Chrissy Teigen joked about not hiring ‘hot nannies’ and really regrets it

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen is preparing to host a show, FABLife, with Tyra Banks. She recently spoke with Huffington Post about how she lets Twitter trolls get under her skin too much. Chrissy previously took a hiatus from the social media site when she received death threats last fall. That’s not what she’s referring to here. Chrissy’s admitting that she tends to snap at people, but she says, “Sometimes it might be the 500th time that day that I read that similar comment, so yes, maybe I snapped on that one person.” She’s trying to work on being less reactionary. Twitter sounds like a real drag for a famous person.

This story, which is already a few days old, ties in with Chrissy’s Twitter obsession. She joked around about the recent rash of famous guys cheating with their nannies. I guess People asked her when she wanted to have kids, and this came out instead:

Chrissy Teigen and her husband, John Legend, may not have kids yet, but the model already has one part of her parenting plan mapped out. “No hot nannies, drivers or maids,” Teigen said at Lauren Conrad’s New York Fashion Week show. “It’s an ongoing joke in my house. I do want kids one day, so it’s something that I have to think about. But the rule is no hot nannies. I trust John, but you never know with these men.”

While Teigen seemed adamant about not having any desirable women around her hubby, she may have already broken her own rule. The 29-year-old quickly remembered her “hot assistant.” “It’s too late for me though, because I have a hot assistant – she is cute,” the Sports Illustrated cover girl said.

Good looks aside, Teigen joked that in the end there might be no stopping some guys. “These days, it doesn’t really matter what you look like – sometimes cabin fever just strikes and men do the do. I have to keep an eye on my assistant. No, damn,” she said. “Christine, you’re done!”

[From People]

She was only messing around and having some fun with the press, yet so many outlets picked up on the story. I don’t see John Legend getting busy with a hot nanny, really. People who don’t like Chrissy would love to see it happen though. People started laughing at her in the wrong way, and Chrissy tried to clarify the joke on Twitter.

Days later, Chrissy is still receiving media grief for the joke, so she’s making amends, sort of.

Well I will hire a hot nanny if he also let’s me hire a hot bodyguard 😉

    • smith says:

I don’t want to like her, but dammit I kinda do. She’s sassy and not an idiot. I do think she needs to take a step back from social media, especially as she’s a bit polarizing (in looks, humor) and over-shares a lot, and there are trolls hiding behind every bush. It’s bound to get to even the best of us. It’s like the one moment when you’re vulnerable someone will find their way into your zen and try to wreck it.

To sum up – Chrissy, be the cool gal I know you can be and stop caring whether or not you’re loved by people you don’t even know …you know?

  2. Matador says:

Really don’t get the widespread fascination with this gal. She’s as interesting a dryer lint.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hear you, but why should she be fascinating? She’s hired for her great body and not offensive face. She’s a model. Why do we expect them to have a certain personality or intellect?

      • Matador says:

Why do we care about her Twitter if she’s just a model? Obviously, she has transcended that industry hence: My question.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ah, I see what you meant. Sorry, I sometimes board the wrong train.

      • Esmom says:

Lol @ “not offensive face.” Apt description…I’ll have to remember that one! 🙂

      • Franca says:

She’s been hosting two shows and is about to get a talk show. She isn’t the Kate Moss “seen not heard” type of model.

      • Colette says:

I like her on her new show FABlife that premiered yesterday. So she interesting enough to producers and focus groups to work consistently.

      • Bridget says:

        “Not offensive face” hahaha!

      • FLORC says:

        GNAT
Becuse some people think she’s interesting.

        Colette
Most anyone can get a show these days. It doesn’t mean you’re interesting enough for a show. It means there’s a desire to produce shows for cheap with names attached.

    • Stacey says:

Ah, Chrissie is everything. Witty, obviously beautiful, has a pretty humble, well adjusted approach to life, and well….have you seen her legs? Plus, if John Legend –who is no dummy– finds her captivating, she’s worth a second look from anyone. I love her kind spirit.

      • Franca says:

She’s not witty. She has a goofy sense of humour which isn’t funny most of the time. She’s just annoying. Has anyone seen the cooking show she did for MTV? She was beyond annoying there. Everyone was beyong annoying in that show.

As for John Legend, he’s not that big in my country, I only know that whiny love song with Chrissy in the video, so I’ll take your word for it.

      • QQ says:

I find her as one that tries TOO HARD to be that “funny Cool Girl” that Guys are hot for .. One of the Guys but sexy

      • Erinn says:

Yeah, who doesn’t love a good joke downplaying shootings right after they happened?

I’m with QQ – she’s way too try hard. She wants so badly to be seen as a hot funny girl, but when people call her out on her offensiveness or dumbness, she throws a hissy fit. She wants SO BADLY to be that girl.

      • Wren says:

Perhaps someone once told her she was the hot, funny girl and she’s just tried to be that ever since. I’ve seen it happen, someone gives you a label that you like but don’t feel you quite fit, but you want to and so try to live up to it ever after.

I don’t really have any particular feelings about her. Many famous people try too hard.

      • Asiyah says:

Yes! QQ is right. She tries too hard!

      • Bread and Circuses says:

Well, I at least agree with you Stacey. She seems funny and nice. 😀

      • claire says:

Well, humor and wittiness is subjective. She’s got thousands and thousands of followers who think she’s pretty funny.

      • FLORC says:

        claire
How many of those accounts are active or remembered that they follow her and check her twitters?
I know my account gives me some notifications and I follow about 20 people, but only check the feeds on maybe 5 once or twice a month.

      • claire says:

@florc: Obviously I wouldn’t know. I imagine all celebs have some amount of spam followers, or inactive followers. Not sure what that has to do with all the faves and replies she gets.

I can say that when she does interactive posts, she gets tons of responses, so she’s obviously got lots of active followers. Such as when she had people send her their most embarrassing pic, when she did the Twitter cooking night, and a few others I can’t think of. Twitter cooking night was especially fun. She had picked a recipe she was gonna do and encouraged everyone to do it too. IIRC, pretty much everyone including her were drunk cooking, so the ‘fail’ photos sent in of people’s cooking efforts were as entertaining as the successes.

I think one of the reasons people like her is that she shows a lot of sides; she doesn’t just put forth a beautiful life image, or heavy PR responses. She shares all the dumb stuff she does and lets people make fun of her. She’s also pretty good at trolling the trolls.

      • moomoo says:

In response to those who think she tries too hard — what’s wrong with trying hard? I think making an effort in whatever you do is a great quality in a person.

      • FLORC says:

        claire
A reply or number on a follower does not count as people actively supporting her. Retweets could be to share something that offends. I took a peek at her social media. It’s fairly light. I wouldn’t say she’s got a lot of support to her.
A loyal core fanbase sure. And the more she engages them the more they stay.

Another type of follower… Reporters/paps looking for scoops to screen capture before the tweet delete.

    • MrsB says:

I think she’s much more interesting than most models/actresses actually. Her Twitter feed is pretty funny.

      • Naddie says:

Plus, she has a round face. How many models have it? I’m not making fun of her, I really like it.

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Her Instagram is pretty solid. I appreciate that she eats actual food and shows it off. Is it try-hard?..ehh.. I dont care if it is or not. She is cute, fun and harmless. I might start DVRing Fablife. A friend of mine is one of the producers and it looks cute/interesting enough IMO.

      • Petunia says:

Agree. People who don’t find her funny can simply not follow her via Twitter. For those who claim she doesn’t interest them and are speaking from the articles they read via entertainment blogs, maybe don’t click on the subject you find unfunny and try hard😄.

    • GreenieWeenie says:

really? I think she’s interesting. She makes the news all the time for her big mouth and she’s not Gisele smug…I think she’s funny. JMO.

      • Bnbn says:

        Interesting? That face is “interesting”
“She makes the news all the time for her big mouth.” Because she is an attention seeker. She is funny? No. But it was funny when she “quit” Twitter.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

I don’t think she is an attention seekers. Having social media is a requirement nowadays, a means to keep yourself out in the open.

    • tealily says:

I don’t know, she seems pretty funny. I think I like her.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

LOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL agreed as “interesting as dryer lint”

    • EM says:

      Yes!
I don’t see how she is a model. She is not even photogenic.

  3. Jess says:

“I’ll hire two hot nannies as penance”, that’s pretty funny!

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

i think she was clearly joking and people are just picking nits.

    • grumpy bird says:

Agreed. I’m pretty sensitive to the whole “don’t hire young/attractive nannies” thing but even I got that she was joking.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Agreed. A lot of people made the same joke – can’t blame her for making it, especially in context of what she does for a living.

  5. Nancy says:

I thought it was funny, not haha funny but I got it. Don’t understand why people take things like this so literally. I think she’s pretty and funny. Nice combo John.

    • H says:

Me too. She’s my celebrity crush these days.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

There are people who simply can’t recognize jokes, ever – especially those put in writing. I read yesterday that Demi Lovato got tons of shit, because after being asked what is her favorite dish, she made a stupid, punny joke and said it’s a mug. People were calling her stupid, ignorant et al. and she had to explain herself on Twitter. Some people, seriously.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That’s pretty sad – people too stupid to recognize a pun calling her stupid. Sheesh.

      • claire says:

Funny. That got posted on Reddit, got tons of comments, and the majority thought that even if was an honest mistake, that it was much more fun than the typical boring questions answered by celebs. Twitter sure was being cranky about it then!

  6. NewWester says:

What about the ” hot” cooks, drivers, interior designers, etc? If someone is going to cheat they will. You either trust your partner or you don’t. Plus what is considered “hot” ? Anyone remember Arnold Schwarzenegger and the housekeeper?

  7. sarah says:

I like her a lot, but I worry for her a bit with her new show FabLife. It’s a talk show so a huge time slot to “snap”. To her credit, it seems she likes to right her wrongs asap & uses twitter for it… that can be exhausting Chrissy!

  8. daisyfly says:

Can I hire her husband to be my hot Manny?

  9. Ronda says:

As if famous women dont get involved with the help. Heidi Klum as the most obvious example and i dont think Jennifer Lawrence hires her bodyguards based on their CV. married women cheating with their yoga teacher or fitness trainer are so common its almost a Cliché.

it creates that image as if women werent visual and as if only men have sexual desires. i thought we had left that behind us.

  10. Alicia says:

“I don’t see John Legend getting busy with a hot nanny, really.”

Entertainers are narcissists, and male entertainers are narcissists who have women constantly throwing themselves at them. Johnny Legend ain’t Johnny Faithful – I’d bet money on it. Hell, he’s probably already nailed the hot assistant.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Well taking a stereotype and making an overwhelming generalization with it is a bit melodramatic. I think he is a romantic who is obsessed/very in love with her. Not saying theirs, or any marriage that begins this way, is absolutely foolproof, but come on. Can’t be that cynical to assume he has already banged her asst while he was in the middle of writing “All your perfect imperfections..you’re my end and my beginning, even when I lose, I’m winning” about Chrissy.

    • funcakes says:

I’m going to think he’s more a cliche because it seems the majority of the musicians to marry models. But most everything in the music business is clinched.
And like most marriages in that crazy business has about 10 percent chance of lasting and he will be on to his next model in five to seven years.

  11. Pizzaface says:

Come on, she IS funny! But because she is also pretty, people give her a hard time everytime she goes politically incorrect (I mean: how dare she, she has it all, right?!!)

  12. Shelley says:

I generally find this woman so annoying. I honestly do not get the fuss about her face or body. Clearly anyone can be a top model…meh.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

I was the same @Shelley. They was something about her that seemed so try-hard & annoying. But, after watching her on “Lip Sync Battles” and seeing her in a few interviews I now find her to be genuinely funny and charming. I like that she has an unusual face that isn’t traditionally beautiful. She has the right amount of hustle without taking herself too seriously.

  13. Kreacher says:

I doubt Jennifer Garner is laughing, too much truth in it so no wonder her ‘joke’ is being taken seriously.

  14. Isa says:

I can’t even imagine going through and reading all the comments I got on Twitter if I were a celebrity. What a waste of time.

    • Ronda says:

yeah i once read some replies to celeb tweets and it was mainly just “HI” “FOLLOW ME PLS” “OMG”
what would you make of 156,000 replies like that?

    • claire says:

Yeah, but sometimes the funniest stuff is when she trolls them. Oh man, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard than when she told the story of her uncle dying from marijuana.

    • funcakes says:

I agree. The only way to survive would be to just promote whatever you have to and just keep it business like.

  15. Marie-France says:

I have never found her pretty, but she is funny! Every time I read about this woman she is making excuses For joking. Why? This is not an offensive joke, People need to loosen up.

  16. Beth says:

I think Chrissy is hilarious, but the majority of people doesn’t get her jokes. Nevermind! I also love her recipes.

  17. Vic says:

Why is this woman a thing? I don’t get her fame. She’s one notch above kardashian vapidness. Eh.

    • IcyBlue says:

She is not, though. She is pretty funny and witty and striking looks. One major difference, she became famous through her profession. Are models one notch above the Kardashians now?

      • icy says:

Her profession? You mean her marriage. Nobody knew of her until she marry John. They call her a supermodel, really? She was one of the many No Deal or Deal girls. NEXT!!

  18. KikiGee says:

I follow her on IG now and I find her refreshingly unpretentious. She seems fairly light and breezy and doesn’t appear to take things too seriously.
As for the hot nanny joke? Made me laugh.

    • Naddie says:

It’s a bit annoying and unfair that breezy people who don’t take things seriously have so much money and recognition. Talk about a stupid, shallow world.

      • claire says:

I think KikiGee is just pointing out that Chrissy tries not to take things too seriously, and has some perspective. She’s not dumb. Neither is John. Far from it. And they do good things with their fame. John does tons of charity around his music career. Him and Chrissy do things together to make a difference: Did you know that they hired food carts to park nearby and give food for free to the protestors in NYC that were protesting police brutality? They didn’t even seek publicity for that. It was one of the food cart owners that eventually outed them.

  19. Naddie says:

She made a joke that was clearly a joke. I just can’t with these haters, and I don’t like her at all.

  20. Mimz says:

Well i love Chrissy even if she can be a little extra, i have said that joke as well, like in my country lots of men end up banging the housemaids who, knowing this, come to work with the skimpiest outfits and when they wear their uniform they will loose buttons, never wear bras, and always clean the floor in very suggestive positions (on your knees and cleaning very thoroughly when boss is around). I have heard terrible stories like that.

Anyway back to Chrissy i would hardly call her unaccomplished, shes a successful model, tv host, has an amazing cooking blog and is about to release a cookbook (seriously check it out everything looks amazing!), and shes funny. In my mind shes my imaginary bff. I can identify with her brand of sarcasm.
Oh and shes married to John and they seem to have lots of fun. Their babies will be so cute!!!

    • claire says:

And she introduced us to the hilarity of PepperThai!! 😉

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Exactly. She is a smart business woman who is extending her career options to projects that focus on more than her looks, which is brilliant. And she is fun. I think some people are jealous of others who seem to have it all.

  21. funcakes says:

Shes a model who’s use to her inner circle laughing at her jokes. It’s when she steps out of her inner circle things get real and the bad mean people are not use to her kind if humor.

Did anyone else see the commercials for the new show she’s in? Tyra is pissing all over Chrissy and marking her spots. How about the phony prat fall where she spills wine on Chrissy? This is going to be epic.

  22. MSat says:

Thanks to the Internet, social media and the thought police that is the politically correct language brigade, we’re witnessing the death of the sense of humor. It’s rather sad.

  23. perplexed says:

I don’t necessarily find her fascinating or extremely beautiful, but I do think she’s funny and has a sense of humour, which I wouldn’t expect from a model. I can’t really picture Cindy Crawford making any kind of joke, even though she’s not stiff or uptight. Ditto for all those other models. I can’t even picture Miranda Kerr joking about hot nannies. So in that sense I think Tiegen is a bit “different.” In her world, do people know how to make jokes even if they enjoy other people’s jokes? A lot of models are dull when you see them being interviewed. Even Tyra Banks isn’t really that funny, and she talks a lot. The only interesting one I can think of is Cameron Diaz , and she didn’t even stay a model.

  24. M.A.F. says:

That is the one take away from a lot of Hollywood divorces- don’t hire hot nannies. She wasn’t lying about that.

  25. Kelly says:

You know, it’s really not her fault she’s gorgeous. I think she’s adorable and she has a sense of humor which is saying a whole lot more about her than most of the mindless celebs we all read about. All she is doing is saying what women really think.

  26. Tacos and TV says:

I know I am going to “Mean Girl” hell but I can’t stand her face. She looks like grumpy cat. I know, I know, I’m mean, but she looks like a smiling grumpy cat. Ugh. She’s like the eyebrows in that Seinfeld episode when unlce leo draws his eyebrows in with a marker and everyone thinks he’s mad… she is the eyebrows. It’s her face though. So even she does her thirsty try hardness bullsh*t and it actually is funny, I can’t laugh because she looks like grumpy cat with struggle ‘brows!

    • EN says:

Her face looks unnatural to me. I think it is clear she had some work done, so it just looks strange. I don’t know what she looked like before but I tend to think she looked better.
Even in faces which are not pretty there are certain natural proportions , which get lost with plastic surgery.

    • elle says:

Totally agree. She reminds me of Chucky from the Child’s Play movies.

  27. lrm says:

What on earth could people possibly find offensive about her hot nanny joke?
As for Demi Lovato’s mug joke-people really didn’t get her play on words? Puns are a dying breed, it seems. And then people saying ‘oh, even if it was an honest mistake, at least it was ‘different’. smh againt a wall!!!! This is our level of creative and critical thinking, en masse? Like we all need to have a group consensus chat to come to a ‘conclusion’ and find a ‘box’ to put something in so that it is deemed ‘acceptable’….. Creepy group thought-very insidious and subtle. It’s pretty funny, though, to see people call someone out on something b/c they didn’t get it, not b/c the person who said it made a mistake. LOL

  28. Velvet Elvis says:

Loved her for years when she started appearing on The Dan Patrick Show, before she became a name. She’s so fun and full of personality. I can see where people might find her annoying though…

    • EN says:

She comes across as a nice and funny person, pleasant to be around but who is not very bright and who puts too much self-worth into looks, which is going to hurt her as she starts to age.

  29. Josefa says:

I think she’s gorgeous and I for one think she’s pretty funny. She’s a bit of an attention-wh*re but I don’t seem to mind that as much as most people here. I mean… we’re talking about celebs in a gossip forum. I seriously can’t figure out why you’d regularly post in a site like this if people who constantly want commentary around them bother you so much.

  30. Cinderella says:

I like her sense of humor. Nannies aside, there’s no doubt Chrissy and John have hot sex, so I’m jealous.

  31. FLORC says:

Honestly, I don’t like her. She’s offensive in her humor and behavior. The gun jokes, the domestic abuse jokes. The vag berries. It’s all trying too hard and not being able to think before she says.
And wasn’t she talking about quitting social media because so many people told her why her comments were offensive and she had no rebuttal? She snapped at people and quit. There were threats, but I remember over the public shooting in Canada people called her humor out as in poor taste and she couldn’t handle it.

And with QQ. She tries so hard to be the cool hot girl. There’s a Amy schumer sketch about those girls that fits her perfectly.

  32. EN says:

I get it that it is a joke but in every joke there is a kernel of truth, that is what makes it funny. And it comes across as pretty offensive towards her husband and men in general.

I actually been told the same thing by women in real life and they weren’t joking. And I thought to myself – wow, if you trust your husband that much (i.e. not at all ) why are you with him?
