Seth Rogen still has ‘no idea’ whether North Koreans were the Sony hackers

While most of the Oscar-talk about Steve Jobs has been centered on Michael Fassbender’s performance, many critics have also been saying quietly that Seth Rogen is definitely award-worthy too. Seth plays Steve Wozniak in the film and people are saying that Seth gives a great, understated, purely dramatic performance. Seth hasn’t been talking that much on behalf of the film, but he’s got a great new interview with The Daily Beast. He not only chats about partying with Fassy, but what the drama was like around the Sony Hack and all of that. Oh, and he talks about politics, but most about Ben Carson. You can read the full piece here. Highlights:

Why he tweeted “f—k you” to Ben Carson: “They implied that if their [right-wing] politics were applied to the Holocaust that Jews wouldn’t have been killed. To me, it wasn’t just about the Holocaust thing. It was about the [Oregon] shooting and how he said that people shouldn’t just stand there and let themselves get shot, and that the correct thing to do if someone has a gun in your back is to point them at someone else and have them go rob that person? I mean, I just read a lot of the stuff this guy was saying and he seemed like someone that I just detested. At face value, what he’s said is absolutely despicable. That guy is totally f–kin’ bonkers.”

On the Oscar talk: “I hope that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy! Why not, sure! But actually Aaron Sorkin said that he suggested me for the role. I’d met him a few times before, and he said he just thought I could do it, which is crazy that Aaron Sorkin was thinking about me in any capacity.”

He’s tight with Fassbender, despite Seth’s history of making jokes about Fassy’s penis: “I’d met him a few times before. It’s funny. They were filming 12 Years a Slave in New Orleans at the same time that we were filming This Is the End, and for whatever reason—they probably wanted to blow off some steam—we were throwing parties a lot at bars because New Orleans is an easy place to do that, and so they would come and hang out with us quite a bit. I think the whole cast came to our wrap party when we finished shooting… We concluded that they were so deeply entrenched in something that was such a bummer to shoot that it was probably fun to hang out with these other people that were not. So we hung out a few times and he’s actually really funny. As an actor he takes his work very seriously, but as a human, he doesn’t take himself very seriously. He has a very good sense of humor and he’s someone that I would be actual friends with in my life, it feels like. So he was not appalled by my giant dick jokes.”

What he thinks of Kanye West: “I’ve had very pleasant experiences with Kanye West, honestly! He rapped me his entire new album in the back of a car. He was playing it on his laptop. I found him to be incredibly nice.”

Whether North Korea was really behind the Sony Hack: “Yeah. The dude who came to my house and did my cybersecurity, who I think used to work at NASA, said he didn’t think it was North Korea. And I’m not generally one to trust the government, so them implying that it’s North Korea doesn’t really ease [things]. But I honestly have no f–king clue. We still talk about it, me and Evan [Goldberg], and sometimes we say, “It must have been the North Koreans,” and other days we say, “There’s no f–king way it was the North Koreans.” I really don’t know, which is one of the weirdest parts of the whole thing. We’ll probably never know.

[From The Daily Beast]

He also says he doesn’t regret making The Interview or anything like that and if he had to do it all over again, the only thing he’d change would be three butt jokes. It’s interesting that Seth and Fassbender were friends before Steve Jobs too – Seth said that Fassy befriended Craig Robinson first and Craig would bring Fassy to This Is the End parties and that’s how the 12 Years a Slave crew would end up partying with the comedians. Oh, and Seth is totally right about Ben Carson. The things Carson has said are absolutely crazy and appalling.

If Jonah Hill can be a two time nominee, why not Seth Rogan?

  2. LAK says:

People talk about Trump saying idiotic things, but how is Ben Carson getting away with saying even MORE idiotic things?!

    • Insomniac says:

Because Trump is sucking up all the media oxygen.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Also, Carson comes across in the debates as very reasonable. I think he is careful about his audience? I liked him at first until I started looking into it a bit more. He’s nuts, too.

      • Lama Bean says:

I think it’s because Cardon is so calm and mild mannered when he says it and trump makes huge sweeping generalizations with no specifics (I’ll repeal the ACA and replace it with something that’s gonna be great).

Yeah it def wasn’t north korea, most people know that… US propaganda to cover up our own f*ck ups. Some believe this was to generate attention away from the TPP, which at the time, news about the TPP was just starting to leak. God, our government is so obvious sometimes

I totally agree with him about Ben Carson and honestly what he said about those kids in Oregon you’d have to be soulless not to be offended. I won’t even get into his thoughts on the holocost because just wow.

I have heard Seth is fantastic in Steve jobs so I hope he gets some recognition. Plus there is just something endlessly likable about him. He just feels like he is a good guy.

I know that he is not everyone’s Earl Grey, but I like Seth Rogan. While his humor can border on juvenile, I find him entertaining.

  6. Esteph says:

I might be the only one out there, but I like Seth and the movies and shows he has been in. I loved it when he was the host for the Roast of James Franco. Idk, I love Rogen, that’s all 🙂

Yeah, I used to think Seth was a jerk until I saw him in a bunch of interviews. I really liked his conversation with Bill Maher about movies they grew up with (Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds) and how they seemed fine at the time, but now you look at their treatment of women and go “Oh my God!”
