Is Jennifer Garner seeing a sex therapist?

There are cracks in one of Hollywood’s seemingly strong marriages. Star Magazine is reporting that Jennifer Garner is seeking help from a noted sex counselor/therapist named Dr. Holly Hein. Jen apparently “checks in” with Dr. Hein every so often because Ben Affleck is “very insecure” and likes Jen to “play the devoted wife”. Still, the Star report seems to take pains to say that Jen is only going to this sex therapist because she wants her marriage to last. Here’s a question – if they have marriage problems that stem from emotional and behavioral issues, why not a traditional therapist? Why a “sex therapist”? And why is Jen going alone?

Four years into her relationship with Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner is seeing someone else: a sex counselor!

The 37-year-old actress has been spotted several times in recent weeks with noted author and therapist Dr. Holly Hein.

“Jennifer has had some ups and downs with Ben, and she likes to check in with Dr. Hein once in a while,” says a source.

They talk tips on keeping the romance alive and dealing with Ben’s need for attention.

“Ben’s great, but he can be very insecure. He likes Jen to play the devoted wife all the time,” the source explains.

Still, Jen’s more than willing to balance Ben, 36, two kids, a career and counseling. “Jennifer doesn’t want to lose him. She’s in this for the long haul.”

From Star Magazine

I don’t believe the bulk of this. My guess is that someone, somewhere got a picture of Jennifer with Dr. Hein. And Star just made up a little story to go with a picture. Star is just looking to tarnish the image of a couple who is nearly universally liked. I do believe two pieces of the story though: I think Affleck is probably a bit insecure (and he may even have a wandering eye) and I think Garner is definitely “in this for the long haul”. She’s vying to be the next “America’s Sweetheart”, and sweethearts don’t have two divorces.

Note by Celebitchy: Garner was photographed out getting coffee with Hein on 12/30/08 (above) and outside her house on 3/31/09. Maybe they’re just friends.

Oh for pete’s sake, could they have chosen a more normal, boring couple to pick on????

  2. CandyKay says:

Do people generally have sessions with their sex therapists out on the sidewalk?

  3. Linda says:

She has been seeing this therapist from way back when she was getting divorced from Scott Foley (always alone). So at least since 2003. I think by now they are very good friends also. Besides, Why do people think seeing a therapist is a bad thing? Maybe its because you want to work on yourself and isnt that a good thing?

  4. Sara says:

Or maybe she’s already friends with her and seeks advice on how and when to start having sex again after a baby.

There’s nothing wrong with seeking a sex therapist. It shows how committed she is to making her marriage last.

Yes, she can do no wrong in my eyes, why do you ask?

  5. Monica says:

Violet is just an adorable child. She always looks so happy. That in itself should say a lot about the relationship of her parents.

  6. Bellatrix says:

I’m quite certain I saw them photographed together enjoying a friendly coffee/drink together when she was pregnant with Seraphina.

The sex therapy seeking rumors have been going around for some time now regarding Garner, haven’t they?

It seems like a friendly relationship that can come in handy at times… 🙂

It looks like an open session to me.
Just because someone sees a therapist doesnt mean there are marital problems. And if Ben is “needy” he might be the one who needs therapy.

  8. Jazz says:

Maybe she’s researching a movie role?

Nothing wrong with seeking professional help regarding keeping a healthy sexual relationship with one’s spouse, especially after two children. I bet if more women sought the help of such professionals there would be a lot less divorces and cheating. 🙂

And hey, even those of us with raging libidos and tons and tons of “action” under our belt could use some new tricks 😉

  12. lrm says:

OMG;ten bucks she’ll be starring in a new role, playing either a counselor or client of a sex therapist….and these meetings are her method acting props!!!! you know, not ‘too’ method acting for something like this…but a little research on the subject from an expert.

He has always seemed like an addictive personality the way he (used to) drink and gamble. Addictive personalities just take on a new addiction when they lose one – definitely hard to deal with over the long haul.

  14. OXA says:

This is old news and they are just good friends.

  15. judy says:

Gee they stopped beating up Brad and ANgie and are now starting on this couple ?? lol

  16. Ally says:

Didn’t he and J.Lo break up because he cheated on her with a stripper? Maybe he requires extra attention of the tarty, professionally inventive variety. Like most male celebrities, I would imagine.

  17. Ned says:

lol, Jen is trying to portray Ben as an insecure guy.

Sounds like Jen is a bit insecure if she needs (for years now) to pay for friendship and support.
I supposed that her many plastic serguries don’t bode well in the insecurity department either.

Oh, and Ben’s trying to run away from her as much as he can, perhaps have contributed to her insecurity as well.

The solution for a guy not being serious about you, is not to force fatherhood and get pregnant to keep him around.
Nor is it a sex therpiast.
Sometimes, he’s just not that into you.

  18. Brooke says:

Holly Hein is not her friend she is her therapist. Ned how right you are.

  19. claudia says:

    Well said, Ned!

I’m sure Ben couldn’t agree more with you!
