Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman kiss on set

infphoto_962586
Jennifer Aniston was photographed on the set of her IVF romantic comedy The Baster smooching hot co-star Jason Bateman. Aniston stars as a 40-something single woman who opts for artificial insemination. Is The Baster going to end up with a semi-spoiled plot from all the paparazzi photos that are out? There were major plot details revealed for Sex and The City in some of the photos we saw on set, although it certainly didn’t seem to affect box office numbers at all.

After looking at the credits for The Baster it’s hard to tell whether it will be a solid film or not. It’s based on a short story by Jeffrey Eugenides, the Pulitzer prize winning author of Middlesex and The Virgin Suicides. The Virgin Suicides was a haunting and unique movie although it’s hard to tell how Eugenides’ work might translate to a romcom. Middlesex was one of the most memorable and well written novels I’ve ever read, and this story might have a similar convention-defying plot that could work.

The directors, screenwriter and producers don’t have a lot of work listed in their bios. Both directors worked on Blades of Glory, a couple of films I haven’t heard of, and a TV show called “Cavemen.” The screenwriter worked on Things We Lost In The Fire, which received decent reviews but wasn’t that successful due an unfortunately timed release that coincided with the California wildfires. It might not matter if The Baster is a good film or not though, because comedies can attract crowds regardless of the critics’ opinions.

Jennifer Lopez is said to be livid that Aniston is also filming an IVF-type comedy due out at the same time as her film The Back-Up Plan, also about a single woman who opts for artificial insemination. The Back-Up Plan is in pre-production. We’ll see which one makes it to the box office first and if there’s room for the both of them.

    JA or JLO meh
‘she stole my idea’ lol right
Mail says JLO’s film is called Plan B, which is Jen & Brad’s company. It has all the makings of a good tabloid war but nobody’s gonna buy these 2 Jen’s are dueling.

movie prices are out of hand and concession prices are just freakin laughable.

  2. bite me says:

Lem Plan B was is no long brad and jen film company, brad bought jenny out since 2005

  3. DD says:

I’d rather see a Jen A. rom com then a JLo rom com.

  4. Lem says:

bite me: whoops guess I bought the JA ‘we still work/talk/communicate’. Good to know. I just watched the 47 hr long Jesse James/Bob Ford. Which was Plan B. Not a movie that was meant to be watched with the kids screaming back and forth through the room. Lord it was hard to watch.
    ..
what a shame I used to really like JA, never really her acting but still. Thursday nights are hardwired Friends nights still. It’s getting to the point where I just can’t stand to see her. It’s not yet to the point al la Tiny Tom where I flat out refuse to watch something she’s in but we’re getting there. She needs to immediately chop off her hair and play an unadvertised role where you’re not quite sure it’s her al la John Malkovich. Maybe just maybe if she weren’t always so Rachel.
That, I guess, is assuming she has the range to not be Rachel, which we haven’t yet seen

  5. bite me says:

lem: jenny started her own production company called echo films i believe… she was good in the good girl…she should do more indie films, am sure with the right script and director she can really shine or maybe not

  6. Lem says:

yeah I looked it up. looks like he got the company and she got the house in the divorce. But there all also quotes from her saying she left because it got too big. Guess Mattie McC is right: 3 truths: his, hers, & what really happened.

  7. vicsmith says:

Jason Bateman is adorable. Good choice.

  8. Jetta says:

I use to like Jen and her movies but lately I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t stand all the stupid stunts. I’m tired of the same old movies. She need to do some diffent kind of boring movies because all her movies seem to be directed to old old women.
She just seem to sit and change the expressions her face. I think Jen might do better to move behind the cameras-not in front.

  9. Hieronymus Grexx says:

I bet Jason’s never kissed a desperate has-been before, aside from his sister.

  10. Zoe (The Other One) says:

God I wish she’d do more indie stuff too instead of this ‘woman with effed up relationships’ etc. I loved the Good Girl.

I’m sure the book is great but I don’t see how turning it into a fluffy giggly film is going to do either the author or Jennifer any favours.

  11. ThatBKChick says:

There is something about J.A. that is so transparent, and fake. Just like her initial marriage to B.P, and the break up drama she keeps feeding off the poor jilted spouse…Why must everything this woman does be in the light of the media. If she was a true person who honestly wants to move on and away from the B.P./A.J. situation, she would quietly go and sit down somewhere, get some help and honestly try to have a meaningful relationship out of the light of the press.

  12. JohnnieR says:

*YAWN*…personally, I am beyond tired of this droll, overrated woman. I’ve said it many a time before, and I’ll say it again – NEVER understood the appeal of this broad. Her “acting” skills are less than mediocre; her personality is like pablum…err..sun baked pablum, and she has virtually fame-whored her life out to her publicist, who in turn whores her out to the tabloids and other realms of the “deep-as-a-sandbar-media”.

She’s a one-trick pony, and me thinks that with the coming years, her star is going to fizzle. She just don’t got the substance.

    My two cents.

  13. Feebee says:

I have new respect for Jason Bateman.

  14. ChristinaT says:

this is an ON SCREEN kiss right? id: IT HAS NO MEANING!… what’s next? JA getting her armed brushed by a stranger in the subway making headlines? do we really consider her THAT desperate? (ok don’t answer that haha).

what’s with all the artificial insemination movies? tribute to octomom?

  15. HashBrowns says:

@ThatBkChick: You do know they are filming a movie right? *rolling eyes*

Anyway, she isn’t going away anytime soon. She’s proved to be bankable in romantic comedies. Now, you can hate her for only doing romantic comedies (like Kate Hudson, but I doubt any of you hate her) because that’s just something people do.

But she knows her range and she knows what she apparently likes to do so what’s the problem? Some actors are famous for playing the exact same character (i.e. character actors) for their entire careers and she gets hated for doing something that is as a part of acting as method.

  16. Sauronsarmy says:

    Her?

  17. lisa says:

they are doing a movie together. Why the caption to make is seem like something it is not. Jason is happily married. Jen.. well… What is there to say. B list at best.

  18. ChristinaT says:

well, at least she doesn’t look like she could slice me open with her collar bone like angelina jolie and is looking good for a 40 year old… so she’s got that to her advantange… :/

  19. cassie says:

Looking good yet weak ,boring and no self respect or self esteem. Yeah I’d prefer to be 40 and look good

  20. Sid says:

Pr…pr…pr. Always pr. Why are they making a big deal out of every scene she shot. Sick of Jen.

  21. j. ferber says:

She was adequate in The Good Girl, not good. I don’t see why indie movies are any more up her alley than studio movies. Other and better actors would have to carry her no matter what kind of movie she made. Why the friggin’ obsession of making movies anyway? She is NOT a movie star, no matter how much she wants to be. What she is, is a very driven, persistent, ambitious, insecure woman who wants to be a movie star more than anything. Sorry, that still doesn’t mean she should make movies. She is a better actress, though, than Jennifer Lopez, who is a true self-promotion queen with very little discernible talent whatsoever. So there’s her backhanded compliment.

  22. HashBrowns says:

All actors are insecure. It’s why they are actors. They do what they do in order to get validation for whatever; being pretty, being “smart”, just existing in general.

Insinuating that Jennifer Aniston is the only insecure actress is like insinuating that only one zebra in one zoo has stripes.

  23. RAN says:

    Well said HashBrowns
