Duchess Kate wore buttery Emilia Wickstead for her Bhutan arrival: lovely?

Look very carefully at these photos… I think someone finally convinced the Duchess of Cambridge to add weights to her hems!! These are pics from the Duke and Duchess’s arrival in Bhutan today. For the plane exit (which I’m sure counts as an event for these two), Kate decided to wear an Emilia Wickstead coatdress in a muted butter yellow. The dress costs $169, because of course it does. While it doesn’t look like it was very windy today in Bhutan, I still think that someone got through to Kate and finally, at long last, convinced her to take precautions with her hems. Now if we could only get her to stop slouching.

After the arrival, Will and Kate joined the Dragon King and Queen for a special reception in Thimpu Dzong, and Kate changed into another outfit – you can see the ensemble here. She paired a £340 Paul and Joe blouse – with a built-in cape – with a long, straight skirt that looked somewhat traditional for Bhutan. That was fine, I think. But she paired the ensemble with her nude court shoes and it just looked ridiculous.

Update: here’s video of Kate walking in that Bhutanese inspired outfit.

Forgive my ignorant question, but would it be frowned upon if she wore the same dress all day long for all events? Or is that just not allowed for Royal? Just a curious thought I had during this tour (although I think the yellow dress is nice).

    • Alix says:

Really! Will’s not expected to change togs 10 times a day…

    • Betti says:

She could as there is no protocol – if TQ has several events in one day she wears the same outfit. Only our Duchess Clotheshorse sees fit to show off new clothes by changing every 5 mins.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

Could be wrong, but I think it’s intended to give the impression she is working harder than she actually is. People who don’t follow her closely may see pics of her in all these different outfits and think she’s doing so much work for the BRF, not realizing the pics were snapped only a couple hours apart.

      • SilkyMalice says:

Come on, changing clothes IS hard work!

      • spidey says:

Actually many of the royal family will change clothes for different events on the same day.

I think we have got to the stage where whatever the D of C does it will be wrong on celebitchy

      • aaa says:

Queen Elizabeth changes clothes multiple times in a day especially when she is on tour. I think that she may have even gotten on a train in one outfit and gotten off the train in another.

      • OTHER RENEE says:

Spidey, that level was reached a long time ago. If she didn’t change clothes for an event, she’d be accused of being too lazy to do so.

      • Timbuktu says:

        @spidey
        @OTHER RENEE

Come on! No one “accused” her. The OP had a question, and even apologized for it being possibly ignorant (actually, I had the same question, I also had no idea whether changing every 10 min is her choice or a downright requirement). How much nicer can one ASK without people springing to her defense?

    • Lucrezia says:

I clicked to the link and the skirt was a gift (material woven by a Bhutanese weaver and made up in London to Kate’s specifications).

So … she did have to wear it.

That said, she could’ve skipped the yellow dress and worn the traditional outfit off the plane.

    • PinaColada says:

Well, the Bhutanese King and Queen are also wearing two different outfits in the photos, so it isn’t just her. I do also think like another commentor said- different outfits allow for more separate appearance photos

      • LAK says:

Unless new photos have come out, the Bhutanese Monarchs didn’t change their clothing.

You might be mistaking two different couples. The couple who meet them at the plane are The King’s sister and BIL.

The King and Queen meet WK at the Palace.

To be clear, King and Queen, Kate is wearing long purple skirt.

Sister and husband, Kate is wearing yellow dress.

      • anne_000 says:

Photos above are of the King’s sister.

    • Susie Q says:

If you look at the pictures from the Daily Mail, both the King and Queen of Bhutan changed as well as Kate. I am assuming in this situation there were some protocols or guideline for her to change.

      • LAK says:

The Couple who meet them at the plane are not the King and Queen. They are The King’s sister and her husband.

Further, at the archery, they are hosted by different official who is definitely not the same man who met them at the plane or at the palace. 3rd man is also wearing different attire and no royal colours.

William and Kate in purple skirt photos, meet the King and Queen (different couple) at the Palace, hence the appearance of different clothed Bhutanese royals.

      • Cee says:

That’s not the QC, that’s the King’s sister. Look at their heights and you’ll be able to tell them apart.

      • anne_000 says:

In the photos above, that’s the King’s sister, not the Queen.

      • Jib says:

One might be to sew your long skirt so it doesn’t fly open and you flash another country.?

Kate has now flashed every single country she’s visited. The Queen must be so proud.

    • Lena says:

Depends on the type of events. The same outfit would not work for a very formal occasion during the day, something like playing with kids and a formal evening situation. But she definitely changes more often than needed.

    • Karen says:

Technically they only have to be appropriately dressed. So if they have a charity hospital visit, then a formal reception they wouldn’t wear the same outfit. But if the same dress code applies the Queen doesn’t change outfits. Nor does William. Kate’s known only for her boring clothes, so she gives the people what they want – more boring clothes.

    • birdy says:

She changes multiple times so that she can work less. If she stayed in the same outfit, they would have to be out there doing their job going from engagement to engagement and would have to stay more than 45 mins at each event. Instead they drive back to the hotel to change then drive from the hotel to the next engagement which kills a good chunk of time they don’t have to fake being interested in anyone but themselves.

    • Deedee says:

When Camilla and Charles visited our city, Camilla made five or six stops (she and Charles split up to cover more ground mid-day) and she didn’t change her clothes. She went from speeches, to a visit with senior citizens, to gardening with kids–also without flashing anyone.

  2. Alix says:

Is it me, or has she toned down the eye makeup a bit?

Hope she brought her A-game to Bhutan, Queen Jetsun’s in the house!

    • Locke Lamora says:

I read somewhere that the king of Buthan met Jetsun when she was 7 and he was 17 and told her that he will mary her. Is that true? I’m sure the story goes differently because this just sounds really weird.

On a more superficial note, Jetsun is stunning.

      • LAK says:

That’s the story and they are sticking to it.

It’s as wierd as the story of a 13yr old Queen Elizabeth meeting 18yr old Philip and deciding he was the one for her right then.

      • Liberty says:

@LAK, regarding yoir comment about the Queen and Philip, it makes me think of that funny old Peter Sellers film, The World of Henry Orient! 😉

      • Locke Lamora says:

It’s a bit weirder when the 17 year old is the one saying it.

      • LAK says:

        @Liberty: HA!

        Absolutely.

      • MinnFinn says:

Father of the current king had 4 wives who were all sisters. They could have been ‘Sister Wives of Bhutan’. But their offspring aren’t 1/2 siblings they are 3/4 siblings.

      • notasugarhere says:

Could be more of an arranged marriage, so he might have been making a throwaway comment that she was from a suitable family. Her family is aristocracy and related to royalty. It is said he dated one of her cousins years ago, so he may have been looking at the women in that family as potential queens for years.

His younger brother ended up marrying one of her older sisters. In the past, the king would likely have married all of the sisters in that family as his father did. Instead, King Jigme married one sister and his brother married another.

      • teacakes says:

@Locke Lamora – notasugarhere is right, it was more of a reference to her being from a ‘suitable’ family and possibly a bit of a joke at the time considering their ages.

      • JoyBells says:

The King was actually dating her elder cousin sister for years…close to a decade. The King and she was of similar age too. But when the time came around for the King to get married, the horoscope/fortunes didnt look well and it was said that the country as a whole would suffer if they went ahead with the marriage. Also the Queen Jetsun pema’s family is from an aristocrat family too. Her father is a pilot and they are from old money. The families knew each other and some sort of arranged marriage worked out.
The Ex-gf/Sister is said to be even more beautiful than Jetsun and before the King announced his marriage to Jetsun,it was widely believed that the King would marry her. They were apparntly very much in love. But then sadly didnt work out.
Apparantly the Sister still lives in Thimpu and is a kingergarden teacher there. And not married still (who would dare to marry the King’s ex gf,i guess)

All this source of gossip-my boarding school girlfriends (lol) and i actually believe them because their fathers were all higher ups in the administration like Ministers and diplomats and they socialized in similar circle.

    • Susan says:

I was thinking the same thing, I don’t wince at Closeups like I usually do. Also, her eyebrow intensity has lightened I think, thank goodness! Maybe she is a secret follower of the celebitchy beauty advisors. 😉

      • LAK says:

Her eyebrows lightened after the DM shamed her for them following engagement with Air Cadets.

It’s so strange that they repeatedly write terrible articles shaming her and she ignores them, but one article about her brows, and the next time she was seen in public, and subsequent times, her eyebrows are lighter.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

        @LAK

That speaks directly to what kind of person she is. DM calls her out for skipping traditional events to shop or for showing up a mere 45 minutes for events , and it’s no big thing. No changes necessary! Let them criticize her appearance, though? There’s just no there there with this one.

      • Betti says:

@LAK and Goat: Just proves that she DOES care a LOT about her appearance and that its the only thing that matters to her, hence why the press pick on her about it – they know what gets to her.

      • spidey says:

Is there any actual evidence that she changed things because of an article in the DF?

      • bluhare says:

No, there is not, spidey. The posters are noting that when critical things regarding Kate’s appearance are reported (ie the eyebrows or her grey hair) that she makes changes relatively quickly.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

Yes, as a couple the King and Queen look fabulous in the native dress of Bhutan. Kate didn’t do her homework-this would have been a great opportunity to wear something colorful and festive vs blaaaah butter yellow.
Oh no…is the Dragon King balding?
BTW, Bhutan is on my bucket list….

    • annaloo. says:

      Jetsun Pema!! I WORSHIP HER!!!

  3. Locke Lamora says:

The yellow dress is boring and she wore the variation of it a million times before. Her hair looks really nice.
The cape blouse nad traditional skirt look great, but the nude pumps ruin it.

    • Kate says:

I loved the cape blouse and skirt! I too wish she had worn flats or even a colorful shoe.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Who would put those shoes with that outfit? It’s like she forgot or lost the right shoes and just had to wear those. She’s not a shoe person, is she?

    • ArtHistorian says:

I think both outfits are very nice, the best of the the entire tour so far. However, I simply cannot get over how darn uncomfortable William looks in the arrival photos.

      • Melly says:

William always has that really uncomfortable face when he’s “working”. Both he and Kate seem very uncomfortable and awkward with people who are not their close friends.

    • Magnoliarose says:

Agreed. Not bad until the shoes. I don’t understand who told her it was a good look.

    • Snazzy says:

I loved the cape blouse and skirt – so pretty and appropriate! But like all the others have said, it died when I got to the shoes …

    • notasugarhere says:

At least she wore one old item. Wow, look, so thrifty.

Yellow is the color representing the authority of the King and royal house in Bhutan. Not sure it is appropriate for her to be wearing it.

      • LAK says:

I’m going to presume she was told it would be OK to wear yellow rather than simply choosing to wear it because wiki-images show the royal couple in yellow all the time.

      • notasugarhere says:

LAK, kind of you to assume they they’d seek advice or listen to any advice given. That would be off-script for these two.

      • anne_000 says:

She shouldn’t have worn yellow. From all the coat dresses she already has, she could have brought something that wasn’t yellow.

She probably heard yellow is symbolic of the Bhutanese Royalty, so instead of staying away from it, she figured that since she’s a Royal, she should wear it too to show the Bhutanese her status. Because this is the way she thinks, imo.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I agree, I like the beach waves for her hair, it is a pretty style. And agree, those nude shoes ruin her outfits. I like the cape she wore for archery.

Anyone else notice that Kate wears the exact same style of shoes as the ladies in her entourage? Daily Mail had some pics of them, they wear wedges and nude pumps. So they are the ones influencing her choices, not Carole.

      • Tourmaline says:

I think it might be vice-versa–her entourage mimicking her. For instance Rebecca Deacon often wears similar things to Kate when they are at events together. And also, Kate has carried Longchamp Le Pliage bags in the past and in a picture I think from deplaning in India, Sophie Agnew, Natasha Archer, and Amanda Cook Tucker each were holding at least one Le Pliage.

      • MrsK says:

@Tourmaline, I noticed the Longchamps bags too. But as far as “status” designer bags go, the Le Pliage bags are quite reasonable. The large size is less than $150. Many people in my set have them, they’re sturdy and practical and don’t break the bank.

    • Jib says:

She had to have that skirt made to open in the front though, didn’t she?? She just had to show some leg. Couldn’t help herself.

  4. lilacflowers says:

    Jetsun is stunning.

    • notasugarhere says:

Queen Jetsun is stunning but she isn’t in any of these pictures. The woman in the airport photo isn’t Queen Jetsun, nor is that King Jigme. Not sure who they are, but maybe the king’s brother and the Queen’s sister?

  5. holly says:

That second outfit; the cape, the mismatched long skirt, the nude heels (!)… possibly the worst thing she’s ever worn.

  6. BendyWindy says:

So many questions! Do the Cambridges have to bow and curtsy to the King of Bhutan? Why no pictures if they do? Did Kate and Queen Jetsun have to walk a certain number of paces behind??? I actually really liked the cape and long skirt look. The yellow dress is a horrid color and the fabric is already heavy, even without the weights.

    • The Original Mia says:

They did indeed have to bow & curtesy to the King and Queen.

    • Cee says:

The King and Queen of Bhutan outrank them, so yes. William walks alongside the King because they’re both Royal whereas the Queen and Kate walk behind them as their spouses. But I believe both William and Kate should have walked a bit behind their companions, indicating rank. But that’s nitpicking because this is the XXI century.

  7. Chrissy says:

How is this woman considered a style icon? Well, at least someone clued into the skirt weight issue. It only took 5 years.

    • Cee says:

Because she buys expensive clothes? Her style is bland, but it’s her own. She had better style when she was Waity Katy. And no, I don’t believe TQ or Palace minions tell her what to wear. If they did, her hemlines would be more appropriate and her skirts would not blow up around her every time she stepped out of her Manor/Palace.

    • mp says:

Her skirt apparently did fly up! it’s like a drinking game at this point. Take a shot every time the royal biscuit is in danger of being seen.

      • Melly says:

That’s an irresponsible and dangerous game to play while they are on tour! Alcohol poisoning could be the result! 😉

  8. Maum says:

She nearly flashed with the traditional skirt. She had it made a wraparound and it was flying open- she had topush it down very clumsily and the Fail have put it as their top picture… 🙂

    • LAK says:

She’s not wearing a traditional skirt. She’s wearing a European style wrap skirt made with local fabric, made to resemble the local traditional skirt.

A traditional skirt isn’t wrap around in the way she’s wearing her skirt. It’s a fabric you wrap around your body several times before fastening the final fold on the side.

    • Rachel says:

Is the wrap-a-round style in keeping with the traditional Bhutanese style of the skirt or was it Kate’s own addition? The queen’s sister who met them at the airport didn’t seem to have a wrap-a-round, and while it looked like Queen Jetsun’s might have done, it she didn’t seem to be having any problems with the wind blowing open the flaps to reveal her legs, unlike Kate.

      • LAK says:

        It’s Kate’s own addition.

Think of the traditional skirt as a type of wrap like you wrap a sari, but with less materwra and folds, and no over the shoulder fabric.

You fasten one end to your waist at the side, and wrap it around your body twice before fastening the end to the side.

Due to the double wrapping, you inadvertently end up with an underskirt which is why Jetsam (and the other ladies) look like they are wearing heavy fabrics, and the skirt is in no danger of flying up no matter how strong the winds.

Since Kate’s skirt is a wrap style, without added benefit of double wrapping, her skirt seems thinner and she struggled with windy conditions.

DM is saying it’s made from traditional fabric, so i will speculate that all the ladies are wearing the same, and the difference is the style.

    • Naya says:

I just looked at that article and as usual I’m confused by the fuss. I just wanted to say that the Queen of Bhutan is breathtakingly beautiful in those pics and now I’ll see myself out.

      • Zimmerman says:

Did you guys see Jetsun’s crown? It’s so unique and beautiful. Check it out on the Daily Mail.

      • MrsK says:

@Zimmerman – I did! Just shows to go you how regal a crown can look even if it doesn’t have a single supposedly-precious gem. I’m sure the brocade was embroidered by the most skilled artisans.

  9. Liberty says:

Jetsun is gorgeous. And by the way, Jetsun is my new favorite name. It’s GOThrones good!

    • Naya says:

      Yes, she is stunning.

    • LAK says:

      For a Himalayan Queen…..

The GoT style references just write themselves………😊

    • Erinn says:

Lol – my mind immediately went to “meet George Jetson … his boy Elroy…Jane his wife” but I honestly do like the name.

She is stunning though. And not in a cold, offputting kind of way. She has a spark or something – charisma I suppose.

    • Vava says:

Jetsun is fantastic. It’s refreshing to see someone with serene behavior (unlike Kate).

    • Sharon Lea says:

Yes, and yes! Love the name and she is so poised.

    • Magnoliarose says:

She really is a beauty. Love her name too.

    • bluhare says:

I’m going to spoil the party because I think she looks a bit calculated. She’s got the serene half profile look down, though.

  10. LAK says:

She’s wearing a long wrap skirt made from traditional fabric, NOT a traditional dress skirt. You can see it in other pictures. There is nothing traditional about that skirt beyond the fabric. It’s a beautiful nod to the local traditional dress, but it is as much a traditional skirt as a robe is a kimono.

    • paleokifaru says:

It is a beautiful nod. I don’t know whose idea it was but I find it quite brilliant. One of the most interesting outfits she’s worn.

    • notasugarhere says:

Why is she wearing a long skirt made of light fabric to participate in sport again? Did she read the itinerary?

      • anne_000 says:

        She only reads scientific journals.

The DM has photos of her at the archery event, and yes, she’s showing mid-thigh.

And of course she is. Let’s see, wrap a piece of fabric around her singly, make the flap in front in a windy country, and she’s happy.

  11. MinnFinn says:

The front hem on Kate’s left side does look sloppily pressed with creasing so Tash must have added the weights recently.

I was sure that this Wickstead coat dress was a repeat but they added a belt and pressed in the front pleats. Here’s the original.
    http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1524895.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Kate%20Middleton

    • Olenna says:

I was just getting ready to ask if the yellow dress was new until I saw your comment, Minn. I knew I’d seen it before, so thanks for clearing that up.

    • Vava says:

I recognized that coat dress immediately and cringed. I had hoped she tossed that after the first wearing because it is poorly tailored. She was tempting fate by wearing that type of thing at the airport – hem weights or not. She’s just foolish.

I love the fabric of her new skirt – but the rest of that ensemble is hideous. And her crazy expressions at the archery thing are just so UNREGAL. Honestly, this woman just behaves like an absolute loon sometimes. She doesn’t hold a candle to the glorious Queen Jetsun. I love all the Bhutanese clothing – the men and women all look fantastic. The King and Queen are so classy.

      • MinnFinn says:

The coatdress looks better this time around. The belt hides the wonky waistline seams and the front pleats were pressed correctly. That color is not good on her though.

And I did see the photo of her rollicking laughter at her own bad archery skills. She’s still acting like the funnest girl at her college dance. I suppose nowadays she does it when she’s feeling insecure. It’s twee when she does that in the UK but it looks even worse in this setting in comparison to the serene looking Queen and King.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

If marrying the heir to the British throne and bearing 2 healthy heis is not enough to make her feel secure…

      • Her performance at the archery event was ridiculous. Why does she always have to open that huge mouth and look like a nitwit??? Doesn’t she have any decorum?

      • Jib says:

Bethany, I know from when I was younger and was really uncomfortable and trying to look like I was OK, I used to exaggerate my emotions like that: laugh uproariously, probably with my mouth open, exaggerate facial expressions. All done to show the world how wonderful the event is, and what a great time she is having.

Compare that to Harry or Maxima, who just smile with huge, genuine smiles and talk to people. Sometimes Kate’s got it, like when talking to the children on the floor, but usually she’s doing that, “I’m having the best time, I’m so enthralled!” phony face and body language. I do think it’s just discomfort and insecurity, not that she’s a terrible phony person or anything.

    • Sharon Lea says:

      Good eye MinnFinn!

      • Bella says:

Do tell, what is a “regal” facial expression supposed to look like? I presume some sort of coy half smile with eyes downcast? Sounds utterly artificial to me.

      • Olenna says:

“coy half smile”? That’s certainly not the standard definition of regal. It sounds more like a typical Katie Cambridge smile when she’s in the presence of Sir Ben.

      • Meadow says:

@Bella…..google some pictures of Queen Mary, now that’s what’s called regal.

  12. Rachel says:

Unsure if I’m totally on board with her Bhutanese inspired outfit. The traditional fabric is a nice touch, but I think the open flap approach of the wrap-a-round looks inelegant, especially next to Queen Jetsun, and extra-especially when Kate was trying her hand at the archery. Plus the glimpse of those nude court shoes undermine the entire outfit, where some decorated slippers or sandals would have worked better. Nice thought, just not executed quite right.

  13. Llamas says:

I don’t know, the yellow dress seems a bit short for a more conservative country and I don’t think she should’ve made it a wrap around. She had to hold onto it to keep it from flashing more. Also, has she actually flashed every country she’s been in?

    • Lucrezia says:

Is Bhutan that conservative? I worked with 4 Bhutanese guys and they didn’t seem conservative to me. They were comfortable with having a female manager, which is something I’ve noticed some immigrants initially struggle with. However, it was a biased sample. Bhutan Uni is quite small, and apparently doesn’t offer Masters level degrees, so they were all here in Oz studying or married to women who were here studying. Education and wealth (to afford to study overseas) possibly made them more worldly than the norm.

I did make a faux pas when I tried to pull the “I’m a female, you’re male, YOU kill the cockroach” trick. Hadn’t realised they were all Buddhists … oops! (I rescued cockroach and put it outside. I couldn’t kill it either, not with all of them looking at me.)

      • Anon says:

I thought Bhutan was much more conservative than India. The wedding of the current King and Queen was a big deal because a. it was NOT arranged and b. he kissed her on the cheek in front of the crowd, and public displays fo affection are pretty much not a thing there.

    • Jib says:

I do believe Kate has now flashed every country she’s visited. That’s some legacy she has. 🙂

    • MrsK says:

The King and Queen lived together before marriage, so the country is leapi g into the 21st century whether or not the traditionals like it.

  14. Jh says:

She looks so wierd next to Jetsun in that yellow dress. Her bare legs make her look so childish and inappropriate. It wouldn’t ordinarily seem like a lot of skin but next to 3 other fully clothed people it feels silly

    • Betti says:

I believe the couple that met them at the airport was the Kings sister and her husband. But yes Waity looked out of place and dare i say inappropriately dressed. It was a lovely look thou – one of her better ones on this tour so far.

      • Dena says:

I wonder if W/K were even cognizant or knowledgable enough to know that they were being met by the Queen sister & brother and law.

      • spidey says:

Dena, they would have been very well briefed.

      • notasugarhere says:

They can only be ‘very well briefed’ if they bother to listen to anyone. Lead a horse to water and all that.

      • spidey says:

Be determined to find fault and all that.

      • bluhare says:

I’m with spidey on this one, nas. Of course they’d be told who’d be greeting them!

      • notasugarhere says:

I was speaking in general terms (ex. William admitting he never seen one Bollywood film at the Bollywood event). The prep for these two is never rigorous.

      • Jib says:

Spidey, from what I see you need to be REALLY determined to find things these two do right , cause there isn’t much. From flashing in every country she’s visited, to William telling the Indian actor he’s never seen a Bollywood movie, to acting like a schoolgirl at archery, to wearing his pants WAY too tight, to refusing Indian food, Kate and Will seem to be intentionally trying to make a bad impression. I wish they wouldn’t be so vacuous – I like Harry and Maxima, Mary, Letizia, and Princess Anne, all of whom are serious and useful people. I like Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, husbands of men with official positions, but they are smart women, passionate about causes. I gave Will and Kate both the benefit of the doubt for years, but to whom much is given, much is expected. I hate to see such pampered, spoiled people do nothing to make the world a better place, and then be defended by sycophants who are pretty nasty to those who criticize such lazy, rich and entitled people.

  15. Betti says:

I like the dress for the airplane departure but it could have ended badly for her if a gust of wind came along – it would have been more befitting if it had been pants or a pencil skirt but hey there may have been hem weights used.

Will be interesting to see what her ‘A’ game is against the Queen who is the polar opposite of Waity.

    • Melly says:

I disagree about her wearing pants or a pencil skirt in this instance (virtually every other instance I would agree with you though!). It’s a more conservative country where women wear long dresses, so a pencil skirt (depending on the length) would have shown too much skin and pants would be inappropriate due to not being “feminine”. It would have been more appropriate for her to wear a longer dress that was properly weighted. Like others have said, this would have been a perfect opportunity to wear a bright color/pattern.

  16. Maria says:

Regarding the critique about her shoes, Queen Jetsun is also wearing modern shoes with her outfit, so I do not think it is such a bad choice.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3539164/Welcome-Land-Thunder-Dragon-Duke-Duchess-Cambridge-arrive-Bhutan-ahead-meeting-King-Queen-dubbed-William-Kate-Orient.html

    • Sharon Lea says:

I love Queen Jetsun’s shoes! BTW, King Jigme has awesome boots in those pictures too.

    • artpunk44 says:

I noticed that as well. Although I’m not wild about the basic nude pump, she isn’t out of line to wear heels on this occasion. LOVE the King’s boots though!

    • notasugarhere says:

Have you seen a picture of her wedding shoes? They were a gorgeous blend of modern and traditional.

    • Mrs. Harrison Ford says:

I like that Queen Jetson’s shoes match her outfit and they’re gorgeous on top of it. Duchess Kate’s shoes are just blaaaaaahhhh.

  17. Lainey says:

She’s worn this one before right? In Scotland I think? Still bad. I don’t understand why she just can’t wear a Bhutanese or Indian designers instead of wearing dresses by English designers ‘inspired’ by these countries.

    • notasugarhere says:

It would be more thoughtful if she did that.

    • teacakes says:

she did wear a dress by an Indian designer, to play cricket and visit the Mumbai slums. And for the main event in Bhutan, she’s wearing a skirt made by a Bhutanese designer – the print is gorgeous.

And those are the best things she’s worn through the entire tour.

  18. Krishan says:

This dress was…ok. for Kate. But the silhouette is always the same. So it ends up looking boring in addition to Kate just lacking the charisma and pizzazz to work this outfit to its max potential.

  19. cindyp says:

She really needs a stylist. That hair flying around is ridiculous. And those earrings don’t go with the outfit, almost touching the collar. She’s a mess

    • Melly says:

I’m of the opinion that when she is working she should always wear her hair up. There are so many different updos she could try that are fabulous and professional!

    • Betti says:

I agree she needs a professional stylist but her hair wasn’t that bad, it went with the outfit. She really does suit her hair away from her face.

  20. Anon says:

I really like BOTH of these outfits, but THOSE SHOES NEED TO BURN. They’re dragging down both looks, especially the second one.

  21. impleasantdammit says:

Lord this girl needs a stylist so bad. Cute dress which could have been perfect with better shoes.

I might be in the minority, but I actually think Kate really enjoys herself on these tours with William. I think she likes having his full attention which she probably doesn’t get much at home. She actually can be pretty engaging and fun and I think she would step up more with her royal duties if he had any interest in doing so. She just defers to him which is really sad.

    • LAK says:

You know, i quite agree. Fashion mishaps aside, she tends to look happier and engaged on tour. I’ve been struck by how genuinely happy she’s looked throughout this tour.

      Exception NYC tour.

      • notasugarhere says:

She looked giddy when she was grinning at the 9/11 memorial, meeting Beyonce, greeting the person from J Crew, and chatting up Sir Patrick.

      • LAK says:

I forgot about the J Crew lady. Goodness that was giddy. Judging from photos, the J Crew lady was her big ‘get’ from that trip.

      • SS Spaceballs says:

Here she is super happy happy day of September 11 Memorial visit.

        http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ukqVqvIWU_o/VIylV6EuXhI/AAAAAAAAvmY/J3H0RHteW1I/s1600/mbb.jpg

After 2011 when the 9/11 sickness was formally acknowledged, that site evolved from simply a Memorial to a sort of tragically slow, ongoing Funeral site to pay last respects for the continuing deaths.
I would argue that any Royal/Official visit after 2011 should not include fluorescent highlighter pink.

        http://m.nydailynews.com/new-york/thousands-suffer-9-11-illnesses-14-years-article-1.2356281

      • LAK says:

SS spaceballs: i wasn’t talking about her general demeanour and genuine smiles.

I take your point regarding the pink coat, but her expression isn’t egregious.

If you google the pictures of Kate meeting the J Crew lady, she’s REALLY happy to meet her. And that wasn’t just snarky internet commentors who noticed. Articles are still up about how Kate was fangirling.

      • LAK says:

Correction……i was talking about her genuine smiles and general demeanour. Hate autocorrect on tablets.

      • notasugarhere says:

Videos and other photos of the time show her and William grinning and laughing under their hotel umbrellas while at the memorial. Not smiling, but grinning and laughing.

    • Jib says:

I agree. When on vacation, he has to stay with her, which seems like it doesn’t happen that often at home. I think she really does love him, and has been a puppet of Carole, and Wills just takes her for granted. But here, she has his attention, which is why she looks much happier than she looks at home where he can run off with his pals whenever he wants.

  22. HoustonGrl says:

Who gives a flying f*** if this skirt or that dress is “original” woven Indian or Bhutanese threaded/beaded style. PLEASE. These countries face some of the worst human and women’s rights problems, not to mention poverty and lack of clean water/health care. Could they take some time to do some charity work? Looks like all Kate cares about is nailing her Cosmo hair.

    • Magnoliarose says:

Thank you for saying it. It’s been bugging me but I’m so critical of Dolittle as it is I just decided to sigh inwardly. This is what bothers me about this tour as a whole. It’s a dated glorified vacation and I can’t see the purpose. There are so many weighty issues(no pun intended) but no mentions of it. Just a long expensive pap stroll.

      • HoustonGrl says:

This!! I sigh as well. I hope no one mistakes their totally staged photo ops with kids as any type of genuine concern for the welfare of these children. If anything, they are exploiting them further. It’s a shame, because they are so privileged. It’s time we demand more from the wealthy powerful elites.

      • duchessdrab says:

What are they promting?waity needs a royal tour to sell what shes wearing…

    • Magnoliarose says:

It does bother me. It frustrates me that they have a global platform and never use it. There is so much they could do.
This election has made me even more critical of the economic and social imbalances. They are like poster children for inequality and uselessness during a time when these traits are more noticeable.

    • Jib says:

The other day, on another site, I said I don’t think I could visit India because of the poverty and a woman told me a story from a time she was living there for work about an orphan boy, 8 or 9, disabled, living on a cardboard box. None of the adults who were also homeless paid any attention to him. In the morning, she saw him neatly fold up his cardboard, then go sit with one of the stray dogs and sing to the dog. She said it was the most heartbreaking thing she has ever seen.
I cried for about 1/2 hour and even now I’m tearing up. How they could hear those stories about those children who left their homes and are now living in a train station and do nothing about it, or say nothing, or not put out a press conference, just floors me. Yes, England has poor children, but nothing like this. Harry works with Senteble (sp?) so I was hoping that maybe when they get home, they can be a liaison for the charity that helps these children.
I know they won’t. They’ll get home and go back to skirting their duties, doing the least possible and taking helicopter rides everywhere. I know it. To have the ability to do so much good in the world, to have it right in your face there in India in the stories that they were told, and to walk away and act like they didn’t even register – it just saddens, dismays and angers me. I’m thinking of giving to that charity, even though I give most of my $$ to dog rescues. I bet they do nothing.

      • Bella says:

Well by visiting the slums and drawing attention to the issue they are no doubt doing more in one photo opp than you’ve done your entire life?

      • LadyWish says:

@Bella – You are massively out of line. How do you respond to a story like that with such insensitive remarks, first of all? Second of all, you assume that Jib, and no one around these parts has ever done a thing to raise awareness or funds, which is obnoxiously ignorant of you. Thirdly, tell me – what does Kate and William’s photo-op do exactly – if they’re not saying anything about the conditions those children face? Sure, I see these children – but, as an American, I don’t know the extent of their suffering or the problems they face and I still didn’t after seeing those pictures until reading more – from the comments and articles posted here.
I don’t know if you’re a pathetic defender of the Royals, at all cost, or just a pathetic troll, but either way you should be ashamed of yourself.

      • bluhare says:

        Standing ovation, LadyWish.

      • Jib says:

Thanks, LadyWish. I’m thinking Bella might be Catherine from the other site in disguise.

And Bella, a photo-op with no follow up is useless. And as I said, I do dog rescue, but am going to look into this charity. And you are really insensitive if picking at me is all you got out of a heart rending story like that. But I get it now – I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of person admires a woman like Kate, who has done nothing with her life. It’s you! Thank you for showing me the type of woman who admires useless royals – hard-hearted ones, who are nasty to other people, living in some type of delusion that the royals care one bit about you and that maybe some day you and Kate can be BFFs.

  23. Murphy says:

I wouldn’t really have cared what she wore if she had the intelligence to not be so disrespectful to the King and his brother on that red carpet.
    They just DO NOT CARE.

  24. anne_000 says:

There are photos of her showing leg and knee in the long purple skirt because she didn’t follow the traditional way of wrapping the dress, which was to double wrap the fabric around her and to keep the opening more off to the side, so that when women walk, their bare legs don’t show either by natural movement or by wind.

Also, she’s wearing yellow, which I think she shouldn’t have. The Bhutanese royals wear such large patches of yellow, because it’s symbolic of their power.

The photos above isn’t of the Bhutanese Queen. That’s the King’s sister, iihc.

  25. Pam says:

I think these two are a fun couple. They are always smiling and laughing having a good time. Good for them!

    • MC2 says:

Did you see the pics at the DM? I love how much fun she’s having with archery. The face she gave while Will was about to shoot was really cute & funny. I like seeing her personality!

      • Pam says:

Yes I saw that, loved it. Not really understanding why we have the need to put others down… it just doesn’t make us look better by doing so. I will continue to enjoy their love of life.

    • Emily C. says:

My husband and I smile and laugh and have a good time with each other every day. Where are our estates, crowns, and extremely wealthy lifestyle supported by public taxes?

      • MC2 says:

You weren’t born a royal…..assumption on my part since you said you don’t have a crown.

    • Jib says:

Why wouldn’t they be smiling and having fun?? They are basically on vacation, paid for by the British taxpayers. Even visiting orphans didn’t seem to put a damper on their good cheer.

  26. duchessdrab says:

Waity kate is boring and very unprofessional so much fiddling in her hair..

  27. Div says:

The traditional clothes in Bhutan are incredibly beautiful.

  28. Citresse says:

The yellow arrival outfit is nice but given local customs, isn’t it too short?
I noticed Kate’s hem lines were lower after Charlotte was born, but it seems she’s back to hem lines above the knee and travelling to foreign countries with very different traditions doesn’t seem to matter to Kate.
People have mentioned times have changed with regard to dress in certain countries, but Kate has married into Royalty so she’s held to a higher standard and IMO observing tradition matters.
Also- the nude heels are getting tiresome. It would be nice to see different shoes for her day time outfits. And where are the hats? A hatless India and Bhutan tour.

  29. sequinedheart says:

I don’t care much for her boring butter ensemble but I wish she would stop with the dark rimmed eyes.
What I will give her kudos on is the straight traditional skirt & that cape top with her hair up – giiiiiiiiirl, you finally nailed a look. It’s flattering, elegant & ROYAL.
I wish she would take more style cues from CP Mary of Denmark.

  30. Jib says:

So some commenter on the fug girls looked up all my comments this year on Kate and then analyzed them and characterized them as being personal and this just freaked me out. Isn’t that odd and stalkerish?

And first of all, I stick to Kate’s work ethic and appropriateness of her clothes and secondly, who has time for that except some crazy person? I won’t be commenting over there ever again.

    • bluhare says:

      Yes it is.

I’ve had the same thing happen to me on another site. It was a while ago now but I was a bit taken aback — someone talked about my comments made elsewhere and how I was unfit to post. I’m still there, so that didn’t work out too well. I’ll be damned if I let one idiot with too much time on her hands run me off. 😀

      • Jib says:

        Thanks Bluhare,
I think I need s break from there anyway-the hero worship and fawning over a woman with really, very few accomplishments, is kind of sickening. I like reading stuff written by people who use their cognitive thinking skills.

      • bluhare says:

I hear you on that. The excuses made for every misstep are boggling, they really are. That being said, I can’t handle the critical blogs with all the constant complaining about every little thing. There really aren’t many middle of the road spots to post, other than here really and I know a lot of people don’t consider CB middle of the road!

      • notasugarhere says:

A couple weeks ago, a poster on KateMiddletonReview said her comments were being stolen and posted on another site. There are bloggers on tumblr who’ve been through the wringer with Kate Middleton fans trying to stalk their personal lives and find out where they live. There are some strange folks out there who stalk critics.

      • Jib says:

notasugarhere, that’s creepy! What is wrong with people who get so defensive over someone they’ll never even meet? I mean, I criticize her, but would never stalk someone who likes her! That’s some serious mental issues going on.

Anyway, if they want to find where I live, I’m on 40 acres with a big fence and 5 BIG rescue dogs here, so good luck to them.

    • Emily C. says:

That’s odd, stalkerish, and hypocritical. She accused you of being “personal” with Kate, but spent time analyzing all your comments on the site to attack you? Weird. Also I don’t understand why anyone would spend so much time defending Kate. If someone says something unfair about her, yeah counter it at the time, but this woman not only has very few accomplishments — does she have any? Nice hair? She gave birth to two children and that’s not easy (I’m sure not doing it), but it’s hardly unusual.

      • Jib says:

Yes, and that was my point all along, actually. I can see thinking she’s pretty, or has nice hair and cute kids, but the hero worship for someone with zero accomplishments has always made me squeamish. It just is odd. It’s like Kardashian worship – except most adult women would never admire Kim K. But millions admire Kate for doing no more with her life than “bagging” the guy. It offends my feminist sensibilities and I said that out loud there once, and you would have thought I suggested that Kate should be drawn and quartered at high noon!

I often feel like maybe I’m nuts when I post over there and get such aggressive pushback from women who always talk about how nice the posters and the site is (not J and H – the people who post there.) Hypocritical is right. I need to come back here to confirm that I’m not seeing the world upside down. 🙂

    • sequinedheart says:

      Ewwww what a creep.

    • Vava says:

Very odd AND stalkerish. That would freak me out, too. I’ve never been to that site, but there are others that are unusually accepting (in my mind at least) and protective of Kate. I fail to understand why they act that way because they must be seeing something in Kate that I don’t. I once thought Kate had promise as a future queen consort, but lately have some serious doubts. I just don’t think she’s the right person for that role. Hopefully I’m wrong, though.

    • MC2 says:

That is really creepy. I wonder if you should tell the site? That just seems over the top and weird. I wouldn’t ever comment over there either. And the commentor was quit the hypocrite- you were being personal but they weren’t by looking up all your posts?! They have way too much time on their hands.

There are a few public personas that people seem to be crazy obsessed about & usually it makes me weary to post on any article about them- Angelina, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow…..there are people that are really weird about them (hate & love).

    • Natalie says:

I saw that. I post there sometimes and your comments have generally stood out for me. I’ll miss your contributions over there.

I hope you feel comfortable enough to post there again and I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve been a big fan of Jessica going back to her recaps of TWOP, but her response was disappointing. Catherine was out of line and cringingly Mean Girls in her behavior. And her faux intellectualism with her “data points” was embarrassing. Don’t let Catherine’s snit over someone daring to critique her idol Catherine Middleton get to you. She’s not worth it.

  31. Harry Lime says:

Methinks she draped that purple skirt all wrong just so she could flash the maximum amount of leg. Stay classy, Katie.

  32. MrsK says:

    1. Every day that she is one day further away from her mother, Kate looks happier and more free. I recognize that syndrome.
    2. Best royal outfit in Bhutan: the King. Those boots!
    3. Best outfit in Bhutan: the various dancers.
    4. Kate’s best presentation so far. She looks like she was having fun. But there was also something exagggerated about her facial expressions that I’ve seen in other Botox aficionados.
    5. I must go to Bhutan ASAP.

    • bluhare says:

My vote goes to the dude in the hat when they were walking with the King and Queen. Nice legs. 🙂

  33. Karyn says:

    OMG
Another skirt flash. What are her staff thinking? Skirts can be made to look like wraparound but can be tailored so there is no chance of a flash. And the yellow arrival outfit – another flared skirt for a plane exit down stairs — lucky it wasn’t too windy and maybe they added some weights? Give up the flared skirts and do some thinking Kate and co!!!!

  34. Bread and Circuses says:

It might be good lighting too, but that colour makes her skin look wonderful. 🙂

  35. Anare says:

For the love of god could someone please tell her to release her death grip on her purse and stop folding her hands and pushing them into her crotch. It is so unbecoming.
