Beyonce’s dad claims Bey is at least two years older than her reported age

Here are some photos of Beyonce last night at an event for Tidal, the music-streaming service that no one really likes or uses. I’ve been saying this for a while, but here we go again: Beyonce is messing with her face, right? She looks so strange to me in these photos. And I kind of think she had a small boob job too. Anyway, Beyonce is currently “34.” As in, if anyone asks about her age, Beyonce’s people will insist that she is only 34. For years now, there’s been speculation that she’s shaved off a few (or a lot) of years from her official age. Even when Beyonce first hit the international charts with Destiny’s Child, I can remember hearing that she was a few years older. And if I’m being honest, it felt like she was “30” for about three years and everyone just went along with it. Now Beyonce’s dad is sort of admitting that she’s shaved a few years off!

Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles has fuelled conspiracy theories surrounding his daughter’s age after he declared she was the ‘exact same age’ as someone two years older. Mathew, who used to manage Beyonce and her former band Destiny’s Child, described his daughter – whose birth date is listed as September 1981 – as being the same age as fellow pop star Pink, who was born in September 1979. The 63-year-old also referred to his 34-year-old daughter as being the same age as R&B singer Usher, who was born in October 1978.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 in New York, Mathew said: ‘(Destiny’s Child) had a competitiveness, L.A Reid had a rival girl group at the time, and I’ll bet you don’t know who the lead singer was… It was Pink! And she was the exact same age as Beyonce. Then you had Usher, who was the same age, they were all 14 or 15 years old, living in Atlanta.’

Mathew’s comments will no doubt fuel an old conspiracy on internet message boards that Beyonce is older than she says she is. Back in 2008, actress Gabrielle Union, who turns 43 next week, said she knew Beyonce when they ‘were teenagers’ – despite a nine year gap between the women. The two women co-starred alongside each other in the 2008 film Cadillac Records.

She said at the time: ‘Beyonce and I have been friends since we were teenagers. We go to the same hairstylist now and you know how those bonds are! B is such a polite, nurturing person and a joy to work with. It’s easy to work with her because she is a good friend of mine.’

Former Good Morning America host Bianna Golodryga, 37, also confirmed several years ago she went to high school with Beyonce in their native Texas, which some critics took as supposed ‘evidence’ Beyonce was older.

[From The Daily Mail]

If you want to dive down deep into the conspiracy theories, there are some who say Jay-Z has lied about his age as well. As for Beyonce… yes. I believe she’s shaved a few years off. I believe she was born in 1978 or 1979. Do I believe she’s the same age as Gabby Union? Probably not. But I will always believe that Bey took off two or three years from her birthdate. Just like I’ll always believe Bey’s pregnancy was super-pillowy.

Meh, who cares, it is a few years. Her awful blonde hair makes her look older than any ‘revelation’ about her birth date

    • sarah says:

Was about to say, it’s the hair that makes her look like she recently messed with her face.. that hair colour is awful on her. The makeup is also too matt-ed which gives the appearance of airbrushed to f*ck.
I’ll believe she’s 36/37.. so bizarre that celebs do this..

      • Shambles says:

“It’s the hair that makes her look like she recently messed with her face…”

This and the fact that she’s dead in the eyes? It gives me the creeps.

Also, the bolt-ons are so real.

      • Kitten says:

Yeah her face actually doesn’t look that different to me. I don’t understand how people with weaves and extensions can wear their hair up like that. The bonds/tracks/whatever inevitably show and it just doesn’t look that great unfortunately. I think it’s made even more obvious by the brassy blonde color too…

      • Santia says:

You really think it’s the hair? Her face looks so hard to me now.

      • doofus says:

that is a straight-up wig…you can tell bc her hairline is SO uniform and “perfect”.

the color does NOT suit her…if she wants to go light, a light-brown would look a lot better.

      • Belle says:

I’d say you’re bang on with the age, and that hair/wig is NOT helping at all. It looks like a cheap DIY dye job and I can’t see the colour flattering anyone from this planet.

And why for the love of fashion is she trying to make that top ponytail a thing? She’s worn her hair/wig that way at a few events now and it just looks awful. That style looks cute on a tween or maybe early-early 20s girl, but not on someone cruising around the edge of 40.

      • lrm says:

Definitely agree on the ‘dead in the eyes’ comment. There was video of her with Jay Z at a game in NYC-she was rocking back and forth and he looked like he was hoping no one would notice. Something’s going on. Similar to Duchess Kate, some kind of meds, is my prediction.

      • Val says:

I don’t think it’s bizarre at all actually. I mean, we know Hollywood is incredibly ageist, so any woman going in feels pressured to appear younger. I can’t hate her for that, if I started getting acting roles, I would shave off a few years too haha.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I think she did electro on her hairline to make it cleaner, but I advise people against that! A far away hairline makes people look older, as it mimics the way hair recedes with age. It can “clean up” your look, but eventually it will age you.

I think the hair color looks terrible on her.
I don’t think her dad was being specific with his comments about age.

      • Sean says:

“This and the fact that she’s dead in the eyes? It gives me the creeps. ”

I don’t think she is dead. I just think there is nothing there. She is really stupid. She is a silly, spoiled idiot. She isn’t able to have anything in her eyes.

    • Jules says:

I can see the extensions from here………………

    • OverFirstAve. says:

Yawn, so typical in Hollywood and modelling industry…even a First Lady.

I Remember at one point Nancy Reagan reportedly cut her age by a few years. Lol

I have a music industry friend that swears to me that Lady Gaga is lying about her age constantly!

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

And dont forget about the theories regarding Iggy and Lorde…ugh why be ashamed of age? All these women do is preach feminism while at the same time lying about their youthfulness. It is a conflicting message and not good for being a role model.

      • Cindy says:

        @winniecoopersmom
Wait. Is Lorde lying about her age possibly? Jeez, isn’t she 18 or something?

      • lrm says:

Gaga is definitely lying-there’s no way she was ’26’ for like 4 years in a row-LOL Or ever (since she’s been the spotlight). I’d say she was about 35 when she made it big. It was so obvious with her, not sure why her people marketed her as so much younger, b/c she didn’t need a younger demographic to grow old with. She has her own niche and can actually sing. Another one who’s definitely older (IMO): Taylor Swift. And her music is immature on purpose-it’s not her life that she reveals through her music. It’s all gimmick. She’s a pro, though, as far as composure and managing her image.

      • Val says:

@Irm “I’d say she was about 35 when she made it big” so that would make her 40 now?? What?
Come on, we need to stop thinking that women in their 40s look like 25-30 year olds, it does all of us a disservice.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I don’t think Gaga is lying, her high school career and move into college is very well documented.

“we need to stop thinking that women in their 40s look like 25-30 year olds, it does all of us a disservice.”

        Amen!

      • Aren says:

@Irm, I agree that Gaga was in her 30’s when she made it. She does look 40 now, she doesn’t look like a 25 year old. I go to school with 25 year olds and they do not look like that.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Aren- I’ve seen 25 year olds look 40 so it goes both ways.

    • Caro says:

      @ELLE

“HER hair?!” That’s called a lace front snatched up in an 80’s Chrissie from Three’s Company pony tail. Which is why it looks SO bad. @JULES has it right, except it’s not extensions.

Part of the reason it looks so stupid —

Typically when you wear a lace front wig, the hair is voluminous and down, so you can’t see the bulgy part of the wig cap where your hair is stuffed/braided underneath.

However, when you snatch all the hair up as Bey’s done, you look like you’ve just pulled on a swimming cap.

I’m sure she braided or slicked her hair down super tight for it, but for that pony style, unless you’re damn near bald underneath the wig, it will never be flat enough to make it not look natural and not wiggy.

Many think she’s distracting from a ‘bump,’ by getting out the chesticles and a bad pony, I.e.. that way, you don’t look down because the top is such a train wreck.

May be a method to her madness.

      I, however, think she’s faking a fake pregnancy….again. lol

      • OverFirstAve. says:

Love Bey, but that has to be one of the worst wigs, the lace front is so obvious.

      • Shambles says:

        Can’t. Unsee. The swimming cap.

      • doofus says:

        swimming cap! yes….!

if you concentrate on JUST her head and block out the ponytail, you can totally see it.

      • Wren says:

Interesting! Yeah it does look weird and that’s why. I’ve always thought her real hair was some kind of pixie cut, like that one photo she posted awhile back, but maybe it’s grown out a bit to make the wig look so weird and lumpy.

    • Colette says:

Well if she lied on Star Search than all the girls in the group lied.So Kelly,LaToya,LaTavia, etc are lying about their ages. Also Solange must be lying about her age since she claims she is five years younger than Beyonce.

Matthew needs to focus on his young son and daughter he had when he cheated on Tina.I bet he doesn’t know their ages either.

      • Elisha says:

But isn’t one of the other conspiracies that Solange is actually her kid? Even those who don’t believe the kid conspiracy do of course think Solange is in on the age one, so pointing to Solange doesn’t solve anything.

    • Michelle says:

Well considering Mathew controlled her career from a very early age, HE was probably the one who first lied about her age.

Her outfits are atrocious. Solange has much better style.

    • Sarah (another one) says:

Yes to the hate on the hair color. I also despise that stupid high ponytail look. Ugh….Barbara Eden can wear that. Everyone else needs to stop.

    • Carol says:

Her….hair….is …awful!!! That should be news story not her age – who cares? She needs to lay off the peroxide and the my-little-pony hairstyle.

    • knower says:

The weird thing is this isn’t a conspiracy theory but being labeled everywhere as such. It’s the facts. Beyonce is 37 and Jay is 48. Anyone that says otherwise is a drone in the beehive.

    • Lisa says:

she has gained weight, thats all, she’s looking a bit Mariah! :/ Not in a good way, but I reckon thats where this freight train is headed! Lol

    • JohnWayneLives says:

      Yeah she looks terrible

  2. lower-case deb says:

well, age is just a number anyway. but, for me,
    i’m 18 til i die.

    • Snazzy says:

I’d be quite happy with 26 or 27 actually – but only if I had the maturity and brains of today …
      😛

  3. CM says:

    I’m SHOCKED, said no-one.

  4. tila says:

Agree that she’s probably shaved a few years off her age. I remember when she came back with the bday album and in one of the songs, she states her birthday – it was like huh? Okayyyy.

I also don’t think she’s done anything to her face – I think it’s the stupid hairstyle that’s making her face look off.

    • Naya says:

The Bday (Beyday … get it? Lol) album had a lot of promotional built around that date. That’s why it shows up in one of the early singles.

  5. DaSH says:

She look so cheap and tacky with that hair color and that god awful outfit.

    • Mia V. says:

She’s looking like a cheaper version of Kim Kardashian.

    • Loopy says:

I know its so shocking how a woman of her status feels its ok to dress like this, she looks like a cheap vegas show girl. And awful hair, she needs to return to her natural black hair this blonde is getting old.

      • EN says:

She looks like she is for sale. She is doing us, women, no favors by enforcing stereotypes.

      • Caro says:

        @LOOPY

Beyonce never had black hair, her natural hair color is a medium brown.

      • Santia says:

@Caro – where are you getting this from? Bey stays posting “throw back” pictures of her and Solange as kids and her hair is black in all of them.

      • Caro says:

        @SANTIA

I’m sure you’ve googled by now so you know you’re wrong, but here you go:

        https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/72/a8/3a/72a83a9e8e3cf869b62795fa116cda85.jpg

        http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqquqnXnpm1qibewgo6_400.jpg

        Just an FYI:

        1) Because many African Americans put oil in their hair to straighten it (especially back in the day it was called a press and curl, a hot comb – today, many flat iron with not a lot of product) it would appear darker than it was naturally.

That *may* be why someone would think her hair was dark…but how you’d get to ‘black’ I don’t know.

2)In many younger pics of Beyonce she is wearing braid extensions and/or product/oil on straightened hair which isn’t an accurate depiction of her hair color.

The pics I’ve linked are Beyonce when her hair appears to be less straight with not a lot of product in it, so you can see her hair is actually brown with reddish or warm tones.

Lastly: TRUE black hair is hard to come by, it’s even rarer than seeing very pale blonde hair on an adult woman that isn’t from a bottle.

Most African Americans do not have genuine black hair.

Hair is kinda my thing…a little part time hobby.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

@En, who said: “She looks like she is for sale. She is doing us, women, no favors by enforcing stereotypes.”

The ironic thing is that this comment only exposes your internalized misogyny. I bet you hypocritically said this while wearing either a bra, make-up, high heels, or a modest outfit to keep yourself “ladylike and safe”. You sound like one of those women who don’t want Muslim women to be able to wear a burka or a hijab because you think the oppression is what the individual woman is wearing, rather than actual societal conditions for women. A woman is not perpetuating stereotypes against or harming her gender just by wearing what she wants to wear. Let’s not pretend that controlling the way women dress and is going to make the world a better place for women or promote women having authority over their bodies.

      • Santia says:

@Caro – I stand corrected on the “black”, but where are the pictures of the “medium brown”? I see dark brown/almost off-black hair. Nothing close to this monstrosity she is sporting on her head above.

      • EN says:

        > @En, who said: “She looks like she is for sale. She is doing us, women, no favors by enforcing stereotypes.”

The ironic thing is that this comment only exposes your internalized misogyny. I bet you hypocritically said this while wearing either a bra, make-up, high heels, or a modest outfit to keep yourself “ladylike and safe”.
        ———————————

Nope, I am not the kind of judgy old lady you think me to be. What I mean is – Beyoncé is using her body in sexual way to sell her brand. Because sex sells. And she further promotes the view of women’s value as that of their body and looks. And it is offensive.

Or do you truly believe she is dressed this way because it is comfortable and pretty? She’d be more comfortable if she just went topless.

You can compare her to Rhianna, who often dresses provocatively. But you still see the person, the woman there, not the body. That is the difference.

    • Lilian says:

@caro my hair is as black as can be and most people I know have black hair. Not at all hard to come by.

      • Caro says:

Really @LILIAN ? That’s not been my experience running into every ethnic group under the sun and doing hair part time – but I haven’t met every person in the world, so excuse me.

So when you and your friends are standing outside in the sun, you’re saying your hair gives off blue/black, or slate/ash highlights naturally?

If it gives off warm or red tones you’re hair is probably not a true black.

I am aware many people refer to even very dark brown and off black hair as black, but it’s really not.

      • Lilian says:

I’m Indian. My hair doesn’t give off any other tones in the sun or anywhere else. I’m not sure what sun you have been running into these ethnic groups under.

      • 😇 says:

Caro does have a point. Indoors my hair is a dark brown. Outdoors u see it is actually a light brown sandy color…and I’m Nigerian. Then again I don’t know what Beyoncé actual hair color is because she lies so much.

  6. manda says:

I think beyonce could pass for 34. And I had no idea usher was born in 78! I thought he was born in the 80s for sure. Some people just age better than others

    • LadyMTL says:

I definitely think she could pass for 34 but I wouldn’t be surprised if she did lower her age. I have Destiny’s Child’s album (called “Destiny’s Child” lol), that was released in ’98…so she would have been 17, max? It’s possible. But yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked if she was actually closer to 36 or 37.

    • OverFirstAve. says:

It’s funny because when I remember some celebrities who use to be younger than me, at the height of their fame, but they are now older than me after their fame has leveled or they have achieved their success.

I think Many of them lie on their way up, I think managers , agents , the stars , do it to give themselves a few extra years in a certain market or longevity.

I knew a model from Sweden or Norway, she was on vacation in NYC, but went into some of the agencies , they loved her, Ford, Elite …well she signed with Ford, she told them she was 27, they told her Now you are 21 …and that was that. She looked great and they made her fit their pr image of being in early twenties , they just wrote all her PR up as being 21.

    • Tifygodess says:

I used to be a big fan of destinys child in the day, they were my jam in my late teens/early twenties and I distinctly remember at one point she was a couple years older than me but now she younger than me by a year. She is probably messing with her age but in that business I would too!

      • lucy2 says:

Same here, except I always thought she was fairly close to my age back in the day, but now there’s a 5 year gap? Hmm.
I could believe she/her team took years off, being so concerned with image. It’s silly though, but I guess some think when starting off, they need to appear younger.

      • OverFirstAve. says:

That’s the thing, it’s usually the PR teams and image makers who do the chopping off years. Bey looks great either way, IMO.

I’ve heard for several years Lady Gaga has pushed her age back, or rather her handlers have.

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Well, to a man of 63, 14, 15, 16 probably seems the same age. Not that he’s doddering or anything, but my father would probably have to think about it if someone asked him my exact age. I’m not saying she didn’t shave some years off, I just wouldn’t take this as proof.

    • Mimz says:

Ditto. My dad will sometimes say I’m 2 years younger than I am, and I have to remind him i’m almost 30 haha. And he’s also 64.

I don’t think she shaved a few years off, She came to the business too early to be thinking about changing her age. There are too many records to go through, and if it were true they would have proven it by now. Like they did with Rebel Wilson.

    • Betsy says:

Too true. My dad still lists us kids and our birth years off on his hand. We always kid him because it’s not there are a lot of us.

    • I Choose Me says:

I agree. Shoot my husband’s mother can’t recall if he was born in ’68 or ’69. His birth certificate says ’68.

Besides, one or two years, who cares?

The real question is what in sweet Minerva did she do to her hair? It is NOT cute.

    • Sumodo1 says:

My father had my fifth grade picture in his wallet. I was age 20 when I discovered that. Sheesh.

    • Cindy says:

I went an entire year thinking I was 35 when I was 34. And I did it *again* when I was 42 and thought I was 43. No joke. But……I don’t think it’s possible to forget two or three years in Hollywood where so much is written about you, and there is such a stigma against age.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, my twin – except I thought I was 55 and I was 56, which I discovered three days before I was 57. I needed a big glass of wine after that one.

      • lucy says:

Ha! to both of you. 🙂 Although, if one is going to be mistaken (on purpose or not) about one’s age, I think it better to say you are older than you are, that way you automatically look great for your so-called “age”.

Otherwise, if you are 27, and say you are 21, that person will seem to not be aging well down the line, when in fact, they simply look their real age.

      • ab says:

same here! I seriously thought and have told people that I am 35, but recently realized that I will be 35 next month, so I’ve been 34 this whole time. lol.

and I agree with lucy, if you’re gonna purposely lie about it, go up so people say “oh you look great for [whatever age]!”

  8. Theodore says:

LOL, she better pay him some hush hush money. Didn’t he also hint that elevator fight was just a publicity stunt to sell tickets.

  9. Loopy says:

So that would mean Kelly Rowland and the rest are also 36, well then Kelly needs to give me her secret.

  10. Astrid says:

She’s looking a little rough and trashy. She has a nice figure but why keep showing it “all” off all the time? I’m sure she’s shaving a few years off, had work done, and did the pillow baby. If age is just a number, own up to it.

  11. Ally8 says:

At some point, they probably moved the date so she could say she was born in the 1980s rather than the 1970s. It’s like taking a decade off!

  12. Naya says:

I see no smoking gun here. Matthew is just saying there was an appetite for singing teens and there was a crazy amount of competition Ala Usher and Pink. They were viewed as industry peers and I doubt a man of his age would be so pedantic as to add there was a small age difference when it adds zero to the anecdote he is telling.

    • Caro says:

      @Naya

Well Matthew was a different sort. He was a manager of groups, so it was his job to find out the ages of the kids he was dealing with and encountering on circuits.

If he didn’t know and obtain exact ages, he could have been in hot water with parents and guardians if he didn’t get the necessary authority from them.

Especially regarding child labor laws, truancy and such. Believe me he probably had all their ages on his palm pilot.

Who was a legal adult? Who could sign their own contracts? Who was still living at home? Was this one emancipated? Who was home schooled? Did the parents have to sign their contracts. Whose parents, schools and emergency contacts needed to be filled in?

He wasn’t just a normal Dad retelling an anecdote.

He was a manager of kid/teen singing groups.

That was his business as much as it was that fat guy’s (can’t recall his name) that did all the 90s boy bands.

      • THOT says:

        Lou Pearlman

      • Naya says:

        @Caro

Who here said anything about him not being aware of his talents age??? I’m saying that a sixty plus hetero guy isn’t going to fixate on precise age two decades after the fact especially not when his whole point is that her professional peers were offering major competition. I have no idea of the precise age of the following but by virtue of being within the same age bracket and their career progression would be referred to as age mates by everyone including their granny; Beyonce, Britney, Christina, Pink, Timberlake, Usher. Are they slightly off by a year or two? Sure. But who other than their doctor actually cares enough to bring that up honestly.

The thing with Beyonce is that because her persona has been so carefully guarded, there’s no sh*t out there on her. Since its impossible that she would be perfect, people make it a mission to find the sh*t. And as with all such tin hatting endeavours, the results are hilarious. Illuminati, super secret no leaks surrogacy and an age con that could only have began pre-pageant days before she clocked 6. All witnesses are of course dead, all direct evidence is lost and all contrary evidence is a lie. And when a middle aged man makes a throw away statement while telling a story about the talent within her age group, we must parse. Our aluminum turbans demand it. Its funny. That’s all.

      • LAK says:

Naya: you are talking about a professional talent manager, not a fan or a customer or some random. The man is still managing talent though not as successfully as he managed Beyonce. This is a man is a well known micro manager as well as a master manipulator of Beyonce’s image. Right now he has nothing to lose, but perhaps everything to gain from lifting the lid on her. He definitely knows where the bodies are buried.

I’d be very worried about his faculties if he didn’t remember what he was talking about.

  13. Farah says:

Did anyone even watch the full interview? Matthew said Pink and Beyonce were around the same people in the music scene and that they were competitive because they were around the same age age. In the next breathe, he says she’s 34. He also says Beyonce fired him when she was 30. She fired him 2011 where she was *gasp* 30.

This is simply a case of dad forgetting his daughters age. Or not knowing by heart Pink’s age.

This whole age thing is really disturbing when you think about it. Black children (black girls especially) are not allowed to be children because they mature early. There’s footage of tween Beyonce on star search. She’s been in the public eye since she was 10! This is stupid. You know her age! Stop being willingly ignorant.

    • Loopy says:

CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!! People can be so silly, and yes my Dad is always like ‘how old are you again?’

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I said the same above. My father wouldn’t know my exact age, I would bet.

      • littlestar says:

I am having a good chuckle at my desk right now because I know that if I called my dad right now and asked him how old I am, he would have no idea! LOL.

    • OverFirstAve. says:

      Well those are excellent points.
My dad Always ask me, so How old are you now.. . He always forgets, but I have seven siblings.

    • Jayna says:

      Isn’t that the truth.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

My dad isn’t even 50 yet but he occasionally forgets our ages by one year.

  14. Adrien says:

Eh, just two years. Like it makes a difference. It’s not like Catherine Zeta or Rebel Wilson decade age shaving.

    • Loopy says:

Really Catherine lied? How old is she.

      • SamiHami says:

She didn’t. She was a child star and her age has always been well documented. For some reason some people like to claim she has shaved a few years, but it simply isn’t possible that she could have.

      • OverFirstAve. says:

I thought The Darling Buds of May was her first fame, she was a young lady, not a child in it?

    • LAK says:

The Catherine Zeta Jones birthers are silly.

We have a government birth register that records every baby’s birth within 42 days of said birth. It’s public and anyone can look up CZJ’s birth certificate and that of her entire family since the registry links them all.

In order for CZJ to shave a decade or any number of years, you’d have to believe that her entire family tree did the same because otherwise the CZJ family tree that exists in the government records isn’t right or she’s an alien who came to earth fully formed and is pretending to be British except she forgot to make sure her birth dates line up to the CZJ family tree in the birth records.

  15. Kate says:

She’s definitely had a boob job, and boy is she trying (and failing) to get people talking about it.

    • Caro says:

Doesn’t look like a boob job to me just double sided tape.

      • Whatwhatnot says:

As someone who had a boob job post childbirth, I was just thinking to myself how mine look exactly like hers do. Not proof but I wouldn’t doubt she did have a boob job, especially if her pregnancy was real, I doubt they would look like that after her “60lb” (as she stated) weight gain and lactating and then dramatic weight loss, milk drying up.

    • Val says:

I agree that she had a boob job. She’s been looking very extra with those things since this summer. Don’t tell the Hive though, they will eat you alive.

  16. Nebby says:

That’s not really hard proof of anything if the two ppl he said she’s the same age as are different ages. They’re in the same age group anyway. And if she is lying oh well, doesn’t make her the first or last person in that business to lie about their age to get ahead in a culture that covets youth.

  17. Kaye says:

I think she looks very different. I’m even getting a Mary J. Blige vibe from the last pic.

  18. Div says:

Yeah, she was on star search when she was a child and I’m sure they stated her age there…so I doubt she lied and it’s probably more like her dad just got confused. Mine sometimes thinks I’m a year older than I am. I don’t understand all the conspiracy theories around Beyonce. Same with her pregnancy….there were photos of her bare belly in a bikini when she was in Croatia that people always conveniently forget about because the pillow baby is more fun.

  19. Leo says:

IMHO, Beyonce is a beautiful woman and age is just a number.

What I don’t get is how did her exact birth year turn into such a Yeti.
If a rag really set their heart on this, wouldn’t they easily find proof, one way or the other? And I’m not condoning the invasion of privacy, just speaking hypothetically.
We are talking about a person born 30 and some years ago, not a Roman emperor from several millennia ago. Are there no birth records, school documents, yearbooks?

    • EN says:

Only close family can request a copy of a birth certificate in the US.
Of course, there are probably people who have seen her birth certificate like the school administrators but they are probably bound by the privacy rules.

      • Anne tommy says:

Bet she was born in Kenya too…

      • Leo says:

@ EN If that’s the case, how did TMZ obtain Ryan Gosling’s daughter birth certicifate?
If the tabloids wanted to find out, they surely wouldn’t take the honest route.

      • EN says:

        > @ EN If that’s the case, how did TMZ obtain Ryan Gosling’s daughter birth certicifate?

Don’t know. I just know the rules for getting it because I had to request them for my kids. You have to state who you are , your relationship to the child .
I guess, it is possible to lie and maybe nobody verifies that information provided is correct. Still, it then gets mailed by post, so you have to provide a valid address , you can’t just get it online.

I only remember having to show it twice – at school registration and getting passports for the kids.

      • SusanneToo says:

I’ve gotten copies of my daughter’s and my birth certificates by just filling out the request and paying the fee. Didn’t have to show any proof whatsoever of who I was.

      • Tillie says:

I just requested my kids’ birth certificates (in California). Only certain people (parents, guardians, etc.) can request a copy to be used for identification, but anyone can request a copy for informational purposes. It will be stamped with some sort of “not to be used for identification” kinda thing.

So, at least in CA, anyone could request a birth certificate.

If this were a real thing, there would already have been a smoking gun.

      • EN says:

        > (in California). Only certain people (parents, guardians, etc.) can request a copy to be used for identification, but anyone can request a copy for informational purposes. It will be stamped with some sort of “not to be used for identification” kinda thing.

The rules are probably different by state. I am in Texas, and I don’t remember there being an “information only” option.
But Gosling is in California too, so this is what probably happened then.

  20. Mylene - Montreal says:

Her blond look very cheap ! And look beyonce being a bitch to her assistant on the red carpet at tidal event ; http://www.buzzfeed.com/kimberleydadds/stop-it#.ewEMJzJED9

    • missmerry says:

eh, she’s there to get her picture taken to make money for Tidal, she’s not there to have pictures of her assistant fussing over her. that’s business to me.

plus, there isn’t much to fuss over…some stretchy fabric with meticulous holes and some tacky colored fur…

      *yawn*

  21. missmerry says:

I’ve seen her documentary and her baby belly did look real in some shots she put in there…but then again, she made the thing, so she prolly just ate a big burrito and pushed out her tummy for all we know.

Because that clip of her pillow-y belly when she sat down for an interview is forever burned into my mind, so I dont know if I’ll ever believe she was really preggo.

    • EN says:

I don’t believe in conspiracy theories AT ALL. But it looks like we have Beyoncé to thank for all the fake pregnancy conspiracies.
Now every pregnant celebrity is suspected of faking it.

  22. Rhiley says:

Meh, thirty-four, thirty-seven, both are considered mid 30s so what does it really matter? Now if it turns out she really is closer to forty-three, then yeah, that B is cray ain’t it Jay.

  23. EN says:

People keep wanting to have what they can’t have like blond hair, which doesn’t work at all with the rest of their appearance , case in point here.
There is a certain balance in nature, trying to “improve” natural looks too much usually end in disaster. Her sister Solange is much prettier because she is comfortable with who she is and doesn’t try to make a Barbie out of herself.

  24. Josefa says:

Oh come on, parents get their kids’ ages wrong all the time. My mom is always off our ages by a year or 2. Maybe he doesn’t know Pink’s exact age, either. If he can’t get his daughter’s age right why would he be so precise about a stranger’s? This is far from a confirmation of anything.

I always found conspiracies about B’s age pretty stupid. Why would you put so much effort lying about something so easy to prove as a lie? And hell, her fake age will eventually reach 40 anyway.

And why are B’s looks always given as proof? Sofia Vergara is 43 and she could pass for a woman in her early 30’s. Lindsay Lohan is 29 and she could pass for a woman in her late 40’s. The whole thing is very relative.

    • Mimz says:

      Exactly.
Of all conspiracies this is the dumbest IMO
She’s been in the business too long to be able to lie about her age. And I doubt that her dad lied about her age when she was a tween, i mean, was she 12 and he lied to Star Search or whatever and said she was 9?
Dads get ages confused all the time. My dad does too.

  25. kibbles says:

There are so many conspiracy theories surrounding Bey because she has produced such a false image of herself for the longest time. She constantly photoshops herself to look much thinner than she really is. Who knows if the elevator debacle was real or not. I suspect it was real and that her marriage to Jay-Z is largely a business deal. She probably has had enough of his antics but loves money and maintaining her image even more than giving up this entire charade. Also, her body type is not naturally willowy and I doubt it is easy for her to remain thin throughout and immediately after a pregnancy, but she did. Then her belly collapsing in on itself while sitting down. Beyoncé loves creating drama and lying. She probably secretly enjoys these conspiracy theories and the fact that only she really knows the truth about basic facts about her life as a public figure.

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I agree with this. Her image is so masterfully constructed and has been, for what, about 15 years or so? Only she and her closest “advisors” know the real truths about her and she wouldn’t want anyone finding out who she really is behind closed doors. I think she is as shady as a DC politician, only more careful.

  26. Kaylah says:

The reach for a Beyoncé scandal is so real that people latch on to the silliest things and dumb themselves down to get it to stick. The man also said Usher & Pink are the same age. Does that mean pink is also lying about her age? There are waaaaaayyyyyyy too many people that saw her grow up. The fact that this is still an issue is ridiculous. Between this Mathew age thing and the she’s a rude B because she said “stop” to her assistant, I just shake my head.

On the side that ponytail, hairline and dress are killing me softly.

    • Amy Tennant says:

Usher and Pink are the same age, or thereabouts, you know. One born in 1978 and one in 1979. I mean, of course, it ought to be a non-issue, and I agree that people are raeching

  27. Drs. Fixxie says:

    Daddy knows best😉😉

  28. Amy Tennant says:

The Daily Mail has her freshman high school yearbook photo in 1996 (so they claim). Take that as you will. That would make her 33 or 34. Of course, who knows where they got their info. I can’t really seem to care one way or the other, but I was curious. ABC has the same yearbook photo and date. I think what might be tripping us up was she became famous at a pretty young age with Destiny’s Child so it seems like she’s been around forever.

  29. shewolf says:

Thats a pretty decent boob job, Im impressed. I wonder if its not implants as much as some sort of lift and fat transfer?

    • Alana says:

Its probably just breast lift so you can free boob without showing your age related sag. Money can buy you some good stuff. I also believe she has done something subtle to her face. I don’t buy any woman above 30 doesn’t even have one wrinkle . Thats BS

  30. jugstorecowboy says:

That dress is hideous…Mariah Carey-level fug. Money can’t buy taste!

  31. Liz says:

Also, her eyes look lifeless. She looked this bad at the MET gala.

  32. karen2 says:

…its sad when snark comes from your own dad…i’m into bless bey…murica needs to value its musical divas….experience has shown their light can go out in the blink of an eye…

  33. funcakes says:

    1. 95% of people in the business lie about their age so they can appeal to a younger age demographic.
    2. I wish she would abandon that God awful ponytail she insist on wearing.
    3. Jay Z looks likes he’s at least in his middle fifties.

  34. lucy2 says:

I just do not get her style choices. I think she’s such a beautiful woman, but is always wearing trashy thing and unflattering hairstyles.

  35. Jewbitch says:

    I’m 29. For 9 years now. Lol
Her face looks off. And her hair isn’t pretty. Normally, I think she looks great.

  36. smcollins says:

She’s definitely looked better. The ponytail is not working for me at all (actually neither is the dress or stoll). Not sure if she’s done anything to her face, but when did she start looking so……vacant? Or has she always and I just never noticed until now?

  37. nikzilla says:

is it me or is that a terrible weave? or wig? maybe that’s why her face looks weird. Totally agree there’s been a subtle boob job too.

  38. meme says:

She’s so pretty yet she insists on wearing trashy outfits and looking cheap.

  39. Jayna says:

It looks like Bey is pregnant. I don’t remember her boobs being that big.

  40. tacos and tv says:

A lot of celebraties lie about things like that. Just like they lie about having work done! Hollywood is not an honest town. They are selling an image and youth and beauty will always prevail, unfortunately. What was the quote from the Oscar winning film Showgirls… “There is always someone younger and hungrier coming down the stairs after you.”

  41. word says:

That dress is horrible. Why do so many women feel the need to show their boobs? Also, when DC started out they were initially called Girl’s Time. They were on Star Search. Her and Kelly Rowland looked about the same age. Also, why lie about your age just to shave off a few years? That doesn’t make sense. It wouldn’t have hurt her career. Also, maybe her dad is mistaken as to what age Pink and Usher are? I don’t know, this seems stupid.

  42. WinnieCoopersMom says:

How about someone question Jay Z’s age? If she is shaving 2-3 years off her age, he is shaving 10-12 off his. That guy looks way older than his supposed age of 45.

  43. Wren33 says:

In this day and age, I really can’t believe that if she were lying about her age, some former classmate wouldn’t plaster her kindergarten yearbook up there or whatever.

    • Alana says:

I have thought the same thing but its also well known that she has an aggressive PR team and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have people daily monitoring if something is post about her that may be negative (I know that can be done ). In case someone does post something they may delete it or who knows what contact them lol ( conspiracy theory) and lets not forget the beehive going crazy at them. Remember those bad photos of her that got out after super bowl performance? One rare example of real, unstaged photos of her that were unflattering and head rolled after that. The real proof for me that this may be true about her lying is that I know this bothers her and she could have shut it down if it weren’t true, not with just vague statements etc but with real proof

  44. Miran says:

I have never cares for Beyoncé so I revel a little bit every time part of her image gets dismantled.

    • lucy says:

Yep. I love this hideous ponytail, weave, and hair color on her…because it looks so dreadful! The cheap dress, tacky earrings, and the dead eyes are great, too.

She is Jay’s little show pony: GROSS.

  45. tealily says:

I think that she probably did shave a couple years off, but is that really what he’s saying? I consider my contemporaries a couple years either side of my birth date to be “my age.” My husband is a year and a half younger than me, and we both talk about people as being “our age.” I’m sure he just means they’re in the same age group. Which the are.

  46. Cindy says:

Nothing about Beyoncé has ever interested me because she is too perfect. Never a wrong move, hair out of place or a bad picture. She also strikes me as void of any personality except ambition. At least you can see her extensions in these pictures, because other than that the woman is like a smiling, posing manequin. Even when her sister went ballistic in the elevator Beyoncé kinda just stood there. And I truly mean no offense to her fans. Maybe I just don’t get it, wouldn’t be the first time. 🙂

  47. MinnFinn says:

Click-bait. That’s what her dad is doing.

The only way 1981 could not be her birth year is if someone bribed or coerced the right people at Texas Dept of Health to falsify Beyonce’s birth record.

The rumors about her age are ridiculous because birth dates are public records that anyone can verify. According to online vital records index from Texas Dept. of State Health Services Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born 4 Sept 1981 in Harris Texas. Parents names on her birth certificate are Matthew C Knowles and Celestine Ann Beyonce.

  48. themummy says:

I don’t care how old she is, but she is certainly NOT 34. ::snort:: I think I’d believe 37-39, maybe. She definitely looks very, very mature for 34.

I’m 38 and 34 was definitely a little different looks-wise. Not much, but a little, in terms of general youthful look. I have aged very well (so it’s not that I fell apart since 34!) and I can definitely say that 34 and nearing 40 just present a little differently. I look young, healthy, and, well, more mature overall. She looks great, granted, but I’m not buying what she’s selling.

  49. Corrie says:

only thing strange looking hear is the hair color. older/younger… she looks good. Could care less on the exact date and when has her dad been the beacon of truth.

  50. DodieTn says:

That second pic side shot makes her look just like her husband.

  51. Paris says:

She looks like she’s morphing into Aretha Franklin, with the exposed boobage and tacky dyed furs. And that hair color washes her out. Once again, it proves that great wealth doesn’t buy class or good taste.

  52. jeanpierre says:

Beautiful person. Don’t like the hair tho. Put that blonde in the burner Bey.

  53. danielle says:

    Her hair’s color is awful.

  54. TrixC says:

I wouldn’t be that surprised to hear she’s older, but I don’t really get why she would have lied about it as a teenager. If she had become famous as an adult it would make more sense since in her industry people are obsessed with youth, but when you claim to be 16 or 17 no one cares if you’re actually 19.

  55. Dash says:

I’m actually impressed by any stars who manage to conceal their real age these days. I can see how easy it was in the 1930s, but now that we have the Internet it’s a lot harder to pull off.

  56. Saywhatwhen says:

Beyoncé: You have too much money and access to walk around with your hair looking like that. Somewhere between a bird’s nest and a stack of hay. Then she is posing up a storm and looking like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. #WhatinBrokenDownWigHell

  57. Jade says:

Beautiful and talented woman but she has no style at all. Her face looks a bit off in these pics though. I think it’s the lips. She and J Lo look best in blonde than brunette. Some people just need a different hair colour to make their skin pop. I look dowdy with all black hair so I lighten it a bit.

I have no trouble believing she is 34 though her look here makes her look older. I’m a bit perplexed though how some posters say they have been getting different information about her age throughout her career e.g. she was their age then somehow now she is older or younger. I’ve never had that and have always read that she and Britney were born in 1981. Unless it’s a good pr scrub, I am convinced they are my age. Next gossip!

  58. tilly says:

It really does happen that artists lower their age when they start their careers. Anastacia did the same thing. Executives at her record company told her that she would improve her chance of success in a youth-orientated music industry.
When I saw the video naughty girl with Usher I was a little suprised afterwards when I found out that Beyonce was much younger than him even though she looked the same age if not a little older.

  59. Bread and Circuses says:

I think it’s deeply unfair that there is so much pressure on a talented musician to be hot-looking and young.

If musicians (or actors) have to lie about their age or get some surgery to keep from being written off when they still have plenty to contribute, then I say let them. You do what you need to, Madonna and Bey.

They’re simply adapting as best they can to a crappy facet of their profession — that it’s only a meritocracy once some executive decides you’re sufficiently cute.

    • EN says:

      > think it’s deeply unfair that there is so much pressure on a talented musician to be hot-looking and young.

      Have you seen opera singers?

Pop-singers are not just musicians but are more like entertainers. For me, personally, beauty is not a requirement, but talent is.

Maybe it is a reflection of our shallow society that so many people cannot see beyond the superficial, but I am not on board with it,

    • jc126 says:

There’s pressure on everyone, even if unspoken. So much ageism out there.

  60. serena says:

I’m with you on everything here, Kaiser.

  61. Meg says:

she’s wearing her hair in that crazy pony tail again, once is fun, twice? is she trying to pull her skin back to look younger? her lips definitely look ‘done’

  62. Gigi says:

Not that I think she’s above lying but is it that implausible that someone decades older refers to people a couple years apart as the same age?

  63. Whatever Gurl says:

Hoda Kotb lightens her hair and she rarely gets flak for that.

  64. Cc says:

So weird how to me she actually looks a bit like Jay-Z in the last picture. :0

That’s not a good hairdo. And that’s a wig or weave you guys say? I don’t understand why anyone with beautiful natural hair would wear that thing. Terrible color too.

  65. Ewissa says:

I dont believe that she is actually 34-Im 35 and no surgery or fillers or botox. Not even special diet. And no1 would guess more than 28-flattering but that doesnt mean Im going to tell people that Im 28.
Think she is liar who accept own lies as truth and later actually resent that altered stuff as real-age,pregnancy,her instagram airbrushed pictures just pick….
