Johnny Depp & Amber Heard’s Aussie video apology is the best thing of the week

wenn23760547

This is by far the funniest video I’ve watched in weeks/months. First, some backstory: last year, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp got in major trouble with the Australian government after Amber “smuggled” their two dogs, Pistol and Boo, into the country. Depp was filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5 in Australia, and Amber flew in (on his private plane) to see him, and she brought the dogs. She did not get the proper paperwork to bring the dogs in. So Australian authorities threatened to kill the dogs. Amber flew out of Australia with the dogs in the end, but she still had to show up in court today. Johnny and Amber flew into Australia this weekend (Boo and Pistol did not join them, apparently), and today, they heard their sentence.

Amber Heard’s dog days are over. The Magic Mike XXL actress pleaded guilty Monday to providing a false immigration document when she entered Australia last year with her pet Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo. Heard, who appeared in court alongside Johnny Depp, avoided a possible 10-year prison sentence and a fine of nearly $100,000. Magistrate Margaret Callaghan gave Heard a one-month $1,000 good behavior bond, meaning she cannot commit any other offenses in the country through May 18. The yearlong saga has been dubbed Australia’s “War on Terrier.”

Heard’s lawyer told the court that his client never meant to lie on her incoming passenger card by failing to declare she had animals with her. Heard was jetlagged and assumed her assistants had sorted out the paperwork, he said. “She has made a tired, terrible mistake,” he added. But prosecutor Peter Callaghan said that was no excuse. “The laws apply to everyone,” he argued.

[From E! News]

So, she basically got a slap on the wrists, which I think is fine. While Amber shouldn’t have smuggled the dogs into Australia, the whole incident took a crazy turn. I think the ruling was fair – she posts a bond, avoids prison and Boo and Pistol get to live. Part of the deal, however, involved Amber and Johnny making this absolutely CRAZY video apology to the people of Australia. I’ve watched it three times already and it gets better every single time. You know what’s funny? Amber is such a terrible actress, and she couldn’t care less if this apology sounds convincing.

Aussies are widely mocking Depp and Heard – and the whole process – on Twitter using the #WarOnTerrier hashtag. It’s all pretty amazing!

OMG the apology video is the most awkward thing ever. I almost feel bad for them for having to make it.

    • mia girl says:

It feels to me like they were mocking the whole thing. I don’t think they meant to be sincere.

      • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious they’re mocking it. She’s not trying to be covincing, she’s openly making fun of the situation.

    • Pinky says:

Insincere, disinterested, and meaningless. And JD still looks stoned. Glad that’s the only movie I’ve watched of either of theirs in a decade. And it will be my last.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

Agreed. Since when did Johnny Depp have a pseudo British voiceover accent?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, I know it’s not the crime of the century, but they shouldn’t have done it and they are brats for making this so obviously mocking.

      • Poisonous Lookalike says:

ITA. They deserve every bit of laughter and derision that comes their way from all this.

    • SydneySnider says:

I agree with you, Kaiser – it was a reasonable and fair outcome for everyone concerned. The video has been getting major coverage here – for its hilarity and cringe factor, mostly. Depp’s accent has also invited all manner of comment. For example, someone asked what accent sounds like a person trying not to swallow his tongue? Something nice… Depp obviously had a shave, and looked as if he’d had a long, hot shower…

    • Birdy says:

that’s what I was thinking! he is stiff has a board and shes trying so hard to be convincing

    • GreenieWeenie says:

Awkward? This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I LOVE IT. So clearly written by some government PR person or the court…I love it. Brilliant. Perfection. A thing of beauty. Deserves a spot in public archives for posterity. Johnny looks wobbly, vaguely drunk and a little perplexed to find himself on camera. Amber is simultaneously hating life and relishing her second in the public spotlight. She knows she should be pissed at being forced to make a statement, but her need for attention is being so satisfyingly gratified.

I don’t think Amber sounds mocking. To me, both sound like anyone would compelled to make a public statement (albeit Johnny is exponentially more confused). What do you expect, superrrrrrr enthusiasm HEYGUYZZZZ? Let’s be realistic, context is everything.

  2. Malice says:

I’ve been loving Johnny’s work lately. Black Mass, The Art of the Deal, and now this!

  3. Naya says:

Amber is selling it imo. Johnny looks like the director has a gun aimed at his head. It’s hilarious.

  4. lilacflowers says:

    He’s semi-comatose! Wake up, Johnny!

  5. Danny says:

This is more entertaining than any movie playing in theatres right now.

  6. Maum says:

I took it as a huge f**k you to Australia.

    Petty and mean.

    • KB says:

I think she was trying to be genuine. I mean they could have just not shown up or gone back to Australia. What are they going to do, extradite them? That’d be a whole expensive process.

  7. Birdix says:

Apparently part of her bond was giving them half of her eyebrows as well… (I couldn’t stop staring at the missing brows in that top photo)

  8. Tara says:

I hate this couple. Johnny Depp is such a sucker. This girl just loves the limelight. Is there a more insincere apology video?

    • Bam says:

Hate is such a strong word.. Johnny Depp is one of the nicest and kindest actors in Hollywood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yugPhsoqeX0

      • Truthful says:

@Bam: this PR storyline has died a long time ago !
Of course documented “nice gestures” will surface when your public image is starting to resume just being a living middle-aged cliché ! And gosh he is!

      • Bam says:

@Truthful I follow this guy and I see/read about the “nice gestures” ALL THE TIME. It’s always been the same. It’s not PR and he is NOT a “living douchebag middle-aged cliché.” He is a very nice guy. Don’t call him something that he’s totally not. Let’s save the vitriol for people who are actually terrible.

      • Ariadne says:

I agree – when he was filming in Norfolk, he did a few things that were not widely publicised and were kind; visiting kids and things like that. I don’t think he’s the worst guy in Hollywood

      • Tara says:

I mean as a couple, not individually. I feel Johnny Depp is a midlife crisis having phony who tries to be like a rock star, so I think he’s annoying. It’s not a big deal that he does charity given the amount of money he has. Doing charity alone doesn’t make you a great person. Why do people think this? There are horrible human beings that give to charity. The people who truly make sacrifices every day to help others in need with no glory in return are the ones that impress me. Not a gazillionaire who can get tax breaks over it.

      • Spiderpig says:

Unless you know him personally you don’t have the slightest clue what he’s like and whether he’s a nice guy or not.

      • Truthful says:

        @Tara: Amen!
        @Bam: LOL

      • Bam says:

@Tara Johnny Depp was a rock star before he started acting. I said nothing about doing charity? Not that he doesn’t donate millions to charities. I think he is a great person based on how he treats people.

      • Tara says:

Bam you don’t know that he’s so nice. I think he’s an old drunken fool who left his family for a fame seeing starlet. You can’t get more pathetic. Plus he defended that rapist Roman Polanski in the most pathetic way of all the celebrities. He gets no respect from me.

      • Bam says:

@Tara Well, you don’t know that “he’s an old drunken fool who left his family for a fame seeing starlet” either. He and his ex broke up amicably, he did not leave his family. In fact his kids love the “fame seeing starlet” which means she was not the reason behind the breakup. He did not even sign the Polanski petition, btw. He obviously only defended him because he worked with him in the past.

      • Chewbacca says:

Doesn’t mean he’s above the law, the fact that he seems to believe he should have been able to get away with it is frankly lame. Australia is strict about pet quarantines for a reason. Look at the destruction caused by mice, rabbits and domestic cats that were brought to Australia and are now running rampant in the wilds threatening indigenous species. They also currently don’t even have rabies there and they don’t want it. They should have just apologized and complied with the order to send the dogs back home. We wouldn’t be talking about it and they wouldn’t have had to go to court or make this video. Their behavior was childish and entitled.

      • Bam says:

@Chewbacca “the fact that he seems to believe he should have been able to get away with it is frankly lame.”

What makes you think that? He obviously only didn’t like the way Barnaby Joyce handled the situation.

  9. Juniper says:

Apparently he fell asleep in court, she had to elbow him awake..

    • Tash says:

      Are you being serious? Wow

    • Elsa says:

Not exactly. The tweet said he was just closing his eyes at times, not exactly sleep. Jetlag is what it is. They weren’t even 24h there so it’s completely human. Give him a break.

      • Anon33 says:

It has nothing to do with being human. If you’re in a courtroom you better damn well be alert and awake as that shows respect to the process. You don’t get to do whatever you want because you’re tired and have jet lag. Behavior like that will generally not be tolerated in American court rooms.

      • Elsa says:

I agree but there is nothing you can do when your body is tired and jetlagged and you are already in the courtroom.Humans have faults.Furthermore there was only one tweet about it so it’s not such big deal.If he was really falling asleep there would have been more reports don’t you think? But of course some outlets picked that tweet up and acted like it was happening during all the trial.Maybe he just lost concentration for a minute,Amber elbowed him and that’s all.Nothing dramatic here. But of course it sounds very juicy…”Johnny Depp falls asleep during his wife’s trial”.A tabloid’s wet dream headline…

      • Liz says:

oh please, he’s been falling asleep sitting up for years. probably the drugs. there’s many reports, official interviews and friends saying it, not like tabloid trash.

      • Elsa says:

Still, without facts it’s just an assumption

      • Liz says:

@ Elsa so more than 1 eyewitness reporting it (I saw at least 3 but I wasn’t hunting for it either) is not a fact??

So what would make a fact? A video of him snoring? No video or photos were allowed inside SO all we have are the eye witnesses who were mostly reporters. Most of those tweets were coming from reporters. I’m going to give them a little credit that they didn’t just make that shit up for giggles. They didn’t NEED to do that.

  10. browniecakes says:

I’d rather hear from Pistol and Boo.

  11. shutterbug99 says:

This is hilarious! They are clearly taking the piss, right? I wonder how many takes they had to do in order to get one where they weren’t both falling around laughing!

  12. Cynthia says:

Mmm the thing got a crazy turn because they kept acting like the law was beneath them. If everyone is supposed to respect the law of a country, why shouldn’t you? Also wasn’t Amber the one accusing a minister of being a fame seeker?

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

Yes, the only “crazy turn” was their continued entitled and repugnant attitudes about it all. And now this garbage “apology”.

Eurgh. I hate that they got off so lightly.

      • pinetree13 says:

Me too….. I mean com’on! They are mega-rich! Charge them the full $100,000!!! It would set an example that Austrailia takes smuggling of animals to their country seriously and it wouldn’t actually hurt them in the slightest. It would be the equivalent of us paying a $50 fine.

        WAY TO WIMP OUT JUDGE~!

    • CornyBlue says:

Right ? Like I am sure this could have been done in a more silent manner but I am glad it did not and they had to make a video because they look like at least the public humiliation affects them

    • Chewbacca says:

Thank you!! The laws the law guys, be adults.

  13. capepopsie says:

Maybe the Duchess and Prince could make an apology video of
    the Indian trip too?

  14. missmerry says:

omg her eyes! and her face! trying so hard to pretend to care that ‘all she got’ was a small fine and a month of good behavior in one country. lol.

this honestly looks like a video that two celebrities had to make for a fan who kidnapped them and wouldn’t let go until they spoke to the camera about the topic of the fans choice.

    ugh.

    • swak says:

Why even give her the month of good behavior when they aren’t even going to be there? I didn’t get that. It would be one thing if they were going to be in Australia for a length of time, but this is a no brainer.

    • elle says:

      hahaha…. it totally does!

  15. Sarah01 says:

Is she trying to put on an Australian accent? Very awkward and it’s not genuine.
What happened to you Johnny, why couldn’t you age with grace? Take a page out of Keanus book, hot and humble as ever.
Amber I haven’t seen much of her, she was very pretty in the Danish Girl, but not memorable.

    • Bam says:

I don’t see how Johnny’s not as humble as ever? He always takes time to sign autographs and take photos with fans, and they always tell the nicest stories about him.

      • Truthful says:

        @Bam:

        Yeaaaah about that…

On one hand signing autographs and taking photos with fans…. on the other one thinking that laws don’t apply to him…. how humble …

      • Bam says:

@Truthful “On the couple’s first trip to Australia the dogs did not go because the documentation was not ready, the defence has told the court.

Depp’s personal assistant indicated the dogs would be good to travel in April, so the couple assumed all the relevant clearances had been made.

“We’re not usually involved in the details of those travel arrangements,” Depp said in his statement.”

They made a mistake, it was not him thinking the laws don’t apply to him.

      • dana says:

        @Bam: dathatdoe working overtime!

      • Liz says:

LOL she threw out EVERY excuse she could. “Johnny said it was taken care of. The staff was supposed to do it. I didn’t know I had to also check “yes” that I had animals. The customs people didn’t do their job. I was so tried from the long flight.” but my fav was “I was traumatized by my HUSBANDs injury!” The one that happened 6 weeks ago, while she remained in London working… and just days before arriving in AUS she was parading around NYC with her gal pals promoting her latest films.

Johnny fans can keep trying but she is GUILTY and rather than taking responsibility she threw the help under the bus!

“Never make eye contact.” Probably what she tells the help too.

      • Truthful says:

@Bam: they made a mistake…. and kept making some more by insulting Australia laws, minister, and quite openly…the big disgusting “mistake “they made was insulting a whole country openly AFTER being fully aware of the whole situation.

        Smug and vapid. BOTH

Then again…. Extra LOL! you really are a funny one aren’t you? LOL

      • Tarsha says:

Bam, it is fine if you’re a fan of his and want to defend him. However you are not telling the truth. They falsified documents. That was one of the charges. They knowingly falsified the document. Please don’t make out this was an accident. It was not. They admitted to smuggling the dogs in. Why would they do that if they weren’t guilty? They admitted it. They are not innocent, and they did knowingly smuggle the dogs in.

    • Tiffany :) says:

She didn’t sound like she had an accent to me. Johnny, on the other hand, did sound like he was slipping in and out of an accent.

  16. SilkyP says:

Somehow the way Amber Heard moves her lips always strongly reminds me of a fish blowing bubbles…

    • Calcifer says:

It not only the way she moves her lips… it is also what she says, or tries to say, that reminds me of a fish blowing bubbles!

  17. lisa2 says:

Sad I saw some tweets that he was falling asleep or out of it to the point that Amber had to nudge him to open his eyes.

If they had done this in the beginning this would have been over. Their attitudes are the worse and just shows a lack of respect to everyone involved.

they look Bad.. and it makes them both so unlikable

    • lucy2 says:

That’s what I don’t get – if they had just sincerely apologized in the beginning and paid any fines, or made a donation, it would have all been minor.

It’s really sad how downward his life seems to have gone in recent years.

    • Well said! Mistake or not it was their attitude at being held accountable that made them appear so nasty and entitled.
On a side note, I recently stood next to a wax figure of Depp and was so disappointed. He is little, delicate and very feminine. Well, at least in wax he is. There died my crush.

      • Liz says:

“little, delicate and very feminine” is basically what I thought he looked like pre mid life crisis. What is it that other people were seeing? Does he really seem that tall?
He certainly never looked buff or very masculine to me.

  18. pretty says:

what is even going on with her accent? lollll

  19. ds says:

Australia is a continent, Mrs & Mr Depp

    • Celia says:

True, but it’s also an island and often referred to as such. It’s in our national anthem – ‘our home is girt (i.e. surrounded) by sea’.

    • Celia says:

      None taken ds.

The pair of them are hilariously insincere but I can’t hold it against JD – I have so much respect for his efforts visiting sick children in hospital as Jack Sparrow, in between filming. His empathy for the parents is deeply moving – he talks about it here on the Graham Norton Show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmoT-YlyIho

Can you still be annoyed with him after watching that? 😛

      • Kitten says:

Johnny is by all accounts, a sincerely good dude.
But this whole debacle was disappointing and I agree with others that it makes both of them unlikable.

      • ds says:

that is super nice, I agree 😉

      • Gardenia says:

Oh, man. I’m a fragile and sensitive little flower, it seems. That interview made me tear up.

    • CornyBlue says:

The continent is Oceania i believe not Australia anymore

      • Polly says:

The continent is definitely Australia. Oceanea refers to the region which includes PNG, New Zealand and other surrounding islands.

      • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

The seven-continent model is usually taught in China, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, parts of Western Europe and most English-speaking countries, including Australia[24] and the UK .
The terms Oceania or Australasia are sometimes substituted for Australia to denote a region encompassing the Australian continent and various islands in the Pacific Ocean that are not included in the seven-continent model. For example, the Atlas of Canada names Oceania, as does the model taught in France, Italy, Greece, the Ibero-American countries (Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Hispanic America), China, and South Korea.

For certain countries, it’s Oceania, for others it’s Australia. In some countries one learns there are 4, 5, 6 or 7 continents…

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent

    • anne_000 says:

She could have said ‘country,’ ‘nation,’ or ‘continent,’ but her saying ‘island’ made me think she was trying to belittle Australia, as if it were just an insignificant, little, backward, third world island nation with its weird little cultural idiosyncrasies that she has to put up with like one does with an awkward child.

Both of their attitudes in this video were just so disrespectful as if they were trying to give the intended viewer, the Australian government, a big middle finger up.

      • MC2 says:

She didn’t write that. It was supplied to them to read as part of her sentence.

      • anne_000 says:

Where does it say it was supplied to them without any input on their or their lawyers’ part?

      • MC2 says:

There is a lot of evidence that the reading was supplied to them by the Australian gov but there isn’t anything that said that their lawyers didn’t have input or approve it and I’m sure they did.

The minister said that the video was not something that Heard & Depp “willingly wanted to do” but the minister was very pleased. He wants the video seen as much as possible so people know how important of an issue this is. Hence- the “Australians are warm but tough” and all the language about why biodiversity is important.

The island description is shedding light to why biodiversity is so important to Australia, not a put down. The agricultural minister said that every nation has a red-hot button issue and for Australia it’s bio-security. This is because they are an island and that makes this issue more unique and strong for them.

I think the agricultural minister really wanted a video as part of the sentence since Heard made such a public statement about him & how “silly” this issue was. Karma can be a real bi%C^.

I agree that Amber & Johnny were giving the government the finger in that video through every pore of their beings. I don’t think they believed or cared about what they were reading at all. Just had to do it and it’s gossip gold.

      • anne_000 says:

So where’s the evidence that they were given a strict script with no input in what to say?

Rather, all I see is that they had a choice in what to say and how to say it. That’s why there’s a lot of attitude in that video.

      • MC2 says:

My point was that the island piece of the speech is not a put down to Australia & she didn’t write the speech. She didn’t even ‘willingly’ read it (per the Australia gov). So yeah- if she wasn’t willingly but did it then I don’t think that constitutes her having a free reign on what she says (or even how). I think the government purposely put that language about being an island in the speech to explain & bring attention to Australia’s unique biodiversity & why a simple dog would be a threat to it.

I did say (if you read my comment) “there isn’t anything that said that their lawyers didn’t have input or approve it and I’m sure they did.” I also said that I agree with you that they had a lot of attitude.

You put words in my comments that I did not say twice. Then you didn’t even read my other comment (or ignored parts) & doubled down. I enjoy convos- I’m not here to argue and fight with people just cuz.

      • Alaqaday says:

Most Australian quarantine materials refer to the fact Australia is an island because that is the reason why our ecosystem is unique and fragile and we don’t have many diseases like rabies etc.

Which is of course why no undeclared puppies.

      • The word Island may have been used to drive home how isolated it is. And, in turn the sensitive nature of exposing the native flora and Fora to outside influences. At least that’s how I took it.

      • Liz says:

the script was done by Amber and her lawyers. It was filmed prior to the hearing. The government did not provide anything.

  20. Bam says:

They got off scot-free. People will forget about this in a minute.

    • Liz says:

with any luck, she’s enjoying this so much she’ll commit another crime for our entertainment pleasure!!!!

    • Tarsha says:

Sorry, but no one will forget this. Same as no one has forgotten Winona Rider’s shoplifting.

      • Liz says:

I do believe Amber just one upped Wino. I rather hope she is known forever as “one of Johnny Depp’s wives, the dog smuggler one?”

IMO “Respected Actress” is off the table for good.

      • Bam says:

Everyone already forgot about this till it was back in the news again. It’s totally not the same as Winona Rider’s shoplifting.

  21. Palar says:

Man I can’t believe I used to think JD was hot in 1988.

    • Amy says:

I can. He was exquisite and he still looked youthful well into his 40s, can’t say the same for the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio.

    • teacakes says:

      But he was!

Like Amy says, he kept his looks until the last few years when he became bloated scarfy uncle. Johnny in his Edward Scissorhands/Don Juan DeMarco/even early Pirates days? Was gorgeous.

    • elle says:

I’m with you, Palar. His recent behavior is a retroactive hotness eraser.

    • Truthful says:

As everyone on this thread as he WAS, as ….in the past!

  22. Miss M says:

I know now why she is a bad actress. She can’t say anything with proper intonation… Amber, go back to school and learn the purpose of punctuation (and how to read).
He was far more convincing than her and even if it seems that he is not trying to be apologetic.

  23. Elsa says:

I think the video is comedy gold! It was clearly forced and I imagine they did many takes to achieve looking serious instead of laughing. And you known it was probably an agreement with the government in order to avoid big fines and jail time. Despite them doing the wrong thing I think that Australia handled it horribly and turned the situation into a circus. The coverage was so over the top I felt quite sorry for them.

    • perplexed says:

I don’t feel sorry for them. If the rest of us falsified an immigration document, I don’t want to know what would happen.

  24. Sixer says:

Did they have to make the video as a quid pro quo for the slap on the wrist or something?

I like the hashtag. Good old Aussies laughing at the ridiculousness of it all but not letting the entitled wankpots off the hook either.

  25. Amy says:

This is all her fault and yet he gets called every name in the book just because he’s the bigger name. From just watching the video you can see that it’s all her doing. I’ll always love Johnny.

  26. Talie says:

I believe her that she expected an assistant to fill everything out — at a certain point, celebrities who can afford help forget how to function as normal human beings. That’s why they end up getting in so much trouble with money decisions and the law. They aren’t paying attention.

    • ell says:

and why would an assistant falsify documents? clearly she was asked to.

      • Liz says:

No. AMBER filled out that document. She’s blaming the assistants for not getting ALL the right paper work for the dogs. Which according to all requires more than 180 days to do. There’s no way they said “it’s taken care of” unless that was last year.

Also, everyone seems to totally forget that Depp only returned to LA for an emergency surgery. Had he not been injured, he wouldn’t have been flying back, she wouldn’t have been able to join him and then dogs wouldn’t have been on the plane. She lied. Those dogs were a last minute addition just like her. When she had to return (because she was being charged) she flew commercial. Like she always does, when not with him.

    • Magnoliarose says:

An assistant would not do that unless asked to. They are employees. If that was the case then where is the guilty person responsible for this?

    • CornyBlue says:

Its not like Amber Heard is super busy or anything. She can fill her own forms.

  27. Konspiracytheory says:

Am I the only one who keeps mentally comparing this situation to the Simpsons episode “Bart vs Australia”?

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_vs._Australia

  28. Mgsota says:

I can’t bring myself to watch the video. I think I’d be too embarrassed for them. For some reason I can’t take delight in people’s embarrassment, which is kind of strange considering I’m somewhat of a jerk. For example, I have no problem honking and yelling at people on the highway.

  29. ell says:

i watched it several times as well, it’s very funny.

  30. islandwalker says:

I made it 3 seconds in and started howling. They couldn’t get a collective rats ass about Australia, it’s biodiversity or its “warm and direct” people. Total “couldn’t give a shit” video. Neither one of them can act, granted Depp has at least had moment of goodness.

    • antipodean says:

You hit the nail on the head @islandwalker. From the giant gaff calling Australia an island, to barely being able to keep a straight face, this travesty was just down right insulting. Can you credit the cheek of these Aussies expecting big Hollywood stars like us to obey their laws? Whoever wrote this script should be sent to a penal colony forthwith.

    • Lucrezia says:

I’m an Aussie, and I’d also call Australia an island in this context because the fact we’re geographically isolated is important: our ecosystem is fragile and we’ve avoided a lot of diseases that exist elsewhere.

I’d bet the language sounds off because it was written by a policy-statement wonk, not by someone who writes speeches or scripts.

      *google to check*

Yeah, Dept of Agriculture are saying they “provided input concerning the offence and biosecurity messaging”, but that Heard was the one who offered to do the video in the first place.

(To be fair, due to time zones, that info wasn’t available until just recently, and I’m definitely not surprised people were wondering who on earth wrote the script.)

      • Liz says:

“input” meaning they read it after not, they wrote it for her. that was clearly NOT written by a policy person, it’s all fluff. “Australians are a warm and direct people..” It was her and her lawyers.

  31. LW727 says:

I had to double-check that he wasn’t foreign born. Nope…..Kentucky. What’s with the accent?!

    • Magnoliarose says:

He’s always had that weird affectation sometimes. It seems to come out more when he’s using.

  32. Pants says:

Johnny must have been serious about it… He shaved! </sarcasm

  33. Jayna says:

She’s purposely giving a bad reading of the lines she was given. He is high and tired (probably done in the morning) and Insincere for sure with his oh-so stilted reading of his lines for the apology. They want you to know they have to read this script, so make it quite evident they are reading, not saying anything from the heart, a sincere apology.

  34. TheOtherSam says:

“Australians are just as unique, both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law, they will tell your firmly”

Johnny’s Translation: Aussies are a bunch of sooky beotches who will go for your jugular if you’re cashed up & famous. They will get mad as a cut snake, threaten to kill your dogs and make you act in a humiliating apology vid before they let you leave with barely the clothes on your back! Pissy bogans.

    • antipodean says:

I suspect you are a bit of an ocker on the quiet, TheOtherSam, pissy bogans unite! However, that is no excuse for making me spit my morning coffee all over my laptop. Now I have to go and get my packet of iced VoVo’s, and try and calm down.

  35. Magnoliarose says:

They deserve a nice slow clap.
He’s high as a kite and most likely not the mellow stuff either. Nodding off and slurring is way past just drunk. She’s got the charisma of a brick. Depp idolizes Keith Richards to the point that he and Anita Pallenberg Heard are well on their way to becoming living homages.

  36. benchwarmer says:

A more apt apology would be along the lines of…

As celebrities we felt entitled to skirt the laws that apply to everyone else. It was selfish and we truly regret our above the law attitude. Australia has these laws in place for good reason, it makes sense, it’s to protect their people and animals etc.

This is just a joke. They look kids in high school giving a presentation where the guy is too cool for school and the girl is a cheerleader. And something in her delivery reminds me of the Royal Duchess Kate when she gives her speeches about causes.

  37. Cindy says:

oh dear god. They are trolling, right?…………right?!?

  38. Betti says:

I haven’t watched it and won’t be as i can’t bear to sit through what is going to be a painful experience. They only have themselves to blame!

And Barnaby Joyce shows that you do not eff with Aussies – that’s why i love them, the don’t take BS.

  39. A. Key says:

Not a fan, but the overreaction to the whole thing is beyond ridiculous.

And sorry, law or no law, Australian government threating to KILL the dogs is crazy!!! Wow, really?? The whole thing played out as if she had smuggled cocaine in!

    • Liz says:

That’s the law. For everyone. She went around it, she is the irresponsible pet owner who put her pets in danger. If you don’t vaccinate you dog for rabies and it gets rabies and you have to put it down, who’s to blame???

    • Kelly says:

Australia and Great Britain have incredibly strict quarantine laws of years because they have NO rabies. It’s hardly an unknown fact. This could have been avoided if Depp and whatserface had simply followed the law instead of acting like entitled jackasses.

    • MC2 says:

The minister also gave them days to get the dogs out or they would be killed. So really he was saying “get them out!” and that if they didn’t it wouldn’t just be a fine to pay. If he hadn’t threatened euthanasia then I think Amber would have kept the dogs there & that is dangerous. She waited until the last few moments to get the dogs on a plane out & tried to fight it.

Bio-security is a huge issue for Australia and they have an amazing, special system that could be rocked with just a frog coughing near it. A dog with rabies could destroy a lot more then a little cocaine actually. I think this whole debacle was a good thing for Australia to get the attention that bio-security is important to them.

    • perplexed says:

I don’t think the government overreacted in this case. I think these two got off easy compared to a regular person. When regular people lie on immigration documents, I don’t think they get a chance to film an apology video.

    • Tarsha says:

      A. Key we really were not threatening to kill the dogs, the Minister just listed one of the things that might have to happen. He was given a few days to get his dogs out of the country. So there really was no threat that they were going to be killed. There was no over-reaction on our part. The over-reaction was Depp’s mocking the Minister and Amber making spiteful and belligerent comments. Amber and Depp over-reacted and made things worse by the way they carried on afterwards, and really lost a lot of goodwill from the Australian public.

    • Chewbacca says:

If they had apologized and sent the dogs home when they were asked to by the Australian government, none of this would have happened. They acted like a couple of babies and now they are paying the price. Making this video is a slap on the wrist, they should be glad that they got such a silly little, nothing punishment.

  40. Christin says:

I clicked to conduct my usual count of accessories (on JD). Usually I guess six, but was prepared to reduce that assumption because they were apparently trying to influence a court.

But I only see one accessory? He’s hardly recognizable!

  41. Kelly says:

From the Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna School of Speech, Johnny Depp adapts the The Vapors song

    I think I’m turning British…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWWwM2wwMww

  42. stinky says:

HER SHOES THAT DAY ARE AWESOME – WANT!!!!!

  43. mmm says:

I’ve seen more comments mocking Australia for this video than them…like it looks as an hostage video

  44. Redgrl says:

Can’t stand either of them. He used to be so funny & quirky & cool – AND lived in France (sigh!) with his equally hip partner & lovely kids. And now? He’s a walking midlife crisis with his talentless cliche ‘model/actress/whatever” and his too twee for his own good one-trick pony acting (with a notable exception of Black Mass). Seriously – pirates, Willy Wonka, mordechai, even his wolf character in “in to the woods” are all the freaking same… And, no, Johnny, wear as many skull rings & scarves & jam with your buddies – you are not Keith Richards! Ugh!

  45. Patty says:

That was like a bad SNL skit. They weren’t even trying.

  46. shewolf says:

All I heard was “Ummmm but we’re rich and famous and we can do whatever we want and if we can’t then its ridiculous and I shall mock it.”

  47. perplexed says:

Well, at least she looks quite pretty in the video I guess. There’s that, I suppose.

Why did they lie about the dogs in the first place? I don’t get that.

    • Liz says:

because it takes like 6 months to get the proper documentation and then a mandatory 10 day quarantine. She just thought she would skate around all that. Blames his people though, well actually, she blamed EVERYONE but her own smug self. Despite admitting to not checking the proper box. Cause Yes or No “do you have animals with you?” must be too complex for her.

  48. elle says:

He looks like a skeevy uncle accompanying his “niece” to the funeral of her 100-year-old billionaire husband.

  49. Blueberry says:

No one would have cared if the pet groomer hadn’t put the pics up on social media – with the agreement of the Depp-Heards. It snowballed from there. Barnaby Joyce was just doing his job. Depp’s subsequent assault threats and Heard’s “he’s after his 15 minutes” didn’t help things. This video is very funny.

  50. Snagig says:

It looks like a hostage video. Someone needs to tell Amber that Australia is not just an island, it’s a continent.

  51. Queenie says:

    I love Johnny Depp. <3
