TMZ: Megan Fox will have to support Brian Austin Green, because of his vertigo

wenn3171086

I’m trying to figure how bad Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green’s divorce is going to get in the months to come. Apparently, they’ve been separated for months, and late last week, Megan pulled the trigger and filed for divorce from BAG. “Sources” keep telling People Magazine and Us Weekly that the biggest problem in their marriage was that BAG wanted Megan to put her career on the back burner and focus more on their family. Meanwhile, Megan has always been the breadwinner of her marriage, even though she did back-to-back pregnancies with their sons Noah and Bodhi. Which brings me back to whether this divorce is going to get bad – will Megan have to financially support BAG? TMZ says that she will, partly because BAG has been struggling with vertigo ever since a car accident last December:

Brian Austin Green will almost certainly get spousal support from Megan Fox in their divorce, and the reason appears to stem from a terrible car accident. TMZ broke the story, Megan filed for divorce Friday. As we said, our sources say it’s likely she’ll end up paying Brian spousal support, because of the large disparity in income and income potential.

We’re told Brian has worked very little since last December, when he was in a head-on collision. As we reported, Brian and Megan were driving when they were hit by a drunk driver who was arrested. Brian says the guy was going around 50 MPH and it was severe enough for the airbags to deploy.

At the time of the accident TMZ was told Brian and Megan were not injured. But now we’re told the accident triggered a serious medical condition … vertigo, which affects balance. Our sources say Brian’s vertigo is so bad he can’t get out of bed. We’re told he hasn’t worked since the accident. As we reported, Brian and Megan — who is working steadily on huge movies — are still living in the same home.

[From TMZ]

While I don’t doubt that Megan will have to financially support BAG in some way, if the accident was triggered by a drunk driver who was then arrested, surely that’s an issue for the insurance companies, right? If BAG has an accident-related injury, the insurance companies should be dealing with it and it’s not Megan’s issue. But as I said, I’m sure she’ll have to give him money. My guess is that she’ll do a flat settlement rather than spousal support.

I think insurance only goes so far and vertigo can be debilitating. Sucks for both of them.

    • Santia says:

And it takes years to get a settlement, even when fault doesn’t seem to be an issue.

      • RUDDYZOOKEEPER says:

And it only takes years if you’re “lucky” enough to get hit by an insured motorist. I’ve been in four accidents – none my fault – and a whopping ZERO of the cars/drivers were insured. Yeah, it’s the law. No, people don’t care. Most that do carry insurance carry state minimums anyway, so good luck with a long-term injury. Not sure about CA, but in my state your insurance handles your medical bills, period. Surely they carried high PIP, but then again, who knows.

      • lucy2 says:

Yes, a friend’s accident with a drunk driver took years to settle, and it wasn’t much because he was so poorly insured.

    • carol says:

Yay, my mom got hit by a car whose driver was texting. She was sent to the hospital and a year later she is still wraggling with the insurance.

      • Chicagogurl says:

3 of my aunts were killed 3 yrs ago this thanksgiving by a man who was speeding and texting. He died this last year as a result of injuries and surgeries needed. His passenger who was severely injured is not n need of medica attention for the rest of her life. The insurance companies went to battle immediately and the result was a meager settlement 2 years after the accident. They basically covered funeral costs and the passenger was given a lump sum that was laughable. It’s no joke how cutthroat the financial side of accident is. I don’t doubt he needs ways more support than a settlement would give.

  2. MrsB says:

If he has vertigo, I really feel for him. It can be absolutely incapacitating. Chronic medical problems can be very hard and stressful on a couple as well. I think TMZ said they’re still living together, so the split seems pretty amicable so far.

    • Chigirl says:

Yes, vertigo can be absolutely awful. I had a bad episode of vertigo that lasted for about 3 months starting out of the blue. I kind of passed out, fell back, and felt disoriented then I started vomiting. The world was at a tilt, I could barely walk without holding onto the walls. I couldn’t drive, I barely ate, and sleeping or laying down didn’t really help either because I felt a spinning sensation even then. Medication prescribed didn’t help. It was also very difficult to work, I’m a nurse and work with neurologists who told me that it’s very difficult to find the exact cause because by the time you’ve had numerous tests the condition often resolves itself. I wouldn’t wish vertigo on my worst enemy. I still occasionally get dizzy if I move too quickly or look up at something.

    • bluevelvet says:

Yes, vertigo can be very disabling. I was thrown out of a vehicle during an accident. I was 24 years old, and acquired severe vertigo for the first year. I still have vertigo, but I never used it as an excuse to not work. I am sorry that happened to him, but I have three words for him: Social Security Disability — get it.

  3. Ashley says:

Good for her for keeping those thumbs!

    • justagirl says:

As someone who has the same type of thumbs & grew up hearing kids say “eeuww what happened to your thumbs?” I am surprised to see an adult do the same.

      • stinky says:

what kind? im sure they are fine 🙂

      • Solsolito says:

@ Justagirl: I hate those comments too. It’s mean-spirited and juvenile. There’s nothing wrong her thumbs just the people who have nothing better to do than to comment on something so innocuous. On behalf of any dumb@ss comments that will invariably come, I apologize. You shouldn’t have to deal with that cr@p.

    • Bell says:

In the first picture of Meaghan is that a recovering bad bruise on her right arm?

  4. Betti says:

As someone who suffers from Vertigo i sympathise with BAG but it can be treated and managed so am sure he will be back at work soon.

Didn’t he sue his ex (and mother of his first born) for a substantial amount of money? Claiming he gave it to her as a loan? Guy is a first class douche.

    • Tilly says:

Yes … Vanessa Marcil … but he waited too long and the judge threw it out of court (after which she went after him for her legal fees). The amount in question was $200k … she’d been in and out of work and fell on hard times (was on General Hospital and Melrose Place [the original], so should’ve been earning good money and been able to save up???), and he apparently loaned her the money to get back on her feet.

      • K says:

Um that isn’t want happened she wasn’t on melrose either. She was on 90210 with him and he made her redo her teeth. She was also the one working when they were together she was on Las Vegas for 5 years. Also the judge threw the case out of court because the case was unfounded and the judge encouraged her to go after legal fees. This was per every article about the case.

      • Nancy says:

I remember her. They had baby Cassius together. She looks similar to Megan. He definitely has a type.

      • Tilly says:

@K – yes, my mistake. She was on BH, not MP.
I didn’t hear about her making her re-do her teeth but I’m not surprised – a lot of ‘revealed Blinds’ paint him to be a controlling bafoon.

@Nancy – he sure does (have a type). Vanessa is a very attractive lady.

  5. Tilly says:

It’s terrible that he’s suffering from that – in interviews I’ve seen with him in recent times he has seemed a bit ‘off’ and his condition does certainly sound scary. If he can’t work then he’s pretty much stuck!

I’m not from the States so don’t know how the whole accident liability side of things plays out, but what say if the other driver didn’t have insurance or any money? Maybe that was the case? Where I’m from, a government body would step in and make payments to the claimant – there’s no such thing as being able to sue the other party … but that’s not ideal as the money paid out is often only a small amount.

    • chaine says:

Tilly, every state in the U.S. has different laws. I’m not from California, but if he lived in my state, he would have been required to buy himself what is called “uninsured motorist coverage.” The purpose of that is for just the situation you describe–if the driver that hits you has no insurance, then your own insurance will cover you. Not to say that there will not still be a lengthy claims process where the insurer will try its best to pay you as little as possible…

      • bettyrose says:

In CA you’re only required to buy liability. However, he sounds like a candidate for state disability insurance. That’s not a lavish lifestyle, but it also qualifies him for job training programs and employment assistance.

      • Savannah says:

If his car was hit head on by a drunk driver going 50mph & he suffered an injury, regardless of whether or not the other driver had enough insurance or any insurance at all, his insurance company would be responsible for medical bills. This includes future medical costs. In my experience, insurance companies typically play “hard ball” when there is a serious legal question, but serious accidents like this are much less common are are handled different from your standard low speed rear end collision. Of course folks will have anecdotal evidence to suggest otherwise, but this is my experience dealing with this day in and day out.

  6. Jayna says:

He dropped out of a TV show and looks thin. I don’t think he is feeling well. I remember a woman suffering severe vertigo problems from a fall. She said some tips a specialist she ultimately found helped. It gave her the necessary tools on how to deal with it and alleviate some of the symptoms, but it took quite a while to get the vertigo under control, which did affect her life. I don’t know if she was also on medication.

I remember a personal injury lawsuit where a guy got hit from behind, a slow impact, but it caused something to happen to his brain. He would get dizzy at the dinner table if someone even passed a bowl in front of him. It was that bad, and It was very sad. I forget the name of the syndrome. It altered his life forever.

    • Joan says:

It makes you wonder if, due to the accident and taking from the example you described, if BAG didn’t have some personality change due to neurological damage. That could definitely play a factor in the separation, especially if he’s acting like a different person. Never been a huge BAG fan but I wish the guy well.

    • Talie says:

Yeah, normally I would be eye-rolling, but I saw a pic of him recently…he didn’t look good.

      • qwerty says:

There are pics of him from the beggining of august on zimbio where he’s getting out of a car and going to the gym though

    • bluevelvet says:

It’s called Meniere’s disease. The typical symptoms are hearing loss and vertigo. It waxes and wanes, like Lupus, or other autoimmune disorders. Some good days, some bad days. I do wish him well…it can really be hell at times. especially like when you’re trying to shower and wash your hair…just leaning the head back to get rinsed can result in the room spinning and even a fall. I still think he needs to file Social Security Disability if he’s so affected that he can no longer work.

  7. michkabibbles says:

I wonder how much he gets in royalties from Beverly Hills 90210? That was several years ago, but that show was everywhere for a long time, and it’s now on Hulu.plus. I would think it adds up to a pretty penny.

    • perplexed says:

That’s what I was wondering about. I assumed he was rich because of 90210 money that could have been invested well. I also assumed the others from 90210 weren’t dumb enough to spend it all like Tori Spelling.

    • Tilly says:

Do they still get royalty payments though? Tori Spelling always seems to be broke; Jenni Garth seemed to be heading that way too …

I may be wrong on this, but I thought that syndication / royalty payments weren’t a given … they have to be negotiated by the actor’s agent?

      • Joan says:

I think royalty payments expire at some point, or they become ridiculously small. My head is going blank but I read someone’s autobiography where they talked about receiving a royalty cheque for 21 cents. Crazy! The said actor didn’t have the heart to take it to the bank to get cashed.

      • qwerty says:

lol Tori is broke cause she;’s an idiot. Also, she’s not broke cause I just saw her pics today walking out of a beauty clinic after someserious skin treatment.

    • Neah23 says:

Royalty payments do expire his was probably up 10 years ago if he even had a royalty deal. If I remember right Jen A friends Royalty payments expired about 7 years ago.

    • Talie says:

90210 isn’t on the Friends level, so I doubt they get much — it also doesn’t run on any major networks like Friends, Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory, etc.

  8. meme says:

what HUGE movies is she starring in? I check IMDB and she’s got nothing except for a Ninja Turtle movie.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Transformers but she was more eye candy than anything else. But she was probably paid very well. She hasn’t been in anything huge for while. Not to mention What slowed Megan’s career was Megan- not being married.

      • Nancy says:

She is a pretty girl. I remember when people found out she was with him and were shocked…..ppl meaning those of us who remember him from his 90210 nerd days.

    • Tate says:

I was wondering the same thing.

    • Div says:

She probably makes good backend/royalties from the final gross of the Turtles movie and Transformers.

      • Neah23 says:

Just because you in a film/ Tv show dose not mean you get royalties. Also Megan was not the star in Transformers or Turtles movies she was just a pinup girl, so she not getting any backend or royalties money. Not to mention you have to be at a section level before you can even ask a studio for backend and royalties.

    • Tilly says:

She’s (allegedly) going to return for Transformers now that she’s made up with Michael Bay.

    • Talie says:

Endorsements are probably where her money comes from.

    • lucy2 says:

I doubt either of them makes a ton of money.
He probably made good money, he was on a hit show for 10 years and probably still gets some residuals if it’s still airing somewhere, but ever since then he’s bounced around TV shows for years.
She does a movie or 2 a years, and probably doesn’t get paid a ton for them, and I doubt she’s getting any kind of deal on the profits.

  9. Div says:

I feel bad for her. She was so lovely, and she went Nicole Kidman on her face. Not to mention male stars have said much, much worse and everyone laughs it off, she does it and her career is nearly over. I’ve always side-eyed him for hooking up with her when she was 18 and he was 30 something too.

A good move for her would be to do TV and some supporting roles in mid-budget films. She won’t be able to carry a film and Blake Lively, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Margot Robbie, and a few others are out there doing the bombshell roles that she used to inhabit but she can do supporting work.

    • FingerBinger says:

Blake Lively and Rosie Huntington-Whitley are carrying films? Since when?

      • meme says:

Yeah, since when? I didn’t even know RHW made movies and Blake Lively’s last one tanked.

      • Anonamonapia says:

She didn’t say they were carrying films, just that they’re now doing the eye candy roles that used to be Megan’s forte.

      • Jegede says:

        @FingerBinger

Div did not say they were carrying films. LOL.

Rather they are some of those name checked as the bombshell SUPPORTING roles.

Although Blake Lively’s Adaline (along with The DUFF) was one of the few Lionsgate movies that was a hit this year.

  10. tinyfencer says:

She’ll be on the hook for child support, too, not just spousal support, right?

    • supposedtobeworking says:

and probably the sole custodial parent. There’s no way he would get custody of the kids if he can’t get out of bed or has a medical issue that puts their safety at risk. This will be interesting to watch. If he really does have vertigo, he will need someone present when he has the kids. If he doesn’t have it that severely, or at all, thats a crappy gamble for spousal support because you lose the kids.
I hope he recovers, chronic illness is hard on everyone in a family.

  11. Anon says:

I wonder if the shoe were on the other foot, would he be divorcing her? Is that her PR spinning that about her career so she doesn’t look bad about leaving someone injured by a drunk driver? Vertigo is awful, I hope the other driver had insurance but if it was a drunk…probably not.

  12. Anon says:

Here’s where I have an issue, he wants her home more and working less. Yet, she’s supporting the family financially because he can’t work and now he wants her to continue supporting him with the money from her big bad career. BAG wants to have his cake and eat it too, he sounds like a controlling douche.

  13. d says:

So, divorcing b/c he wants her home but she needs to work to support him bec of his condition? Doesnt make sense…

  14. word says:

Regardless of his injury, he’d be entitled to spousal support as she makes a lot more money than him…unless they had a pre-nup.

    • bettyrose says:

I know this was discussed yesterday but why is a lower earning spouse entitled to support? In CA, divorcing couples split the marital assets that were accumulated during marriage. That’s fair, but why in the world is an adult entitled to ongoing financial support (other than child support) from a former spouse?? Get.a.job. Go back to school on loans if you need to learn a trade. Do what everyone who didn’t have a rich spouse does.

Edited to add: Google CA spousal support. It looks to me like it’s only awarded in cases where the non-earning spouse gave up working to support the other’s career, raise children, or contributed to their professional education. Simply not working or earning less does not make one eligible for spousal support.

  15. Nancy says:

I feel bad for David Silver aka Brian A Green…..everyone knew they wouldn’t celebrate a 25 year anniversary, but now vertigo. The curse of the original 90210 cast continues……dum dum dum …thought I read somewhere Shannon Doherty had breast cancer, hope it’s not true.

  16. K says:

Umm what in roles has she been in demand for? I mean not for nothing while she gets more attention he has worked more and more steadily then she has.

She also can’t act and has jacked up her face, not to mention she has a bad reputation and can’t open a movie that isn’t a Michael bay explosion flick that she is eye candy. Nothing against her but let’s be real she isn’t in demand for talent and she is getting to old for the hot side piece.

  17. MyHiddles says:

If he truly has veritgo from a car accident, then I really feel for him. I was hit by a texting driver from behind when I was at a stoplight and have multiple neurological deficiencies since then. Nothing that keeps me from working though. I also have episodes of vertigo because they believe one of the bones in my left ear was moved. But my episodes are short-lived and I’ve talked to people who have episodes that last for months and i can’t even imagine how horrible that is. I might get a few 2-3 minutes episodes a day for a few days at a time every 3 or 4 months and that’s it.

If mine becomes debilitating I may have some hope for a surgical cure, but its just doesn’t interfere with my life enough for insurance to pay for it now. Maybe someday.

  18. Jezza says:

Awww. This gives me the sads. Not that I really care, but I like them together, and they’ve been a couple for a while.

Just stay away from Shia LeDouche, Megan!!!

  19. lola says:

Oh Megan, what are we gonna do with this?

  20. funcakes says:

    Well,that went smoothly.
