Nicki Minaj called out a Bill Cosby costume & insulted the disabled on Halloween

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj started Halloween weekend off in a civilized fashion, but then, well, things got pretty ugly. Here’s Nicki’s costume, which I really have no opinion about. I think she went as a Fairy Boobmother. The getup is classic Nicki, very tacky and attention seeking, but this post is more about her behavior over the weekend.

First, the good (if you can call it that because Bill Cosby is involved). Nicki called out some serious Internet grossness. She posted a photo (taken by DJ Clue) of a zany Cosby costume, which showed Mr. Quaaludes himself hugging the back of a guy (dressed as a woman) who was holding a cocktail and looking all drugged up. Nicki was disgusted and added this caption: “Our generation is so desensitized.” She’s absolutely correct, which goes for a huge chunk of Halloween costumes each year (like the Cecil the Lion killer one making the rounds). Here’s that Cosby-costume picture:

Our generation is so desensitized

Good on Nicki for calling this nastiness out. Now for the bad. Nicki posted a damning video snippet to her Instagram page. After people called her out for the video’s atrociousness, the clip disappeared. Here’s what happened — while Nicki was backstage at her Las Vegas club hosting gig, she waved her magic boob wand and demanded that a wheelchair-bound person “Walk! I command you to walk!” Then she laughed uproariously like being disabled was the funniest thing she’d ever seen. What was she thinking? The mere thought of posting the video and acting like this is deplorable. Oh, girl.

Nicki has defended herself by claiming that the person she commanded to walk wasn’t disabled and was her “friend in a scooter.” Oh really?

Wow she’s a nasty piece of work

  2. Belle Epoch says:

Does that person seem like a “friend” who is not disabled?

  3. Asha says:

Those bolt ons… do people really think that looks good, sexy even?

    • Elisa the I. says:

Yeah, right? Her boobs look like they are in pain.

    • doofus says:

squished to within an inch of their inflation.

and you can see the edge of her areola. klassy.

      • Rada says:

gross! and that can’t be healthy. even for a few hours. and what is that really gross looking pimple like thing on her arm?

    • antipodean says:

I thought the same, those mammaries look painful! Why is this bowling balls on the chest look a thing? It seems as if she is trying to be a cartoon version of something.

    • pinetree13 says:

I’ve always thought it didn’t look sexy but to my surprise, male acquaintances have confirmed that most of them DO Find bolt-ons appealing even though they look so fake. It boggles the mind.

  4. Lindy79 says:

That does look like a mobility scooter rather than a wheelchair, but swings and roundabouts its still gross and I don’t believe that it was a friend of hers, she’s doing it to the person’s back and they don’t even look aware, she also seems slightly hammered.

    Urgh

    • V4Real says:

I think it is a friend for several reasons.
1). I don’t think security would just allow a fan to just roam free will backstage near a celebrity unsupervised.
2). If that was an unable person that Nicki didn’t know due to social media we would have heard something from that disabled person.
3).Some outlets are now saying it was her stylist, so it was an able bodied woman.

Hey but I could be wrong.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Her costume is gross. The Cosby costume is disgusting. The wheelchair thing was offensive. Halloween. Ugh.

  6. Santia says:

The Cosby costume was ingenious. It captures a moment in time and continues to skewer Cosby. What Cosby did was horrendous (that shouldn’t even need to be said), but the fact that people are not letting him (or the public) forget it (especially since he was never punished for it) makes me kind of happy.

    • Joaneu says:

Gotta agree with you. The costume is making fun of Cosby, not of what he did. After so many years of conning people with his goody-two-shoes image, I too think it’s funny to have a laugh at his expense.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

How hilarious would you find it if you had been a victim? Some things are not funny. Ever. Rape is one of them.

      • AmyB says:

Yes I have to agree. Some things are NEVER funny: Rape, eating disorders, disability, mental illness, things like that. Shame some people are too ignorant to realize that.

      • Kitten says:

I guess that’s the problem that I have with it. I don’t understand how in this context one can mock the rapist without mocking the rape victims as well. I’m not sure it’s ever a good idea to make rape into a Halloween costume, you know?

      • Marty says:

Agreed. I don’t see the funny in dressing up as a serial rapist and one of his victims.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

And also, how would it feel as a victim to see yourself portrayed as sloppy drunk or drugged with Cosby groping your body? Haven’t the victims been subjected to enough indignity as it is without being part of a joke? I think it’s really insensitive.

    • Crumpet says:

I agree. I am all about skewering Cosby.

    • Wren says:

That’s what I thought too. Yes, it’s gross but Cosby is gross and the costume is proof that we have accepted the allegations against him as truth. Humor is a big tool people use to come to terms with things that upset and unsettle us.

Maybe the guy shouldn’t have done it, but the very fact of its existence says that Cosby is going down in history as “Cosby the Serial Rapist” and NOT “beloved iconic TV dad and comic”. That, at least, is a very good thing.

    • boredblond says:

She wasn’t doing this to bring attention to Cosby crimes–that’s been nonstop–she’s doing it for nicki attention. Ooo, outrageous-make everyone talk..shrug. This looks like a club party where she was paid to attend with lowly commoners, so I doubt the crowd were her ‘friends’.

    • Pandy says:

The Cosby costume is hilarious. Nicky, not so much.

      • Anne tommy says:

Frankly I’ve avoided all the previous posts on dressing up at Halloween, fine for kids but really tedious when done by adults, don’t care if that makes me a party pooper: party fine, celebs wearing expensive over-elaborate gear annoying especially when it seems to be just another photo opp for the (quite unpleasant) bazongas.

  7. Ellie says:

I’m surprised her reaction to people being mad at her stupid disability remark wasn’t “but you don’t get the point, I’m talking about racism/sexism, you can all apologise to me now”.
She’s always like this – every time she says/does something stupid, no matter what after the fact she turns it around so it’s good for her and no apologies.

“Bitch, u knew. That’s my friend in a scooter. Have a great day. I surely will. “Of course it’s your “friend in a scooter” Nicki.

    • Jayna says:

She calls out everyone, but I never see her apologize for anything. She should have said, “In hindsight, it was very insensitive to have tweeted that photo, because every day of their lives the disabled wish they could get up and walk. So my joke wasn’t funny.”

Fairy Godmothers grant wishes. They don’t point their wand at the back of a disabled person (or friend pretending to be one) in a wheelchair/mobility scooter stating, “Walk! I command you to walk.”

      • Ellie says:

Exactly. If someone would have said something that she found offensive, she never ever would have let go of it and would be demanding apologies left, right and center. She’s just such a repulsive and smug individual. I just really dislike people who demand sacred cow status for one issue and yet act like a twat about another.

      • Colette says:

Apologize for what teasing her drunk make up artist who was sitting on an unattended scooter? GMAFB.People majoring in the minor. If Taylor did the same sh##, it would be HeHeHe HaHaHa.

      • Jib says:

@Colette, even if she was making fun of a friend in a scooter, her intent was to pretend to make a crippled person walk. Sure. That’s just hilarious. She’s funnier than Tina Fey.

    • claire says:

Nikki loves to create drama. End of.

  8. NewWester says:

That Bill Cosby is disgusting , but I remember after the OJ Simpson murders there were costumes of a woman in a blond wig with bruises and the guy wearing a football jersey holding a golf club. Then there were the tasteless Twin Towers costumes. Unfrontnately these “adults” do not seem to have the brains to realize how tasteless and upsetting their costumes are. The human race is so pathetic at times

    • Nicolette says:

It is and getting more so by the day. Some people just don’t care about crossing that line, if anything they’re all about the shock and awe and pushing other’s buttons.

  9. SloaneY says:

She just gets more and more repulsive the more she opens her mouth. Maybe she should try shutting it.

  10. Artemis says:

I believe it was a friend in a scooter simply because Nicki used it to justify the situation. She isn’t going to say those things in public and upload it on social media if it wasn’t her friend. She isn’t stupid like that.

But she is stupid for thinking that even though it’s her friend, it’s still shameful deplorable behaviour as disabled people are STILL the butt of the damn joke. She even says in the beginning ‘handi-man’, this is just plain wrong. And somebody in her entourage was going to say ‘new legs’ for sure.

It’s just vile and it’s sad she never apologizes for her bad behaviour and thinks her good behaviour (speaking out on racism and sexism) is going to get her free pass for the stupid shit. Nah, that’s NOT how it works.

This is also a good lesson that when you’re drunk, you need to keep your wits about you. Drunk thoughts are just sober thoughts finally expressed. Basically, she’s a horrible person sober or drunk.

    • Kitten says:

Really, why don’t people know enough to just stay away from social media when they’re drinking?

    • V4Real says:

Here’s my issue with the “walk” comment. As Artemis said I do believe it’s a friend or someone in her entourage.” Why else would he be backstage unsupervised without any security around him. Perhaps she was distasteful concerning the disabled. But why isn’t the public calling the person out for pretending to be disabled. I think the public is so concerned with shaming the celebrity that they look over the non-celeb that was mocking the disabled by pretending to be one. Nicki gets slammed and no one bats an eye at the non disabled person in the scooter.

Edit; Some outlets are now saying that it is a woman and it was Nicki’s stylist who is not disabled.

      • SloaneY says:

I’m sure she was told to “look disabled” by Nicki.

      • I Choose Me says:

Whoever it was I find them equally at fault.

This reminds me of Justin Timberlake whose friends thought it was a good idea to record homeless people congratulating JT. I thought all involved were tacky and tasteless. But the celebrity is always going to get called out first.

      • Artemis says:

I assume (as Nicki doesn’t bother to explain the situation properly) that the person was also drunk, to the point of where he/she couldn’t stand. They seem to be partying after all.

      • Marty says:

Whoever it was Nicki needs to learn that if she wants others to take responsibility for their mistakes she needs to do the same.

    • V4Real says:

@Artemis She said something like where is handi-man. She is talking about Damon Wayans character handi-man from “In Living Color”, right?

      • Artemis says:

I don’t know, I’m not familiar with that. Regardless, it still sounds offensive though.

      • V4Real says:

Yes I just looked at it again and it seems as if she was referring to the fictional character played by Damon Wayans on the show “In Living Color.” Damon also went on to make a movie called Blank Man. He profession was Handi-Man and his alter Ego was Blank Man.

      • Jib says:

Yes, Handi Man was the disabled superhero figure on “In Living color.” So she was looking for someone disabled to “fix” with her wand.

    • I Choose Me says:

      +1 to everything you said.

People just need to stop and think. Celebrities and the average individual both, instead of rushing to document and post every single minutiae of their lives online.

  11. lila fowler says:

    She’s such a loser.

  12. Decorative Item says:

She’s nasty and her shoes are horrid.

  13. stellar says:

Did you see the huge weave/wig on the scooter operater? Looks like her friend or employee. Non-story.

    • FingerBinger says:

Why was the friend on a scooter to begin with? No matter how you spin it what she said still wasn’t funny.

      • Colette says:

The same reason I sat in a wheelchair when I was visiting my aunt in the hospital because I wanted to sit down .If someone needed the wheelchair I would have got up.

  14. lucy2 says:

I supposed it’s slightly less awful that it was a friend and not some random stranger, but still, there’s something icky about saying “Walk!” to someone using a device designed for those with mobility problems.
Also, her boobs look painful, like balloons about to pop.

  15. PennyLane says:

Isn’t the “I can’t be making fun of the disabled because it’s my friend!” excuse pretty much the same as saying, “I can’t possibly be a racist because my friends are black!”?

    • Marty says:

Yes. It’s EXACTLY the same thing………

    • V4Real says:

“Isn’t the “I can’t be making fun of the disabled because it’s my friend!” excuse pretty much the same as saying, “I can’t possibly be a racist because my friends are black!”?”

I agree with that too except that her friend is not actually disabled. It was her stylist riding around in a scooter.

    • Colette says:

No because her friend isn’t disabled so no it’s the same.Try again, boo.

  16. Jaded says:

“You need your mouth sewn shut” (quoting from Ab Fab when Edie, contemplating a facelift, asks Saffie if she needs surgery).

  17. Veronica says:

I’ve made some pretty non-PC jokes with disabled friends before, but it’s definitely a “know your audience” situation, and the public internet is not the audience you want.

  18. sassy says:

Re: the cosby costume…people have always made costumes lampooning the latest scandals and headline makers.

  19. CK says:

I’m not going to rush to outrage over the scooter/wheelchair thing. If she’s to be believed and that is her able bodied friend just playing around in a scooter, then commanding her to walk isn’t some great slight against the disabled. That’s adding a lot more context to the situation then there actually is and just getting worked up for no reason. Is it funny to me? Not particularly, but I’m sure I’ve said and had friends say things that only work with context. Sometimes someone sitting in a chair is just someone sitting in a chair. Not some insidious plot to lambaste the disabled.

    • pinetree13 says:

I agree. I believe her, I think it was someone she knew who was riding in a scooter but could walk. I’m sure she wouldn’t do this to an actual disabled person. She’s not hitler!

    • Amanda G says:

I agree, people get offended over the silliest things.

  20. TOPgirl says:

I don’t know anyone who would sit in a mechanical wheelchair for the sake of having fun. I doubt that was her friend at all. Those types of wheelchair usually have a device installed and are for people who have severe disabilities that can’t even move at all. I hope she rots for thinking she was cute to make fun of someone like that.

  21. Naddie says:

That’s her real talent: when you think she can do no worse… she does.

  22. ete1 says:

Is that a pimple on her shoulder on that last pic
