Sandra Bullock was one of the big “gets” at the People’s Choice Awards and so they sat her in the front row next to Vin Diesel and Judd Apatow. That should tell you how well attended this was. Sandra won the Favorite Movie Actress award. She gave a really sweet speech honoring the other women who were nominated, and said “they all break molds, push that glass ceiling up, and they’re all mamas. We’re all working mamas… and we get to do what we do because of you.” She also told a nice story about her son Louis, and how she explained to him that she had to go and get an award when he asked her where she was going. Louis argued that he should also get an award because he’s in “videos 2015,” meaning the videos Sandra shoots of him on her phone. It was cute!

Sandra was in this red crocheted Monique Lhuillier gown. The color really flattered her but the pattern was very doily and it had a slightly asymmetric (or just messy) flamenco-like hem. Not a cute dress overall, but it’s just the People’s Choice Awards. Still, Sandra knows where her bread is buttered.

Here’s Sandra’s costar and friend, Melissa McCarthy, who presented Ellen Degeneres with the Favorite Humanitarian award and won for Comedic Movie Actress. She was in a loose pink top paired with sequin black pants of her own design. I really like her pants but that top isn’t my favorite. I think it’s the sleeves, which are just too puffy. It did look nice in motion and was like a short dress paired with pants. (I’m sorry Melissa is making that face! This is the best full photo I could find and her expression cracks me up.)

I’m including some other random people at the end whom I like. Here’s Betsy Brandt, who is doing well post Breaking Bad. Betsy, who presented last night, is wearing Alice + Olivia. It’s kind of a typical a-line dress but the sequin pattern is too busy, maybe it should just be in one section of the dress instead of all over. She has great hair and makeup, I like how they emphasized her lips and kept her eye makeup understated. Betsy currently stars on the CBS comedy “Life in Pieces.”

Meghan Trainor, who won for favorite album, was in Balmain. I swear we’ve seen this dress on her before. Maybe Balmain is just so recognizable that the dress seems familiar. It’s pretty cool for an awards ceremony and I like the length and fit. Her eye makeup makes her look goofy though – spider eyes!

Kat Graham really brought it in David Koma. This dress is incredible and flatters her so well. I love the thick leather lines on the strapless bodice and the overlapping diamond pattern in stripes across the skirt. Maybe this could do without the sheer panel at the bottom, but it’s otherwise an impressive contemporary dress. Her styling is so pretty too.

Finally presenter Alison Brie was in this mint colored Cushnie Et Ochs gown with cutout details along the waist. This dress is somewhat forgettable but holy crap her makeup looks incredible. She looks different here than I’m used to seeing her. I was reviewing older event photos and I figured it out – she doesn’t have any mascara on her bottom lashes and it makes a big difference.
