Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie at The Hague, in the Netherlands. And no, she did NOT get called into The Hague to stand trial at International Tribunal for crimes against sack dresses. I don’t even know if that could happen, but maybe her stylist would start taking things more seriously if it did. Anyway, Angelina was at The Hague this week to attend a meeting for Trust Fund for Victims, which is a trust fund set up by the UN to help survivors of war crimes as they rebuild their lives.

Angelina Jolie Pitt has moved her humanitarian efforts to the Netherlands, visiting The Hague to lend support to an organization that provides relief aid to victims of war crimes. During the International Criminal Court meeting – Jolie Pitt’s fifth – the United Nations special envoy discussed the plight of survivors with the court’s Trust Fund for Victims, the organization announced Thursday. The Trust Fund aids survivors of war crimes with health services, as well as vocational training, trauma counseling and reconciliation workshops.

“There can be no complete justice without consideration for the victims of the war crimes themselves, and the practical assistance they need to move on with their lives and overcome the harm they have suffered,” Jolie Pitt said in a statement. “That is why the work of the Trust Fund is important and must be supported and strengthened over time.”

Jolie Pitt, 40, spoke with Trust Fund executive director Pieter de Baan, noting the importance of “practical assistance” for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

“On behalf of the Trust Fund Board of Directors, I greatly appreciate the interest and support of Ms. Jolie Pitt to highlight the importance of justice to be meaningful for victim survivors,” Motoo Noguchi, the board’s chair, said.

Haters are always going to hate, but I consider myself a pretty well-informed person and this is literally the first time I’ve ever heard about Trust Fund for Victims, which means Angelina’s presence is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do: raise awareness for the fund and raise the visibility of these important issues. The only unpleasant thing I have to say is that I think they could use a new name for the fund? Trust Fund for Victims sounds… I don’t know, purposefully vague, and like something most people would be against. That’s probably because “trust fund” has become a de facto pejorative in our society, a short-hand for entitled elitists who never work. Why not call it The Survivors’ Fund or The War Crimes Survivors’ Fund? I’m just saying, there’s a branding issue with the name.

Meanwhile, this is sort of old news, but it’s still an upcoming event for Angelina – she will be delivering a keynote speech as part of a day-long programming event on the BBC. The BBC is dedicating May 16 to the global refugee crisis, with wall-to-wall programming centered around refugee issues. Angelina’s keynote address “will be heard in a session hosted by the Today programme’s Mishal Husain which will be broadcast live on Radio 4, BBC World Service and BBC World News.”

The name could be a translation issue, meaning this is an English translation that maybe carries connotations not present in the original text.

  2. Snazzy says:

OMG when I first read this, I read “a session at the Hague for Trust Fund Victims” (aka affluenza) and I almost hit the roof. Luckily I went back and read it again …

  3. I’m terrible, but I read “for trust fund victims” lol

Now this is a truly beautiful woman both on the outside and inside.

16 years of hard work, dedication and compassion from Angelina has helped hundreds of people.

She brings much needed awareness to issues such as these. She never takes sides and is always on the victims side.

  5. Shambles says:

An amazing woman who fights the good fight, always. Love her.

    You go, Angie.
I don’t even click on gossip articles that bash her anymore, because they ignore her humanitarian efforts to endlessly discuss her weight, her clothes and the imaginary marriage issues she may have. I wouldn’t mind a balanced perspective, but when it’s all one sided I can’t be bothered with it.

I think the name is just because it’s an actual trust fund and because it’s part and parcel of the ICC, not a charity or NGO. You probably haven’t heard of it because the US is not a state party to the ICC so it wouldn’t be something generally publicised stateside. But you can donate at the website if you like, it takes individual donations as well as funding from ICC signatory countries. http://www.trustfundforvictims.org

Nice Photoshop job. Couldn’t they have shopped the pupils they are scary. Otherwise love this woman.

i wonder if it’s called a Trust Fund organization, instead of Foundation or just Fund, is because of the personal nature of the payment of reparation.

an account is set up in the name of each victim of a convicted person, or earmarked for specific persons (if the current name and current location of the person is not known for some reason) and funds are held in trust for each person. and the TVF manages the disbursement of funds for them according to the ruling of ICC.

different from a general fund aimed at funding projects rather than persons where the recipient is not yet known specifically.

Yes. That’s kind of what I meant above. It’s an ICC thing, so it only disburses to victims of the people actually convicted by the court. Presumably there’s a legal thing around it being a trust fund – because it also gets funding from asset forfeiture from the convicted, as well as country-level and individual monies.

Um, maybe because this is a celebrity gossip site and not a political forum?

  11. lisa2 says:

I’m a huge fan. One of the things I most admire about her is her dedication to this cause. When she finishes filming her movie her focus turns to how she can help. As someone said she has been doing this work for 16 years. When people do things for whim they don’t stay with it this long.

Like her or not she is the real deal.

  12. doofus says:

good on her. I admire her dedication to her humanitarian work.

on a more superficial note, DAYUM she looks SO MUCH like her dad and bro in that top pic! I thinks when she’s not glammed up, I notice it much more.
