Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey cash in on sex pic publicity stunt

Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey don’t want the glossies to publish those supposed pictures of them having sex in a hot tub in Mexico, but they’re willing to talk about them. Just to, you know, set the record straight.

They’re going to talk to OK! Magazine in an exclusive interview about the photos, where they’ll also dish on Nick’s ex, Jessica Simpson, and those stupid sexy knife pics of Vanessa with Lindsay Lohan that were taken pre-Nick.

Nick & Vanessa are “ready to set the record straight on everything,” says the OK! rep. “In OK!’s pages, they’ll discuss the recent nude photos, Nick’s past and current relationship with Jessica and even the (knives) photos of Vanessa and Lindsay Lohan (knives).”

The Daily News has a quote from Lachey in the upcoming OK! article in which he pretty cleverly blows off the whole thing, saying “Where’s the scandal? I was in Mexico with my girlfriend of a year, celebrating our anniversary on a private vacation. It’s not like I was caught with a Mexican hooker. We’ve all gone out and had a few too many and done something stupid. We’ve all made mistakes.”

Is it just me, or does this whole thing sound like a publicity stunt? Rather clear close-up pictures came out of them making out, and getting naked, but the uncensored versions mysteriously never made it online, even though that always happens with juicy naked pictures from the photo agencies. Then their lawyers send a message to all the tabloids warning them not to publish the supposed sex pictures that they’ve never seen. Now they have a big scandal they can use to “set the record straight” about those knife pics.

How much are they getting paid for this interview? This could be a legitimate problem for Lachey and Minnillo, but it increasingly seems like most of these candids are staged, especially when they get this kind of publicity.
