Johnny Depp loves Amber Heard because she’s ‘literate’ & a ‘blues aficionado’

wenn23193889

On Monday, we discussed the photos from this weekend’s LA premiere of The Danish Girl. Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander were there, of course, as was supporting player Amber Heard. By all accounts, Amber’s part is small and while she’s arguably the most gossip-worthy person in the cast, it’s not like the studio is building an awards campaign around her performance. Amber is just hustling for the sake of hustling, which is why she once again trotted out her husband, Johnny “Scarfy” Depp, to yet another premiere. Many of you commented about how Depp looked like ten kinds of hell at the premiere (truth), but did you also know he was drunk and slurring his words? It’s true. I was watching this video at E! News and he was messy. Not fall-down-drunk messy, but you could definitely tell that he had been drinking and “maintaining” for a while. Here’s a clip:

As for what Depp actually says in the interview… for what it’s worth, he seems genuinely proud of Amber and he seems to like The Danish Girl as a film. He told E!: “It’s a very beautiful movie and I’m very proud of her. She worked very hard…It looks like where she belongs. I always felt like I was supposed to be in a different time and I kind of felt that way about her the first time I saw her. So it looks right and perfect for her.”

He was also asked how he knew Amber was The One (eyeroll). Scarfy’s answer is just as eye-rolly too. The first thing that came to mind? Amber knows the blues: “We connect on a lot of levels but the first things that really got me was she’s an aficionado of the blues. I would play a song, some old obscure blues song and she knew what it was.” He also likes that she reads: “She’s very very literate. She’s a voracious reader as I have been so we connected on that as well. And she’s kind of brilliant. I’m a lucky man.”

Here’s my question: do you think Amber is embarrassed? Like, she thought she scored the white whale, the impossible “get” when she started up with Depp (likely when he was still with Vanessa Paradis). And now she’s stuck with a bloated, drunk mess who slurs his way through red carpet interviews.

It has to be partially this picture that keeps getting posted, but he is becoming so Mickey Rourkish. He always tried to play down his looks and dang it looks like he succeeded. Ah, watch reruns of 21 jump Street….lol

    • Kitten says:

He does look like Rourke. They both look like meth addicts in these photos…and I’m not trying to make light of it–these two literally look like they’re on the hard sh*t here.

    • Isabelle says:

Rourke is a much better actor IMO but right on the head about he is mimicking him. Lets just hope he doesn’t do the horrible plastic surgery.

      • Jane says:

“Rourke is a much better actor IMO”

Lol. Must be why Depp has more Oscar nominations and awards.

      • Nancy says:

I loved Mickey Rourke In Pope of Greenwich Village. I think it’s from the 90’s. Eric Roberts starred in it as well. Classic. Most people remember 9-1/2 weeks, but in Pope he was handsome and slick. Those were the days right Mickey!

      • Dangles says:

Nothing screams philistine quite like someone who points to Oscars or box office numbers as infallible evidence of an actor’s talent.

      • Isabelle says:

Rourke vanished from acting after his long stint with drug/alcohol abuse so he hasn’t done or been offered the great roles Depp has been offered….but yeah standing by his acting. The Wrester, probably one of the best lead acting jobs in the last 10 years. Which btw…he won best actor. To add on, some of the best actors in Hollywood have never won and Oscar, Joaquin Phoenix as one example.

    • Priya says:

You’re right! He looked handsome not that long ago and he looks like a bloated old man next to the younger and more attractive looking Amber Heard. Yikes.

George Clooney started looking older and more frail when I first saw him standing next to the younger and fresher looking Amal.

I wonder if either of these guys notice that standing next to their much younger wives just make them look much older? I wonder if it will start to bother them.

      • Dinah says:

My thoughts exactly. Plus, marrying someone with double your energy will age you at an even faster rate. That’s why I love middle age men who don’t look for women under 40 when they want a companion. They want women with life experience, who get their snide pop cultural references, and can relate to being somewhat set in their ways, and sleeping in and doing nothing when activities are the other option. These are the guys who usually age extremely well because they’re wise beyond their peers’ years.

      • Belgian_sky says:

Do you think they really care, Priya? These guys are looking for trophy wives, so I think such difference only shows that they can have what they want…

    • Becks says:

He does look like Rourke and it’s really sad.
But I have to say that I saw her in the elevator of my friend’s building. (Apparently Depp owns the penthouse there). She is STUNNING! She’s very tall and looks better in person. And I live in LA, where models are a dime a dozen, there are beautiful women everwhere.
I think she’s a horrible actress and I think it’s her looks that have opened doors for her.

    • Carol says:

Good call. I was wondering who he reminded me of and yes, its Mickey Rourke. They both can’t open their mouths when they speak.

    • Onyx says:

Looks like he’s, unfortunately, already gone under the knife.

  2. Liz says:

I think what he said was quite nice.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

I agree, he said nice things about her. He seems so uncomfortable in these types of red carpet interviews. Weird since hes been doing this forever. I also think at the end he said “Shes kind of pretty” instead of “kind of brilliant” Might just be my ears though.

      • Jegede says:

        @SnarkySnarkers – I heard “She’s kind of pretty” too.

      • Snappyfish says:

Oh Good Lord! She’s v v literate? Does he mean educated & cultured? Please! Does he mean polished & lucid? Or that she knows how to read? Ding ding we have a winner.

It sweet he says nice things about his much much younger wife. He has a knack to make people think that he, and those around him, are intelligent & cultured. He is rich & entitled much like his wife. So she can read, good for her . This may sound snarky but give me a break.

      • mmm says:

in the other interview. the larger interview he did for E! (he didn’t seem drunk by the way, just really tired) is clear he said “kind of brilliant” even by the end, Marc Malking ask him for her beauty because he didn’t mention anything about her look

      • FLORC says:

        Snappyfish
Literate was a poor choice. I can read a wiki page on blues too…

Heard transforms herself to what is best apealing for her needs. Highly adaptive.

      • Kitty says:

@Snappyfish Yeah, how dare he praise his wife! He should just say that he likes having sex with her, amirite?

      • Snappyfish says:

@Florc you hit the nail on the head! She IS a changeling. GREAT call!!

@Kitty I think it’s sweet he praises his wife but he might actually use a word that is a complement. Heard is not an erudite young woman. Hardly. The saddest part is maybe he really thinks she is bright. That only shows his lack of intelligence. I’m sure we will hear all about how immature she is once this relationship is over…no disrespect to you meant

      • Kitty says:

@Snappyfish Why are you adamant that she is not bright? I’ve seen/read interviews with her and I agree with him.

      • Snappyfish says:

Kitty I heard an interview right after they married & she was vapid at best. Maybe I’m judging her harshly based on that & what I’ve read in articles. I’m not impressed with him either & his constant need to make people think he is deep. I might be painting them both with the same brush. I just see her like most other Hollywood high school dropouts. I do think she could have done better than Depp.

        Just my opinion

      • Kitty says:

@Snappyfish He doesn’t have a constant need to make people think he is deep, he is just intelligent and cultured.

If she is not bright and just another Hollywood high school dropout, then how could she have done better than Depp, who is one of the biggest and most powerful actors in Hollywood?

  3. INeedANap says:

Vanessa had him in his best years and is the mother of his children. Amber is getting unevenly microwaved leftovers.

    • Zayn says:

He had her in her best years, too.

      • Loopy says:

So best years only equate to younger or can someone elaborate.

      • Truthful says:

Oh no! She is actually back at the top of her game!

      • Talie says:

The ciggie smoking hasn’t been kind to either one of them.

      • Kitten says:

Really? Because I’m pretty sure Vanessa has her sh*t together, unlike this guy right here who looks like a human dumpster.

      • Truthful says:

@kitten: she is on the cover of the last issue of Vogue France

      • Zayn says:

@Truthful Is she? Johnny’s the one who is back at the top of his game with Black Mass.

@Kitten Are you sure you have seen her lately? She looks worse than him, and he doesn’t even look that bad. If he looks like a human dumpster, then she looks like a dried up corpse.

      • Truthful says:

@ Zayn: a movie making a total gross of 82 millions (with all the publicity ) is hardly being at the top of one’s game, when that person was once opening week-ends twice or third times as big as the total gross…

Vanessa Paradis is not a celebrity , she is an artist, she writes music for herself and others, and she is back to her career. She is a supremely respected artist in her field.

You can say whatever you want about her physical appearance (you know in France we are not really nitpicking women for aging… looks and youth are not the sole value of being a woman over here…. if you can understand that point…) but she doesn’t look drugged up and out of her mind, while Depp is looking in a permanent drugs and booze haze lately.

And yes Vanessa Paradis is at the top of her game, she just finished a soldout tour, had an album sold greatly (she is a musician first) , writes for other musicians and is on the cover of the last issue of Vogue France.

Meanwhile Depp is high on red carpets speaking about movies he isn’t even in to try boosting the career of his last toy… and his IMDB page is packed with third of fourth editions of his disney movies… Aww what an artist… LOL

      • Jegede says:

        Meh.
Post Depp, Paradis took up with ex heroin addict Biolay, who cheated on her and very publicly dumped her to go back to his other ex.

The years of smoking and starving definitely show on her visage. Photo shopped magazine covers or nah, she’s not that much better off than Depp.

They’ve both moved on with their lives.

      • Kitten says:

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because I find her quite stunning in recent candids:
        http://cdn2.independent.ie/incoming/article31587559.ece/3e63e/ALTERNATES/w620/depp1.jpg

      • Zayn says:

@Truthful So being in Oscar talks and already getting awards for his critically acclaimed performance in Black Mass doesn’t mean that he is at the top of his game? It is a violent, R-rated gangster movie full of F-words, and it had a medium budget. It was not intended to be a blockbuster and make a billion dollars like Depp’s Disney films. It did very well, all things considered, and had a respectable opening weekend. It’s actually become one of his biggest box office openings now. How is that not being at the top of his game?

Funny how you only mention good things when it comes to Vanessa and make Depp all about some random red carpet interview. He was asked what he likes most about his “toy” of +3 years, he wasn’t promoting a movie he isn’t in.

Depp is the face of Dior’s new fragrance for men, and he’s covered many magazines recently, but I guess that’s not worth mentioning? Things like that are only accomplishments when it comes to Vanessa, right?

And yeah, he has 2 Disney sequels, that he got big paychecks for, coming up and they’re gonna be huge. Poor Johnny!

    • Snazzy says:

Unevenly microwaved leftovers … love this!

    • Louisa says:

      @ Ineedanap
This might be the most hilariously appropriate comment, I’ve seen yet! Thank you for making my morning

    • Nancy says:

I liked him with Winona. Wino forever. Best semi eliminated tattoo ever.

  4. Katie says:

Good grief he looks horrible! I was going to be snarky about the literate comment but I can’t even after looking at the pictures.

  5. Karen says:

I now always wonder if Vanessa kept Johnny on a healthy diet and attempted to limit the booze. Right? Because ever since he hooked up with “cool girl” Amber, who would never “nag” him about his drinking, he’s been a heavily bloated and drunken mess.

His transformation in such a short amount of time is crazy. And this doesn’t seem like a transformation made by a blissfully happy man.

    • kate says:

I think time just caught up with him. He’s always been a very heavy drinker among other things. When he still looked hot and sexy I think people just assumed that was how he talked, walked etc. Now that he looks the part of the wobbly, slurring drunk, people are taking notice.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree, Kate. My ex was an alcoholic, and nobody knew until he got into his late 40s and it started to visibly and mentally take its toll.

      • Dinah says:

I agree. There are heavy drinkers, but no happy drinkers. Funny that.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I suspect Vanessa did just that and Amber didn’t know. She just saw the surface and thought “Bingo!”. And then she woke up and realized that actually, it was his nagging wife who kept him not only in line, so to speak, but hot. Reminds me of Alec Baldwin’s character in It’s Complicated. I don’t feel bad for her, she’s such a smug and self-involved person.

    • JenniferJustice says:

I’ve seen this with many a mistress and second wives. The men will carry on with them, leave their wife for them because the mistress or girlfriend have no standards. He’s allowed to do anything they he wants and the women can’t say or do anything later when it all really surfaces because it will bust up their “easy going” vibe that got them in the first place. He has no family to be responsible for any more. Vanessa kept the family while Johnny gets to act like a care-free 20s something. And he’s looked horrid since they hooked up. I don’t think she cares or she doesn’t see him the way we see him….still starstruck?

    • ell says:

ok, but it’s his responsibility to keep himself healthy, not his women.

      • Kitten says:

I absolutely agree and I don’t think it’s fair to lay the blame squarely on Amber’s shoulders.

That being said, it’s true that a certain relationship dynamic can exacerbate an addict’s issue by encouraging/fostering recreational drug use. I have no idea whether this is what’s happening between Amber and Johnny but just to speculate: it’s possible that she’s using with him and it’s possible that he feels insecure enough in the relationship that using makes him feel more relaxed/comfortable, it’s also possible that he feels like he has to keep up with her. Who knows what the real story is but one has to wonder if his relationship with Amber is at least one factor in his descent into sad, drunken scarfdom.

      • Kaye says:

        @ Kitten: well said.

      • Wren says:

Yes, it’s his responsibility but I agree with Kitten. Maybe Amber “allows” him to indulge himself in a way Vanessa wouldn’t put up with, so he’s just doing exactly as he pleases without anyone telling him “hey, knock it off”.

    • mmm says:

Johnny looked great since he broke with Vanessa Paradis, until the end of the past year (the campaign for Dior it was shoot in December past year) and now he was looking way better until the past week or so. He didn’t look bloated with his real clothes, but at the premiere was huge wardrobe fail and he looked like he didn’t sleep in some days. Warner is making him to attend every screening of black mass, some people think it’s taking his toll on him

    • Cindy says:

My completely unprofessional opinion is that hard living, i.e. drinking, drugs, catches up to addicts in their late forties and fifties. I am starting to get uncomfortable about even commenting on Depp because I wonder if his body is going to just quit here soon. Kinda like with Lindsey Lohan….. I generally don’t even want to say anything because she is so far gone it’s just a fatal car wreck at this point. Can’t believe I just compared Depp to Lohan, but here we are, it really has come to this 🙁

      • Christin says:

Mean Girls was on TV last night, and LL looked completely different then. Lifestyle eventually catches up with people (some sooner than others).

  6. Calcifer says:

I think Amber would prefer a sober Johnny, but she still feels lucky to ‘have’ him. She said about her old Mustang ‘I bought a beautiul piece of driveable junk’. It may seem strange to say this, but I think she looks at Johnny the same way. She likes his rarity value and his ‘vintage’ look.

  7. i honestly think after amber he will get back in shape and hit it with Eva Green …… (i was hoping they were going to be the WINO 4 EVA 3.0)

for amber this was suppose to be exactly as you noted Kaiser and now she’s with val kilmer 2.0 and it kills her truly…..

she wanted what all us 20’s somethings/30 somethings wanted the (blow, what’s eating gilbert grape, kate-moss vag hugging) johnny….. but instead she got ….. the AA meeting reject

this was the same except more extreme for KAtie Holmes and Cruise….. she adored and idolized the (vanilla sky, top gun, interview with a vamp, eyes wide shut Cruise) but instead got couch-jumper, COS megalomaniac, toxed, stilts Cruise

time machine ladies…create it, use it….. lololololol

    • Truthful says:

I seriously hope someone else for Eva Green, she is WAY better than that!

      • Jane says:

Why is she WAY better than that?

      • Truthful says:

Younger , madly gorgeous AND Talented (contrary to his wife who only have 2 out of these 3 qualities). With that combination why would she go for an old washed up unhealthy actor decades older? Of course she deserve better, a young handsome and talented man to match her qualities. That’s why she is way better than that

    • JenniferJustice says:

      This. They are starstruck.

  8. Saphana says:

too be fair Depp was never very rhetorically gifted. also what else would he say? “i wanted to hit something younger?”

  9. SusanneToo says:

I saw JD’s Sauvage ad last night. When was it shot? He still looked good. This is sad.

    • Liz says:

Sept/ Oct 2014. he’s seriously began to decline after that, round about the time he graced the Hollywood Film Awards with that glorious drunken speech.

  10. Zayn says:

What he said is sweet. Why would she be embarrassed? I think she loves him.

  11. Jane says:

It’s hilarious to me that he is getting way more attention for this premiere than the stars of the movie.

    • JaneFR says:

      +1.
The supporting role comes with her superstar husband and (to?) outshine the real stars of the film. I would not like her just for that. Does she also wear bridal white to friends wedding ?

To the amber/johnny apologists, yes, she has the right to come with her husband. But he could politely decline to be photographed and comment.

      • Liz says:

Yes! It’s really bad PR to upstage the stars. Especially with both Alicia and Eddie in the running for awards!!

But what’s the story from their LA premiere….Johnny Depp said something about his wife. I think Alicia has had enough and you can see it in the cast photos. Eddie is probably not so upset cause he just won an Oscar.

  12. Chaucer says:

I think Amber was very caught up in the fantasy of being Mrs. Depp. I enjoy her, I do think she’s quite beautiful and smart, albeit talentless.

And honestly I just feel pity for Johnny. He has always been severely insecure, and I don’t think he ever learned to deal with his fame.

It’s a difficult situation for them both and I hope it works out for them.

  13. als says:

They look dirty. Her make-up and hair, his outfit…they just look dirty.(and not in a good way)

  14. Loopy says:

This suit look is kinda similar to the Brangelina look at some premiere a while ago.

  15. Brendan says:

I honestly don’t have a strong visceral reaction to these two, besides finding Johnny fatiguing as a performer. However, I got a little chuckle over the title. “She’s literate.”

GOD, what a love story! I can’t wait to meet a man who gazes at me from across the crowded room at a party and tells his conversation circle “I love him. He’s literate.”

    • Jane says:

It’s funny that you find him “fatiguing” as a performer, considering he just delivered one of his best performances in Black Mass.

      • Brendan says:

I think it’s due to the uneven ratio of strong performances from him as a talented actor over the recent years, and all the roles where he is “Johnny Depping.”

Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderful, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mortdecai, Dark Shadows, The Lone Ranger, ALL the Pirates films. etc. I know that those don’t nearly encompass his entire filmography, but when it comes to my consciousness of him that’s how I see him now. I think it’s because all those projects came so close together and he made similar performance decisions in all of them.

      • JenniferJustice says:

I agree with Brendan. Although the projects he mentions don’t encompass Depp’s entire repertoire, they were all done in such a short span of time and all those characters pretty much mirror eachother – he was becoming another Nick Cage which was playing the same character the same way – just changing costumes and scenery – as if he has nothing to tap into other than the character he is as himself, except with Johnny it was weirdness, mania, and alot of silly schtick stuff that he repeated over and over. It was definitely exhausting to watch year after year – predictable but so hyper and affected. For me, his better acting was in his young years. Even the first movie I remember seeing him in – the first Nightmare on Elm Street – where he played a normal regular guy, he seemed more talented and relatable. Same with What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. He does much better playing roles that don’t require manic silliness with the same overly done ?English? accent. Back off that stuff Johnny. We have Jesse Eisenberg and Shia LaBouf to play the manic fast-talking, in a tizzy, parts.

      • Truthful says:

I think Black mass is considered a success comparatively to his previous movies, as its not a major failure. Because a 84 millions gross worldwide is just a movie covering its budget.

And the success of the movie is mainly due to the story, and a good overall cast

So yes he is a fatiguing performer, if this is the best of what he can delivers now

      • Jane says:

@Truthful It’s not all about the box office, although it did well and opened with $22m and became one of his biggest box office openings. It didn’t even open in some big markets yet.

The success of the movie is mainly due to HIM, to his performance that earned him career-best reviews, raves, awards and Oscar consideration.

So no he is not “fatiguing” as a performer at all if he can deliver one of the best performances of the year now.

    • vauvert says:

I agree with Brendan too. I don’t care about Black Mass so won’t see it, (the subject really does it appeal to me, and Depp is no longer an actor for whose sake I would watch any movie he was in). He may be good in it but everything I have seen that Depp has made in the last five+ years has been a one note performance. He was just playing himself, wearing his multitude of accessories and acting like a fool.
Like others said, of course he is responsible for his own health, but it is also true that some relationships bring out the best in people and others don’t. Amber is very beautiful so while she is young and in particular while she is Mrs. Depp she will continue to be given acting jobs but the truth is that she has the charisma and talent of a doorknob. And whatever reason she has to be with him, or combination of reasons, he appears to be in a terrible decline since they got together – the way he looks, dresses, talks in interviews…. He comes across as a complete mess. Do I blame her? No idea, I don’t know them, but he doesn’t seem to be thriving, and she is just a smug face on the RC, no amount of Depp will make her into a star or a good actress. Eventually when this sinks in she will be bitter, especially once she starts aging.
As for the “public speaking fear” excuse – please. If you don’t want to speak, you can stay home. Or politely decline interviews. He is a big enough name still to get away with it.

      • Kitty says:

Yeah, stay away from his phenomenal performance in Black Mass and keep criticizing him for the few movies you’ve seen with him in the past few years.. or did you only see the trailers?

Btw, he only wears accessories in the Pirates films.

  16. Brittney B. says:

She’s still crafting herself in her idol’s image… this suit is like the lovechild of a few different suits that Angelina has worn on red carpets before. Can’t judge, though; I take some fashion cues from her too.

  17. ell says:

what’s going on with his teeth?? no wait, i don’t wanna know.

  18. mj says:

Currently re-reading Last Night at the Viper Room, and I genuinely feel sorry for him.

  19. Trillion says:

Both of them seem to go out of their way to sell this image of Amber that I’m just not buying. All tell, no show.

  20. Leftovers says:

Do not underestimate the power of shared music knowledge. Still there myself. <3

  21. iheartjacksparrow says:

I initially thought the title for the article was “illiterate.”

  22. FingerBinger says:

Amber bugs so many. They don’t bother me.

  23. seesittellsit says:

Right. And Kate fell in love with William because of his fine character, ambition, and intellectual depth.

  24. Cupcake says:

    Gross

  25. kri says:

Amber is literate??!! Holy crap. This is how headlines are made, people!

  26. Leah says:

Despite all, lets not forget Depp is a very talented actor with a good body of work behind him, even though he looks terrible lately, he is still a thousand times more interesting than a generic hollywood starlet of no obvious talent or originality.
That said, i side eye this whole bookworm image they keep selling. If he really thinks she is an intellectual match, he really isn’t that bright. Even by hollywood standards she doesnt come across as particularly educated, interesting or bright. I suspect hes mainly with her because she makes him feel young again.

  27. mmm says:

he didn’t sound drunk in the complete interview with E! (there’s a larger version), he sounded exhausted
Warner is making him to assist to several Q&A and lunch with the Academy members and he looked fine in the pics at the lunch the day before. And the weekend before they attended the governors awards and he looked fine too
    https://pmcvariety.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/quentin-tarantino-kurt-russell-johnny-depp-and-amber-heard.jpg?w=670&h=377&crop=1

But i guess he’s not comfortable doing so, it could been hard for a person with social anxiety like him to agree to attend all these events.

At her premiere his clothes looked terrible on him and he seemed so tired, but in good mood anyway, so i guess it may be only something temporal. The sooner his promotional work is over, it’ll be better for him

stuttering, stammering, searching for words and barely able to keep his eyes open doesn’t seem drunk to you? You need to go watch some of his pre marriage red carpet interviews. Again, we’re not talking falling down drunk, but sober he is not. He’s admitted to drinking to get through these things and has been seen drinking at every event since Venice. It’s time to accept, he’s back at the bottle again. It’s not a good thing, I feel for him. I wish he’d stay home rather than feel the need to parade around and play the game, especially “in support of his wife” , who really should put on her big girl panties and do her events alone. That would be her best way of “supporting” HIM.

  29. Veronica says:

I’m assuming we’re using the Hollywood version of literate, which involves basic reading skills and a working knowledge any book longer than twenty pages and isn’t all pictures.

  30. Betti says:

God if my bf called me literate to the world i would slap his head up – he really could have worded that better. Yes she reads, he should have stuck with ‘she’s a voracious reader’.

  31. Salty says:

He looks really, really bad. But he’s locked her in and she’ll be wheeling him around when he’s due for the nursing home.

    • GNT says:

God, you lot are exaggerating way too much. He looks better than many men his age in the REAL WORLD.

He’s 52, not 72. He’ll be fine if he just sobers up a bit. It’s not that bad.

      • Cirque28 says:

IKR? People are comparing 52 year old Johnny to the breathtaking 22 year old Johnny and it’s ridic. He *does* seem slightly unhealthy these days, but it’s nothing a couple of months of sobriety wouldn’t fix.

Overall, the man is simply 52. End of. Everything that’s young will someday be middle aged. If the guy in these pics was somebody’s uncle instead of supposed-to-be-flawless Depp, we’d all be like, “52? Wow, your uncle is cool!”

      • Salty says:

It’s because he had a delayed aging thing and looked the same at 50 and 25. Then overnight we get THIS. It’s nothing personal. It’s just gossip on a site. I’m sure he could reverse the bloat if he wanted to.

      • Truthful says:

Most 52 years old men in the REAL WORLD look way much better, including my dad who is 6 years older.Fit, healthy and dynamic, most men his age are well in rea life… and celebrities his age could pass for his sons, cane believe john Stamos or Keanu reeves are his age???!!

      • GNT says:

@Truthful You keep telling that to yourself. You obviously haven’t seen what most men his age actually look like in the REAL WORLD. Most men his age are fat and hideous. The ones who look good are rare.

Can you please show me a photo of your dad who supposedly looks better?

Could Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe and George Clooney pass for his sons too? Please.

      • Salty says:

I think the problem with JD is that he’s had an easy ride with his looks for most of his life and so he’s lived the hard drinking lifestyle without consequences until now. I would love to be his nutritionist and interventionist and put him on a cleanse for two months. We’ll get the old Johnny back in no time.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

Who knows what Depp’s problem really is. Some say alcohol. Some say excess body weight. It might be some kind of bloatedness. There are several diseases which cause bloatedness. So who knows.

most men in Depp’s age bracket in the real world do look worse than Depp.

    • Veronica says:

I think the problem is more about the affectations he wears to cover his age rather just wearing his age. He looks pretty good for 52 – not great but not terrible – but all the “hip” clothing and hair just makes the unavoidable signs of aging (the weight gain, the skin) stand out more in comparison.

  32. Elsa says:

I think that what makes Johnny look bad are his clothes. He was wearing his normal clothes a few days before and was looking just fine and much slimmer. His movies have entertained me and millions of people for the last decades and sorry but I just can’t turn my back to him and dislike him like some do.He is very talented and has a good heart. I do hope that their relationship is as good as they make it sound. He is a good man and I don’t want to see him be in a bad place. His Black Mass performance was brilliant, one of his best ever. He just owned the role. I know hating on him is fashionable these days but I think it’s unfair. And let’s face it we all say crazy things when we are in love anyway. He and Amber have actually lasted more than anyone expected them to and they seem to be doing just fine. Let him be, he was never a “normal ” person anyway.

  33. Miran says:

Santo dios Johnny. He looks atrocious.

  34. Pondering thoughts says:

From Amber Heard’s wikipedia, Ayn Rand and all she needs is herself and so on:

“Amber Heard was born in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Patricia Paige (née Parsons), an internet researcher, and David Clinton Heard, a contractor.[1][7][8] She has a sister, Whitney.[1] She dropped out of high school, eventually earning a diploma through a home-study course.[9] When Heard was 16, her best friend died in a car crash and Heard, who was raised Catholic, subsequently declared herself an atheist after being introduced to the works of Ayn Rand by her then-boyfriend.[9] She has said of Rand, “I’ve read all of her books. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with her ideals. All I’ve ever needed is myself.”[<<<<<——- Sic!][9]"

    • Salty says:

“All I’ve ever needed is myself,” said all the psychopaths that have ever existed.

I usually keep track of the celebs that are Ayn Rand fans. I didn’t know AH was one. Other than being morally repugnant, Ayn Rand is a big joke in economics. She’s not taken seriously by political scientists either. Only selfish people, the conceptually incompetent, and teenagers take her ideas seriously. They’re not workable in reality.

      • Liz says:

“All I’ve ever needed is myself,” said all the psychopaths that have ever existed.
        Nailed it!

  35. Blackbetty says:

    Cant stabd his wife

  36. BTF says:

I just see nothing wrong with what he said. They have similar tastes! That’s good.

  37. Liz says:

Ms. “Don’t make eye contact, you’re embarrassing me” for sure is embarssed and I hope she starts nagging him because I suspect that will be the beginning of the end.

  38. Fan says:

Why can’t he admit that he had fallen out of love and is in love with someone else. He should not make literacy thing as an excuse.

    • Zayn says:

He was asked what he likes most about Amber. He is not trying to defend himself. It was a quick red carpet interview, not an in-depth sit down interview.

He talked many times about how the last years with Paradis were bad and that they broke up amicably and have remained friends for the sake of the kids. Let him breathe.

      • Liz says:

His last years with Paradis were hard because he was a drunk and junkie and she had enough. He couldn’t keep it together so she LEFT. that’s why he can talk about still loving her. Love, by the way, is a word he has yet to use when referring to Amber.
And OF COURSE they’re PR statement was all “amicable” really, when does it NOT say that?? Geez people, how naive can you be?

  39. Meg says:

correct me if i’m wrong-maybe because he was younger his being drunk on red carpets and at film award shows didnt’ look as bad-but I don’t remember him being openly drunk at functions like this when he was with vanessa. is he unhappy with his life and is numbing the pain? true, this was his wife’s event, not his, but the hollywood film award show he presented at wasn’t amber’s event. surely in the 14 years he was with vanessa he had movies that ‘bombed’ but maybe because he was never a box office success until pirates his ‘bombs’ were to be expected and therefore not as huge and public. his whole ‘I don’t fucking care’ about his box office flops is surely a lie considering he can’t go out while sober anymore. maybe he’s unhappy with amber? nothing makes you feel old than marrying someone 30 years younger than you. depp doesn’t’ want to grow old so he married young? he’s a serial monogamist, maybe he’s realizing he made a mistake with her? she’ll dump him soon, I can’t imagine this is anything more than a career boost for her but I never expected it would turn into him bringing down her career. although we are talking about her so maybe good press is better than none? she doesn’t have much of a presence does she?
