Prince Harry talks to GMA about his mum, the Invictus Games & hugs

Today feels so weird to me, and this Prince Harry video is not helping with my dream-state existence. Like, I’ve always liked Harry. I’ve adored him, frankly. I think he’s sexy and silly and fun, and I think he’s much better princeling than his brother, Work-Shy Will. But this video sort of takes it next-level. He’s SO LOVELY. Harry sat down with Robin Roberts at Good Morning America for an interview to support the Invictus Games this May in Orlando. The games are Harry’s baby – he was inspired by the American Warrior Games, and he took that idea and expounded on it to form the Invictus Games. And just FYI – he has done and continues to do a ton of work to get the Invictus Games going, and very little of that work appears on the Court Circular (the official record of royal events). Anyway, enough talking, here’s the video:

His voice sounds scratchy, like he’s almost about to cry during certain moments, especially when he talks about his mother. The interview was conducted in Kensington Palace, in what was his mother’s sitting room. He tells Robin:

“This used to be our mum’s sitting room, so she had a study through there with her desk where she used to listen to all sort of her crazy music. It took a little bit of getting used to, not that we ever forget. We think about her every day… I hope she’s looking down with tears in her eyes, being incredibly proud of what we’ve established, I suppose. I’m sure she’s longing for me to have kids so she can be a grandmother again, but I hope that, once again, everything we do privately and officially, that it makes her proud. I think losing your mother at such a young age, does end up shaping your life, massively. Of course it does. And now I find myself trying to be there and give advice to other people who are in similar positions…[we] do everything we can to make sure that she’s never forgotten and carry on all of the special gifts, as such, that she had and that she portrayed when she was alive. I hope that a lot of my mother’s talents are shown in a lot of the work that I do.”

Harry also says he can’t wait to have kids, and he hopes he’s the “fun uncle” to his niece and nephew. He also says that like his mother, he prefers to greet people with hugs rather than handshakes. This was a really good interview!

    He’s a total doll, a total mensch. I love
    him!

Oh, hell…now I’m going to cry. I loved Diana. But it does make me proud (like an Auntie) that Harry is doing so well and seems to be the son that more closely resembles Diana’s spirit.

He is his mother’s son, exactly who she raised him to be. He wants to make the world a better place, for altruistic reasons, and to make his mother proud. He honors her by carrying on her charitable work, and that is just so lovely and heartbreaking and human and NORMAL. Diana would be so, so proud of him. William, on the other hand – he’s not even a mini Charles, who at least wasn’t work-shy. He’s just a do-nothing. His parents both had good qualities – Charles, the work ethic and loyalty to his obligations, Diana the charitable heart – and he got neither.

I haven’t watched this one yet (I’m about to!), but the one yesterday when he was talking about the Invictus Games and the wounded veterans got me all misty. THAT is what passion for what you do looks like!

ETA: Just watched it; still like yesterday’s better, but he’s a natural.

    • anne_000 says:

Yes, yesterday’s segment was much more informative of his time in the military and with the Invictus Games.

I notice that when he talks about his father and grandmother, he mentions that he goes to them to get advice and help for his work. I also notice that when William talks about them, he never says this same thing.

It seems as if William wants to bring justice to his mother’s name, and father’s actions in the marriage – hence the ditching of the Duchy, and other royal tradition.

I hope that he learns the power of forgiveness in his life.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Prince Harry gives me hope for humanity. And I love that he is keeping his mother’s memory alive.

He’s a precious sweet ginger baby who I also want to do very naughty things with/to…aka he’s perfection.

I adore him, and extra swoon on the clean shaven look they flashed during this video. I can’t abide beards, even on you Prince Harry.

  10. Green Is Good says:

    May 8th. I’m in.

  11. H says:

Love Harry. For me, he’s the royal to watch to carry on Diana’s legacy of charitable works, not William.

  12. kri says:

    I love the Ginger Prince.

  13. COSquared says:

I’m sure Bill must be seething at the reactions for his interview vs reactions to Harry’s interview. These interviews single-handedly show how tone deaf Bill is.

  14. HK9 says:

It’s wonderful to see Harry at ease supporting a charity he really cares about. He makes it look effortless, which really means he put the time and effort into preparing for the interview and into supporting the charity itself. I hope Will and Kate can learn from this because the bad press won’t let up until they put some effort into the charities they support.

  15. Anaya says:

Nothing sexier than a passionate, focused man. Yes, Harry, I’m sure your mum is so proud of you!😊He’s the great hope for the BRF’s future. Now I want a #HarryHug !!!!❤️

  16. lower-case deb says:

    wow Harry!
his words shows his heart more than i can imagine…
Harry: “our mom”, “our work”, “what we do”, “we try to do what we can”, we we us we our.
    by contrast:
William: me me me me NEIGHHHH me me me like Violet Beauregard.

how lovely of him to so this. and to shed light also on the psychological injuries, the unseen ones.

William might be King of England one day,
but Harry will inherit his mother’s title of Prince of Hearts.

okay this is going to be long, but i need to get it out of my chest 🙂

i know that dating and marriage is perhaps too far out in the horizon for him, but hope he finds someone who will complement him in his work and drive. i think he really have this capacity for great compassion.

a lot of people say he is not very intelligent book-wise/school-wise, but i would argue that his emotional quotient is quite high.

the GMA presenters from yesterday said: “we watched him grow up… yeah he really has grown up”.
this work, with Invictus, Sentebale, and various other charities show those people who have eyes and ears and can see and hear that he has indeed grown up, and that is why William’s Throw-Harry-Under-The-Bus strategy no longer works.

do you think he has matured, that he has the ability to Learn and not repeat the same mistakes, unlike his brother and sister in law… no offensive costume fauxpas, not even backsliding to recreational drugs like he was a teenager… that there won’t be any more public Vegas…

who now would believe that Harry is forced to accompany William to events, when W skips off duties every so often?

who now would believe that Harry needs Kateherine to teach him public speaking when he speaks so eloquently, maturely and respectfully, while she can’t go through a simple greeting on the pulpit without giggling and hand in her hair?

i suspect, Harry will be the Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, of his generation. a dependable go-to-royal.

  17. mytake says:

It’ll be interesting to see how history unfolds. Harry seems much better suited for the job of King. Primarily because it is a PR position — that’s it. I mean, I’m as skeptical as they come, and I can’t help but believe that Harry is actually a good guy.

  18. hogtowngooner says:

He’s so easy-going and comfortable around the cameras and reporters. He seems a genuine guy. Will and Kate should take notes instead of trying to throw him under the bus (but I guess that would involve working!)

Also, he announced yesterday that the Invictus Games are being held in Toronto in 2017, so he’ll be on this side of the pond more.
