Hannah Davis thinks it’s ‘lame’ when guys try to impress her with material things

Hannah Davis is the cover girl for the newest issue of Maxim. I’m not posting the cover or any of the editorial – you can see the pics here, if you want to know why. Hannah is best known as a bikini model and as “the woman who landed Derek Jeter.” Jeter was easily one of New York’s top bachelors for years, but everything came together for Hannah and Derek when they started dating, and he proposed to her last year. They still haven’t set a wedding date. When Hannah was chatting to Maxim, she said some amazing things about why she’s with Derek Jeter too. Surprisingly, she’s not with him because she’s a beautiful model and he’s a handsome and insanely rich athlete. No, she got with Jeter because of “family.”

Why she ended up with Jeter: “Trying to impress you with material things? I think that’s lame. I wanted someone whose family is a big, important part of their life.”

She likes her privacy too: “I feel like I have to share every other part of my life. It’s that one part that’s a little bit of a mystery to people, but that’s the way we want it. The only way to protect it is not to talk about it.”

She’s not a worrier: “I’m not a worrier. There’s no point. My philosophy is to let everyone else worry.”

[From E! News]

I always love it when people in these kinds of situations try to play it like money, status, beauty and fame have absolutely nothing to do with why they’re attracted to someone. Like, I would marry a rich old guy but I wouldn’t tell everyone it was because he has an excellent sense of humor, or because he was really family-oriented. At least Jerry Hall isn’t trying to convince people that she’s going with Rupert Murdoch because she adores his love of kittens.

  1. Baubles Bangles Beads says:

All I know about Derek Jeter is that he gave the gift that keeps on giving to Jessica Alba and a few others.

I hope she’s happy but I’m not believing her ‘family matters’ speech for some reason.

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

I realize that this is a popular rumor, but I’ve never actually seen ONE single credible source about it. Do you have one? Serious question. Whether they’re celebs or not, spreading rumors about people having STD’s is kinda foul.

  2. Size Does Matter says:

She was the host of Project Runway Junior. Not much going on upstairs.

    • amilu says:

She is SO bad as the host. I quit watching, and it wasn’t because of her. But she has no place as a tv presenter!

  3. GiGi says:

Well, he *is* very close with his family. And he’s also loaded… I’m sure that doesn’t hurt.

  4. Eggland's worst says:

Sounds like someone is trying to set better prenup conditions. By the way, am I the only one who has never found Jeter all that? Maybe it is the Red Sox fan in me, but I have never been a fan of Jeter.

    • lilacflowers says:

She hasn’t actually landed him yet, has she? Other women have made it to the “fiancee” stage with Jeter. As a fellow Red Sox fan, Jeter was always a bit off to me but I respected what he did for his team and baseball in general and I also greatly appreciated that he respected, appreciated, and enjoyed the rivalry and wanted to give Boston a fond farewell at the end. Ran into him a few times when the Yankees were in town and he was always gracious to people.

      • iluvcoffee says:

Derek Jeter has never ever been engaged to anyone. Hannah Davis is the first woman he has asked to marry him. He confirmed their engagement on his website calling her his fiancee. He has NEVER asked anyone to marry him. He has stated over and over again, that he was not planning to marry anyone while still playing baseball because according to him he was too selfish. He made it clear during his retirement announcement he was going to settle down and get married and start a family. Hannah Davis was his girlfriend at the time of his retirement announcement. You can google this information because what you have stated isn’t true.

    • Lucky says:

I agree with you. I’m a crazy, die-hard Mets fan so I’m not the best judge of Jeter 😜

    • Kitten says:

Sox fan here and I actually kind of like Jeter.
      *runs and hides*

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Am I really naive for believing she could be telling the truth? Or a version of it? A woman with her beauty is probably pursued by men who are wealthy and have one kind of social status or another. She probably doesn’t meet or get asked out by a lot of soul searching poets. So she narrows down the field in her own way – she wants a decent guy to whom family is a priority. The wealth and status are probably givens to her.

    • Sayanniething says:

      +1. That’s just what I was thinking!

    • Kitten says:

You’re not alone in your thinking, gnatty. Plus it’s not like Jeter is some geriatric billionaire. He’s still relatively young, fit, and objectively good-looking. I don’t necessarily see this as a money-grab on her part.

      • Locke Lamora says:

Objectively good looking? Seriously? I don’t find her all that stunning either, but if we’re going just by looks, she way, way out of his league.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think he’s cute. And beautiful women often fall in love with men who aren’t as stunning as they are, don’t you think?

      • Locke Lamora says:

Of course they do, I just don’t find him, as Kitten said, objectively good looking at all, that’s all I was saying.

Honestly, I don’t think she would be dating him if he wasn’t as rich, nor would he date her if she wasn’t as beautiful. They love eachother now, but I don’t think the initial dating would happen if one of them was an average joe.

I also just googled them, and she’s 25 (looks older) and he’s 41. So yuck.

    • Naddie says:

Yeah, I think you’re naive. Her eyes are probably shut for men without any social status. But in her defense, I do believe that wealthy, powerful men are majority in places where she goes.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That’s what I mean. She probably doesn’t meet many men who aren’t somewhat affluent. But I could still be naive.

    • iluvcoffee says:

She is also family oriented and very close to her family. it was reported that he asked her parents for her hand in marriage months before he asked her to marry him. I think both are old fashion and mostly do a lot of things under the radar. There are many candid pictures fans have taken of them that doesn’t make the tabloids or paparazzi shots of them at their home in Tampa.

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

+1. I don’t see a reason to try to read between the lines here or to not take what she says at face value. As you said, she’s gorgeous and can have any man she wants. Clearly there is something about Jeter that sets him apart.

    • Penelope says:

      ^^^^THIS. GNAT nails it.

  6. vauvert says:

She is a model marrying an athlete. The most unique, unheard of romance of our times. Yawn. She is not marrying him for money and fame, he is not marrying her because she looks like that in a red bandage. The poor darlings just couldn’t find someone else with family values. I know…

  7. Birdix says:

There’s such a similarity in their eyebrows, noses and long foreheads.

  8. Bettyrose says:

Pictures of Derek Jeter? Yes, please.

  9. lilacflowers says:

As I pointed out above, other women have made it to “fiancee” status with Jeter. She isn’t the first. There is no date set. She may not be the last.

    • iluvcoffee says:

Again with all due respect.. Derek Jeter has never ever been engaged to anyone. Hannah Davis is the first woman he has asked to marry him. He confirmed their engagement on his website “the players tribune” calling her his fiancee. He has NEVER asked anyone to marry him. Below is his announcement confirming his engagement last November in which he has never done.

“I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner. He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée, whose family had Mastiffs growing up,” Jeter, 41, wrote on Tuesday, Nov. 3. “I’ve never owned a pet in my life.”

He has stated over and over again, that he was not planning to marry anyone while still playing baseball because according to him he was too selfish. He made it clear during his retirement announcement he was going to settle down and get married and start a family. Hannah Davis was his girlfriend at the time of his retirement announcement.

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

@lilacflowers, yeah you’re being pretty insistent about it but you’re wrong. Where are you getting your information from? Because it has been common knowledge that Jeter has never been engaged and never planned to be until after retirement. He has, however, had quite a few girlfriends. Rumored swirled that he was engaged to Minka Kelly as they were on and off for a while but that wasn’t true.

  10. Jayna says:

I don’t find Jeter attractive and I find him boring.

  11. CornyBlue says:

I have no idea who either are but I absolutely loathe when a guy buys me something. Obviously a lot of guys are not getting me a lot of things all the time and i doubt anyone is trying to impress me but if anyone buys me something as much as a Tube ticket I feel so uncomfortable.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

I appreciate your pov. An old boyfriend gave me an expensive watch I still wear and whenever I get compliments on it I give him all the credit. I’m a gift giver myself, and so are my best friends…I think that it depends on the situation.

    • Kitten says:

I’m somewhere in-between you two. I like white chocolate and wild flowers as an occasional romantic gesture but I would feel uncomfortable getting showered with expensive gifts all the time. Lucky for me, like Cornyblue, that ain’t happening lol.

      • BengalCat2000 says:

I’m meeting up with a guy next week who’s visiting America just to see me (he’s British) and I do feel a little funny about it. Then I remind myself that’s he’s a successful adult who made his choice without my provocation. I guess I see it as ok as long as I’m not manipulating a person to get what I want…does that make sense? I hope I’m not being a horrible person…!

      • vauvert says:

I love gifts, both to give and receive. If it’s not a financial hardship for either party, why not? (I grew up in a culture that encourages it though, maybe that has something to do with it.)

    • KiddVicious says:

I have a hard time with guys buying me things, too. I’m fiercely independent so I’m sure that has something to do with it. I have no problem buying things for guys, though.

I had no idea who the two were in the picture until I started reading, I thought the guy looked creepy. Then I read who it was and started laughing. I always did think Jeter had a bit of creep surrounding him.

    • platypus says:

I don’t like giving or receiving gifts either, it gives me loads of anxiety and I don’t really see the point, to be honest. Gifts from guys always makes me wonder what I did to “deserve” it, what they expect in return, or what they’re compensating for (yes, I’m living in a sad world). And the general social obligation to be grateful for something I never asked for or even outright said I didn’t want is just uncomfortable in itself.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I’m uncomfortable with anyone buying me anything, unless it’s close family or for birthdays, and even then if the gift is expenisve I feel uncomfortable.

I also have no idea who these people are and I find neither of them attractive.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

*Whispers with embarassment* I love it when my husband buys me something, especially if it’s some he knows I would like. Once I was sick, and he brought me an English Garden Magazine with foxgloves on the front. It made me feel so loved because that’s not something he would ever even notice for himself, but he listens to me so he knows I would like it. P.S. I like jewelry, too. 😔

      • Kristen820 says:

I’m with you, GNAT. My last boyfriend would occasionally surprise me with little gifts that were incredibly thoughtful. Like when he got his hair cut and asked the stylist for a recommendation for a product to help keep my haircolor from fading so fast (the upkeep on reds is a b**ch). Or when he decided I needed a new bedspread and spent a significant amount of time researching what would not only be warm and comfortable, but which material would be least likely to trigger my allergies. I wasn’t impressed with him buying me gifts so much as the amount of thought and consideration that went into choosing them…

      • CornyBlue says:

aww well husband and boyfriends are obviously OK. I meant more random friends. My boyfriend buys me stuff too.

  12. may23 says:

I don’t know who these people are but she’s stunning! That’s all I have to say.

  13. Fiorella says:

She’s insanely pretty and gorgeous hair skin brows eyes… That skin can only come from a tanning bed right ? 😕

  14. KiddVicious says:

She is very pretty. Her dress was making me laugh, though. While it looks amazing on her, on me the part covering her boob that goes over the shoulder would be fine, the other boob would be around my elbow. Probably not the look the designer was going for.

  15. NeoCleo says:

They look like brother and sister.

  16. Mar says:

Derek Jeter always seemed like a total jerk to me.
