Here are some fashion photos from last night’s Moet British Independent Film Awards. In years past, this show has been pretty well-attended, but last night was… eh, kind of blah. Tom Hiddleston was nominated and he didn’t show up (he was filming Kong: Skull Island, I’m assuming). Tom Hardy was nominated and he won, but he didn’t even bother coming out. There were some half decent fashion photos though, so let’s get to it.
Carey Mulligan easily won my Worst-Dressed Award for the night. I actually like Carey’s quirky style because even when her gowns are bad, they’re still interesting. That’s how I feel about this Gucci gown – it’s so obviously hideous and terrible, but I kind of like her more for wearing it like it’s an amazing piece.
I LOVE Saoirse Ronan. I can’t wait to see Brooklyn. I think Saoirse is actually going to be a major Best Actress contender this year, and she took home the Best Actress prize at this event. Her sparkly cocktail dress is Burberry and it’s perfect! Honk if you want me to do more coverage of Saoirse!
Marion Cotillard in Dior. See… why doesn’t Jennifer Lawrence try out one of these sleeker Dior looks? This would look fantastic on J-Law. It looks good on Marion too, of course, although I think her hair is struggling a little bit.
I don’t have the ID on Helena Bonham Carter’s dress. I would actually be sort of shocked if this was a new piece, considering it looks like something that has been hanging in her closet for years. I mean… she’s HBC. She’s beautiful.
Remember when Agyness Deyn was a thing? She was the It Model a while back. Like, she was the Cara Delevingne of 2007. Now she’s an actress. Her dress is custom Giles Deacon. The dress is okay, but the dominatrix shoes do not go with it.
Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) in Christopher Kane. I love this!

I don’t hate her dress at all. But then again, I always tend to like the ones people on here dislike. The quirky stuff is interesting. I can only fawn over so many basic black dresses, the same old silhouettes over and over again.
Agreed. I really like it and it fits her beautifully.
+2
I love Carey’s dress too. Fits like a glove and looks unique.
+3
It’s quirky but she absolutely pulls it off and I love the silhouette.
I love the illusion created by the square shapes, almost like she’s a skyscraper with major girders.
I love what Alessandro Michele has been doing at Gucci.

That dress stands out in all the best ways for me. And she wears it so well.
I don’t like her outfit, but she seems comfortable with herself which can go a long way.
Yep, I like it too. Carey’s dress is lovely in a more restrained way than what we usually see on the red carpet.
Lady Edith for the win! Stunning 😀 and yes, HONK!
Basically a copy of your comment 😀
Lady Edith looks awesome and doesn’t get nearly enough love. Also, I don’t know if the Downton Abbey finale has aired in the States yet, but HOLY SH*T Mary is awful.
And HONK for more Saoirse!
None of DA season six has aired here. We don’t get it until January
@Amelia Thank god, I thought I was the only one. “Lady” Mary is a whiney, spoiled, entitled b!tch! I had to stop watching because I couldn’t take it any more. Edith is looked down upon and the youngest (Sophia? can’t remember the name) is killed off, but Mary is still around? NOPE! I feel bad because they try to make Edith “ugly”, but Laura Carmichael is so pretty here.
Yeah, Lady Edith nailed it.
I find Carey so beautiful and her style is usually interesting, but this one is ugly.
Carey’s dress just triggered a migraine. I wouldn’t put out a fire with that dress.
Lol. I looked at it and was like “who in their right mind would think that’s the way to go?”
Lol yes!
And I ike her. And her risks. They just don’t often pay off.
Agyness’s dress is the worst simply because of the stritching puckering on the fabric.. I hate that.
Most of these dresses are a bit off. Even Marion’s looks like something from the Dallas 80’s. Why is HBC showing us her granny panties?
I don’t look at Carey’s dress and go “Ooh, amazing”, but it’s visually different and interesting and I would rather look at it than the 1000+ dresses that are sheer gauze over granny panties.
This is true. Almost anything is an improvement over the pantyhose ice capade dresses.
I really like Carey’s dress. It’s interesting. Awards seasons are long and it’s boring to wear the same gown over and over again.
HBC! Love her.
I hate Carey’s dress but she looks so cute when she smiles. Someone on her team must have told her to stop looking sad on the red carpet. I love her though…she is def. one of my favorite young actresses right now.
Honking for Saoirse. She is wonderful in Brooklyn
Totally agree. I LOVE Saoirse Ronan, too.
I saw Brooklyn too, but the film was ok, I think it is over-hyped.
Yeah, I love Saoirse, and she was good in it, but Brooklyn as a movie was fine, but nothing special.
Marion looks sublime – the back of her dress was fabulous, with an opening and a train in a lighter fabric. I agree, she had airplane hair a bit but her makeup was flawless. Carey is lovely but this dress is the worst, it’s making my head spin. HBC better than usual, Saoirse – lovely girl, not such a great dress. Julie Walters looked great too.
Carey Mulligan be like: I saw it hanging in a window and just knew I had to have it. Actually, you could say that about all of them. And yes, I know the reference dates me.
Her dress is hideous but Carey is seriously breathtakingly beautiful. Very classic
I LOVE Carey’s dress! She totally pulls it off. And I like her hair so much better now than when it was short.
Honk! for Saoirse!
Honk!
I just love Saorise! Phenomal actress and she looks pretty! Is she just really private or under the radar?! I never see much about her!
Carey looks more comfortable since she had her child. She used to be aloof ala Rooney Mara. Good for her! God, I love Marion’s look, hair and all.
More Saoirse please!
Honk!
Honk raise to the power infinity!!!
Love love love Saoirse!
Lady Edith looks lovely! Carey is very beautiful, especially when she smiles
Carey is another actress I find utterly boring and who always looks ready to cry which I find annoying but I’d love to hear more about Saorise.
Honk, honk for Saoirse.
Heinous dress on Mulligan, I liked Agyness Deyn’s dress, and only hers. I saw “Brooklyn” this weekend and cried several times. Ronan was incredible – her eyes and face are transparent, you see everything that’s going on inside her, a really lovely and wonderful performance in a touching film, I hope she comes in for more awards for it.
Mulligan’s dress would have been great without all the slapdash crap pasted all over it. It looks like the inside of an unhinged mind. Actually, her facial expression in the second photograph pretty much says it all.
“HONK” 🙂
Carey is such a pretty woman with a natural, lovely smile. That Lady Edith dress on her, now THAT would be smashing. Her’s I find boring, it doesn’t bring out her beauty.
Laura Carmichael is actually really attractive isn’t she? I actually think Carey looks nice and the outfit is interesting. Marion does not age and does that chic Paris vibe so well.
HBC will always be a favorite of mine!
I just want to drink gin and tonics with Lady Edith and HBC. HBC’s red carpet face is everything, and she actually looks really put together (for her, seriously she can do no wrong in my book though). Agree Marion’s dress would look great on someone a bit more statuesque like J.Law, it is dwarfing her a bit. I can’t with Carey’s dress, and I often like ugly/cute prints but it takes the biscuit!
