Lady Gaga in structural Brandon Maxwell at the Emmys: surprisingly amazing?

Don’t get me wrong, I actually like the fact that Lady Gaga’s latest incarnation is “old-school glamour.” But I don’t really understand why she was at the Emmys to present an award? Even Richard Jenkins was like “Why am I getting an award from Lady Gaga?” Gaga wore this structural Brandon Maxwell gown in black. I honestly love it. The cut is spectacular, it’s flattering, the structured piece at the side of the skirt is interesting and she looked great overall. If I’m nitpicking, it’s only that she probably could have used a few more pieces of jewelry, like one or two big cocktail rings, possible some bigger earrings. But otherwise, her styling was on point. This is probably the prettiest/classiest she’s ever looked. Well done, Gaga.

Speaking of keeping it simple and classy, I also loved Kate McKinnon’s simple Badgley Mischka gown. I feel like many of comedienne ladies are wary of going full-throttle fashion girl, and they struggle to find a happy-medium of looking pretty but not trying too hard. This is a great compromise. Kate’s dress was flattering, she kept her hair and makeup simple and she seemed very comfortable.

And here’s Allison Janney in La Bourjoisie. I hated this dress. Allison would have benefitted from taking a cue from Kate and Gaga (I can’t believe I just wrote that) and gone for something simpler. This is more pageant-girl than anything else.

Gaga was there cause of American Horror Story.
And I think Jenkins was kinda fanboying.
I thought she was lovely and elegant., and I much rather see her like this, than in a micro mini made of meat.

“But I don’t really understand why she was at the Emmys to present an award?”

The Emmys aired on Fox, which owns FX – where Gaga is starring on “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Whichever network airs the show usually stacks it with their talent. Andy Samberg was the host because his show is on Fox; Seth Meyers hosted last year’s show on NBC since he is NBC talent.

Adding: Gaga looked good, though I’m not crazy about the sculptured hip hood.

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lady Gaga looks very pretty. That face in the second picture is cracking me up, though. That’s the face I make when I hear soap opera music – gazing off into the distance pretending you don’t know someone is snapping your picture – just a beautiful woman alone in thought…

  4. Lamppost says:

Looks like she has had some work done. Her face is different.

    • Jayna says:

She uses face tape to change the shape of her face at times. She does her lips but they weren’t as big last night. The makeup and hair were perfection. They did a much softer makeup pallette than they’ve ever done on her before.

      • Shambles says:

Face… Tape? What is this? Did Kylie Jenner have something to do with it? I’m scared. Hold me.

      • Kitten says:

Seriously? Face tape? Get the eff outta here with that sh*t.

      • hadlyB says:

Look again she has done filler, nose, chin etc. Her eyes are much smaller than when she first came out — her cheek area is much different.

Tape? This isn’t Joan Crawford era come on. Its obvious when you look at before pics.

      • Kitten says:

I’m not sure whether it’s tape or not, I just think the idea of people taping their face is freakin weird.

She changes her look a lot it seems, whether through wigs, plastic surgery, tape…

      • Jayna says:

@Kitten, here’s what Gaga said. And she once gave a demonstration to her fans on twitter or somewhere.

“She explained her morning ritual and said, “When I have my wig cap on and I’m taping my face, it’s a sort of meditation for me. Every day, it starts the same way. It’s like a mantra. I wash my face, I pin my hair back and put on a wig cap and I ask, ‘How am I going to form my eyes today with this tape? How will I pull back my neck with tape?”
The 28-year-old “Poker Face” singer continued, “Looking artificial can be honest. Being glamorous can come from a place of authenticity and a place of love.”
Unfortunately, what Lady Gaga may not realize is that the “facelift” tape is leaving her skin and face with some serious side effects.”

      • Kitten says:

        That’s nuts, Jayna!
I think I’ve seen that tape stuff advertised before now that you mention it. Crazy that someone as young as she is would use it but I guess if it works for her?
        *shrugs*

    • pretty says:

her nose has gotten smaller and smaller over the years it seems like. and contouring can only do so much. a profile view of her face has changed.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Looks like another nose augmentation. She is such a phony and disingenuous, so much for being “born this way.”

  5. Giddy says:

Gaga looked ao elegant. It was lovely to see her in such classic understatement instead of arriving in an egg or some other contrived mess.

    • vauvert says:

I did a double take seeing her. She looked fabulous!

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I agree. Similar to when she performed the Sound of Music medley at the Oscars, I think the crowd was again taken aback bc she is shockingly pretty without all that garbage on her face and head. Nice turn of events for her image and I hope she keeps it up. It’s refreshing. (Miley should be taking notes for when she is over the shock factor thing in a couple years.)

  6. Crumpet says:

Gaga’s dress – arg. The bumps on the right side show the structural support for that monstrosity jutting from her left hip. Really, there are no words. Or maybe – the flying nun meets the LBD?

  7. lower-case deb says:

i get the theory behind the hip hand rest, but…

    well. i guess it’s practical.

  8. boredblond says:

Gaga looks surprisingly classy; Allison J’s dress is sort of sci-fi B costume meets Grecian urn

  9. We Are All Made of Stars says:

Gaga is probably one of the best dressed for sure. I feel bad though that she’s starting to have that plastic surgery look to her. I liked that she had a schnoz and wasn’t perfect. I wish she had gone the Barbara Streisand route. 🙁

    • Clovermuncher says:

I totally agree. I love seeing natural faces. They’re always so much more interesting to look at. Same goes for her hair color. That over bleached look does nothing for me.

    • Jayna says:

She always lies and swears she hasn’t had a nose job. But makeup and shading does still make a difference on how her nose looks. I’ve seen recent up close selfies with little makeup and her nose is not small. She might have tweaked it a tiny bit.

Her face gets that plastic surgery look because she will often use face tape pulling her face tight and changing her eyes a bit too with it, at times. She showed a video of how they put it on her before doing her hair and makeup.

      • Illyra says:

Does she honestly claim not to have had a nose job (or several)? LOL

Jennifer Lopez I could believe… you can see the contouring from space. Gaga though? No.

  10. lucy2 says:

I wouldn’t like Gaga’s on anyone else, but for her it’s good.
I love Allison and am happy for her, but that design on the dress looks like something that might be taught in health class.

  11. Keddie says:

The pattern on that last dress looks like an artistic representation of the female reproductive system

  12. Sally says:

Gaga’s dress is glorious – the only criticism is that I’m not totally convinced about the deep dip on her left-hand side to display the tats. Apart from that, she looks fantastic.

  13. layla says:

Is it just me? Or does she look like Kim k in the face now?

  14. Snappyfish says:

    She simply looked amazing. Elegant.

  15. Naddie says:

The dress is ok, the hair and face, just terrible.

  16. mia girl says:

I love Allison Janney so much, bad dress and all.

  17. GlimmerBunny says:

She did look good, but SO different. She was more fun and prettier (facially) in the meat dress era.

  18. QQ says:

Kate McKinnon looks INCREDIBLE her hair gives me substenance!

I No longer understand what is happening with Lady Gag’s face but hwr dress is awesome and a mercy Im glad we are done with the crazy shit (im VERRRRYYY nervous about how campy is AHS Is gonna turn this season with Gaga swooning about and singing and whatnot)

    • mia girl says:

Fear not! I heard on EW radio that Gaga will not be singing in the program. Apparently Ryan Murphy said he is done with mixing music into his shows.

Now, I didn’t hear anything about Gaga not swooning about so, that could very well happen.

  19. Stacey says:

Andy Samberg was ….not good. The juvenile humor he uses just gets tiresome for adults after a few minutes.

Gaga looked incredible. Her body was slamming, skin looked like porcelain, dress was event-appropriate and one of the most interesting of the night– for all the same reasons she, herself, is one of the most interesting performers of her time: the design of the dress is just clever and has a real point of view. She has continued to amaze and keep our attention for years now.

Allison Janey is 50-plus, has a great figure for fashion and just decided to go for it. I don’t think anything about that dress’s design or color, especially, said “pageant”.

  20. Armenthrowup says:

Allison Janney is perfection and that dress is gorgeous. Gaga looks beautiful.

  21. Anare says:

Gaga is perfection. She is the ultimate chameleon.

  22. kri says:

Gaga stopped me in my tracks. The best I have ever seen her look. She’s in the top 5 of the night for me.

  23. Lisa says:

Gaga looks great! I loved her hairbow look when The Fame came out, but I love her when she goes for simple. She can pull almost anything off.

  24. FingerBinger says:

    Lady Gaga looks normal.

  25. cakecakecake says:

Gaga looks nice here, I think she was there for American Horror Story..which I love.

  26. Pumpkin Pie says:

For me, Allison Janney’s dress is fantastic. And she looks beautiful and poised.

  27. Granger says:

So, when you say Janney looks “pageanty,” I know you’re saying she looks like she’s in a beauty pageant. But the definition of a pageant is “a spectacular procession or celebration, especially one involving costumed performers or contestants.” Since the Emmys red carpet is a spectacular procession involving costumed performers, I’d say EVERY woman there looked pretty “pageanty” last night. 🙂

  28. Aren says:

Gaga is gorgeous. I’m not a fan, but I’m very happy to see that she’s going somewhere after her shock-value-work started to fail her.
She’s super talented, and pop music desperately needs somebody who can sing, and perform.

  29. Lucy says:

GaGa reminds me of Nicki Minaj in the sense that they’re both absolutely gorgeous when they get makeunders. Say what you will about her, but she knows her fashion. This gown proves it.
