Taylor Swift: ‘The public could change their minds about me tomorrow’

swifty2

I’m trying to figure out what Vogue Australia did to poor Taylor Swift. Is this a total Photoshop disaster? While I think that Vogue Australia definitely morphed her face with someone else (Karlie Kloss?!), I also think that Taylor’s pale lip is throwing everything off. We’re so used to see her with red lips, I forget what she looks like with pale taupe-pink lipstick. And I think at this point, we just have to acknowledge the fact that even the greatest stylists in the world are clueless about what they should do with Swifty’s bangs. They’re so bad, you guys. Anyway, here are some highlights from the interview:

How she gets famous people to show up on stage at her concerts: “I’ll approach them and say: ‘I’ll fly you to a city on the tour, I’ll fly you there and back.’ Part of being an entertainer is to try and show people something that’s going to confuse them, delight them, surprise them.”

Her squad: “My friendship group is one of my favourite things about my life right now. Our friends really have each others’ back. It’s the first time in my life that I’ve had anything strong like that in the friendship department. A lot of the time I’ll reach out to people to tell them they’re great and a friendship will come out of them. Ella and I — Lorde — we met on our own because her album came out and I sent her flowers and told her it was great and now she’s one of my best friends. Friendship often comes from admiration and that feels like a natural way to be friends with someone because you’ve established you respect what the person does.”

She knows the public could turn on her: “The public could change their minds about me tomorrow. Things are good right now but I’m never going to be stupid, foolish or ignorant enough to think I have control over the public. All I can control is making good music. I am so lucky that people seem to like me right now but in no way, shape or form is it a permanent thing. And I think being aware of that is what keeps you on the game.”

She’ll take a break after she finishes her tour in Australia in December: “Then I’ll feel like I’ll need to give people a breather from me.”

[From news.com.au]

I think she’s smart to be aware enough that the public could turn on her. You know why? Because they already did once and it was because of something Taylor herself did. The backlash started, thrived briefly and then ended when Taylor decided to whitesplain her Taylor-centric version of feminism to Nicki Minaj back in July. Almost everyone thought Minaj was in the right, and when Taylor piped up, there were many stories critical of Taylor. If Taylor hadn’t done her damage control, it could have been a lot worse.

PS… The British tabloids started a rumor that Taylor broke up with Calvin Harris over the weekend. People Magazine rather definitively says that they’re still on though.

Oh the hair is a bit different here! Better than the usual plastered-to-the-side bangs. Still, I wish she’d take a break from bangs for a bit.

  2. Loopy says:

In these pictures, she looks like the aussie actress who acted in the third Blue Lagon with Denise Richards.

  3. Don't kill me I'm French says:

All I see is that she is career-driven ( it is not a bad thing) and RP driven .
She is rich, thin, powerful, rich but not free

    • Sabrine says:

If her career tanked, most of her “friends” would scatter like the wind. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it goes. That is where the term “fair weather friends” comes from. She’d probably have a few that would stick around but not many.

    • evermoreOriginalhere says:

I think her handler’s are setting Swift up for her next move and that’s one reason she’s taking a breather too. She’s heading into light roles in a few films I’ll bet.

  4. SarahUK says:

Ummm… that is NOT Taylor Swift!!

  5. Marianne says:

I’d say that backlash started before that even. There was definitely a time before 1989, where it was “cool to hate her” and she was constantly portrayed as being man-hungry.

    • Original T.C. says:

No. She protrays *herself * as man-hungry. She is the one that goes on constant pap-walks with a new “love” every time the season changes and then devoted her whole album to telling us every detail about the guy and how much in love she was with a guy she hooked up with for 5 minutes. It’s not TMZ or the tabloids bringing this TMI to us but Taylor herself.

Furthermore she turns ever guy that breaks up with her into a villain and makes millions of dollars trashing him. But of course that means nothing because he has a strong fanbase of Mom’s who thinks she’s an angelic blonde role model. They buy her inappropriate CD’s for their 8-12 year olds since apparently there isn’t any children’s music being made anymore in the world.

      • Saphana says:

And now she even has her white feminist squad with Lena Dunham and Emma Watson and will try to exploit feminism to shield herself from valid criticism. i dont think a man would get away with the marketing strategy, not nowadays.

      • wrinkled says:

Barney’s friendship songs don’t go over well with this kids in this age range.

      • Tippet says:

Children’s music for 8-12 year-olds? When I was 8-12 I was listening to Top 40. All of the kids I knew listened to that. Lots of Madonna. What’s the problem? Why are today’s parents so freaky and pearl-clutchy?

  6. Chinoiserie says:

I think her bangs look nice and I do not usually even like them.

    • The Beldam says:

      Without a doubt.

    • evermoreOriginalhere says:

Probably. The documentary The September issue, showed how the Stylist had blonde wigs ready for Sienna Miller’s cover, it looked like her hair but having the wigs made it easier, the stylist felt, so they’d have hair/wig ready and styled.

  7. morc says:

Eyes are too blue making her look plastic.

  8. mia girl says:

I think they made her look like Rosanna Arquette

  9. anna2222222 says:

I love me some t-swift but I am very much looking forward to her next album promitional cycle and the new hair style that accompanies it. She’s so attractive albeit in a bland and generic way. I don’t understand the bangs and the ashy hair.

  10. Nicolette says:

I see a morph of her face and Ashley Greene from Twilight and in the bottom photo, Sandra Bullock. Realistic of her to know this ride isn’t going to last forever, but enjoy it while it’s happening.

  11. Crumpet says:

I think bangs are a good look for her, as is the pale lip. She reminds me of Bridget Fonda in these photos.

  12. wrinkled says:

She looks more “undone” in these photos and I actually like it.

  13. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Don’t most friendships actually start because you and someone else share a common interest? I think this is what Taylor’s issue is and why when a backlash does occur again it will completely blindside her.

It always seems like she’s ‘playing’ at being normal. I agree friendships can come from praise and support but the way she phrases it makes me think of how she keeps getting in trouble for essentially being inauthentic.

Can’t knock the hustle but there’s just something so automaton about her.

    • That struck me as odd too. Not that there is anything wrong with having admiration for your friends, most of mine are doctors and I find that incredibly inspiring. But my friendship didn’t start with them because I bought them a ton of roses.

Nothing wrong with it, but to me it seems like a very odd way to start a friendship, with someone else kind of buying you praise. Of course you’re going to be nice to someone in return to their praise.

Of course TS must have many other things going for her friendship once she gets to know them, but I still find the dynamics of
      Friendships starting like that strange.

      In my opinion…

  14. Leah says:

All her interviews are really boring. In other news her Ken doll boyfriend is on twitter threatening to sue everyone who says they broke up. And making fun of peoples looks. He such an uptight angry man. I feel sorry for Taylor if they ever break up.

    • sb says:

I actually think she is the exact same as he is, just hides it better. Yep, I kinda think she will get what she deserves when they implode; someone bashing her back after a break up is long overdue. She is an obnoxious little twit and I can’t wait until it is her time to go bye bye.

      • pleaseicu says:

One Direction’s new single that’s dropping on Friday is apparently about Taylor and Harry’s relationship and break-up and her writing an album about him/them. Harry co-wrote on the song.

Includes references to her 1989 songs about him/them and lyrics such as he was just “someone to write break-up songs about”

It’ll be interesting to see if she’s as supportive and complimentary of Harry’s song about their break-up as he was of all of her songs about him/them on 1989. She can dish it but can she take it (without making herself a victim of big bad harry styles)?

  15. Tiffany says:

So she is giving these people first class accommodations to show up and be on stage with her. Got it.

Between this and the quote about friends, when she speaks, she says sooooo much.

  16. I Choose Me says:

I don’t hate the hair here. Esp., on the cover pic. The color though, would benefit from being a warmer shade of blonde. Or she could go brunette. I actually think she looks real good as brunette.

  17. Jayna says:

    Amazing photos.

  18. Naddie says:

Bangs are beautiful, I don’t get the hate about them.

  19. WTF says:

No Swifty, I don’t think there’s any danger of that. I don’t like you and I never have, can’t see that changing anytime soon.

  20. wrinkled says:

Anyone listen to Ryan Adam’s 1989 covers? I find that they’re great music for driving through unlit country roads late at night (moody, introspective).

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I’ve listened to it about 4-5 times through since it came out. It is strange and kind of awesome, IMO. I think a couple of the songs are a bit of a stretch, as in trying to make it work and it just doesnt, but almost all the songs do work and I would def like to see more artists doing this in the future: covering a whole album in a completely different way than the original. It is really interesting.

  21. INeedANap says:

Girl shows up on the cover of Vogue showing off her bra, and she’s still sexless.

I am waiting for the day when she throws off this “pretty popular princess” schtick and comes out as the boss b!tch she is. I wanna see her get mean, not this passive aggressive nonsense she sticks to.

  22. Saks says:

She has a current scandal in Mexican media, apparently she said she agrees with Donald Trump regarding his migration politics

    • FingerBinger says:

She wouldn’t risk alienating segments of the population by being political. I doubt she’d say something like that.

    • mia girl says:

I’m no fan, but that story and statement attributed to Swift by the Mexican media has already been proven false. Also did you read the actual statement? As FingerBinger said, there is no way Swift would come out with a political statement like that.

      • Saks says:

I read it today in a newsstand when I was going to work. It seemed strange, that’s why I came here to ask. Glad it was all made up (especially for my little cousin who is a huge fan of Taylor). Thanks for the clarification.

  23. Tacos and TV says:

I can’t wait until December. It’ll be two holiday seasons. The most important one: When Taylor Swift Bangs bounces under a rock and stays the f**k there with that damn, fame hungry complaining man child she calls a boyfriend. Oh and I want her stupid girl squad to go with her.

    • Saks says:

To be honest, I doubt it too. That would be an extremely rookie and stupid move for someone so pr-aware like Taylor.

      • Tacos and TV says:

I agree! I think this is all a joke. She is not going anywhere. Maybe not as exposed but she is definitely staying put.

  24. Quincy7 says:

Just once I would really like to see her break up with someone. And then have them write a song about it.

  25. alihar999 says:

I think she looks great. I really like her hair straight.

  26. Armenthrowup says:

    Go. Away.

  27. iheartgossip says:

She is really unaware. I mean to 1,000% power.

  28. WinnieCoopersMom says:

I think she needs to take a break and then change up her image. She needs to just grow up and make adult music, and stop being such a sell out. She is clearly a great writer and can play instruments really well. If I were her, after all the commercial success she has had (5 albums!), I would step away, and just learn to be more natural and genuine… Drop the fake friends and the stepford-esque baking parties, and instead, travel (in a low-key and unpublicized way) and hang out with real friends, without it being all about social media…and then later, make a comeback with a stripped down, soulful/acoustic album…the kind of album a 10 year old wouldnt care about.

  29. Joh says:

    Sexless, like Julie Andrews.
    Not unattractive, but sexless.

  30. Katie says:

Keep talking honey and they will
