Many of you have mentioned in the comments that Jennifer Garner was married to Scott Foley when she is rumored to have hooked up with her co-star, Michael Vartan. Foley has denied that this was the case, and blamed their breakup on the pressures of stardom. I’ve also heard rumors that Garner dumped Vartan for Affleck and that there may have been some overlap there. A 2003 interview in which Garner was openly flirty with Affleck when they were both with other partners (Garner was still married to Foley and Affleck was engaged to Jennifer Lopez) suggest this may have been the case.
Now the National Enquirer is claiming that Jennifer Garner has reconnected with Vartan and that they’re “secretly hooking up.” There are no specifics, though, and this story seems to have originated in OK! Magazine. It’s probably BS, but I wouldn’t mind it if Garner was getting hers, too.
In a bombshell twist, the National Enquirer has learned the betrayed beauty, 43, has been secretly hooking up with former lover Michael Vartan – who’s also dealing with a broken marriage!
“Jen’s still in pieces over what Ben did to the family, how it’s all fallen apart in such humiliating circumstances,” said an insider.
“She’s tried to keep things amicable, but the longer time passes the angrier she gets that Ben threw their marriage down the drain.
“Staying on good terms is proving impossible. She even declared, ‘I hate you,’” the insider added…
Now she’s leaning on her “Alias” co-star Michael, 46. The two dated from 2003 to 2004 before she married Ben in June
2005.Ironically, Michael split with his wife of three years, Lauren Skaar, last July.
“Michael’s been a total rock for Jen throughout this whole nightmare,” said another source. “The both kno exactly how the other feels.”

Garner is probably way too busy to “hook up” with anyone. She’s been on set in Atlanta working, and when she’s not there she’s been seen having family outings with Ben. That’s got to be awkward, but it does serve to further the narrative that they’re doing the best thing for their kids. I would be more likely to believe that she’s talking to an ex, not necessarily “hooking up”. Vartan is somewhat mysterious but he strikes me as a sympathetic ear.
Imagine how delicious it would be, and how jealous Ben would get, if Garner started dating a high profile guy again. I would love to see that, but you know she’s going to protect her down home mom image at all costs. If she’s getting some we’re not going to know about it.

No. In fact I think the quickest way for him to raise his profile would be to actually get together with Garner.
I loved them together so my first thought was “please let this be true.” Even though I realize it’s probably a bad idea.
I must be the only person who super duper dislikes him. Wasn’t he literally the ~only~ celeb to not let his segment of Punk’d air? I’m sure even low profile celebs let theirs air if they got some say in the edits. Vartan wouldn’t even do that.

I believe back then there were good reasons why Garner broke it off with Vartan. I don’t think he wanted the same things, so she moved on with Affleck. I think she probably made a mistake in marrying Affleck, although it might have worked for some years before going south. Ben is just not cut out for towing the line for years on end. Anyway, my feeling is that she married him knowing his tendencies. I think Jen is great, but she’s different today after having all her children and being a mother all these years. I can see her and Vartan being friends today, but nothing more. What didn’t work for them then isn’t going to suddenly work today.
Yeah, she broke Michael V heart , not sure how this happen but on the end, she left him for Ben. In the whole situation, regarding Ben and Jen for some time I really believed that two of them will have bitter end. Both of them have a history of bad relationships. I kind believe that she is aiming now towards Michael for sympathy. As for Ben, nothing really can surprised me coming from him.
Not only that but I remember rumors of how he also lost his job at Alias because she felt awkward working with him post split. So yeah I remember the not so innocent Jenn days!

I like JG in films, she plays a Mom, really well, but she has always had a tendency to overlap her relationships. So, the only people I feel bad for in this messy situation, are the children.

Yeah, I actually didn’t recognize him at first in Bates Motel, he looks haggard – still handsome but he’s lost something, that adorable sparkly smile he had in Alias and Never Been Kissed. To be fair his character wasn’t given much to do but I know what you mean, he didn’t seem at his best. Weirdly I find Cooper more attractive in Alias than now, he was just a normal geeky type guy in Alias, now he’s like a permatanned George Hamilton or something.

Yes, both in terms of her acting and pulling off the action scenes. Her skills + convincing physique + Alias’ awesome fight choreography (“Francie doesn’t like coffee ice cream”) made her one of my favorite action heroines ever.
She was one of the best after Buffy of course.
Buffy, Sydney, Xena and Emma Peel – all awesome women.
I’d rank her behind Buffy, Starbuck(female), and Xena in terms of awesome female leads on tv in that ten-year period.
As much as I love Buffy, I was always a bit annoyed at how SMG really never learned to throw a convincing punch and how often her stunt doubles had distractingly different physiques.
She was good and the show was really great, lots of talented actors who then went on to do Lost. And B Coop of course. Highly entertaining.
The first few seasons were awesome (it went off the rails after a while) and Garner was always great in the role.
I think her physicality was always more believable than Buffy/SMG, but then again, Buffy’s abilities were supernatural. I miss the days when there were several shows with women kicking ass like that. Do we even have any now?

Umm.. The Good Wife, Scandal, Homeland, Revenge..they just kick ass in a less motion-packed kind of way. But I feel like strong female characters are dominating TV right now. So awesome.
She was great, along with the other actors. Excellent show for binge-watching with action, mystery, intrigue, humor, eye-candy. Plus her physicality was incredible, really added to the role.
She was amazing. So good that I even hung in there thru seasons 4 and 5 on the DVDS as the story was getting peculiar. But of course the story also had David Anders (purr purr) and amazing Lena Olin in the final years and almost took on a sort more intense thriller vibe. And, Jen totally kept up with it all. Merrin Dungey as her best friend was awesome in her story arc too.
If she can channel that and get back into some decent scripts, and toss out those shoes, my guess is she can do things that will get her out of her cutesy People-type rut. She was okay but twee in comedy, IMO. But in Alias, with a steely edge, she was gold. Like, so hard-ass, she must have been a sort of portotype for the Angelina character in Mr & Mrs Smith.

She’s appealing to similar women who identify with her because she seems so much like them but that’s not what most men are attracted to.
He can pick between plenty of younger, happier, attractively presented, more alluring females who have never caused him any hurt, he’s not going to go back to her unless he’s really desperate or has something so seriously wrong with him that his options are severely limited.
I don’t believe they’re hooking up, but when she’s dolled up she’s pretty so I don’t think he’d find her frumpy or too mumsy. I don’t get her everyday dress sense either considering how much money she has, but she’s good-looking even with the frumpy clothes. He knows what she really looks like which isn’t ugly so I don’t see that being an issue. The Affleck thing — that’s what I see being a problem.

I’ve got to say, it astounds me that everyone is taking what these actors (or any actors/directors/producers/etc.) say at face value. Do you really think they are going to speak ill of other people in their field – particularly other people who have more fame or power than themselves?? Even if Garner did cheat on Foley, he would never broadcast that to the world, both for career reasons and because it is really no one’s business. And as for Vartan, his last line describes exactly why he would say his split with Garner was amicable (even if it was not) – he’d love to get cast in an Affleck movie and wouldn’t want to burn that bridge.
I don’t take everything they so as true, not at all. But to use a word like “benign” for the breakup is very odd. It treats their breakup as insignificant to him. Saying they are better friends, blah, blah, I can see him saying just to smooth over the gossip. Benign somehow portrays to me he really wasn’t that bothered by it.
And the fact that he cares so much about getting into an Affleck film over all else tells me this wasn’t some grand love affair that he was broken up by and that he was trying to get over if he was more focused on putting out there he would love to be cast in one of Ben’s movies, more focused on his career.
That shows a lack of passion in their romance to me, like it had already died way down by the time they broke up and she fell hard for Ben.

There was no cheating. That is the fiction being portrayed by Jen haters. Yes she cheated on her ex husband so its karma, blah, blah, blah. Scot Foley who was the other party involved said his ex wife did not cheat during their marriage, I choose to believe him over internet trolls that always want to cry more than the bereaved. I don’t find Michael sexy. I thought he was just kind of vanilla in the Jennifer Lopez movie, Monster-in-Law. Now, another actor with his same coloring and hair color and around the same age I find sexy, Josh Lucas. He’s sex on a stick. I loved him in Sweet Home Alabama.

Since Vartan-Garner stuff is kinda suddenly popping up in several places, I would guess this is BA and PR’s attempt to deflect and distract. It actually made things worse for the guilty party in my house.

My Alias fan girl would be pysched to see this happen! Not sure if there was overlap between Vartan and Affleck. Jennifer hooked up with Ben while shooting Elektra in which he came up for a cameo scene since as Daredevil (not included in the movie). Jennifer had announced she was single a month prior to that. Then rumors of Ben and Jen spotted all over Vancouver while she was filming Elektra came out and they finally went public at. Red Sox game a few months later. I remember all this because I was super invested in Jennifer since Alias was on at the time. And I cursed Ben Affleck’s sperm for knocking up Sydney Bristow since Jennifer was pregnant in the last season of Alias. Of course Michael Vartan’s character was the father of Garner’s character’s baby which made it super weird all around.

I don’t see much of a difference on the red carpet as far as any affection coming from Michael compared to Ben. Jen needs her a man who will give her some love publically for once. Since I don’t know it’s a fact if Jennifer is a cheater or not, then I will go with not without concrete proof.
I loved Michael Vartan and Jennifer together. If they’re great to each other, I would love to see them happily married and him treating her and the kids like precious gold. Then Ben can mull over while drunk at some poker table reflecting on how he broke up his family, that another man who actually gave a damn is now at home with his kids being a father to them and a husband to his wife, the family he tossed so he could do whatever he feels like because it’s all about him. That’s my fantasy anyway.
He is my benchmark for ‘beige wall’. So, so vanilla, yawn…
Whoah. I had no idea who Michael Vartan was. He’s a huge improvement over the big block of expressionless NOT. I get that his career may not be as hot, but his personal “hot” more than makes up for it. Jen actually looks happy with him, and he doesn’t look like his alarm is set for stripper-coke-o’clock.

LOL Ben is smiling. Notice, Jen is NOT. She still is not putting on her smiley pap walk like she was doing before they went to the Bahamas. But the kids look happy out taking the dog for a walk. Jen’s hair has been a mess since she lightened it. I can’t figure out why it’s so disheveled all the time. The humidity in Atlanta, I guess.
I didn’t even recognize Violet. They cut her hair, and she doesn’t have her glasses on. She looks so pretty.
And then of course they had to have a photo of Bunny Boiler in the article, didn’t they, on DM? Honestly, it looks like she’s copying the way Jen dresses in that photo. Jen has worn some grey skinny jeans and wears a lot of tops that she only tucks the front into the jeans, as is the style. I’ve never seen Bunny Boiler wear her tops like that before. Just Kidding that she’s copying. I think. LOL I hate that Jen looks a bit of a mess and Bunny Boiler looks nice. The puppy is soooo cute. Finally, Ben changed T-shirts.

Ya think there’s a little role reversal there. In the past, Jen smiles, Ben not so much and looks like he’d rather be anywhere else. These pictures are almost exactly the opposite. What message is in that do you suppose?
My guess is that Ben knows he needs to look happier with them right now. And Jen can longer put on the front of being the perfect family since the world now knows that all was not well behind the scenes as she always pretended it was. Plus, everyone sees her as the wronged woman now, so people might think she was a bit daft (lol) if she seemed all smiley and happy around Ben right now. I don’t know – I’m really not quite sure what they’re doing. I mean, are they really going to try to make it work yet again? The nanny was just the latest and worst incident by all accounts. They were ready to split after the second and third kids. It seems crazy to put their kids through this – they took the very public step of announcing their divorce, which you would think would have taken a lot of thought before doing so. And now, 6-8 weeks later, they’re already backtracking. How confusing for the kids. And I can’t see how Jen’s family and friends could deal with this – they all said the divorce was no surprise at all, they were only surprised they lasted as long as they did. So strange … It really does show such extreme codependence.
Somebody on Daily Mail in the comments section may have hit it straight on.

I might add, that he has hurt her and broken her heart with nannygate, the disrespect by him having an inappropriate relationship in their home that she is still reeling from because Bunny Boiler won’t go away, thus he’s humiliated her publicly. As much as she is disgusted by him, she was with him for ten years and he is the father of her children. They have a history. She hates him right now, BUT she hates the nanny even more and her games fame-ho-wise. So she will do some papwalks to take the momentum out of the Nanny from Hell’s fame-ho agenda.
Ya, I cannot even imagine the level of pressure she is being placed under right now. It’s all about his image at this point and he knows he has to have her at his side to recover that any time soon. So, he’ll hit her soft spots and promise everything her heart has cried out for in their relationship – they always do. Gamblers are master manipulators. Grrr. Knowing that actually makes me like him even less, though there wasn’t much further to go.
I don’t know you guys. I find it hard to believe she’d do this for him for PR reasons only. Maybe to ease her own humiliation like you said. But not for him alone. I also still think there’s such strong dysfunction there – she might hate him, but she probably still loves him and doesn’t want to let him go. Look how much else she’s forgiven and let go over the years. It seems hard to believe now, but nanny-gate will blow over at some point, and Ben/Jen could go back to playing happy family again … Until their normal patterns set back in, which it seems pretty clear they will at some point, whether in 6 months or 1 year or 5. Seems they’re just prolonging the inevitable.
@Diane, I don’t think he’s promising her everything she wanted in a relationship to get her back, or maybe he did and she’s over the marriage. But I think he wants her to do what she was doing before nannygate that seemed to be her idea, putting on a public display of an amicable divorce, co-parenting together in a friendly way.
It’s obvious she’s doing the bare minimum, because nannygate changed that for her. She’s hurting and angry and sad.
Jayna – I still say Jen picks the wrong pants!! 🙂 The green ones she has on today fall too far down on her waist, and droop too low betweeb her legs, and it shortens her legs. Do you see it? LOL. Sorry, but I always see that same thing with her pants. I don’t like mom jeans either, but She needs to find a better fit. 😁😁
LOL Those aren’t skinny jeans, though. They are low slung and droop. I see what you are saying, but it’s just the way she’s built. That kind of pant makes a lot of people look like their legs are shorter, except Gisele type models.
Why does Ben often wear dark socks with shorts and running shoes? LOL He’s got his own casual style issues.
I have those exact same pants! And they droop too low so I have to wear a belt to keep them in the proper place. The funny thing is they ID them and a “cheap” knock off…but mine are an even cheaper version from Old Navy. I scrutinized hers and every single detail looks like my cheap-ass ones. Too funny.
Yes, someone at PR finally got through to Ben and now every photo is his obviously fake grin. He’s such a bad actor, stick to writing and directing Ben. I think Jen is playing along, as you said, reluctantly. Who knows if it’s to capitalize on her new sympathy fame with women or to it’s part of a more formal separation agreement. If it is the latter, I hope her attorneys are pushing hard and getting her everything she wants. I also don’t rule out the fact that she may stay with him. I think she worked long and hard to climb that social ladder to Ben’s A list wife status and I can see her doing anything to keep it.
Yeah, People just issued a story with the headline solely focused on the fact that Ben and Jen were “talking and laughing” during their pap walk today. I mean really, this is what is considered “news” now? People’s facial expressions?! What have we been reduced to? Lol. In any case though, the whole thing seems so orchestrated and pathetic. One week ago, they’re ‘miserable’ and ‘awkward’ and like ‘strangers’ and now, all of a sudden after those post-Disney stories, they’re suddenly a happy, happy family and all is suddenly and miraculously fine? SO. BIZARRE.
Jayna – So true about only models or Charlize Theron-tyoes being able to wear those pants! As for Ben, he’s a Boston guy as you know, and guys around here do wear that type of dorky style in the summer – socks with sneakers and shorts. Lol.

@ Diana. Jen might have to play along for future support and property /family home. According to People Magazine, July 18, 2005, the Turks and Caicos registrar general says they did not file an application for a marriage license. No family or friends were at their ceremony just Victor Garber. It’s hard to get closure if you can’t even file for a divorce.
Their marriage was on the 18th of May 2005 not July. All the noise about waiting to file a day after their anniversary in July is a farce. Just goes to show how little people actually know. Most people cannot even separate truth from fiction when it comes to certain people.

I think too many of us teenager our own anger about relationships onto Ben and assume things that just aren’t there. Daily Mail has pics of all of them flying into LA on their private jet yesterday. Is she done filming now? I’m sure school is about to start also. A little bit surprised Jen let Ben fly with them. Oh..to be a mouse on that flight, lol.
It will be interesting to see what they do now that they’re back in LA – nanny territory. Something tells me we’ll be back to “same as it ever was” as if nothing ever happened. We’ll be seeing the dimple parade, including Ben, for more farmer’s market outings and Starbucks runs. It will be like the summer of 2015 was all just some big bad dream.
