FKA Twigs & Robert Pattinson are in LA, they’re fine & she ‘sweetly berates him’

FFN_FKA_Twigs_CPR_082215_51830521

Here are some photos of FKA Twigs in LA over the weekend. She went shopping at Whole Foods, although it didn’t look like she got much? Maybe that her assistant (the ginger dude) carrying her one bag of groceries. I’m a little bit surprised to see Twigs in LA, I thought she would be on the East Coast or back in London, doing promotional work for her latest EP, M3LL155X. Here’s something weird: “M3LL155X” is supposed to be pronounced “Melissa.” That’s her alter ego, her performance persona, according to Twigs. More than a week ago, Twigs also released a 12-minute collection of music videos to go along with the new music – go here to watch. She directed all of that.

Meanwhile, it really does seem like Twigs and Sparkles have pushed back their plans for a summer wedding. People Magazine got that tip more than a week ago as well – apparently, they’ve abandoned their dream of a simple “pub wedding” and Twigs wants to plan something bigger, with more people and more of a scene. Once we learned that the wedding was postponed, there were some rumors that Twigs and Sparkles were on the rocks. But Page Six says that shortly after they postponed the wedding, Twigs was seen FaceTime-ing with Sparkles at a London airport (she was on route to Sweden). A source claimed: “She was sweetly berating him that he hadn’t listened to something she told him a few days ago. She wanted to see him tomorrow. She called him ‘baby.’” So there you go. They’re fine. Probably. And I’m assuming she was staying at Rob’s house in LA this weekend, so there’s that. They’re fine.

I’m sure she’s very talented (never heard any of her stuff), but (and I may get shot down for this) am I the only one who finds her whole “avant-garde artiste” persona annoying ??

    • als says:

With all due respect to this lady, if it wasn’t for her Twilight boyfriend, very few people would have heard of her – in spite of her wonderful artistic persona.
If it wasn’t for her Twilight boyfriend a lot more people would have rolled their eyes at the EP name.
Also, no matter how hard she tries to appear edgy, she is a very beautiful lady that is getting gigs based on that – she is mainstream, not edgy.

      • als says:

And when I say beautiful lady I mean she is drop-dead gorgeous.

      • ell says:

in the US. in the UK she was famous before him.

      • Tpaz says:

Drop dead gorgeous?? I guess it’s true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      • QQ says:

and if you are into music this girl has been on pretty much all the magazines for years and getting profiled etc , as the next big thing so while I’ve heard of him because it’s inescapable at this point in time I was QUITE an FKA Twigs fan Before they got together, if anything, their relationship gave me pause for her career

      • Deidra says:

I agree that she’s drop-dead gorgeous. I’d even go as far as saying she deliberately uglifies herself to look avantgarde and unconventional.

      • mia girl says:

QQ – totally agree. For example, Pitchfork has been covering/reviewing her for years so I had read about her on the site. They just gave her latest EP a strong review as well.
It’s an interesting read if you haven’t seen it
        http://m.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/20985-m3ll155x/

I get that her sound/vibe may not be for everyone, but I really believe she’s a creative force, not some faux-artiste.

        And I think she’s beautiful.

      • annaloo. says:

Fame is an end result game. It doesn’t really matter how you get there, does it? It just matters how you stay.

      • teacakes says:

@QQ is right – Twigs was getting profiled in all the music and style mags over in the UK well before Sparkles happened, she was on the way to being another Florence & the Machine in terms of all that.

    • Aren says:

I thought she was talented until I saw one of her vids. It was over 4 minutes of “building up” and going nowhere.
Also, it sounded way too much like what Tricky did almost 20 years ago.
There are many talented musicians that are also theatrical, but to me Twigs is just a crafted image of somebody who is supposed to be a real artist.

      • Cran says:

Love Tricky. She does remind me of him. I like her as well.

      • Jorts says:

Um, there are a LOT of artists making chillwave/R&B/Trip Hop music and yes, they will share a similar sound. But just because Tricky and FKA Twigs make the same kind of music doesn’t mean that Twigs is copying Tricky. To those of us who listen to electronica and its sub-genres, the two sound completely different.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

She reminds me of Miley Cyrus, especially in the mouth/teeth area.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

      Her entire persona is grating.

      • Sabrine says:

She looks great, not covered in ugly, muddy tattoos. She respects herself too much and isn’t about to follow all the other sheep to the tattoo parlour. I respect her for that.

      • Grace says:

So having tattoos means you don’t ‘respect’ yourself?

OMG. Go back to the 1950s

    • Luca76 says:

She’s a better singer than he is an actor (that’s not saying much). Her work is just really derivative of 90s trip-hop (Portishead, Massive Attack etc) though not as good. She has a decent voice.

      • Original T.C. says:

Most people are better singers than Sparkles is as an actor, but I do think she has real talent in multiple areas (singing, dancing, AV work) even though I’m not into her type of music. Sparkles gets by due to his large fanbase and being “viewed” as an attractive White male (I don’t see it). So he will be given a million chances to fail and get credit for simply showing up.

    • CG says:

I don’t “get” her either — the music, the persona, nothing. Every time I try to listen to one of her songs, I literally have to turn it off after a minute. It’s just not good.

    • InvaderTak says:

Except there’s nothing avant guard about anything she does. If this were the late 70’s/early 80’s maybe. But since it’s not…

    • SKF says:

Sorry guys but I am sick of the attacks made on her! She is amazing! She was amazing before Rob and she does not have her success just because she is beautiful.

She does everything. She creates her music, her video clips, everything about her as an artist is her idea, her image, her creation, her direction. As a visual artist and director she is fantastic. She’s also a wonderful dancer.

She had a strong following here in Australia before Rob and her live shows are insane. I love her vibe.

She also gives credit to where her ideas, inspirations, dance styles, etc come from – featuring artists and dancers who inspired and taught her in her shows and videos in the mist respectful way. That is unusual.

And I love the nose ring on her. Not everything has to be filtered through white western ideas of beauty and elegance.

      • Snazzy says:

it’s not about attacks. It’s about my opinion. You are have the right to agree or disagree, just as I have a right to my opinion.

      • Armenthrowup says:

I’m with you, SFK, she is AMAZING! I’m sick of her being defined by who she dating, it’s such a misogynistic view. she would have got where she is without RPatz. Give me musicians like her over whiny means girls any day. (And she is beautiful, not that should be an issue).

      • Polysyllabic says:

Thank you for staying what I wanted to, and particularly about the oh so white filter about her looks.

And yay, another Aussie here 🙂

      • Jorts says:

Right? People are talking about her like she’s some manufactured pop star with a team behind her. She’s the one who is driving and creating the image that you see, guys–she’s the real deal and is immensely talented IMO. If you don’t care for her music or her persona or whatever, cool, but to say that she’s untalented is categorically untrue.

I also LOVE her septum ring. It really suits her.

      • Narek says:

SKF- yes! I love her. She’s a really great dancer, she writes, produces, and does what she wants. Her beauty made me look again to make sure she was real and not photo shopped. Team Twigs!!

    • Grace says:

Oh the “am I the only one” sentence, just speak you opinion. It does not make your opinion valid or not if others agree with you.

      • Snazzy says:

Honestly, just checking if others felt this way. Because maybe I am missing something, which, hey, ok why not? So I don’t see an issue with my question. People can agree or disagree, but I have every right to a) find her irritating and b) ask if others do as well.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

      two words. NOSE RING.

  2. Andrea says:

Actually, Sparkles isn’t in LA, he’s filming that movie with Charlie Hunnam and Sienna Miller in Belfast and Twigs is performing at FYF fest this weekend. But he goes to London on weekends and is seen with Twigs all over the town when she’s there as well, so yeah… they’re fine

    • Farah says:

She was doing well (for a just starting out alt RnB artist) before Rob. She was booking Coachella and Wireless before they’d even met!

  3. Sixer says:

See, that EP title looks like a failed attempt at either a) a UK personalised car number plate or b) putting numbers into your calculator so that they spell words like boobies and bollocks when turned upside down, like we ancient old hags used to do at school.

These associations mean I’ll never be able to take the EP’s songs seriously. Sorry Twig, cos I quite like you.

  4. Astrid says:

I don’t know her music and I can’t get beyond the nose ring. Ehw!

    • Snazzy says:

yes, I’m trying not to be judgy, but I hate it too!

    • Grace says:

It is gross. That’s not seeing things through a white standard of beauty – it just looks like you are about to be led into the bull ring by a matador – ridiculous.

    • Genny says:

Must be a generational thing, because I think she pulls off the septum ring better than most people who have them. But I like piercings, so.
      And her music is good.

    • Tessy says:

I’ve never heard of her other than on this site. And I’m old enough to feel squeamish when I see where some people pierce themselves. The way she walks around with the bull ring in her nose and her mouth open all the time strikes me as the ring makes it difficult to breath, or maybe hard to blow her nose?

She is very pretty, but it actually took me awhile to notice it because of the ring and her always open mouth.

  5. Dee says:

She passed out after her LA performance tonight. Twihards are having a meltdown at the thought that she might be pregnant.

  6. Tig says:

Yikes hadn’t heard about the passing out part- that’s scary. Hope she’s OK. And OF COURSE the first jump to conclusions is she’s pregnant.

I like her better as a dancer than singer. Her body is amazing and I want her sunglasses.

    • D. says:

Her artistic vision and her dancing are much better than her music and her singing. That’s why her live shows are sold out in minutes but she’s never in charts with her albums.

    • Mimz says:

I’m so in love with the sunnies. I want them.

And I love her. Her fashion sense fascinates me (most of the times)

  7. Lara K says:

I’m over her whole faux-thentic schtick.

At first I was happy Rob was finally with someone real, but she’s about as real as Kim Kardashian’s behind.

    She is gorgeous though.

    • Willie L says:

Agreed. I think she’s pretty, and I was hopeful at first, seeing how happy Sparkles looks when they’re together. But these last few months make me roll my eyes. I don’t know if it’s just the attention going to her head or what, but some of the stuff she says in her interviews is so pretentious and seemingly calculated that I just shake my head in disgust. She seems one step away from being a James Franco with all that “I’m an artiste” BS. If that’s what makes Rob happy…well, okay then. Good luck with that.

      • ORLY says:

Twigs sounds no different in her interviews now, in comparison to before. Read interviews from 2 years ago, she’s the same. Just because you were unaware of her personality doesn’t mean fame’s gone to her head.

  8. Ben Dover says:

She’s really annoying. She pretends to not care about Rob’s status but uses it to her advantage. She ain’t fooling anyone.

    • Anname says:

How does she use Rob? She is going to marry him, he is a part of her life, that’s not using him. She doesn’t voluntarily talk about him, they rarely get papped together, he is not on her social media at all. How is she supposed to avoid the interest in her relationship? She has said many times she doesn’t like it, and she gets annoyed by interviewers pushing her about it.

  9. Fran says:

She reminds me of Lourdes Ciccone!

  10. Nina says:

Her face is just really unpleasant to look at. I think it’s the combination of her teeth + mouth breathing.

    Also, her music sucks.

  11. Neah23 says:

Wow I see a lot of haters on here, I know there was a reason I didn’t click into these post anymore.

  12. Ankhel says:

Something tells me she probably “sweetly berates” Rob a lot. I imagine that’s his thing though, so who am I to judge.

  13. SKF says:

The barrage of negative comments about a talented and interesting lady are depressing.

    • Anname says:

+1, She is definitely an Artist with a capital A, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t talented at what she does. Even Lainey admits that even though she can come off sounding like Franco, she actually is successful at all her endeavors – writing, singing, producing, dancing, putting together concepts and performing them. Her “art” may not appeal to the mainstream and it may not be your thing, but she has something there. All the music sites/critics are giving her very high ratings on her new EP, and her live shows are very successful for the most part.

The fact she is dating a famous person does not automatically mean she is using him to get ahead. She has not talked about their relationship (other than acknowledging the ugly social media reactions when asked), she has never posted anything about him online, she has never even said his name in any interview. Of course she gets attention for the relationship, but I don’t see how that is avoidable, barring never being seen together.

    • Genny says:

I feel the same way. I get how her persona is grating, but I do think the distaste here is a bit much, considering she’s so “unknown” and “just using Sparkles for fame”. I’ve known about her stuff for a few years, so clearly that’s not the case at all.

  14. Nayru says:

The name is in leet speak, 1337, or eleet, this silly Internet language that I think was invented in the 90s.

  15. shannon says:

I don’t know enough about her to make an in depth comment, but anyone who can’t carry a single bag of groceries herself has got issues.

  16. Vera says:

What a hateful fest here. It’s the first time she was papped this summer & everyone is jumping to say how they’re annoyed and displeased with this girl. Meh.

  17. Gina says:

Just heard that Sparkles along with Lizzy Olsen is about to receive an honor award to the best actors of “Young Hollywood”. I don’t even know what to say, umm

    • suziekew says:

How about say “congratulations, you did good”. Of course, if their personal life (dating your crush or breaking up with your crush) makes that impossible, then you could always be classy and not say anything.

      • Grace says:

But what has Rpattz done to merit an award for his acting?

Even his fans must admit that he hasn’t proven himself and he is not on the same level as his peers Eddie Redmayne, Andrew Garfield etc

and almost 30 is hardly ‘young’ Hollywood. He’s been around for 8 years now.

      • Vera says:

To Grace: Ryan Gosling and Jessica Chastain received those awards in 2011, and both were over 30 then, so your age argument is irrelevant. And Pattinson is redefining his career post-Twilight, it’s nice that industry appreciates his latest work. It must hurt for some that he isn’t the loser they claim he is.

  18. AlmondJoy says:

For some reason she pisses people off… Twigs, keep being your unique, beautiful and talented self 😘

    • Fever says:

I’m right there with you AlmondJoy!

Its really perplexing and I mean its uncanny!

Any website, day or night across the internet – make a post about FKA Twigs and women go IN!

      Its really unbelievable to me!

But make a post about Rihanna or Beyawnce or Nicki Minaj and its at least 50/50.

But here you have a talented young woman who is in excellent shape, attractive, makes her own music, directs her own clips – and even if it isn’t your thing, she clearly works very hard and the SHADE that comes from other women just because it supposedly evokes Tricky (because no ones music references any other artists) is astonishing.

I’m not in love with Twigs whole schtick but this EP is interesting, the video is a statement…and there is no reason for a lot of the comments I read about her. None. Other than racism.

    • Chica says:

Mostly, she pisses off a lot of girls who don’t have any Sub Saharan African in them. Not surprising.

      • Original T.C. says:

“Mostly, she pisses off a lot of girls who don’t have any Sub Saharan African in them. Not surprising.”

I have a 100% sub Saharan African in me and I don’t see how the posts on Celebitchy anyway are any different than posts about White European female artists that are not well known in the U.S. (RiRi and Beyoncé have loyal US fans defending them on gossip sites) or White female celebrities (have you guys read other postings on women? Did you guys see posts about the Nanny who claims to have slept with Afflect? Women attack other women for little things, not news). Viola Davis is a gorgeous, talented woman with more sub-Saharan genes that this chick and she gets a lot of respect.

Something’s people just don’t like certain celebrities if they are introduced to the U.S. first as some famous person’s girlfriend. See Fassy’s girlfriend Alicia V. regardless of her talent she gets dismissed as riding Fassy’s coat tails.

To me FKA Twigs looks just like KSTEW with more melanin. They both look like little girls with open mouth poses. Similar level of attractiveness. He has a specific type like other celebrities. But at least she has actual talent in singing, dancing and visual arts. KSTEW is just big talk and judgemental.

P.S. Reading through these posts she has almost an equal amount of positive posts as negatives so it’s hyperbolic to claim that her post is full of just hate. I think as a fan no one likes seeing ANY negative comments about their favorite. I totally get that.

    • Jorts says:

I don’t get it, Almondjoy. It’s why I usually avoid Twigs threads. She seems smart, articulate, interesting and grounded to me, not to mention talented and beautiful.

The hate is so very bizarre.

  19. Fever says:

Why do people hate her so much? Any post about her across the internet evokes some really strong comments just like these – its a real phenomenon.

I’m inclined to believe that women really can’t handle a talented woman of color who isn’t a hip hop hipster or a booty shaker. There is no real other explanation to me for why people can’t digest Twigs.

    • Carey says:

I agree with you. She’s doing her own thing and has total control of her image and music. That’s threatening to a lot of people.

  20. Hannah says:

She’s so pretty in these photos. And her body is just amazing. Strong, lean, healthy looking. So envious!!

Another thing. This notion that she’s only a thing because of sparkles. She has Mercury award nomination already.
Her cd was on almost every list of albums of the year this past Xmas. So she is held in high regard critically by everyone from the guardian to pitchfork and NME, I really doubt they put her on the best list because of twilight. Her music may not be mainstream or to everyone’s taste but there is no doubt that she us considered an accomplished artist by the music industry and her peers.

  21. A.Key says:

I guess Rob does have a type after all – the stuck up annoying hipster brats.

  22. skippy says:

I like her and her edgy stuff. I think she is lovely. I also think it’s nice that Rob found someone he loves and it looks to be reciprocated. I thought that Kristen cheating thing must have been a nightmare. As it would be for anyone.

  23. anone says:

    Elle a un nouveau mec

  24. Josefa says:

Honest question. How is an artist supposed to discuss her work and have confidence without being perceived as narcissistic, hipstery, pretentious, fake, etc.? I feel like no matter how they express themselves, people simply aren’t comfortable with the idea of someone being proud of their own body of work. Especially if it’s a woman.

    • belle de jour says:

I would go a step further and observe that not many people seem to be comfortable taking art – or talking about it, or talking about taking it seriously – seriously.

Sometimes, talking ‘about’ art – vs. the doing of it – is a whole different skill set, as well. That goes across almost all artistic disciplines I can think of – even writing, where words are supposed to be the artist’s thing.

It is so very easy to make fun of artists talking ‘about’ rather than communicating within their discipline, amongst colleagues, or via the art itself. And that shooting-fish-in-a-barrel, ‘common sense’ and ‘practicality rules’ aspect of said mockery & dismissal always bugs the hell out of me.

  25. heresthething says:

Let’s get real here. Very few Americans knew who this chick was before she started dating “Sparkles” as you call him. Most of us googled her, looked at her Youtube videos, rolled our eyes and laughed. She gets criticized because her “art” is not to the taste of most, but she gets interviews left and right now because of who she is dating. She seems so over being asked about her status as Rob’s GF, yet does not turn down any work or interviews she may get for exactly that reason. Twigs, Melissa or whatever she calls herself now is the human version of a small, low budget, quirky Indy film that not alot of people understand, but may be interested in seeing because it features a big, famous star. Nothing wrong with that, but why are the Twig fans so overzealous and easily offended at anyone who doesn’t care for her? I have seen far worse “hating” on other celebs at CB, so chill.

BTW, I am not a Rob fan, but do you guys really think he enjoys being called “Sparkles”. I bet that makes him cringe. I hope you are doing that on purpose, because I bet it makes her cringe too, lol. She claims not to have seen any of the Twilight films after all. I am sure they are way below her artistic standard and I believe she is not into anything which appeals to the unwashed masses you know.

  26. Rae says:

I find her pretentious, along with a lot of other similar artists who try to out do each other with how ‘unique’ they are, so she isn’t being singled out. I also don’t understand her music. It’s not bad, I just don’t understand it’s draw and it’s not my thing. Each to their own. I’m not a ‘hater’, I just don’t like her music or persona.
