The tears of an orange: John Boehner suddenly announces resignation

While we rarely write about pure politics, this breaking news story is going to dominate headlines all day, and to be fair, “John Boehner” is often used as descriptor for Orange Americans, so at least we can cling to that at a gossip level. So, you know how the Speaker of the House, John Boehner was sobbing his eyes out standing next to Pope Francis yesterday? Well, Boehner may have been crying for another reason: he has decided to resign from the Speaker position and retire from Congress.

What’s REALLY interesting is that this is apparently happening soon, like within a week or two. This isn’t John Boehner deciding not to run again in 2016. By the end of October, reportedly, Boehner will not be Speaker and he will no longer be in Congress. Which brings up the obvious questions: what kind of affair did he have and how badly did it end? I mean, that’s where everybody’s mind went, right? Like, this move seems like it was designed to get ahead of some kind of scandal. So… did the affair involve a pig?

Of course, it’s also possible that Speaker Boehner is simply exhausted with trying to deal with his own caucus, many of whom are hellbent on trying to shut down the government yet again, all over Planned Parenthood funding. Plus, Boehner is not very popular within his own caucus and there have been (failed) attempts to dethrone him from the Speaker’s position. For now, sources say that Boehner simply didn’t want to “become the issue,” although that sounds… odd. Again, what kind of affair are we talking about?

And by the way, if your politics are more progressive, this IS bad news. You know whoever gets elected Speaker after Boehner will be even more ridiculous. But they’ll probably be less orange.

Where is QQ. I repeat, where is QQ.

  2. Insomniac says:

Uh oh. Did someone have an Ashley Madison account?

But no, I’m not at all looking forward to whoever Orange Weepy Guy’s replacement will be. This isn’t good.

    • funcakes says:

That would be delicious gossip for the next two months.
It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t come off as moral majority. Well let’s see what Mr ego will say before he goes.

      • Lilacflowers says:

It’s almost ALWAYS the moral majority, family values crowd and they always resign so the party can clean up after them and appoint their replacement without ever having to face the voters

      • mayamae says:

Men on both sides of the aisle cheat. The long time joke is this: a Democrat is caught with another woman, a Republican is caught with a guy.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I am guessing it is something more common but even more shameful: taking a job in a lobbying position to use his insider knowledge for some corporate or big money organization during the 2016 election campaign. $$$$

    • belle de jour says:

“Uh oh. Did someone have an Ashley Madison account?”

I’m hoping there are pictures of a little blue plushy play with an unemployed male actor who needed the work. I’m hoping that this 23-year-old unemployed actor and aspiring model named Damon was dressed like a Smurf. I like complimentary colors.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

Did the Pope’s refusal of his lunch invitation make him decide to repent for his evil ways?

  4. David says:

See you, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  5. Colette says:

For him to resign abruptly,it was probably with a man or a teenage girl.

    • FLORC says:

Or it’s to keep this info secret rather than a soon to be released scandal.
Speaking of Scandal… I hate Olivia’s romantic choices lately… I hope it’s a fake out like the Jake’s dead cliffhanger.

“Which brings up the obvious questions: what kind of affair did he have and how badly did it end? I mean, that’s where everybody’s mind went, right? Like, this move seems like it was designed to get ahead of some kind of scandal. So… did the affair involve a pig?” I’ve read about this kind of thing, oh, I don’t know, maybe several hundred times in the last two years, so. Not holding my breath for “a scandal.” They’re pretty good at keeping things tidy and on the down low, but only when they want to.

    • Gemstone333 says:

He used to be my Congressman. I’ve heard time and again he’s a barely functioning drunk…. I’d put up even money that’s where the scandal will come from. And color me terrified who Republicans elect to replace him.

      • 7-11's Hostage says:

Is that true? I can’t believe I’ve never read that. (Speaking about only John Boehner here.)

      • Helonearth says:

If that’s the case, it could also be a serious health issue that has forced his hand.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’ve heard about the drinking issues. He’s also a heavy chain smoker so there could be some health problems.

He’s saying the Pope’s visit was a “crystallizing moment.” Maybe he finally realized he’s been doing bad things but his replacement will be just as bad

      • bluhare says:

The first thing I thought when I saw the profile pic of him on CNN just now is “that guy’s a drinker”. His nose.

      • Olenna says:

Sad to say, but I’ve always thought of him as a crying drunk.

      • funcakes says:

Yeah he has a disease. Its called doucheitius dickus. All the politicians get it sooner or later

      • laura in LA says:

Heavy drinking, chain smoking, crying buffoon with tanorexia, too…he’s one mess of a country music song.

Anyone wanna guess what kinda crazy will replace him? *Shudder to think!*

(p.s. iOS9 sucks…in the time it took me to type this, I could’ve faxed in my comment.)

      • gemstone333 says:

A former colleague told me that when she interned on Capital Hill, her office was across the hall from Boehner. He had a tanning bed in his office. He chain smoked every day all day, and he left promptly at 5pm to hit the nearest bar. That combo can’t be good for his health.

      • lunchcoma says:

He’s NOT my congressman, but I know multiple people who work on Capitol Hill and they’ve all confirmed at least the functioning drunk part of things. Apparently he’s often very (cough) tired (cough) during the early part of the day.

Though it sounds like the resignation is party dissension, not health or scandal related.

  7. Naya says:

I cant see what scandal would do this. I mean there have been elected officials implicated in the attempted cover up of the death of a mistress (Kennedy). And a popular ex president who had a bj in the oval office. Maybe a pedophile scandal? My money is on a health crisis of some kind.

    • 7-11's Hostage says:

Same here. I’ve read comments, people fretting about who is going to replace him, and how much worse they’re likely to be. If i go on history, it’s not going to be better or worse, just more of the same, that’s my opinion.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

using all that orange tanner has caused a Vitamin D deficiency and compromised his immune system?

    • Kori says:

Speaker Robert Livingston resigned (and retired asap) a cheating scandal practically as soon as he replaced Gingrich.

  8. anniefannie says:

Ya the party line is he wanted to delay a shut down. If this ends up being the truth I will have grudging admiration….so, doubtful!

    • holly hobby says:

To be honest, he was the only thing that stood between the nuts and a govt shut down. He was pretty much old school politician that tried to work with the Dems. There used to be collaboration in Congress. However he got demonized by his own party for having the nerve to work the Dem side for votes to push a bill through. Unbelieveably he was the lone sane voice on the Repub side.

I agree with Celebitchy, the replacement will be worse. Probably one of the nuts. Massive govt shut down. I’m ambivalent about his resignation. No I’m not a republican. I’m a realist.

      • Alice says:

I really dread his replacement. Whoever it is, it’ll be a nutbag. There are some real sickos in this Congress.

    • L says:

The shut down isn’t happening now apparently. He’s going to break hassert rules (because who cares now right) and get the budget passed. Where it’s really going to come to a head is the debt ceiling in October.

  9. Abbott (Basement Demon Treasurer) says:

    Denise from marketing strikes again.

Maybe he’s ill? Politicians keep their affairs pretty locked down for the most part. At least to the general public.

  10. BooBooLaRue says:

    This headline is priceless.

  11. Jenns says:

I am so over him crying. And it’s such a double standard, because if that were a woman Boo-hoo-hooing all over the place, men would happily point out that women are too emotional for politics.

    • Shambles says:

“And it’s such a double standard, because if that were a woman Boo-hoo-hooing all over the place, men would happily point out that women are too emotional for politics.”

Preach. It. The wingnuts would have a field day if it was a woman.

    • 7-11's Hostage says:

That’s a fact. Double standards, aren’t they the bestest?

    • bluhare says:

      In total agreement!

    • sarah says:

To be fair, twitter was CRAZY yesterday with women AND many men making fun of Boehner saying:
      “pull it together man”
      “ugly cry face”
“finally realizing he’s going to hell”
      “father figure issues”
      “when does he not cry”
      “vodka tears”
      “Snapchat update”

I really don’t think this is an “affair/woman/man/maybe cheating” thing.. i honestly do not get that vibe. Personal/health issues? A sudden epiphany of moral compass??? I can’t think of what, but cheating isn’t it… at least for now, time will tell I gues?

      • Susan says:

Yes, people mocked him for crying. But I didn’t see anyone drawing the conclusion that Boehner was unfit for his position due to his emotions which is what the OP is saying. If a woman did this, there would be severe critiques that she was not capable due to her pesky female emotions.

      • 7-11's Hostage says:

“A sudden epiphany of moral compass???” I, too, was once this naive. A sudden epiphany, if it were a TV show, yes. In real life, it’s…highly unlikely. (The snark is not directed at you.)

      • sarah says:

        @7-11’S HOSTAGE
Yeah um i was being sarcastic/ironic… I think you were too busy being condescending to realize.

      • yep says:

it aint about cheating. he got schooled.

      • 7-11's Hostage says:

        @7-11′S HOSTAGE
Yeah um i was being sarcastic/ironic… I think you were too busy being condescending to realize.” Maybe you missed the part where I wrote that the snark was not directed at you. Because it wasn’t: “I, too, was once this naive,” is not snark; it’s broken-heartedness at how corrupt people *choose* to be.

    • byland says:

Thank you. Hello, Hillary Clinton after the New Hampshire democratic primary, anyone?

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah, she got emotional and they were all over her, declaring she didn’t have the balls to lead.

      • Original T.C. says:

I thought both the press and public more more positive towards Hillary after her crying because it showed she was human and not a robot? No?

    • EN says:

I think it is great that he shows emotions. Why can’t men show emotions? they should, they are human.
Yes, women do get criticized for it, but so do men, apparently based on this thread.
If it becomes acceptable for men to show emotions then it won’t be the “women thing” anymore. It will be something that humans do.

      • Jenns says:

Of course men can show emotion. But this guy cries all.the.time. To the point that it’s totally ridiculous.

  12. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

    More Bernie Sanders please.

  13. Freddy Spaghetti says:

I think he got sick of his own party bashing him because since the Tea Party became a viable part of the GOP, it’s been nearly impossible to get anything done in the house. Which leads to problems in the Senate, which leads to government shutdowns and they are a huge deal in DC. Boehner was around for the last one and I think he knows his career is over if it happens again, which it might. I’m shocked he’s stuck around for as long as he has.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. I don’t think there’s a scandal. I think he was quietly told to step down or we will step you down. His own party hates him.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Count me I agreement with this line of thinking. He’s not onboard for another shutdown, and, perhaps, amidst the emotion of yesterday, maybe he listened to his better angels.

      • voyeur says:

Agree with Punky. He’s a devout Catholic. I think the Pope’s words may have reached him. Mind you, I’m furious about this Planned Parenthood crap by the Republicans, and the role he’s played in it. But don’t underestimate the Pope’s affect on him.

      • lou says:

What did the Pope say to him?

    • Meatball says:

I agree with this. That makes more sense to me and I don’t know why they are assuming it’s an affair. More likely he knows how ridiculous his party is and how messy things are going to get again.

    • holly hobby says:

      Yup what you said!

    • L says:

Also, how hard has it got to be when your 20 year dream of having the pope come to speak to congress finally comes true and your party is disrespectful and complains about how the pope is ‘to political’ and just trashes him.

I’m a solid liberal, and this isn’t good news. I’m not a fan, but Boehner was at least WILLING to work with dems to keep the party rolling. The fact that conservative ‘values voters’ erupted in applause at this news and that Rubio is gloating should be a clear red light about how awful this is. https://twitter.com/cspan/status/647416881737916420

This is bad. Really really bad.

      • Kori says:

Exactly. And most of the worst GOPers are in the house so this could be awful. I agree he just couldn’t take the bulls&@# anymore.

      • dj says:

True. Actually, this scares me a little as to what is to come in the form of the Tea Party. It is like the referee getting knocked out of the game (if the referee were biased).

  14. Unmade_bed says:

Can’t help but feel sorry for a grown man who sobs on live TV

    • GingerCrunch says:

He did look completely unhinged. My god.

      • EN says:

He looks like the guy at work when he told us about his prostate cancer.
I am not jumping on this one until I have more facts.
I am not going to hit a man who is already down.

      • Christin says:

I don’t know what to think, either. There is a neurological issue that can cause unexplained crying due to varying dopamine levels. I’ve known someone who had it, and it was really frustrating for them because they simply could not control it without taking some type of additional medication.

But, I’ve just assumed this guy is partly acting when he does it (far more dramatic).

  15. Syko says:

They’re talking Paul Puppydogeyes Ryan as a replacement, which is more horrific than Boehner ever was.

    • Giddy says:

No, no, OMG, not Ryan. His Eddie Munster, posing in the gym self makes me kind of crazy!!!

    • Shambles says:

You mean the Paul Ryan who wanted to narrow the legal definition of rape to “forcible rape” and thinks all abortions should be illegal, even in cases of rape an incest?

      Mmmkay. I’m quitting America.

    • Casi says:

I’m a conservative-leaning* Catholic woman and I like Paul Ryan a lot (if you’re still reading after you got past all the words before woman, props to you). I think he gets a raw deal because we live in the soundbite era and he is more of a paragraph kind of guy. He is intelligent, makes informed decisions, and does a lot of his own research. The other thing I like about him is that he learns from his mistakes. He’s not going to change his convictions just because they’re not popular, but he will make a position shift if something happens to change his convictions.

*As the Pope’s visit has illustrated, it is very, very difficult to be a Catholic dedicated to the tenets of Catholic Social Justice and have a stationary spot on the American political spectrum. Overall, I lean slightly to the right…but not very far because there are plenty of CSJ issues to pull left, and aware of the fact that most of the more popular religious denominations in the Tea Party believe that I’ve got an express ticket to hell because I was baptized as an infant and say the rosary.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I did read all the way through your calm, rational post. I understand your points. However, I have read Ryan’s paragraphs, particularly the ones he has written about Medicare and Medicaid, which run counter to both Catholic teachings and the work I’ve done involving both programs. He scares me and I cannot like or support him.

      • The Bucket Lady says:

        A raw deal!?
He wants to strip dying people of their healthcare and screw over the elderly!

      • laura in LA says:

That’s not Paul Ryan “learning from his mistakes”; it’s him going whichever way the wind blows.

    • Isabelle says:

He’s not in line for it & there is a #. Kevin McCarthy is in line first than the guy from Louisiana. Yeah, the last name McCarthy

  16. dibba says:

I was hoping he would run on ticket with Trump and use slogan “Orange is the New Black”

  17. Isabelle says:

The Republican have wanted him out for a longtime. The rumors have really ramped up in the past few months they were booting him for sure next election. He may be doing this as a peace amend to avoid a shut down, because the house is foaming at the mouth to shut down over Planned Parenthood. Him & the Pope spent time alone together. some of the house members were very vocal against him vising. Some saying they were refusing to stand or clap for him. There was one Congress person yesterday said she wanted to hit the Pope with a shoe. Bohner has been trying to get the Pope for years. He may have just decided he has had enough of his own party and said a big f** it. Bohner is annoying, a spinless jellyfish but better than a tea bagger. The Republicans hate him because he actually talks to Obama and they consider him a moderate, he is too liberal for them. Let that sink in, he is too liberal for the Republicans. The person replacing him will probably be more hard-line & even more conservative. Since PP is such a big issue, a far right Christian will probably end up as the speaker. Don’t think this is a good thing.

  18. dibba says:

Where do “normal republicans” go at this point? Do they abstain from voting? Vote for far right candidates because they have no choice? They must be fed up since party highjacked by lunatics.

  19. EN says:

I am not a fan for his, by far, but it is possible that he is just very sick, no? Then all this laughing at him is extremely inappropriate.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’m a cancer patient and for the past five years that man has been wasting our tax dollars by allowing votes on the House floor to allow health insurers to deny me access to medically necessary health care while my tax dollars pay for his health care. I have sympathy for those who battle illness and I wish illness on no one but that man has shown no sympathy or compassion for me and countless other Americans and he has taken active steps to harm us.

      • Texasgurl says:

Actually, he voted for every single continuing resolution that funded the govt, which includes the ACA.

      • EN says:

I don’t think he is personally responsible for it. It is the whole Republican party. And Democratic party is not much better.
We don’t have money to spend on our people here, on healthcare and education but we sure have enough money to play the ruler of the world with a trillion dollar “defense” budget.
And both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of it.
And you know why they can do it? Because average Americans support them. Average Americans are OK with spending so much on military at expense of everything else.

      • Isabelle says:

He tried to get the eggheads to not shut down Congress over it, he is one of the big reason why it shut down because he shame on him, talked to Obama. The Republicans wouldn’t care if Jesus was the speaker of the house, they will try to stop ACA under the new speaker and several years from now. Bohner had no control over the clown bus. He has a house full of clowns and its impossible to control them.

      • Lilacflowers says:

But he voted to overturn the ACA in dozens of other votes that he allowed to come to the floor, all while enjoying good health care coverage at my expense.

      • laura in LA says:

So sorry to hear about your cancer, Lilacflowers. As if that’s not hard enough, you then have to worry that your care under the ACA could be taken away…

Yep, it really gets to me that my taxes, which I’ve paid since I started legally working at 14, go to fund the lives of these layabout hypocrite conservatives who only want to take my coverages and services away.

      • laura in LA says:

Texasgurl, you say: “Actually, he voted for every single continuing resolution that funded the govt, which includes the ACA.”

And for this reason, you also say elsewhere here that conservatives like you hate Boehner? This, after someone posted here about needing healthcare coverage for cancer?!

My God, how do you sleep at night. No, wait, don’t answer that, you have your guns and your don’t-give-a-sh*t attitude about anyone else to keep you *safe*. Shame on you.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Thanks, LaurainLA, I’m doing fine. And before someone whines about being made to pay for my health care. I’m talking about the ACA block on insurers dropping coverage for or refusing to cover people with pre-existing conditions. A practice which the ADA should have banned but was carved out to allow insurers to discriminate. My health insurance coverage is paid for by my employer and me, not through any government program. When I lost a job a few years back, I was limited in my job search options to Massachusetts because, at the time, it was the only state that prohibited insurers from discriminating against pre-existing conditions. The ACA requires coverage for all, no discrimination.

      • Alice says:

I wouldn’t whine, lilac, if my taxes went up a bit to help others. I have that (perhaps Pollyanna) attitude that we’re all in this together. I doubt texasgurl cares who suffers or dies as long as she’s got hers.

  20. The Bucket Lady says:

    We can laugh now.
However, we sure as sh*t are going to be crying at who they pick for his replacement.

  21. Nancy says:

Orange isn’t the new black. Cry me a river John, you tried so hard to make Obama look bad, when it was you all the time that looked so…

  22. My two cents says:

Sounds like he had an awakening with the Pope’s visit. I wish a bunch of them on both sides would have the same awakening.

    • Isabelle says:

yep….he talked with the Pope behind closed doors yesterday. He was probably already thinking about but the Pope probably helped him confirm.

  23. Texasgurl says:

As a conservative, I must say that this is the best day of my life! He doesn’t do ANYTHING for conservatism, he retaliates at anyone that goes against what he wants to do or that doesn’t vote the way he wants and has basically violated his oat of office and the speaker’s chair at every turn. he knew he didn’t have enough votes to stave off a coup within his own party and now he’s running away like the little bitch that he is. I’m so glad he’s leaving, I just hope that whomever takes his place will have the balls to actually preserve, protect and defend the laws of the constitution and leave us to live our own lives as we sit fit – the way America was intended.

    • Betsy says:

      Oh boy.

      • Texasgurl says:

Yeah, it would be a horrible thing if people were left alone to live their own lives, wouldn’t it? Screw individual rights, let’s have the govt give us permission to live.

      • Betsy says:

In which ways have people not been left alone to live their own lives? Which individual rights aren’t being respected – apart from birth control and abortion, that is, since Republicans don’t give a hang about that. So I say again: oh. boy.

      • laura in LA says:

Texasgurl, what “individual rights” are you talking about? Please, do enlighten us with all your Christian values and talk of ‘Murica, “the way it was intended”…

And that this is the “best day of (your) life”? Wow, that’s not much of a life you have there in Texas then.

    • holly hobby says:

Repubs play fast and loose with the Constitution. They only embrace it if it suits them. He straddled the line and knew how to work both sides to get something done. How do you like that? I didn’t pay Congress to sit on their butts, have hissy fits and shut down the govt based on their whim.

We’re not talking about govt employees getting shafted during a shut down. We’re talking about people not even getting their social security checks during a shut down. In a shut down everything collapses. If you think the govt doesn’t have its hands on everything,. you are wrong.

      • Texasgurl says:

don’t believe for a second that when the govt “shuts down” that people don’t get the social security checks. That does not happen and it didn’t happen in the 90s when the govt shut down then, either. they only tell us that to scare us, that’s it. No one lost any services, no one missed a SS check and the private sector had no problems nor did it collapse then or 2 years ago. They ALL lie, ALL of them. And Boehner didn’t do any of what you said. He completely disengaged from the people he represents, he got nothing done except furthering more debt, more welfare, more war, etc.. Boehner did exactly what Reid and McConnell and Obama wanted him to do and they all broke many laws doing it. Every person in congress, save a handful of decent people, are complicit in the crimes of this administration and the administration before that and so on…..

    • Isabelle says:

Agree, its hard to cooperate with a house of Corporate boot lickers & clowns.

    • Jayna says:

Ah, nothing like the good old Tea Party ideology to make sense of it all for us.

      • laura in LA says:

I’m just too tired today to even deal with conservatives’ and Tea Party nonsensical comments (sigh…)

    • Who ARE these people? says:

A little visit to many other places around the the world would leave you gasping for air as to how many personal freedoms you ALREADY ENJOY in the United States.

People who scream about personal freedoms seem to be generally referring to the right to buy/own guns without anyone knowing, followed by a long distance by the right to not use seat belts in cars or wear helmets on bikes. What exactly is missing? What else do you want? Americans have the right to worship as they so choose, speak freely and assemble without fear of government interference, eat and drink whatever they want, marry or not marry as they see fit, enjoy equal protection under the law, and if they are arrested, go to jail with the rights to remain silent, call a lawyer and be tried by a jury of their peers. This is pretty good. And no, Americans don’t have the right to be criminally hateful, discriminate against others unfairly, or own slaves. Is that what’s too intrusive by the government?

      • Jay says:

Yeah, all the stuff you described is American law… in theory. In practice, not so much. Still much better than many other places but let’s not pretend.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Yes Jay application does not live up to theory but I think the trampled rights mentioned in the comment above were not the trampled rights you may have in mind.

      • phlyfiremama says:

We have better amenities and the ILLUSION of freedom, for sure~

      • Alice says:

Don’t forget their right to exploit the environment for personal profit. Big bad Feds are stalling them a bit on that.

    • laura in LA says:

You conservatives have a pretty messed up view of the Constitution, defending it only when it suits YOUR rights. And your idea of “America” is ‘Murica, a place where only those who look and think like you are welcome.

    • Alice says:

What will it take to get the Texas secession movement started again? It was a sad day when that petered out.

    • Lucrezia says:

He “retaliates against anyone that doesn’t vote the way he wants”.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. But it’s actually the whole point having a Speaker of the House in the first place. It’s what they’re for. They (supported by the whip) set the party agenda and try to get everyone to vote along the same lines. If everyone voted willy-nilly, then what’d be the point of having a party in the first place?

That’s got to be up there with the weirdest criticism I’ve ever heard. It’s like complaining that cross-walk attendants interrupt traffic … technically yes they do, but that’s the point of having one.

    • Lilacflowers says:

“As a conservative, I must say that this is the best day of my life!”

So, you’ve never had chocolate? Or a martini?

    • H says:

@Texasgurl Speaking as a person who has defended the Constitution – served in the Navy during the first Persian Gulf War – I’d say you really have no idea what it’s like to actually defend it first hand. It always cracks me up that the most right wing conservatives love to talk about the Constitution, but when asked to step up and serve…they have an excuse. Example: Donald Trump and his deferments.

Please do enlighten us war veterans on how YOU have defended our Constitution.

      PS I’m a moderate Independent.

      • Alice says:

The New Hampshire Gazette has a Chickenhawk Hall of Shame that lists all of the super patriots who somehow managed to avoid doing anything except running their mouths. It’s very enlightening – most everyone on the list is a right wing ideologue. I believe Rush Limbaugh dodged service with anal polyps. Sounds right for such an a$$hole. A very interesting read.

Enquirer??? Calling the Enquirer??? Do not let us down now!!! We know investigative journalism begins and ends with the Enquirer and that you cannot be bought….Unless of course Priscilla Presley is doing the buying. Get back to us ASAP on the Ashley Madison handle for the Lobster-faced one.

  25. Colette says:

He was a no show at his scheduled press conference today.

  26. EscapedConvent says:

I expect the affair involved Miss Piggy. She is not just any pig. She has been devastated since Her Frog took up with that bimbo pig Denise. She cannot even tell how orange Boehner’s face is through her veil of tears. I pray that Miss Piggy comes to her senses soon, or Pope Francis may have to demand a confession from her.

  27. Hrar ar hoboy Kaiser laughing about the pig-lol! Maybe he had an affair with the Dope.

  28. Bread and Circuses says:

I actually wonder whether this was a genuine crisis of faith.

He’s Catholic, he’s been trying to get the pope to speak at Congress for decades, and when it finally happens, the pope basically says what humanity should be striving to do is the opposite of what the Republicans want to do. And then the Republicans started grumbling that the pope shouldn’t talk politics if he doesn’t agree with them.

I wonder if Boehner suddenly realized he can’t, in good faith, consider his party’s aims in keeping with Christ’s teachings anymore. I mean, you can’t get much clearer a sign that you’re on the wrong side than your kind-hearted, well-respected spiritual leader saying one thing and your colleagues trying to silence him.

    • Jayna says:

No. The far right-wingers wanted him out, period. His days were numbered. He’s just leaving a little earlier.

    • Betsy says:

I could easily believe this IF he doesn’t do the usual lobbyist route in his post-speaker life. The New Testament says nothing that agrees with how Republicans govern. How that cognitive dissonance doesn’t bother those people is beyond me.

      • Jayna says:

        It’s ironic, isn’t it?

      • laura in LA says:

You said it, Betsy. It’s their “cognitive dissonance” or lack of any social conscience that’s precisely the problem.

        If this is Boehner’s Catholic crisis-of-faith, I’m sure it’s nothing a high-paying position at a lobbying firm won’t solve – or salve.

    • phlyfiremama says:

No. I’m sure he has some cushy, revolving door lobbyist job waiting for him. After all he has done, to call him a man of FAITH??? Ummm, I don’t think so.

  29. Eggland's worst says:

Is Canada taking any new citizens? Boehner was bad, but God help us on who replaces him. The next pick could possibly be better, or Armageddon type worse. I fear the latter.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Mixed feelings. On the one hand, his replacement could only be worse in terms of reactionary right-wing politics. On the other hand, it could finally make the 3% of Americans who haven’t yet figured out how far right the Republican Party has gone wake up and maybe want to do something about it. We’ll have to see.

Obama’s probably like, “Oh lord, why do you continue to test me?”

      • Jayna says:

I’m hoping it’s the later and will bode well for putting a Democrat back in as POTUS.

And maybe the normal Republicans will see the inmates are now running the asylum and finally take back their party from the Tea Party far-right-wing zealots. I thought that shift might start happening after the last election. Even Joe Scarborough said at the time if they want to get a Republican back in as POTUS they have to stop the fear mongering and also listening to that type of news (FOX) only and people like Rush nonstop. Yet, here we are and someone like Trump is ahead in their polls. LOL

  30. Izzy says:

Damn. I JUST adopted the Boehner Scale of Spray Tan for my Fashion Without Mercy coverage.

NOW what will I use for comparison?

  31. UsuallyACynicLikeYou says:

Boehner reveres the pope. When the Holy Father tells you “We must move forward together, as one, in a renewed spirit of fraternity and solidarity, cooperating generously for the common good.”, you just fcuking do it. I don’t think Boehner’s hiding anything.

Ever since someone (Ed Schultz?) said he looks like the Cowardly Lion, it’s all I can see. All that’s missing is stroking his tail as he cries.

  33. nicole says:

Ok, I am just going to say that I think he is a very attractive man, and I love his husky deep voice. I dont know much else about him or his politics.

    • phlyfiremama says:

Well, shoot, attractive and nice voice are all it takes, amirite ladies?!

      • Betsy says:

She didn’t say she was voting for him because of his looks. She’s allowed to think he’s attractive (which I don’t see. at all, but different strokes…).

@nicole – did you see the SNL music video with Taran Killiam as Boehner and Miley Cyrus as Michelle Bachmann a few years ago when the Republicans shut the government down last time? You might like it. 🙂

  34. CK says:

I’m sure the Pope has been following the PP government shutdown drama and told him the magic 4 words, “You in danger, girl”. I wonder what nut is going to get his job.

  35. phlyfiremama says:

*best Monty Python and the Holy grail voice: And there was much rejoicing. YAYYYYY!!!

  36. Mary says:

Well, since it’s been a dream of his for some time to bring the pope here, maybe he was just overcome with emotions. For some reason though, when I finished reading the story, the first thought that popped into my head was maybe he has the early stages of dementia or something like that. Just my prediction of the day.

  37. LAK says:

That is an amazing shade of orange

    • Jayna says:

That shade, when we see it on celebrities and want to describe it, will forever be known now as Boehner Orange. LOL

  38. Kdub says:

Oh.My.God ok why is there so much gossip around this. I hope and pray he defies the wack-a-doodles, who are ruining this country and front as Republicans with their low information constituency, and Rams through all the bill normal people want to see. I hope he funds PP and gives the “patriots” the bird and drops mic. As a catholic he has been given a progressive agenda by his high priest, if a catholic pope can bring hope to Christianity why can’t orange boy give hope to the GOP.

Oh and Texasgurl you are what Fox News refers to as low information voter. Don’t think on it too hard.

    • Jayna says:

That would be nice, but he won’t. He was a weak Speaker of the House, and now he’s just given up.

  39. Rebecca says:

I work with many Republicans who have decided to blame him for the “non-cooperation” in Washington (even though non-cooperation with Obama is what they wanted the whole time). I believe he is being scapegoated and forced out by some other Republicans in congress.
