco” for me.

  8. Mairead says:

    😳 *tut tut

  9. geronimo says:

    Seán Ó Traibhólta. 😛

  10. Mairead says:

Or should that be Seán Ó Traibheólta? 😕

Yup, geronimo – it’s up there with Séamus Mhic an Cheangailt B)

    (James Bond for non-Gaeilgeóirí 😆 )

  11. Trillion says:

Can’t blame the man for having a crush on JRM.
