Are ‘GoT’ producers asking Kit Harington to lie, or is he just doing it for fun?

Kit Harington has lied to the press so many times that at this point, I just think he should stop giving interviews. Just go dark for a month around the advanced press for Game of Thrones season 6. Because I’m exhausted with his lies. He’s not even doing it with a wink and a nudge. He’s not even being playful, or deflecting to the idea that HBO wants him to keep a secret. He’s just blatantly lying, in interview after interview.

Kit Harington is continuing to talk about his role, or lack thereof, in the new season of Game of Thrones—but is he just trying to throw fans off the scent? Reasserting that he will only be seen as a dead body in the sixth season, after his character Jon Snow was stabbed to death by his Night’s Watch comrades at the end of Season 5, Harington told The Sunday Times Culture magazine: “I had to be a dead body in Northern Ireland. You can’t just forget that he’s actually dead. I had to be a dead body. So there was a certain amount of filming that had to be done.”

The 29-year-old star then joked: “I’m bloody good at playing a dead body. It was some of my best work.”

As for the seemingly endless speculation that we haven’t seen the last of Jon Snow alive, Harington concluded: “I’ve finished Thrones, I have, I’ve died.”

[From Newsweek]

It’s the “I’ve finished Thrones” part that bugs me the most. As I’ve said before (SPOILERS if you’re really buying Kit’s lies), Kit was seen filming extensively around the Winterfell set last year. And no, Jon Snow wasn’t a corpse. He was either a resurrected man or an ice zombie or some combination of the two. And still, I don’t get why HBO is playing it like this – GoT viewers aren’t stupid. Even if we haven’t read the books, we’re invested in these stories and I feel like the lying-game makes it seem like HBO thinks its viewers are stupid. Oh, and Kit still has his f—king Jon Snow hair too. LIAR LIAR NIGHT’S WATCH ON FIRE.

We all know he’s lying, so he needs to just be quiet.
I cannot wait for GOT to come back! I’m so excited.

Kit Harington knows nothing, part 6864358

    Have a seat, Hair.

    One more month!!! HODOR!!!

  4. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Eh, semantics. The old JS exsanguinated, it appears, so his character is JS 2.0, Red Queen version.

  5. Sayrah says:

Methinks he doth protest too much

I was very sad to see Jon Snow lying in a pool of blood, but fear not he will return. I watch the show mainly for my husband’s sake, I much prefer WD….the shows are two different animals, but have have a whole lot of carnage and men doing naughty things to women…..go get them Michonne, different network and show, but you got the power woman! @Kitten: Daryl over Jon.

Probably just wait out the season and watch them on a rainy day when there’s nothing on. I think this show ran it’s course with me personally. I don’t find myself excited for its return and at some point I have to accept I don’t care what happens in the 7 kingdoms anymore.

  8. Celia says:

I wish he was dead – he has the charisma and screen presence of a dried rabbit dropping.

  9. DesertReal says:

I agree. It this point its just annoying.

  10. Caz says:

After the disappointment of season 5 (compared to previous seasons) 6 had seriously better be awesome. Enough with the PR.

  11. Guest says:

I was furious about Robb’s death. Man, I miss him. Snow? Don’t really care about him tbh.

I don’t miss show Robb. By the end he was quite self righteous, almost cocky. More so in the show than the books. They liked the actor and decided to beef up his part on screen. That was a mistake imo; less would have been more with Robb. They also made him marry for love in a hamfisted romance, which made him look stupid, whereas Robb in the book married out of misguided honour after sleeping with a girl when he was upset, which was far more understandable (and a typical Stark thing to do!).

    • mom2two says:

@guest, I gotta agree with you. I liked book and show Robb (though I agree, they could have still had him marry Talisa out of honor and it growing to love like it did with Jeyne in the books). But I have a huge Richard Madden bias and I think not only is he good looking but he’s a good actor with a lot of charisma. Something Harington lacks on screen, which is why it would not have bothered me if TV Jon Snow stayed dead.

However, I cannot fault Kit for his statements about his role on Thrones. He has a play to promote. The Jon Snow question is going to keep coming up. Unfortunately HBO did a crap job of hiding him working on set. When Lennie James from The Walking Dead talked about the lengths the show went to hide him when he returned to film stuff (I guess came back for the episode when Rick and Michonne found Morgan crazy), HBO should have taken a similar tactic with Harington. So Kit has to keep saying, I’m dead when everyone else knows better and can easily find out on the internet he’s been filming for the show and filmed more than just a funeral scene.

Kit’s trying to do semantics. The problem is, he’s not very bright and can’t come up with anything better.

There’s no difference between book-readers and the Unsullied (ie show-only people) at this point when it comes to Jon Snow. You guys know everything we know now. If they’re insulting people by lying, then they’re insulting all of us.

I honestly believe that Kit just isn’t smart enough to come up with convincing responses, so all he can do is repeat ‘Jon Snow died, I played his corpse in season 6’ and then occasionally throw in an actual lie (such as ‘I’m done with Thrones) because he actually thinks it will throw people off the scent.

I know it’s patronising as hell, but bless his poor, empty-headed soul.

  13. msd says:

I may be in the minority here but I can’t criticise him for this. People keep asking him over and over again when they know he’s under an NDA and can’t talk about what happens. And I don’t think he could even say “no comment” because that would be jumped upon as saying he’s coming back. It’s dumb yes, but it’s not his fault.

He’s such a little fellow isn’t he? A very handsome, brooding hobbit.
