Bella Thorne isn’t outing ‘mean girl’ from billionaire family, gives more hints

Celebrities Appear On 'The Today Show'
Last month, actress Belle Thorne covered Seventeen magazine. In the accompanying interview, she revealed that she was dealing with a Hollywood “mean girl.” Although she never gave a name, she hinted that “she’s been a billionaire since she was very little, and she’s never had to work for anything in her life.”

Speculation after the interview had readers guessing everyone from Elizabeth Olsen to Ariana Grande and Kylie and Kendall Jenner. The 18-year-old actress, coming to a theater near you in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, clarified her comments on HuffPost Live on Wednesday. She made it a point to tell the interviewer, “It’s not I hate her because she’s a billionaire. I don’t like her because she is a billionaire and makes sure everyone knows that she is, which is like, I didn’t grow up with money or anything like that. And even if I did, I’m not very much like that.” She went on to say, “If somebody wasn’t flaunting it in a mean way to make other people feel bad about themselves, then I would not mind it. It’s when people do it in certain types of ways that make you not appreciate them as much.”

It seems the leading suspect (which many of our commenters pointed out) is 20-year-old model and actress Nicola Peltz. Her father, Nelson, is a billionaire activist investor. The Peltz family lives in a lavish estate in Bedford, New York and they also have an estate in Florida. Back in 2009, the family was exposed for being tyrants to their domestic staff, with (whom we assume could be) Nicola threatening to have maids fired if they didn’t do her bidding. Nicola, who recently made the cover of the French fashion magazine Jalouse, also co-starred along with Bella’s beau, Gregg Sulkin, in the unwatchable 2014 indie film Affluenza. It was so unwatchable I couldn’t even get through the trailer. If it is Nicola, we haven’t gotten any clues from her Instagram (only a lot of duck face selfies) – and her emoji-filled Twitter feed doesn’t offer any supporting information either.

I’m glad that Bella is doing her part to try to stop bullying (she also recently wrote a book, Autumn Falls, despite the fact that she has dyslexia and has been open about her struggles with the disorder.) In Wednesday’s interview, she said of bullying, “It’s not necessarily about one person…there’s always a mean girl in school – it’s in Hollywood too. Our life is not so overly glamorous. It’s exactly what you’re going through, but there’s photos taken of it.”

Good for her! I have a zero tolerance policy for rude, mean and entitled behavior. I just got done reading the article from a different website. My original thought was that this was about Taylor. Now I think it’s about Nicola Peltz.

    • antipodean says:

I have too much time on my hands at the moment (not the usual case), so I’ll bite. Could it be those insufferably entitled Hadid girls. They seem to be the very definition of famous for being famous.

  2. Ifusayso says:

I still think it’s Kylie. She’s the WORST.

    • word says:

Kylie Jenner? She doesn’t come from a Billionaire family.

    • Annie says:

She’s friends with Kylie. It’s not Kylie. And for everything the Kardashians are known for, being rude to staff members is not one of them. So at least they have that.

      • Ctkat1 says:

Yeah, the Kardashians are useless, but they’ve never had a single story about them being rude to staff, domestic or retail. I remember several years ago thinking that if it was between Kim or Paris Hilton (those were the options circa 2007/2008ish), at least Kim wasn’t a rude, racist a**hole.

While I give her a big shout-out for standing up to the mean girls and bullies, please don’t say Bella ‘wrote’ a book. A ghostwriter wrote Autumn Falls for her. Bella’s name went on the cover to sell the book. It’s a common practice in the publishing world, but still I hate it when a ghostwriter doesn’t get credit for the great portion of the writing.

    • Jay says:

I’m so freaking sick of these dumb little girls getting credit for writing books. (Ok, to be fair, she may be perfectly intelligent. But still)

  4. INeedANap says:

This sounds like a whole lot of teenage dramz but I think she has the germ of a good idea. I am interested in seeing her advocacy develop as she gets a little older.

Which is why I feel bad asking, but it’s been driving me nuts: those lips, are they fake? I mean, she looks great, but that upper lip doesn’t look real.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Nope. There is a beuty blog called Beauty Editor and they do celebrity before/after profiles. They did her and she had a lot of work done.

  5. Tiffany says:

You know, maybe it is Peltz. Because Daddy cutting a big check is the only reason she got a part on the awesome Bates Motel. No way when she was done auditioning, they thought she was the next Meryl.

  6. Elle says:

    I like her

  7. Meiko777 says:

I don’t know, I still think it’s Kendall Jenner. She just doesn’t seem like a nice, down-to-earth person.

  8. Talie says:

Nicola is gorgeous, but she does look mean. I’m surprised she hasn’t scooped up any mean girl roles in high school movies.

  9. Bridget says:

I appreciate Bella’s hustle, but it’s weirding me out with how much this girl has changed her face over such a short time.

  10. Val says:

She’s gorgeous and her hair is divine!

  11. Josefina says:

Well, I got mixed feelings about this. The fact she doesn’t just reveal who she is makes me think this is for attention (I HATE blind items), but on the other hand… if she did reveal her name, that girl would be flooded in death threats by this noon. The internet is a truly ugly place. So she’d be crusading against bullying by just provoking more of it.

Here’s a guess surprinsingly no one has pointed out: Emma Roberts?

    • Annie says:

Billionaire family. Billionaire is the clue here. Not just any famous family. This girl likes to remind people that her family is billionaire. Which strikes out the Jenner girls (not billionaires, and friends with Bella), and every other celebrity family.

      • Josefina says:

I don’t think she means “billionaire” that literally, though. I’m guessing anyone with a lot of money would do it. It’d be weird if she actually went on and verified said family was worth exactly over a billion dollars.

    • Courtney says:

I definitely agree that Emma is probably awful in real life…. YouTube her on the tv show punk’d… Is she a billionaire? Sure her family has money but I don’t think her dad is that well off. Her aunt maybe, but not her.

    • Marianne says:

Or she would be sued by the family for defamation.

  12. ADC says:

On the one hand, let’s not be naïve, she is totally using this blind to draw attention to herself. On the other hand, kudos to her for such an AMAZING piece of gossip. It has to be this Nicola Peltz girl, also known as the girl who completely flubbed the otherwise wonderful Katara in The Last Airbender movie. And there is some juicy gossip regarding that trainwreck of a movie: Reliable rumours have it that Peltz got that role through his father pulling strings (he is a high-risk assets investor, i.e. what films are) in what was one of many ways studio execs messed with the movie, while Shyamalan actually had a good script and passion for the project when it started.

Whatever, the real-deal actresses like Saoirse Ronan or Brie Larson always end up prevailing over these people, including Ms. Thorne here.

  13. CornyBlue says:

She looks like the girl Liam Hemsworth was hooking up with for a hot moment.

  14. princessbuttercup says:

I would actually love to see what Bella could do without the over-processed Disney tartlet factory that is currently guiding her career. I understand why she’d be drawn to it and sign up for it, especially since there’s a lot of money in making yourself into that kind of “brand” while you’re young and she had some serious money struggles, but the whole teen show + crappy pop music + ghostwritten book + selfie-filled Instagram can really limit your options as you get older. How long til she has a cheesy perfume out?

  15. iLoveMyPug says:

I mean, this is tacky as hell

  16. LAK says:

She shouldn’t give oxygen to the mean girls. Kharma tends to sort them out.

  17. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Childish. Tell me who it is or don’t bring it up.

  18. kimbers says:

So glad nicola is rich bc that’s really all she has going for her and we all need one thing to be going our way
