Kate Winslet & Michael Fassbender got affectionate at UK ‘Steve Jobs’ premiere

Here are some photos from last night’s London Film Festival closing night premiere of Steve Jobs. I’m just doing photos of Kate Winslet and Michael Fassbender, if that’s alright. I like Danny Boyle but I don’t need to see photos of him, you know? Winslet has been gushing about Fassbender in interview after interview and I do think she’s got a little crush on him. He seemed happy enough to grab onto her for the red carpet, and it makes me realize that we’ve never seen him pose like this with a girlfriend, not even when he dates his costars. Kate’s dress is Alexander McQueen and it’s… a really boring navy dress.

Fassy has been saying words to promote the film, of course, but there’s something notably different this time around: Fassy is being cautious. He’s not complaining, he’s not making pronouncements about how he’s not going to campaign for an Oscar or any of that. He’s playing it very safe. Some assorted quotes:

Steve Jobs was flawed: “Steve Jobs tried to make products that are not poorly made, but maybe that was to make up for his own shortcomings. All of his energy goes into these products he’s creating, while his own life suffers.”

Fassy doesn’t see Jobs as cruel: “I played him with the utmost respect. I never tried to play him as a cruel person, but as somebody who was passionate about his vision. He pushed for the best, sometimes to the breaking point. But when you’re changing the world in such Teutonic kind of way, then maybe that’s what is required.”

The Jobs’ family & their reactions: “It did make me hesitate. I was worried about how their late father, husband and friend would be portrayed and that weighed on my conscience. There was a responsibility, for sure. But I have to get on with my job. I approached it with utmost respect for Jobs and his family and by no means did I set out to betray them. If they do see it, I hope they are not hurt by it because that’s not my intention.”

[From USA Today & The Daily Mail]

He says that part about the family because, as we know now, Steve Jobs’ widow was calling up some of the big names in Hollywood and asking them/begging them not to play Jobs. She called Christian Bale and Leo DiCaprio specifically and asked them not to play Jobs, which is how Fassbender got the part in the first place – he was easily the third or fourth choice. And now he’s being discussed as one of the leading contenders for the Best Actor Oscar. Just goes to show ya.

I kind-of like this dress on her. I have seen far more boring dresses on the red carpet.

    • ariverruns@aol.com says:

Kate Winslet is a Gorgeous woman.

      • Careygloss says:

Agreed. And while I understand that some of the things she has said over the last few years in print have been a bit obnoxious, there is no denying how talented she is. I’ve seen dozens of her movies but the characters she plays are so diverse that I forget it’s her I’m staring at onscreen. I hope this movie does well, as I love her acting and I’m admitting to being a Fassaholic. 😉

    • MG says:

I agree. I think she looks fantastic.

    • Sunglasses Aready says:

Love, love, love the dress. The colour navy is classy on her.

    • j.eyre says:

I think that dress is fantastic, I would wear it in a heartbeat (now if someone would just invite me to a premiere to which I can wear it.)

    • Sarah (another one) says:

I agree. It’s classy and fits her like a glove. Just because something isn’t “out there” or “risky” doesn’t mean it is a bad, boring dress. She looks gorgeous. And Fassy? My, my, my….

  2. SusanneToo says:

Maybe he said “tectonic” rather than “Teutonic”. Makes more sense to me.

  3. kay says:

She looks fantastic and I like the dress.

  4. Tiffany says:

I am feeling that dress on Kate. Huba…huba.

  5. Sixer says:

Teutonic? Eh? Does he mean titanic? Or did he say titanic and someone misunderstood the accent?

  6. helen van patterson patton says:

Their friendship/chemistry is so interesting (and cute). Charlize had just as much of a crush on Fassy as Kate obviously does, but he acted like it made him so uncomfortable. It was super awkward how she would be all about him during Prometheus promo and he’d look as if he wanted to crawl under the chair away from her trying to devour him. I love that he has a completely different dynamic with Kate.

    • alice says:

Oh boy, seeing Charlize drooling over Michael and him being so detached and uncomfortable was so cringe worthy. She literally threw herself to him and he was like: meh…

      • Andrea says:

I wonder why? Maybe she came on too strong?

      • Minxx says:

Charlize is not his type, he likes dark-haired, petite women. I think Kate has a bit of a crush on him but he’s just being friendly, nothing more.

      • Andrea says:

He’s been spotted with blondes too.

      • Isabelle says:

Who knows maybe she was drooling over him because they had hooked up? Fassbenders type, women. He seems to like them a lot.

      • arbelia says:

Well Charlize is a very beautiful and attractive woman but she has quite a reputation of being obnoxious.
Michael was quite friendly with Kieira Knightley and Jennifer Lawrence too.

  7. Mia4s says:

Not sure I’d read much into it; that’s pretty much how he and James McAvoy are on the red carpet, LOL!

  8. Hazel says:

I heard Fassy did a great Jobs.

  9. Renee says:

Kate looks great. The dress fits her like a glove. Simple and elegant.

  10. burnsie says:

Fassy looks hot. Just renewed my crush on him

  11. smcollins says:

Too bad she’s married…they would make a scorching couple (sorry, Alicia). 😉

    • Andrea says:

It’d never work. She’d want to get married and he’d want to still play the field.

    • Peggy says:

It never stopped her before, just asked her first husband.

      • arbelia says:

Well i read on various gossip sites that she divorced him because he cheated on her and gave her a STD. And i tend to believe it. I remember an interview she did with Cameron Diaz 10 years ago while she was happily married to Mendes, and she said that she had been cheated on in the past. Since she had only two relationships before Mendes ( her ex who died and whom she speaks always so highly and her first husband) i think she was referring to him.

But yeah she can end her relationships abruptly and seems to move on pretty quickly.

      • Andrea says:

Wow, some interesting gossip. That kind of cheating is unforgiveable.

  12. Patricia says:

    I’ve always loved Kate.
It’s a shame that she was in that awful Divergent movie, and that her performance in it was so terrible. I can’t get it out of my mind now when I see her.
Hopefully the memory will fade for me soon!

    • Andrea says:

I didn’t care for that movie/book as a whole and I agree, that was the one movie I was meh about Kate.

    • Careygloss says:

Oh I know I desperately want to forget that! I didn’t even see the movie. But I was disappointed that she even opted to be in it…

      • Eggland's worst says:

From my understanding, the studio that put it out (sorry, I didn’t see it either) was hoping for the next Hunger Games.

  13. Andrea says:

Have there been any Vikander siteings lately? was she at this premiere?

  14. Christina says:

I think they would make a stunning couple. I also think Fassy needs to date closer to his age for a change. He probably doesn’t know if he wants to settle down or not because he keeps dating children. I know Kate is married, but gosh..they would be impossibly hot together. It might make me get over my fantasy that Kate finally tames Leo and they just live happily ever after together. What would Fassy & Kates couple name be? Fate? Kinda hokey. Kassy sounds like a girls name. Fasslet. That’s the one I am going with until someone thinks of a better one.

    • Minxx says:

LOL re “Fasslet”.. they should have many ginger ‘fasslets’ together. My dream pairing for Fassbender is Marion Cotillard (my girl crush) but she’ll never dump that dreadful boyfriend of hers. Grr.. That being said, she is filming with Fassbender again, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Fassillard or Cotbender 😉

    • korra says:

Hands down the cutest comment of the day. I love it and now stan it. Fasslet love it!

    • Peggy says:

Right now Kate is 3 by 3, three children three different fathers, don’t ask her to be a 4 x 4.

      • HoustonGrl says:

To be fair, didn’t one of them die? And her second husband cheated on her. I think it’s great. How many men father children by multiple women and we don’t even blink?

      • Kate says:

It was her first boyfriend who passed away, not her first husband.

    • AJ says:

LMAo I could’ve written this exact comment.

  15. Eggland's worst says:

He probably felt a little more relaxed because she is married and there won’t be the rampant are they/aren’t they rumors. To be fair, he has brought some of the coverage his personal life gets upon himself by his behavior, but like I said, he probably was okay with having his picture taken with a woman and not have everyone and their brother weigh-in as to their status/if she is the “one”/etc.

  16. HoustonGrl says:

She looks great, and they seem to have some serious chemistry!

  17. antipodean says:

Where did they leave the slow cooker?

  18. Sarah01 says:

I love the way Michael laughs it’s a real laugh,
I can’t stand Kate winslet it’s very irrational she looks really old for her age.

  19. Kathy says:

Weinstein boy won’t win the Oscar for Steve Jobs, as much as he clearly wants it. He and Kate, the new thirsty couple of Hollywood, will only get nods for this. Quite annoying this performing show they are doing for the cameras. Graham Norton will be hilarious with those two, especially now that Jobs is flopping in US box office.
